Airport Admin Utility for Windows oddity

I have 29 Airport Express Units installed on my campus, configured with no problems using Mac OS. On my other computer, a Dell, I recentily reinstalled everything from scratch (a necessary evil!). I installed the latest "unsupported" version of the Apple Admin Utility for Windows, v3.2.
When I start the utility, I get the Base Station Chooser window, and it shows all 29 stations listed. The second column, however, showing the IP addresses of all the stations, lists 254.128.0.0 as the IP address for ALL 29 stations. The right hand panel shows the correct Name, Description, and MAC addresses of each unit as it is selected in the list, but shows the same incorrect IP address.
If I pick a until to configure, it asks for a password, which I enter, and then fails with a message Error Code: -4. "An error occurred while trying to access the base station. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again."
The units are working fine, and the administration of the units from any of our Macs is also fine.
Has anyone seen this? Any ideas on a fix?

  • Airport Admin Utility for Windows 2000

Hi all. I'm running win2000 on a thinkpad, trying to hookup to our airport. My son's laptop and g4 (apple) work fine. I need an Airport Administration utility compatible with win2000 and the GRAPHITE Airport. The Airport Admin Utility 3.2 is NOT compatible with the Graphite colored (original?) model airport

jasonKram, Welcome to the discussion area!
You don't need any AirPort software on your thinkpad to connect to the wireless network provided by the graphite AirPort base station (ABS). You would connect to it just like you would connect to any other 802.11b wireless network.
Be aware that the graphite ABS only supports 64 (aka 40) bit WEP. If this graphite is using WEP, you need to ask your son to use AirPort Admin Utility to find the "equivalent network password". That is what you would enter for the password from Windows 2000.

  • Need AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow

hey there.....any help would be greatly appreciated.....
I ave passed along my graphite base station to my brother in law for his new iMac and it seems he needs the "AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow" to get it set up. The new "Airport Utility" doesn't seem to recognize it. Is the utility still available for download? I can't seem to find it anywhere?
Another option....is it possible to copy and paste the utility into my iDisk and have him download it from there?? Not sure it that will work??
Again...many thanks for any help anyone can offer!!!!!

AirPort Admin Utility, version 4.2, which works with Graphite and Snow base stations, can be found within the download of AirPort 4.2 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airport42formacosx1033.html).
I tried it on my MacBook running Mac OS X 10.4.10, with a Graphite base station, and it works fine, so far as I can tell.
I did not actually try to install AirPort 4.2 using the installer, because I was afraid of messing with my system when all I wanted was the utility. Here is how to get it:
    - Download the disk image AirPortSW42.dmg from the Web page mentioned above. If the installer launches, quit the installer.
    - Double-click the disk image to mount a volume named "AirPort 4.2 Update."
    - Within the AirPort 4.2 Update window, ctrl-click on "AirPortSW.pkg."
    - Select "Show Package Contents."
    - Open the "Contents" folder.
    - Double-click the "Archive.pax.gz" file, which causes an "Archive.pax" file and an "Archive" folder to be extracted to the desktop.
    - Open the "Archive" folder, the "Applications" folder within it, and the "Utilities" folder within that.
    - The AirPort Admin Utility is there. You can move it to Applications/Utilities and discard everything else that was downloaded.
Thanks to Tesserax (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5136389&#5136389) for recently explaining how to extract an AirPort utility from a download package.
Although I have never seen "AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow," it probably was the same thing as AirPort Admin Utility, just renamed.

  • How can I get AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5 to work with OS10.6?

I've upgraded to the latest version of Mac OS and now AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5 won't run. Any suggestions on how to either run this utility or otherwise get access to my old Snow Dual Airport via another method? Airport Utility doesn't see the device, despite repeated scans. My computer and iPad connect no problem to the device, but both iPod and iPhone won't take and hold an IP address. (If any one can help me solve this issue, I can live without access the Airport.)
    Thanks,

Unfortunately, you will need another Mac running a much earlier version of OS X to be able to install AirPort Admin Utility and make any settings chances to the router.
Since the normal life of a wireless router is around 5-6 years of use, now might be the time to consider a new router that will provide far better performance than the older Graphite/Snow AirPort.

  • Where is airport admin utility for lion

There does not seem to be an airport admin utility for airport extreme, I only have the airport utililty that doesn't seem to allow any setup changes.  It also  does not give options for set up changes  when there is no green light for the base station.

Hi - to get the full featured Airport Utility 5.6 for Lion, go to the following link for the download - you can keep 6.1 and 5.6 on your computer.

Use it to configure the Extreme when you have problems.

  • Which Airport Admin utility for White Base Station

I would like to know which version I need for a Windows XP machine and where I can get this version.
I've spent the last hour online trying to find out and am losing the will to live....
I have an old white base station simply called Airport Base Station (there are 4 sockets on the back of it 1. Phone line 2. WAN ethernet 3. LAN ethernet 4. power supply)
I want to configure it using my Windows machine as my old MAC has died.
    Hope someone can help.
    Thanks
    Geoff

Geoff, welcome to the discussions area.
A model number of the AirPort Extreme would really help us help you here and minimize the chances of providing the wrong information to you.
It's usually on the back or on the bottom of the device. Something like A1034 maybe?
If you can't find the model number, you could take a chance with AirPort Utility 7.4.2 for Windows. No guarantees here, I'm afraid, but it won't take long to try.
Both the Windows Firewall and/or anti-virus software on a PC may try to block the connection from AirPort Utility to your device, so you may need to go into the applications to "allow" the connection or temporarily disable the applications until you can configure the AirPort Extreme.

Hello Peter Mason1. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The new v5.x version of the AirPort Utility comes on the installation CD that came with your new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn).

  • How can I get Airport Admin Utility to Locate My Extreme Base Station?

In an effort to repair some network connection problems I was having with my ISP (or so I thought), I reset my Airport Extreme Base station today. I have been unable to get it back to normal since. I'm currently connected to my ISP through an Ethernet connection directly from my modum to my iBookG4. Now, when I try to re-established the old network connections with my Airport Extreme, I cannt get the system to recognize a base station. When I use the Airport Admin Utility, the window pops up and *** me to select a base station, but there are none in the window. When I rescan, nothing comes up. The airport setuup utility has been no help either. Any ideas how to get my base station back? Thanks!

    Hi, Tesserax:
Thanks so much for your reply. I tried the direct connection, as suggested in a previous message I saw on this board. Didn't work for some reason. Lucky for me, one of my neighbors works in the tech department of a nearby Apple Store. Last night he was able to get the base station working again. I wish I could share how he did it on this message board, but it was beyond my modest understanding. Again, thanks for taking the time to reply!
    Best, Kevin

  • Airport admin utility

When I open airport admin utility, the window 'select base station' opens but I can''t see my base station or anything at all, it's just empty, like no one lives there.
    I have 2 emac's, 1-G5 dual 2, 1 G4, 1- PS3 and a HP Photosmart 7140 all on a WEP network (13 digit password for the PS3).
It all works perfectly except my printer does not work on the wireless anymore. Thats why I'm trying to see whats in the 'airport admin utility'.
    What gives? Thanks to anyone.
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    1-imac core duo 2.1, 1- G5 dual 2.0, 2 emacs, 1-G4/ 400   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I am experiencing the exact same problem with the exact same AE base station. At one point today, even though my internet connection stayed up, this problem began. I first notice that iTunes had dropped my wirelss network airtunes speakers, then I proceeded to trouble shoot, and discovered I could not load the base station configuration settings in the Admin Utility, nor could the Utility find the Base Station via scan. Entering IP address returned an error message communicating with the base station. This communication error came up when I tried to update the firmware, with (-8) indicated.
Plugging the ethernet cable directly from my PowerBook to the base station returned an error reading the configuration. It appears that the base station has lost the ability to maintain an IP address, or possbly database corruption.
Any experience with this or ideas, anyone? I'm not beyond buying the new one to solve this problem, the base station in question is around 3 years old.

  • Non LAN IP address showing up in LAN in Airport Admin Utility

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have two Airport Expresses, with the second one (for AirTunes only) joined to the existing network of the first one. The strange thing is, the IP address in the Airport Admin Utility for the second one shows up as an ISP IP (ie 134.362.74.141) while the first (base) one shows as 10.0.01. To top it off, I've already factory reset the second one twice now, but I still get the same ISP IP addresses and I can't get its configuration profile to open via the Airport Admin Utility.

If you hold in the reset button while plugging the Express unit into a convenient electrical receptacle, the old profiles will also be eliminated while the factory reset is done.

  • "Confirguration Error" in Airport Admin Utility

When I start up the Airport Admin Utility, an error shows: "Configuration Error: This version of Airport Admin Utility does not support this base station. You can't update the software for this base station...."
    My system basics:
    Airport Admin Utility v420.31
    Airport Extreme (UFO) v4.0.9
I cannot upgrade the Airport firmware due to the above error. I searched in the Apple support site and cannot find the later version of Admin Utility for download.
    Please help!!!!

Since I am using Mac OS X10.3.9, I cannot use "Airport Utility".
Actually, I try "Airport Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow" but another error message prompted up. That is :"Airport Admin Utility does not support this base statin. Use Airport Utility, located in the Utility folder...."
    So frustrated!!
    I try:
    Airport Admin Utility --> Failed
Airport Admin Utility v4.25 --> Failed
Airport Utility v5.x --> Failed not support in OS X10.3.9

  • Error when opening Airport Utility for Windows XP

Help! I have recently purchased and Airport extreme base station and the supplied Airport Utility software will not open. I am operating on Windows XP pro, and have installed the latest software updates to no avail. Is there an older version or perhaps an oblique solution to run the utility software?
    Thanks.

  • Airport Utility for Windows fails during install

I downloaded the latest driver for the airport utility for Windows 7.   Ran the exec and during the install had a failure on some file that didn't get installed.
Have all firewalls down.  Utility comes up but doesn't find my airport extreme.

Thanks.  Tried the hard wire approach and the utility didn't find it.   Did the config other and it was found.  So the unit is there but the utility can find it which is what I need in order to connect the shared drive to my windows 7 system.
The airport base station agent is running and configured but I never get a prompt to enter the disk password.
Nice clue about using the IP to connect.
I did this via WIFI. Used my iMac to get the IP address.
The time machine is in bridge mode and connecting through another router to the internet.
