Airplay vs Airplay mirroring

Hi All,
I would like to play my guitar through my mac and airplayed to my ATV (2 or 3). It seems the latency is to great to do this comfortably. After playing games from my iPhone airplay mirrored to my ATV it seems that the lancency for mirroring is about the same, if not better. How can this be possible since the video is being transmitted as well as the audio? - I assume its due to the packet size. Is there a way to speed up audio airplay?
Cheers,
Eds

thanks, that is what I thought.
I am trying to figure out how to get the Amazon VOD player on my TV and it seems that I wont be able to unless I have a streaming box that hosts the Amazon app.  Currently Apple TV does not host the app and the cable idea (lightning to HDMI) wont work either.

  • Mac Airplay Mavericks (NOT MIRRORING)

I've looked throught the other threads and cant find the answer I'm looking for. Just prior to installing Mavericks the Airplay icon on the top right of my menu bar gave me the option to stream my sound to airplay devices WITHOUT MIRRORING. Now to do the same thing I have to open preferences > sound> choose device to stream sound to.
The reason this is so important to me is I use my apple tv connected to my surround sound as my primary speakers because im always listening to music. My apple TV is connected to the same Display as my computer so i could in theory turn the mirroring on to bypass my issue but when i try that my dual display ability is lost... as in the second display isnt its own screen anymore. The only time I use the Apple TV for video and audio is when watching a movie or other video (to keep the video and sound in sync since if i only stream the sound it ends up lagging behind the video.
So basically my question boils down to is there a way to get the old functionality bac or am I doomed to having to open my preferences constantly?

  • HT201335 AirPlay will not mirror what is on my IPad. No picture.

AirPlay will not mirror IPad. No picture and IPad gets very slow.

If you aren't receiving a picture it's not mirroring, basic airplay is a separate feature.
If mirroring was specifically enabled (this cannot be done within an app, only through control centre) and a developer specifically blocked this (which is rare but some do) you would receive an error message.
Is it only slow when using this app/site?

  • HT204291 Problem with Airplay or AirPlay Mirroring

I am not able to use AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring to stream content like Hulu (not Hulu plus) to my Apple TV from my PC.  I disabled the firewall and that did not help.

How are you trying to do this?  It would require mirroring and you seem to have a PC not mac.  If that is the case you need a third party app called airparrot www.airparrot.com which should give you the ability to 'mirror'.  It has mixed reviews but I found it fine until I got mirroring.

    Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring

  • AirPlay, streaming and mirroring

If I understand it correctly, I can use AirPlay to stream video from my MacBook (with Lion) and my iOS5 enabled iThings to an TV2 (no great advance re the MacBook since you can do that with the TV1 with earlier versions of OS X).  But the Apple site also says that mirroring is only available from the iPad2 and iPhone 4S.
So what does mirroring do that AirPlay streaming doesn't?

Mirroring is the display of the whole screen of the 4S or iPad 2, other iOS devices can stream just the video or audio.
In essence then a webite with a video in it that is AirPlay enabled would stream the video to the Apple TV and assuming the video was widescreen it would fill the TV screen, the 4, 4S and all iPads can do that, only the 4S and iPad 2 can mirror the whole webpage.
In this respect Mirroring isn't as good as AirPlay because the video doesn't fill the whole screen, however it's advantage comes when the video isn't AirPlay enabled, when mirroring is available you can mirror the webpage.
Actually the Apple TV 1 wasn't the same as the Apple TV 2 when it came to streaming from the macbook, the Apple TV 1 would only let you initiate a video stream from the Apple TV, with the Apple TV 2 you can do that from your macbook too.

  • HT201335 I found it cost a lot of energy . Is it true? Is there any spec to describe detail power consumption about airplay and airplay mirroring?

I found it cost a lot of energy . Is it true? Is there any spec to describe detail power consumption about airplay and airplay mirroring?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV uses 6 W, which IMO is hardly a lot of energy.

  • AirPlay won't mirror picture. Only sound on new iTunes movies

My Apple TV won't play the movie purchased from iTunes. It only plays the volume. It's from a mini iPad. Any suggestions?

You need to mirror by double tapping the home button, swiping left to right, select airplay and then Apple TV, toggle ON mirroring

  • Airplay: Can I mirror video but not audio, i.e. listen thru a headset?

Airplay works great. But I want to figure out how to listen through  a headset connected to my MacBook while video is mirrored on TV.  i can't seem to have Airplay mirroring on and have sound output to my headset.

I see what you mean....Premiere Elements 10 appears to be the last version that had options for the user to select Capture Video and/or Audio in the its Capture Window.
If you are doing DV data capture firewire into the Premiere Elements 11 Capture Windows and want a final file without audio and you cannot do this at the camera level, then consider....
    1. Do the Capture "to the Timeline" - video linked to audio result on the project's Video Track 1
    a. Right click the Timeline DV AVl and select Delete Audio and then edit accordingly.
    or
    b. Import the DV AVI but, when you go to export it, in the export settings, remove the check mark next to Audio so that the export contains only the video portion.
Publish+Share/Computer/AVI with Presets = DV NTSC Standard
Please let us know if any of that worked for you.
    Thank you.

  • HT201335 cannot get airplay icon to mirror mac on apple tv

Does anyone know how to get the os mountain lion to recongnize the apple tv to do a mirror with the mac book air?

What year is your MBA? It may not be compatible
    AirPlay Mirroring
Requires a second-generation Apple TV or later. Supports the following Mac models:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)

  • HT1338 Airplay vs Airplay Mirroring performance

iTunes movies steam with excellent quality using Airplay to Apple TV3 from my mid-2011 27" iMac.  However, anything streamed using Airplay mirroring is very poor in comparison, i.e jerky picture.  I assume that the wireless network must be OK if it can steam movies so well from iTunes.  Is it possible to 'tune' Airplay mirroring to provide the same level of quality?

    Hi,
I get the difference between the two.
My issue here is that since 10.8.2, Airplay Mirroring from my MBA and iMac WiFi thru-put is to slow and it results in that the movie shutters and lags. It can not be the nwteork as I have 300 Mbit/s and all my Mac are compatible with Airplay Mirrorring.
    When I used Airplay Mirroring in 10.8 my thru-put was 25-40 Mbit/s and now (10.8.2) I only get 9-12 Mbit/s.
    (no change in the system)

  • Airplay sound not mirroring after first time until restart

    Anyone else seeing this issue?
When we connect either the iMac or the MacBook Pro to our 2nd generation apple tv via airplay the first time, the sound goes to the tv as expected.
If we try to use airplay a second time, the sound stays on the computer, though the picture shows up on the tv. If we try to change the sound in preferences to the apple tv, the airplay connection is broken. Once we restart the computer, the sound works as expected.
All of the latest system software updates have been applied.

That is right - upgrade to Mac as in purchase a Mac which now have Intel processors and the ability to also install and use Windows XP or Vista along with OS X on the same computer.
I wonder if u have gone thru Apple's OS X license agreement recently?
I have gone through the Apple website recently but I don't need to. Regardless, the answer remains the same and will not change. If you want to run OS X, you need to purchase a Mac.

  • HT204291 how can I download airplay in my imac to mirror with my apple tv?

  • How can I use AirPlay Mirroring or equivalent with MacBook Pro 5,5?

    Hi!
I have a MacBook Pro 5,5 (mid-2009 13"), which I recently treated with a RAM bump, an SSD drive and a shiny new battery.
I'd like to buy an Apple TV in order to use AirPlay Mirroring. I understand that only the MacBook Pro laptops that have been released in 2011 or later are compatible with the feature, but I know that some third party apps (like AirParrot) offer a decent workaround. Unfortunately, it seems that the MacBook Pro 5,5 (i.e. my laptop!) isn't compatible with AirParrot.
Does anyone have a solution for me?
    Thanks!!

  • Mirror zoomed-in movie playing on iPod Touch 5g to Apple TV via Airplay?

Is it possible to mirror a zoomed-in movie (1080p) playing on my iPod Touch 5g to the 3rd gen Apple TV via Airplay?
My Soniq TV doesn't have a zoom feature and I know that Apple TV can't zoom.
I want the movie to fill the entire screen of my TV (I don't mind cropping some of the edges off).  I can zoom in on the movie playing on my iPod Touch 5g but when I enable airplay mirroring to the Apple TV, it reverts to the 1080p format with black bands along the top and bottom.  I know it is using airplay and not mirroring to play the video on the Apple TV but I want to display exactly what's showing on my iPod Touch 5g on the Apple TV.  Is there a work-around or an app in the App Store that enables this?
