Airport 5ft generation looses connection to my Wifi as range extender, why?

When I restart my Extreme it runs ok, after a minute or so it looses connection and cannot be found again by Apple my airport configuration program.
How is this possible and or what can I do to fix it.

Are you running Yosemite on a computer?? That has very limited ability to configure anything.
Use airport utility in iOS like ipad is much better.. get up close to the Airport Extreme to do it.
If you are attempting to extend range of non-apple router that is impossible .. so the AE might simply disappear.
You can only extend apple to another apple by apple. This is very inbreed.
If you have non apple router you will have to connect the two by ethernet.. or perhaps EOP adapters.

Airport express keeps loosing connection to Time Capsule

For several years I have had no issue with mt Airport Express staying connected to my Time Capsule/router. Now 2 of my Airport Expresses keep loosing the connection and flashing yellow. I have done the resets where I press in the little button on the bottom while plugging the AE back into the power source and reconnecting through Airport Utility and that will do the trick but after a short time the flashing yellow lights will go back on.
Would it help to turn off the router, rest all the AEs? It is so frustrating to keep loosing the connection and nothing else has changed; e.g. the AEs are all in the same place.

Same thing here! I didnt have the problem with airport express until I update the os from 10.6.2 to 10.6.6. I have been calling the apple support and they couldnt help (or thou sounded like they knew for that particular problem). I got from my work MacBookPro and same thing happen. I hope that apple will read this and just want to tell them that this is my 10 computer made by apple and God knows the last one! First of all they made the the fireware with the bad chipsets so I have to but extra cards and then airport. I cant connect at all to any wifi and have to put the cables on the floor from the wifi router to the ethernet input which is more than 10 metres. Apple sort this asap!!!!!!!!!!

I have an ipod touch 3rd generation 64gb and it has iOS 5.1.1 and it will connect to my WiFi for a few seconds and then nothing will load. It says I have full connection bbut nothing works. I have 2nd generation ipod and it connects fine. Along with my laptop and xbox 360. I have tried downgrading it and restoring it from itunes. I also tried forgetting the network and inputting it myself but it sti does the same thing. I even tried resetting my wireless modem but it still didnt make a change. I really could use some help. I can't call apple cause im no longer under warranty.

Reset the iPod and connect to its syncing computer. It it shows in iTunes restore the iPod.
Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mod will allow iTunes t see the iPod so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:

2 Airport extremes, one as base and one as a range extender?

Hope someone can help. I have 2 aiport extremes n version. I want to use one as a base station (which it is already) and another as 'range extender'. Airport utility only seems to allow a set up as a base station but I just what to open up a new bit of our house...any wireless wizz's out there?

You can check your critical settings as follows using AirPort Utility - Manual Setup:
On the "main" AirPort Extreme
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Make sure you have a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
Update to save settings
On the "remote Airport Extreme
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Exact same name as "Main" network
Check mark next to "Allow wireless clients"
Wireless Security = Exact same setting as "Main" network
Wireless Password = Exact password as "Main" network
Update to save settings
You may need to experiment to find the best placement for the "remote" AirPort Extreme. Start with it positioned approximately 1/2 to 2/3 of the distance between the "Main" router and the general area that needs more wireless coverage.

Airport Extreme - Can't Connect to 5Ghz Wifi

Recently I purchased a AT&T MiFi device called a UnitePro. This device allows me to broadcast a a dual band wifi if wanted. It also allows one or both of those to be 2.4Ghz or 5.
After doing some research and discovering that the 5Ghz band can be faster, I wanted to connect to it from my iMac. I have been unable to do so since first attempting...
I have a mid 2010 27" iMac i7 which came with a built-in AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x8F) wifi card.
So I have done a bunch of research on this issue and I think I understand the problem that I am having, however I do not understand what (if any) my solutions can be. It appears that when an AirPort interface is turned on, it listens for 802.11d beacon packets, and those contain what it called a regulatory domain field. Then the Airport driver uses the first valid regdomain setting it sees. In my case it is picking up a strong beacon from a neighbors house. The problem is that his router is set with a country code of ZW (Zimbabwe)! This my problem.... Zimbabwe's regulatory laws prohibit the routers to support channels above 13, or at least this one does, I don't fully understand it, but I get the gist.
So what this means is that I can not use my iMac to connect to my new router because quite simply the channels that 5Ghz broadcasts on are not even available.
I know this has been a topic of discussion in the past, but I couldn't find a good answer as to what to do. So... What can I do to get my 5Ghz network working?

It sounds like when the Internet went down, the modem got "confused" and didn't remember that the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) was connected to it.
Please try the following:
o Power-down the modem, AEBSn & computers. Order is not critical.
o While the power is off, check to see if the modem employs a backup batter. If it does, temporarily remove it, and then, replace it.
o Power-on the modem. If it has one, press and hold the modem's reset button for at least 3-5 seconds. After power-up or reset, wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
o Power-on the computer(s).
Your computers should be able to access the Internet (& access web sites) now. Please post back your results.

My airport extreme keeps loosing connections....

not just to the wireless network but also to the plugged in lan, although the light stays green. Upon rebooting, everything comes back for a while but then it happens again. Is this product failing? This extreme is 2 years old.

The BT Hub is a gateway.....a device that has both a modem and router on the same chassis. The AirPort Extreme is a router. It does not have a modem on board.
So, your options are to use the BT Hub to provide the modem functionality for the AirPort Extreme, or if you do not want to use the BT Hub, then you will need to acquire a simple DSL modem.
Since you must have a device to provide modem functionality "between" the wall connection and the AirPort Extreme, you might as well use the BT Hub for this purpose unless you have a specific reason not to do this.

Why won't my airport express generation 1 connect to anything any more?

All I get is flashing green light which tells me it's trying to connect. It's worked perfectly for years until this week. Have Apple done some automatic updating which means it won't work any more? As it won't initiate it won't, therefore, show on my computer so I can't 'talk' to it at all.

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.

Airport Express sometimes looses connection

About once a week Airport Express stops comunicating with the Macs, iPhones & iPads.
It looks like it is still working, green led flashing normal indicating data transfer.
Unplugging power for a few seconds to do a restart always fixes the problem.

but it's not that Airport does not work at all.. I DO HAVE internet connection perfectly well... (I wrote in my original topic: What works.. Music Store (which also uses Internet from within iTunes)
The only thing which does occasionaly drop is: Remote speakers..
and I do want a fool proof concept of getting them back... I don't want to play around days after days.. in testing stuff which does not work

Airport doesn't automatically connect to my preferred network

I had my hard drive replaced and ever since my airport doesn't automatically connect to my wifi network. I have specified my network as my preferred network in my system preferences.
I need to re-connect to the network manually (ie: I need to select my network form the drop down list) each time I wake my computer up from sleep mode.
How do I have my airport automatically connect??

Go to System Preferences then select the Network icon.
Select the airport adaptor then click advanced
the first tab "Airport" has all your recent SSID's listed.
Select the desired network and drag it to the top of the list and check the " Remember Networks this computers has joined."
Apart from that the next best thing would be to removed all the networks from the list and add that network you wish to join to verify its configuration

Time capsule 1st generation loosing Internet connection

I have a time capsule 1st generation on my iMac. Since I updated to Lion, my time capsule started to flash orange every hour or so… it's extremely annoying and I really have NO idea what to do.
Here's some specs and configuration for my network
Firmware: 7.5.2 (75200.14)
Wireless Security: WAP2 Personal
Allow this network to be extended CHECKED
Channel: Automatic
Radio Mode: 802.11n only (2.4GHz) - I tried on 5GHz only and I had the same problem.
Multicast Rate: 6Mbps
WPA Group Key Timeout: 1 hour - I tried 1 day, 10 days, X months, doesn't matter, problem still here
Create a closed network - UNCHECKED - Because the mac mini keeps on "forgetting" the network and it ***** to remember such a long password so I decided not to hide it anymore
Since the time capsule is pretty close to my computer, I use an ethernet cable but everything else in the house is Wireless (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Mac Mini, apple tv, Macbook Pro and Macbook)

I found out that if you are already in airport when the problem starts, it doesn't update the message but the light gets amber and you loose connection for more or less 15 seconds.
I got this issue again this morning, opened up airport and got 2 messages... then it went back online as if nothing happened. It's doing this every single hour.
Since I can't plugg on wifi only since I ALSO get the "No Hardware Installed" message in wifi, I have to be plug with the ethernet cable

I have had my ipod 4th generation for a year now and had not had any problems until now. My ipod no longer connects to my WiFi. i have reset my network settings, forgot my network and followed all of Apple's advice. Any ideas?

Does the iPod see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Yes, Airport Express Base Station connected to your Mac by ethernet will work as a bridge. Or you can connect the AE directly to your router/modem by ethernet if it's a non-wi-fi router and it will act as a relay for that.

Using Airport for office network and still connect to public wifi

I work in the public sector and we have open public wifi network that we can connect to, but have no control over and would never be given no access by our service user. we are a small sub contractor in a office tucked away.
We have 3 Macs and 2 wifi printers and several iPhones and iPads, our thought was to link them all and create a mini local network using the Airport extreme but still stay connected to the Wifi. as the only other option would be a 4G router but that is hit and miss with the connection.
After much stubbornness on my behalf i can not seem to fathom a way round this problem, is there a solution with the devices we have

No we can't get access from the company we work for they let us have wifi access only with no controls.
and the building has no phone access as we are in the middle of a hospital.
the office has all its devices and printers that we can't link but separately we can connect to the guest wifi

Called up the apple support services on Dec 9, 2013 and was on line for almost 1 hour without a solution. However, received a call back from team in Singapore on the same day and commitment to revert on the issue within 24 hrs. Received a call within 24 hrs and the entire discussion came down to the point that I have to manually set the grace digital equipment.
I tried other options and eventually the simplest thing to do was to set the connection option to DHCP only and ignore the error.
Now its working fine..

WiFi looses connection when idling

I've updated to Mavericks and since then I've following issue. If my network connection idles for a certain amount of time, Mavericks decides to drop the connection. The WiFi smybol gets greyed out and I have to maually reconnect to my network. Following can be seen in the console:

The connection has to idle only for a few seconds till Mavericks decides to drop it. What can be done against this?

Try going to the Energy Saver preferences in Preferences, and change the "power adapter" sleep settings.
I think Mavericks by default has it go to sleep after about 15 minutes, when before it just powered the screen off.
