Airplay works on everything except sharing screen...

I am having trouble with my Airplay. I have an apple tv and can airplay from my iphone and from my itunes on my mac. However, I am unable to share my screen on my mac to my tv as the icon does not appear in the top bar. I have a late 2011 Mac and all updates are done.
I can only assume there is a problem with my internet provider, but I am perplexed as to why screen sharing does work on my iphone 5 and itunes on my mac can share videos but I am unable to share my mac screen.
Please help!!

Solution: I had a remnant of an old wifi network on my PC that was causing some sort of interference/blocking.  I deleted all known networks and reconnected to my current network.  That fixed it.

airplay works for everything from the iPad, youtube, iTunes etc. no drop outs, clear as day. When using Stan it connects and streams for about a minute, then the air play connection drops out. Re connects but at best plays for a minute. Router in next room. Internet speed seems fine. Stan plays movie content with no issue from ipad and mac book air.

  • AppleScript works for everything except Exchange server emails

    Here is the script:
    using terms from application "Mail"
set theRuleName to name of theRule
on perform mail action with messages theMessages for rule theRule
                        tell application "Mail"
                                  repeat with eachMessage in theMessages
set theSender to extract name from (sender of eachMessage)
say "Mail from " & theSender using "Alex"
                                  end repeat
                        end tell
end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from
It is called from a Mail rule. Here is the rule:
It works for every incoming message except for those that originate from an Exchange account.
Here is the interesting part: If I manually "apply rules" by selecting the message and using Option ⌘ L then it speaks the name perfectly. It is only when the mail arrives (by checking for new mail, for instance) that the script does not appear to do anything.
More interesting: The email does get its background color set to Blue. So as far as I can tell, the Rule is being executed, but the script isn't.
Here is the Rule for everything else:
(speakname5 is identical to speakname6 just without the voice "Alex" - here it is anyway)
    using terms from application "Mail"
set theRuleName to name of theRule
on perform mail action with messages theMessages for rule theRule
                        tell application "Mail"
                                  repeat with eachMessage in theMessages
set theSender to extract name from (sender of eachMessage)
say "Mail from " & theSender
                                  end repeat
                        end tell
end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from
If I try to simply use the same Rule for everything it still does not work for the Exchange email account. That is the reason for two separate scripts - it was a troubleshooting attempt.
Why does it only work when manually "applying Rules"?
Is there anything else I can include in the speakname6 script to indicate that it is actually being called?
Here are all my Rules, so that their order is known:

Here is my revised, simply awful, script:
    using terms from application "Mail"
on perform mail action with messages theMessages
                        tell application "Mail"
                                  repeat with eachMessage in theMessages
                                            say "script entry"
                                            set AppleScript's text item delimiters to {""}
set theSender to sender of eachMessage as string
set brkpos to offset of "<" in theSender
if (brkpos is greater than 1) then
say "break position is greater than one "
set theSender to (text items 1 through (brkpos - 1)) of theSender as string
                                                      if theSender contains "\"" then
say "the sender contains a quote "
                                                                set AppleScript's text item delimiters to {"\""}
set theSender to text item 2 of theSender as string
                                                      end if
                                            else
say "break position is less than or equal to one "
if (brkpos is equal to 1) then
say "break position is equal to one "
set theSender to (text items 2 through -1) of theSender as string
                                                      end if
                                                      set AppleScript's text item delimiters to {"@"}
set theSender to text item 1 of theSender as string
                                            end if
say "end break position test  "
say "Mail from " & theSender
                                            say "script exit"
                                  end repeat
                        end tell
end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from
The result of all this is the same... a tortured way to extract the sender's name, which works but the results are exactly the same as the other one.
When an Exchange email arrives, the above script speaks "script entry" and that is the last I hear from it. All other emails speak the sender's name just fine. As before, manually "applying rules" after the email is received speaks the sender's name as I would expect.
So it is getting lost prior to "end break position test" but I have no idea why.

  • Video DVD-ROM works on EVERYTHING except "new" Macs

I've got a video on DVD-ROM that will play on PC, stand-alone players, G4s, G5s and a year old Intel mini. It will not play on "new" (within 6 months?) Apple machines. I don't know if it's hardware -- I've tested it on Pioneer, Sony and NEC drives and they all read it.
Any suggestions as to why the newer Macs have trouble?

Update: I tried the disc on more than a dozen macs at the local electronics stores(from iMac to Mini, Macbook to Powerbook Pro) and it works fine.
Question: Is there a security setting or some such that would prevent the video from playing on a particular company's systems? or drive maintenance?

You have posted in the mac Apps Store forum, which is entirelt different than the itunes store adn teh apps store from within the itunes store.

Photosmart 6510e has no problems with any other system: PC 7, XP, Droid but will only print from Mac Book if I turn off printer, then turn it back on.

No need to get it from FTP when there is https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/beta/all/
Also there is no such versions as 34.2, 34.5 as they were likely 34.0b2 and 34.0b5 with the current being 34.0b11

  • Airplay mirrors everything except video

Apple TV 4.4.2 and Ipad2 - Mirroring seems to work with photos the desktop and everything except videos - they stream to the apple TV but don't mirror on the iPad.  The Apple blurb about Airplay seems to suggest that videos should mirror and shows screenshots of Cars 2 being mirrored.  What am I doing wrong?

What video are you trying to AirPlay.Websites and third party Apps need enabling before they will allow AirPlay of Video content. Some Website/App developers have not enabled their products, some simply haven't got around to it yet, others have stated that they won't be enabling AirPlay (likely as a result of licensing issues).
I have created a User Tip to list Apps that have been tested with Video Airplay, if you have any Apps that you have tested please leave details in the comments at the bottom of the User Tip or email me if you don't have commenting privileges.

I decided to try and boot from the Tiger discs, but when I did, all I got was a screen that looked like a blizzard of pixels.
The firmware was likely changed and it's not compatible anymore or the disk is bad.
I was able to boot using the Snow Leopard disc from both my new MBP and my girlfriends MB, but both said that OS X could not be installed on this computer, and I couldn't even use the disc utility to wipe the drive.
Those disks don't have the hardware drivers your machine needs.
Your going to need to get a Snow Leopard retail install disk from Amazon/elsewhere.
Do I need to have a serial number to reinstall OS X?
    Thankfully No.

  • Curve 8520 screen isn't working, but everything else is.

All night my curve has been making the noise when you put the charger inside and pull it out.
I woke up this morning and the screen was white, but the led was still working which meant i had a text.
I pressed jut about everything and the screen wasn't changing so I took the battery out for 30 seconds, put it back in, waited for the device to re-boot and it turned on, the keyboard lit up, the LED was working and it made the noise when it was turned on.
I tried this process again but with the charger plugged in and it still wasn't working.
If anyone knows how to resolve this it would be a great help
    Thanks

Every time I try to set up icloud i get a message that my account is not verified and I will get an email about how to verify it.  I never get the email.  I have reset my password 4 times.  My email address is good.  My apple id works everywhere it should. For some reason my ipad will find my ipad but not my iphone, and my iphone will find my ipad.  I cant change the setting on my iphone so the ipad can find it, because it is greyed out because icloud will not verify my email and password, and never sends me the email to verify it. Am I the only one with this problem?

    Hi pvonk,
Thanks for the tip...I just logged onto iCloud.com and the folders/mail are correct (compared to my laptop). This tells me the problem is on my phone. So I will try an erase/restore to see what that does!

    Mac doesn't boot
Can you hear the fans and hard drive and see the white boot screen? Flashing question mark? The circle just runs and nothing happens? Only black screen and nothing else? These can be very helpful to diagnose the source of the problem. [1]
Flashing question mark [2]: This is usually a sign of a failed hard drive. This indicates that boot up volume can not be found.
Black screen: This is usually a sign of a failed logic board. There is no single reason for this and this may be caused by failed GPU, screen, CPU or RAM.
Circle of death/no circle/blue screen: This is usually a sign of a hard drive failure. This may NOT be a dead hard drive, just broken permissions or something
Gray screen/Apple logo/spinning gear or globe/prohibitory sign/folder with flashing question mark [3]: This could be a sign of faulty hardware but more likely a software issue, i.e. broken permissions, failed software update, etc.
    [edit]
    What to do
First, hold down the option key (also known as the alt key) just after you've pressed the power button. This should show all the available options to boot from, so if you have Windows installed through Bootcamp or a disk in your SuperDrive, you should be able to see them along with your OS X drive/partition. Select the OS X partition with arrow keys and press enter. Startup key combinations
If that doesn't help continue doing the steps from below:
    1. SMC reset [4]. Shut down and unplug all cables including power cord for at least 30 seconds and then plug in power cord and keyboard/mouse.
    2. PRAM reset [5]. Hold down option, command, P and R while booting. Start it when you hear the sound and don't let go before it reboots.
    3. Safe boot [6]. Hold down shift while booting to boot into safe mode. If this works, open Disk Utility from Utilities and repair your permissions and verify the disk
    4. Hardware test [7]. Insert the install disk (disk 1 in Mac which shipped with OS X 10.5.4 or earlier, disk 2 if shipped with OS X 10.5.5 or newer) and hold down "D" before the grey boot screen opens. Follow on screen instructions
    5. Boot from install disk. Boot from the disk that came with your Mac. Hold C while booting. Select Disk Utility from top bar and repair permissions and verify the disk. Reboot normally and see if it works now.
    6. Boot from another Mac (Firewire target disk mode). Connect the machines with a Firewire cable. Power on your Mac and press T. Select the other Mac's hard drive. Download the current OS X combo update. Run the combo update installer and select the drive that won't boot as the destination.
    7. "Repair" OS X. Boot from the install disk as in point 5. and reinstall OS X. This should NOT erase any data, just replaces the system files which may have caused your booting problem. Now install the latest combo update for OS X and repair permissions on your drive with Disk Utility.
7.1. Install OS X into an external hard drive and then boot from it [8] and try to copy your data from the hard drive before proceeding. If you have done a backup recently, you don't have to do this.
    8. Restore OS X from Time Machine backup. Boot from the disk that came with your Mac and choose the Time Machine restore option. This step will lose any changes made since your last backup but the system and your data will be put back to exactly as it was on that date.
8.1 Reinstall OS X. Boot from the install disk as in point 5. and select Disk Utility again. Now erase the whole hard drive and install OS X again. If you had a Time Machine backup and step 7 worked you don't have to do this.
