Airplay with Pioneer VSX-1021 (0dB Issue)

So sometimes when I start Airplay on my Pioneer VSX-1021 the receiver volume goes to 0dB (Which is extremely loud, I usually listen around -30 or-25dB) without me doing anything. It did it once when I adjusted the volume in iTunes while using Airplay but other then that it has only been when I first start Airplay.
I was wondering if anyone else has been getting any problems like this?

I have some other issues with the VSX 1021 ...
1) When playing over Airplay, the music stops on the VSX, when looking on the iTunes app on my iPad, the AirPlay connection was dropped. re-selecting the receiver as an AirPlay device solves the silence.

2) I do not seem to be able to set the volume louder than -20 dB using the iControlAV app
3) I cannot find the iControlAV iPad app (seen it in a Review Video on the internet)

Airplay & Pioneer VSX-1021

When trying to use the Airplay function on the Pioneer VSX-1021 receiver, I am given an error message...."An error while connecting to airplay device VSX-1021. An unknown error occurred (-15000)" and the music will not play on the receiver.
I updated my itunes on my PC to version 10.4.1.10 and made sure the firmware on the receiver is up to date. And I am still having problems.
I purchased the receiver about 1 month ago.
Can you please offer any advice?

Pioneer vsx-1021: sub active w airplay

I have the above reciever and am feeding iTunes music streaming into it thru my atv2.
I cannot figure out how to get the sub engaged w my streaming music.
I have all updates in place, the sub works through atv2 for movies, but can't get it for music streaming.
Obviously it's a 2 channel stereo signal coming in but most amps know how to get fresh down to the sub regardless.
Please help very frustrated.
Ps I've connected via hdmi and to slink with same results.

IPad+AirPlay vs. Pioneer VSX-1021-k

I have a 1st Gen iPad and a Pioneer Reciever purchased last week. I have the reciever connected via Ethernet and know that it works. I have the iControlAV2 app and can control the functions of my reciever via the wireless network. I bought the receiver understanding that I could play songs from my iPad using AirPlay. The problem is that the AirPlay icon is missing from the 'music' app on my iPad. I have tried the 'resets' and updates that i have found through Google. I also know that my reciever has the current firmware. SO, here is the question, can anyone help me?

I had the same problem with my Pioneer VSX-1021-k and my iPhone 4s. I bought the receiver 2 months ago specifically for the air play function and other specs. I recently got my iPhone 4s, download a couple of itunes on it and play it on my iPhone. I can use the IControlAV2 apps well but when I was playing itunes on the iPhone the AirPlay icon was not showing up. I restart both the phone and the receiver and it didn't make any difference. I check else where on the internet and saw similar complain and they blame the wireless router. Fortunately for me I had two wireless router in my house so I try the other on and it worked very well.
After that I tried the first router and it didn't work again so I eventually went to the second wireless router and the airplay worked fine. The icon showed and I was able to play all my itunes through the receiver.
Therefore I recommend changing your router. I'm now using a Cisco DPC2325 which was supplied with my internet connection. Previously I was using a D Link DIR655 and this one didn't work with AirPlay.

Airplay problems continue under Mountain Lion, iOS 6, Pioneer VSX 1021 K

There's several threads about getting previously working VSX 1021 models to play Airplay music here, and elsewhere on the internet. For some, turning of IPv6 worked. For some updated iOS or iTunes worked. For some, turning off Multicast or the IGMP Proxy in the router worked. For me, nothing has worked.
When initially got the receiver and was using iOS 5.x on my iPhone, the receiver could be off, and selecting it as an Airplay source would boot it, pause for a few seconds while it did so, then play music. It also worked fine from my computer. Now months later, many iOS updates later, it rarely works. Sometimes I can get it to work if I turn on the receiver, set it to HMG mode, then turn on my iPhone or iTunes, then select it as a source, then click play. Often this does not work, or I need a TV on connected to the receiver, or turning the receiver off then on again will work. However there's obviously something wrong, and something that I'm not noticing.
If I turn the VSX on and put it in HMG mode, then play Airplay to it from any device, it will switch to the Now Playing screen and say connected to the network. The track title does not come up, the album artwork does not come up, the progress bar does not advance (although it does on the iPhone or in iTunes). If you deselect the VSX as the Airplay source, play a new song, then select the VSX as the source again, the TV screen updates, but with the _previous_ info, ie the first song title, and the album artwork for the last song I tried to play. It still never plays. It's almost comical how confused it is: my iphone is playing Smashing Pumpkins set to the VSX as Airplay source, the TV shows Aesop Rock is the song title playing, and the album art is a Tool cover.
I'm at a loss. I think with Lion, iOS 5 and iTunes 10.x this would work again. As it stands, I have a new phone that has to run iOS 6, and my computer is updated to Mountain Lion and iTunes 11. My receiver, which used to be so boss (walk in the door with headphones, unplug them and select the VSX and after a brief pause the music would keep playing, nice!), is now just such a disappointment. Any thoughts?

In case you all didn't find the resolution to the wired/wireless issue here it is. I too have Verizon FIOS and experienced the same exact symptoms as described above (except that I have a Pioneer VSX-1122 and not a Denon). Simply disabling IGMP Proxy immediately fixed all of my problems. Not sure why everything worked fine to begin with and then stopped but in any event, it's resolved.
If using a Verizon Actiontec router .... on the router, go to Advanced (accept the warning) and go to the IGMP Proxy menu and disable IGMP Proxy which should resolve the issue. The issue here generally only presents when the AVR is wired directly to the Actiontec router and the iDevice is connected wirelessly. Note however, that if streaming IPTV, disabling this proxy will also disable the IPTV connection, so in that case you'll need to leave IGMP enabled and place an ethernet switch between the Actiontec and the rest of the network.

Airplay does not connect with pioneer vsx-1121 anymore

After latest iTunes update airplay function does not connect with my pioneer vsx 1121 receiver anymore. I can see the reciver in the list when I click the airplay button but it does not connect and music keeps playing trough the laptop speakers. I am running win 7 and everything worked fine before the latest iTunes update.
Any ideas what is preventing the proper connection?

I am having the same problem. From my Ipad the pioneer vsx-1021K is visible. It connects, sound begins then stops after 2-3 seconds. This began in the last month. Infuriating. I can stream from my android to the device using double twist. I can stream to other devices like apple tv and Android apps like "hifispeaker" (a Airplay receiver for android).
What changed? It seems like there is something in the most recent Ipad updates? Some interfering application?

i have just purchased a pioneer vsx-2021 av reciever, this has airplay but for some reason i am unable to send anything to it from my ipad2 or iphone 4.
I have an apple tv plugged into the amp, which i can see fine.
The amp is on the network and i can listen to internet stations. From my pc, if i have itunes open i can see both the apple tv, and the pioneer amp and use airplay.
I can use the avControl2 app to control the amp.
Does anyone know how i can get my ipad/iphone to see the airplay on the amp?

Hi, Fixed this by enabling multicast filtering on the settings of my linksys wrt610n router. I can now see both the Amp and my appletv from all devices.

IPad 2, AirPlay, and Pioneer VSX-60 connectivity

I purchased the Pioneer VSX_60 receiver a few months ago. Part of the selling point was the AirPort connectivity. I was able to get my iPhone 4 to connect to the receiver as well as my iPad 2 for about a month. Had a slight problem with the receiver and reset the software back to factory settings. I have not been able to connect since that time. I have the current version of software on ALL products (Apple and Pioneer). My Apple devices all "see" the VSX-60 as it appears as an option when selecting AirPlay output. When I select the receiver, music stops, if i hit play, it will default back to the current device either iPad or iPhone. I've tried checking all my settings through my AirPort Extreme base as well as my AirPort Express. AirPlay works fine through my Apple TV. Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Not sure why your Pioneer receiver is unable to perform as a DHCP client, but adding the appropriate IP address information should be relatively straight-forward.
You can easily get the information using your iMac and going to: System Preferences > Network > Ethernet or AirPort depending on how your iMac connects to the network.
Here's an example from mine. Note: I'm using OS X Lion so it will look a bit different from yours.
For the Pioneer, the DHCP address = Router address; DNS = DNS Server, etc. However, DON'T use your iMac IP address for the IP address used by the Pioneer. The IP address you should use would be in the same subnet, BUT OUTSIDE of the DHCP server range of your router. By default, the AEBS, uses 10.0.1.2 thru 10.0.1.200 for these addresses. I would suggest using 10.0.1.210 for the Pioneer.

I don't know if you're still having this issue but there is a way round it as I'm having the same troubles.
I've just spoken to Apple about it and found out:
– If you have a Mac made before Mid-2011, it doesn't have a piece of hardware needed to take advantage of the 'Airplay mirroring'
– So you can update to a later version 10.6.8+ but this won't help at all
The way round it:
– Download 'Airfoil' and install this
– You can then play music from any defined source (Spotify, Quicktime etc) through your Airplay connected speakers
So sadly, for those have a Mac from before Mid-2011 there's isn't an option that's as easy as Option-click on the sound icon to switch to Airplay speakers.
Hope that helps, I can now get on with the rest of my day now after sorting this out.

I also recently upgraded my wireless router and the roouter is working fine with the five elements on the network. Prior to the upgrade to 7.0.3 and the router upgrade the airplay feature working fine and i was able to consistently use airplay to stream music th the AV receiver. After the upgrades the airplay icon no longer appears on my iphone or on my macbook running itunes. Any suggestion on how to trouble shoot the missing airplay icon is much appreciated.

You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.

Airplay volume very quiet with Pioneer amp suddenly.

I have a Pioneer VSX-2021 amp which has built in airplay. I'd been using it for several months with no problems now suddenly it is very quiet. I have to turn the volume up to maximum to just about hear the song that is playing. The amp volume is fine for everything else (internet radio, films, CDs etc) airplay is the only thing is effected. It is the same if I airplay from my phone or from itunes the volume is too quiet. I've been searching all over for why this is happening but it seems no one else has this problem. I can't understand why it is so quiet as it all used to work fine and at normal volume. Anyone else come across this problem or have an idea how to fix it?
Just to reiterate:
1. Used to work perfectly from itune or iphone
2. Still plays fine from iphone or itunes just increadable quietly
3. Amp volume is fine for any other input including playing songs from dlna server and internet radio

This problem has been resolved by doing a factory reset of the VSX-2021 amplifier.

I would suggest that you connect the Pioneer to the AirPort Express Base Station using an optical digital audio cable that has a TOSlink connector on one end and a 3.5 mm optical connector (Mini Plug) on the other. You can then connect the Mini Plug end into the AirPort's audio port and the TOSlink end into one of the Pioneer's optical digital audio ports.

P35 Neo2-FR issues with Pioneer DVR-212 SATA ODD on Intel ICH9R

I need some help here, guys, as I am having weirdest issues with Pioneer DVR-212 on my mobo. Everything else is working fine - 4GB Geil DDRII 800, C2D 4600, P35 Neo2-FR, stock settings. I allready updated the bios to the lates revision - 1.8 and drive's firmware to 1.24 - and it does not help.
Basically, drive just locks up and stops responding during writing or even reading a DVD when it's connected to Intel SATA. Tried ImgBurn, Nero, InfraRecorder - same issue happens in Linux, too. When connected to Marvell SATA port - drive behave better and at least this lock up issues stop.
Drive is currently connected to SATA 5 port (1 and 2 are ESATA, 3 and 4 are HDD's and they have 0 issues, 5 is burner - tested other ports and 6 is empty). Drive just stops to respond. In BIOS, Inte l controller is in AHCI mode, but I disabled the port on which Pioneer is - as I read that optical drives have issues with AHCI. Drive is visible in Vista (32 bit SP1) but locking issues happen all the time. Are there some known issues with my motherboard and it's SATA controler? Or issues with this particular drive? Or maybe issues with AHCI mode? I repeat, this lock up issues go away when I connect it to Marvel SATA port - although I don't have the feeling it's working properly, it appears to be working with almost zero issues. I had a lock even now, while writing this - on 32% on reading an image... The rig is prime stable 24h, and works without restarting for weeks. This is the only issue - no issues with hard drives (SEAGATE 320 Barracuda 7200.10 3320620AS and a Maxtor 160GB STM3160811AS). Any help or ideas appreciated!!!

What bugs me the most is that I can't find similar issues on the net - very, very few issues solved by setting the AHCI port to which burner is connnected to non-AHCI mode and that the optical drive behaves better when connected to Marvel SATA controller, rather then Intel SATA...

Any thoughts appreciated...

Airplay to Pioneer receiver no longer works after 10.4 update

I have a VSX-1021K receiver unit which until yesterday, I used quite frequently with iTunes' airplay function. Then, I installed iTunes 10.4 on my Windows 7 computer (32 bit) and suddenly, airplay does not work.
iTunes can still see the VSX-1021 unit and it shows up, but then when I try to play music to it, it fails with the following error:
"An error occurred while connecting to the airplay device "VSX-1021" An unknown error occurred (-15000)."
Meanwhile, the screen on the A/V unit shows "No Title" while it's in Airplay mode. Normally it would display the track information.
I've already emailed this exact question to Pioneer support, and will follow up here with anything I hear back from them. It's possible they might need to update the firmware of the receiver to support protocol changes created in 10.4
Note: I love that iTunes has finally added Aero effects support for Windows 7 (and Vista, I can only assume), only 1.5 years late to the party. But at least it's there. Sweet GUI effects.

Note: issue can be worked around by disabling the Windows Firewall. Interestingly enough, reenabling the Firewall after Airplay is already playing also does not cause problems; the music keeps playing without issue with iTunes 10.4 - but if I revert playback to 'internal speakers' and then back again to the receiver, the errors begin again.
So, that leads me to believe that the Windows Firewall (and OSX firewall, since I've seen similar threads on the mac side of things) is blocking the network protocol/port that allows authentication with the Airplay device, but once connection occurs, that protocol is not used again.
I've spoken with Apple phone support (thank goodness my work gave me a Mac laptop with a warrantied serial number I could use on them) about this, and have been told it's been forwarded to the iTunes programmers. Hopefully we'll see a patch soon, so I don't need to keep my firewall disabled!

HT4437 AirPlay enabled Pioneer receiver, do I still need Apple TV?

I just picked up a Pioneer VSX 1023 receiver that is AirPlay enabled.
The directions are terrible and I can't seem to figure out how to sync with my iPhone music library.
I have an iPhone 5 with ios7.
Do I have to use Apple TV with this device? I was under the impression I would not since the receiver came with AirPlay.
Any ideas how to make this work would be appreciated.

First you need to connect your pioneer amplifier to your house wifi connection. There is an Ethernet port at the back of the amplifier, connect that to the internet box. Then once you have hooked up your amplifier to the internet. Just go to control centre menu from the bottom of the iphone screen. Make sure you wifi is on and then Click on 'AirPlay'. You should get an option to play audio on your pioneer amplifier. Air play would only work when both devices are hooked up to the wifi connection.
