Airport 4.2 vs Sony PSP WEP

I don't know if Apple scans this forum for user reports of incompatabilities, but I suppose they're more likely to see them here than in Sony's Playstation.com forums. In any event...WEP encryption in the new PSP 2.0 firmware is strangely incompatible with Airports updated with the firmware included in 4.2, though it works after a rollback to earlier versions of the Airport firmware. This is with the Japanese 2.0 PSP firmware...it's possible that Sony will have fixed the bug in the U.S. version of the firmware scheduled for release later this week. If they don't, however, Airport users with PSPs will definitely want to consider a rollback. This has been posted about in Sony's forums, but I haven't seen it mentioned here. If Sony doesn't fix it, I sure hope Apple will address this in the next Airport firmware...

I've got my PSP connected to my AEBS. Here are some hints:
1) On the PSP, use "Infrastructure Mode" is the "Network Settings" screen. (You've probably already done this.)
2) Continuing on the PSP, use the "Enter Manually" menu pick. (This may not be necessary, and it may be simpler to use an alternative; I'm just reporting on what's worked for me.) Enter the AEBN SSID (the network name).
3) For the PSP WLAN security setting, use WPA-PSK (TKIP). Obviously, this is not the far less desirable WEP setting, so you'll have to reconfigure your AEBS to use WPA Personal. Nobody uses WEP anymore unless they have some very old wireless hardware that can't be upgraded. Enter the WPA Key on the PSP.
4) Finish the network settings on the PSP. I used manual address assignment with no proxy; the PSP settings are pretty much the same as wireless notebook clients except for the manually chosen IP address. Things should work at this point.
Again, the big change is to use WPA Personal (same as WPA-PSK TKIP). Try it and see.

  • Sony PSP connection to Airport

My son got a Sony PSP for X-mas and we have been trying to connect it to our home Airport Extreme network via wi-fi. The PSP sees our network and shows a strong signal. I popped in the Hex equivalent WEP key, but when I go to connect it tells me that don't have the authority to connect. I also have a Wii that I connected without any problems. Am I missing something?

Sony PSP is a 811.11 B device (not G). So if only 811.11G enabled on your Airport, it won't be able to use it. If you made Airport "811.11G only", this is the case.
Also the security must be "WPA and WPA2", not "WPA2 only".
If these doesn't work. If you got a memory stick with PSP (I guess bundled) and if there is some other open network which you can connect (such as Cafe, neighbor etc.) , you should charge it completely and run its "Firmware update check", which is similar to OS X Software update.

  • Connection of Sony PSP to iMac wirelessly

Is it possible to connect a Sony PSP and my iMac provided that PSP can only be connected to any computer through Wi-Fi?
Is the built-in Airport good enough for that? I don't use it, because my internet is working through Ethernet (I've got a cable modem), so I have no clue of its capabilities.
    Thanks for your ideas.
    Mike

I don't have a PSP so I don't know for sure, but you can use your iMac's airport as a wifi hotspot. go to the wifi menu icon in the top right corner, when you turned airport on there will be an option "Create Network...", use that to create a wifi network then try connect to that using your PSP.

  • AP Extreme w/ Sony PSP

I was wondering if anyone has tried to use the Sony PSP with the AP Extreme? The PSP is picking up and reading my connection, but it wont actually connect to the internet. The Sony people said that my router must be 802.11B mode compatable??? HELP!!!

Try assigning your PSP the following IP address:
    IP Address: 10.0.1.201
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router (Gateway): 10.0.1.1
    DNS: 10.0.1.1
Try to connect. If that doesn't work, try putting the PSP with that address up as a Default Host in the AirPort Admin Utility.

  • Best cable to use to connect an Airport Express to a Sony DE 1075?

Hi, Does anyone have suggestions on the best kind of cable (RCA etc) to use to connect an Airport Express to a Sony DE 1075 receiver (the receiver was purchased about 10 years ago)...I have the receiver hooked up to a Bose Acoutimass 15 sound system. Thanks,

If you plan to use the AUX input on the Sony receiver, then you will need a cable that consists of a 3.5 mm Stereo Mini plug on one end and 2 RCA plugs on the other.
The RCA plugs are almost always color coded red and white to designate the left (white) and right (red) channel.
Any electronics superstore will have what you need, as will the Radio Shack.
If you are still not sure what you need, take a picture of the back panel of the Sony receiver using your camera phone and take the AirPort Express with you to the store.

    Hello!

I assume all is rendered at 100% and you Mixed Down (in the Sequence Menu).
It sounds like it may be one of those quirky things like a key stroke character used in the file name that OSX doesn't like.

  • Iphoto thinks my sony psp is a camera... What do I do?

I just upgraded from ilife '06 to ilife '08 today, and I'm having lots and lots of unpleasant surprises. The latest is that iPhoto now thinks my Sony PSP is a camera.
***? This certainly wasn't a problem with iPhoto 6; how do I prevent this while still letting iPhoto recognize my real cameras?

Evidently the formatting of the PSP is such that iPhoto thinks it's a memory card in a camera. You will have to open Image Capture, go to its Preferences and set None as the application to open when a camera is connected. Then manually launch iPhoto when you connect your camera to upload. That's your only option.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can I put a movie from Itunes, onto my Sony PSP?

I recently got the Hunger Games, and it came with a digital copy of which I registered on Itunes. I'm looking to put this copy onto my Sony PSP 3000, but alas it's not working, and I'm getting quite frustrated.
Please help me resolve this, many thanks.

Sorry, but you cannot. Movies from the iTunes Store can be played only in Apple's software and on Apple's devices.

  • Is is possible to use a netgear wireless router to share a cable internet connection between an airport express and a Sony BD player?

    Hi,
I have a couple of netgear wireless routers (WGR614, WPN824 v3) as well as a Belkin wireless router (F5D8233-4v3) lying around, and was wondering if it is possible to use any of these to share the internet feed from a cable modem to both an airport express and a Sony Blu-Ray Player?  I connected the WPN824 router between the cable modem and the airport express but the airport express will only give an orange light then as if it does not have internet access.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Many thanks.

What you are basically attempting to do is extend the Belkin router with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) via a wireless connection between them. This method is known as a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). Unfortunately, WDS is not a standard and router manufacturers implemented, in most part, to only work with their products ... so it will be very unlikely that you can create a WDS between your Belkin and the AX. There have been a few Belkin model that have been updated by third-party firmware that support WDS, but the models you listed are not any of them.

Can you try a clean install, as follows:
Download the current uninstallerUninstaller for 32 bit Operating Systems
Close all browser windows and run the uninstaller
    Restart Windows
Delete all remaining files and folders located in the following directories.  (tip: copy and paste these paths into the path bar in an Explorer window)
    C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash (if it exists)
    %appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
    %appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player
Verify that the file “FlashPlayerCPLApp.cpl” in C:\Window\system32\ for 32 bit systems or C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ if you are using a 64 bit system, has been deleted
Download and run the offline installers
    for Internet Explorer
    for other browsers
If the problem persists, can you go to http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect and check if there are newer device drivers available for your display adapter?

  • Is Flash Player 7 available on any Sony PSP's?

What version of Flash is available on later model Sony PSP's or firmware updates? I know that Flash 6 is included starting in Sony firmware revision 2.70, but did Sony ever create firmware with Flash Player 7 or later? Is there a listing of which versions of Flash are in which Sony PSP models and firmware?
    Thanks,
    Josh

Yeah, it's probably not a driver thing.  If you haven't rebooted already, definitely do that.  It might just be that the graphics hardware is in a bad state.
The last thing we shipped was December 9th, so it's not like Flash Player changed.  If these symptoms just started recently, it seems unlikely that a recent change to Flash is the root-cause.  It's possible that Chrome might have pushed a change since then, but I talked to the Chrome guys yesterday and they didn't mention anything about a widespread video playback problem.  They have really excellent telemetry, so they usually know pretty quickly when things break.
It might be that your Chrome install is somehow damaged, and you could do a complete uninstall/reinstall of Chrome to see if the issue goes away.  You can also disable hardware acceleration in Chrome itself (it's under Preferences > Advanced > System > Use hardware acceleration if available) to see if that helps.
Is the issue isolated to a specific video or video site/sites?  Does it happen in either Internet Explorer or Firefox (they're both significantly different copies of Flash Player, which would be an interesting data point)?
