Airplay wont play sound longer than 1 second, except when mirroring my desktop

Hello Support Community,
Running a Macbook Pro i7 Build 13B42 and using a brand new Apple Tv to stream Audio. The macbook pro is wifi and network utility reports 144 mBit/s steady stream. The apple tv is plugged in via ethernet directly to the modem/router. This conection is fine as I use foxtel on demand through the same ethernet cable. All software and firmware is up to date and I have run the troubleshooting list on the apple tv support page.
For some reason, when selecting output source "apple tv" for my audio only, it will stream for less and less time from when I got the apple TV last week. We are down to 1 second, then after 30 seconds or so the airplay request times out and the audio defaults back to my speakers.
HOWEVER what I can't figure out is when display mirroring is turned on, the audio and vision works perfectly. How come I can't airplay just audio without the strem going dead yet when mirroring my desktop I get no dropouts? None. Perfect. It's playing now in fact.

Just because you dried doesn't mean that there wasn't any damage done.

Zen Nano Plus wont play for more than 5 seconds at a ti

I recently bought a new Creative Zen Nano Plus and thought I was getting a good reliable product. It synced in WMP like it should but when I unplugged it from my computer and tried to listen to the songs it will boot up and start playing a song but then shut off 3 seconds later. I formatted it and updated the firmware and drivers on the player and my computer but it still wont play for more than a few seconds at a time. I tried changing the battery and leaving it plugged in but neither of the above worked. I would appreciate some help. Thanks.

Same issue with me - only mine won't even power on now...

i plug in my ipod touch and it charges but wont play music and i have it set for ipod i try it on radio and it wont play sound then either!

Did it work before?
Does iHome say it will work with a 4G iPod with yur iOS?
Sometimes this helps:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

My IPhone wont play sound

My IPhone wont play sound. Works fine in a dock, but once I pull it out it stops playing. It wont play music or ring. It will only vibrate.
I know the speakers work because it'll play for two seconds then stop playing once out of dock.

If the phone has ever gotten wet it may be damaged. It may also have dirt or a bent pin in the dock connector or the earphone jack. Try cleaning the dock connector and inspecting it with a magnifying glass. Try inserting and removing the earphone plug several times. If you have restored it and that did not fix the problem damage is the most likely cause.

My iphone 5c wont play sound on videos or music on certain occasions. why?

Ive had my phone 5c for just over a year now and recently it wont play sound on music and videos on certain occasions. i have done all the updates possible to do on it and this has made no difference. tried turning it on/off and that doesnt work. any ideas/?

From your post I see that you'd like your videos taken on your iPhone to be automatically synced to your other devices via iCloud. Photo Stream will only sync your photos between your devices, however Apple recently introduced the iCloud Photo Library beta which will sync all of the content taken on your devices. I went to back up my iPhone4 and it said there was an update. So I clicked on 'update and backup' (or something close to that.) It took FOREVER...way longer than usual. When it was done, it showed the power cord w/an arrow to iTunes. ***??

And I know this means I have to go to Apple and get another phone and will lose anything that wasn't backed up. Anyone else have this happen or have a solution so I don't have to do a restore???

Reboot your computer.
Disable your antivirus and firewall.
Connect the phone to a USB port directly on your computer, not to a hub. If your computer is not a laptop and has ports on both front and back use a port on the back.
If iTunes does not recognize the phone when you connect it see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If it STILL doesn't work open a command window and type:
netsh winsock reset
Then try again. (It seems that a recent Microsoft Windows update may have corrupted network settings; this restores them to the factory default).
BTW, was there an error number associated with the failed update?

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting that track from your iTunes library and redownload it via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the same state then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com

Airplay only playing sound

I have an iPhone 4 and just got the new iPhone 5 today and on both devices, airplay is only playing sound when I try to mirror a youtube vidio from my iphones to my appleTV. When I set the iphone to mirror to my appletv, i get the message "this device can only play sound over airplay."
Any thoughts as to why?? Don't get it...

Checked all my router settings..set on 2.4 GHz, auto channel

What an obnoxious reply. It sounds like you are completely confused by what I was suggesting, so let me try again ...
I had suggested using the Remote app on your iOS device -- not the slim remote control that came with your ATV. Using the Remote app on your iOS device is much easier than the ATV remote control, and using the iOS app is no harder (or slower) than navigating YouTube on your iOS device.
If you don't know what the Remote app is, then you're you're not only missing out on a great way to control your ATV, you're also showing your ignorance (or is it arrogance?)

I pod 2nd Gen wont play sound????

My ipod 2nd generation wont play any sound sat all, ive tryed going into the settings and clicking the sounds setting button but it just goes back to the menu screen (with the apps) and it wont turn up the volume at all. the volume icon screen thingy comes up but thwn i hit the up or down volume bottons nothing happens it just says its a 0. its really annoying now and i whouldlove some help with this problem. I hope i dont have to get a new one.

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing will be lost

- Retore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If still problem you very likely have a hardware problem and an appointment atht Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My IPOD WONT PLAY SOUND ON VIDEOS

i just got an ipod and i can play videos but there is no sound. the videos i want to play are music videos i have downloaded and ren and stimpy videos and meet the barkers tv series. i have clicked convert to ipod in itunes and they convert but after they convert they lose there sound on itunes and when i transfer them to the ipod there is no sound. has anyone else got this problem or have an idea to correct it. please help cuz i have minimal ipod / computer knowledge and i need all the help i can get thanks

That sometimes happend to me when I converted the videos using Itunes....So, I use this converter instead...

It'a a free program to download and your videos should play fine in your ipod once you use this to covert them.
As for the videos not playing for you, it could be the fact that you coverted them using Itunes, so try the above converter instead and that should work okay. If that still doesn't work for you try getting your settings back to their original state - Go to 'Settings' and then 'reset Settings' and this will put your settings back the way they were once you bought the ipod originally. The videos should definately play in your ipod then.
If you need anymore help, just let me know, I know how annoying it is when the videos won't play properly!!!

My iPhone wont play any sound without headphones in the volume
Buttons work but won't change sound my speaker won't play any sound at all

i had the same problem and used a very small screwdriver, inserted carefully into the heaphone socket, to very gently push the microswitch at the bottom of the socket. i did this a couple of times and suddenly the sound works again.
i think the button down there can get stuck and cause this problem, or maybe it was just a fluke... try it anyway- it worked for me!

Quick time wont play sound

Im having trouble with quicktime, it will play the video of an m4v, but it wont play the sound with it, any suggestions.

You can install QT only from the install DVD, yes, but it'll be best to uninstall it completely first. Trash the application, and any receipts.
-Go to /Library/Receipts/
-Locate the QuickTime receipts files.
-Select all QuickTime receipts that have version numbers as part of their names (but don't select the other QuickTime receipts).
