Airport Admin Utility v4 with older Airport base station

I'm trying to reconfigure my Airport network and AP Admin Utility v4.2 sees my base station but cannot access it. The network works fine as it is, but I can't change it. Is there an issue of the newer software with the older hardware?

Stephen:
1. if you have an older Snow or Graphite Base Station, you can only use the Airport Express as a client to the existing wireless network. This means you can stream iTunes to it, and print to a printer cabled to it. You cannot use the Airport Express as a "wireless to wired" bridge.
2. since you now seem to be "stuck" - I suggest you unplug the Airport Express from power and ignore it for now. Get your original wireless network setup working again. Then hard reset the Airport Express, run the Airport Setup Assistant, and use its guidance to configure the Airport Express to join the existing wireless network created by your older Base Station.

  • How can I get Airport Admin Utility to Locate My Extreme Base Station?

In an effort to repair some network connection problems I was having with my ISP (or so I thought), I reset my Airport Extreme Base station today. I have been unable to get it back to normal since. I'm currently connected to my ISP through an Ethernet connection directly from my modum to my iBookG4. Now, when I try to re-established the old network connections with my Airport Extreme, I cannt get the system to recognize a base station. When I use the Airport Admin Utility, the window pops up and *** me to select a base station, but there are none in the window. When I rescan, nothing comes up. The airport setuup utility has been no help either. Any ideas how to get my base station back? Thanks!

    Hi, Tesserax:
Thanks so much for your reply. I tried the direct connection, as suggested in a previous message I saw on this board. Didn't work for some reason. Lucky for me, one of my neighbors works in the tech department of a nearby Apple Store. Last night he was able to get the base station working again. I wish I could share how he did it on this message board, but it was beyond my modest understanding. Again, thanks for taking the time to reply!
    Best, Kevin

  • Airport Admin Utility can't find Airport Extreme

I have an older Airport Extreme, about 4 years old. It's been giving me trouble lately, where basically I check my computer and it's not online. I have to click the tiny reset button on the back of the airport and that usually works fine (although annoying).
Today the problem seems a bit worse. I tried the reset thing, but that didn't work. So I tried to do a reset through the airport admin utility. Unfortunately the utility can't seem to detect the airport, although it does detect the airport express we have downstairs (which is essentially used to extend our network a little further).
Currently, of the three tiny lights at the front of the airport, only the middle one is lit, and it is not flashing. Earlier, just after doing a restart, the middle light was blinking slowly and the third light (the one on the far right) was blinking more rapidly. I have not seen the first light lit up today.
If anyone has a suggestion on how I might get this working I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.

Are you getting internet access through the airport? I have the same problem - airport admin utility can't see the airport, but the airport extreme has created a generic network that i can't manipulate without airport admin utility. I have internet...

  • I cannot get to setup my airport extreme G router as my Airport Admin Utility is not detecting my base

I cannot get my Admin utility to detect my base and I do not know why. Please help

The issue here is that AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion 10.8.x will no longer support the older versions of the Express.
If you have been thinking of adding a newer faster AirPort Express, now would be a very good time to do this.
If you want to continue to use the older Express, there is a special workaround that will allow you to install a version of AirPort Utility on Mountain Lion that can be used with your Express.
See this article for more details:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1167965/mountain_lion_and_the_ancient_airport_ba se_station.html
As you might imagine, this is not officially supported by Apple. It does work for me, but there is no way to know if it will work well for you.

  • Airport Admin scan doesn't pick up  base station or Airport Express

I have two airport networks (802.11n)in separate buildings. Each has an Airport Extreme Base station, an Airport Express, and a PC connected to the base station via ethernet cable. Both PCs are able to access the internet through ethernet connections to the base station.
In one network, Airport Admin run from the PC recognizes the base station and the express and allows the settings to be changed. In the other network, Airport Admin run from the PC scans and doesn't find anything. Running Airport Admin from a MacBook Pro finds everything and allows any setting to be modified.
I'm trying to stream AirTunes from the PC through the Airport Extreme and can't do so because Airport Admin can't find the network. AirTunes works flawlessly from the MacBook.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Luther

  • AirPort Disk Utility doesn't show AE Base Station-connected USB Hard Drive

I've got my AirPort network up and running, but I can't get he AirPort Disk Utility to recognise my LaCie USB Hard Drive.
A menu popped up once saying it had "become available" and asked me to eneter a password, but when I did it said it was incorrect (it wasn't) and the drive had disappeared again.
    Suggestions?

  • Configuration Error with Airport Admin Utility. Where is the newer version?

I am trying to make a change in Airport Admin . I am getting a pop-up saying
"Configuration Error" This version of Airport Admin Utility does not support this base station. You can't update the software for this base station, but you may be able to make configuration changes to it". ...
It says go to apple.com/support to locate a newer version - but I can't find one.
Does anyone know where it is?

Your first post indicated that you were using "AirPort Admin Utility".
If you have the new square 802.11b/g/n AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) ou don't want to use that.
Instead you want to use "AirPort Utility".

  • Airport Admin Utility Error

I just bought a new G5 with the new Airport Extreme and upgraded to OS X 10.4.9 because I was getting a "Configuration" error when running the Airport Admin Utility. The error reads "Configuration Error, This version of Airport Admin Utility does not support this base station." I went the the apple support site and downloaded an update to the airport extreme software.
The problem was not solved. While I can connectivity through ethernet on one machine, the airport's light is flashing amber and I have no wireless connectivity. Could anyone help me with this? Thanks

Airport Utility is for the new Airport Extreme although one can use it to setup an Express to a point.
The Airport Admin Utility does not work with the new Extreme router.
When you install the Airport software from the CD you received when you bought the router it does not overwrite the older Airport software.

  • Airport Admin Utility Problem: Configuration error

I just bought an Airport Extreme 802.11n. Installed the program, checked for updates, setted up, everything is working fine.
Except, the AirPort Admin Utility. Everytime I open the program and select Config, it pops up with a window that says Config Error: This version of AirPort Admin Utility does not support this base station. You can't update the sofware for this base station, but you may be able to make confiuration changes to it.
And this window does not go away when I click continue. But I am able to change password and select any of the options that is showing on the current screen. But the error window does not go away.
I need to get into the Port Mapping window but this error window is blocking it. Please Help.

On mine there was a previous Airport Admin Utility App. This one was pre-installed and doesn't work with my new AirPort Extreme BS. There is another App called, "Airport Utility" that was installed from the new DVD and it works w/ the new Airport Extreme BS.

  • AirPort Admin Utility - Configuration Error - no support in Support

Receive the following dialog box when opening Airport Admin Utility / Configure on my Airport Extreme. Am running OSX 10.4.11 and Apple Base Station 7.2.1
    Configuration Error
This version of Airport Admin Utility does not support this base station. You can't update the software for this base station, but you may be able to make configuration changes to it. Please go to www.apple.com/support to locate a newer version of the Airport Admin Utility.
[] No longer warn me for this base station [Continue]
Cannot get out of this with the Continue option and cannot locate a newer version of the utility. Please advise, thanks.

You can update to Airport Utility 5.2.1 with this set of updates:

  • "Configuration Error... download a new AirPort Admin Utility" Ok where?

    I just purchased a new airpot extreme. So far, no problems until now. I wanted to reconfigure it to add a password etc, but when I select "configure" in my current Airport Admin Utility (located: Applications - Utilities - Airport Admin Utility) I get the following message;
    Configuration Error
This version of AirPort Admin Utility does not support this base station. You can't update the software for this base station, but you may be able to make configuration changes to it. Please go to www.apple.com/support to locate a newer version of the AirPort Admin Utility.
It won't let me pass this warning. I've searched the support pages for the AirPort Extreme but havn't been able to find any new Admin Utilities. Only updates for the one I guess I don't have. Which is weird because my MacBook is not that old. It's Intel based.
    Someone, please help.

    Me again,
Ok, say I threw that away, where can I go to download
    it?
I had a feeling that what I needed was on the CD.
Dang it. I'm so used to Apple being on top of
updates and the like, that I've fallen into the
routine of tossing out the CD's that come with what
I buy. Otherwise I have a small libarary full of
CD's and what nots to manage.
There is the place to go:

See "Update Your Software" in the lower right.

  • Configuration error -- airport admin utility

I'm stuck and hoping someone here might be able to help me. I have a new AirPort Extreme 802.11n and when I open the airport admin utility, a "Configuration Error" message appears telling me that "This version of Airport Admin Utility does not support this base station..."
What's worse is that there is only a "Continue" button, and it does not work (i.e. does not do anything, including dismiss the message box).
I installed the software that came with the router, but I get this error on both my MBP and my iMac.
I've tried selecting the check box that says "No longer warn me for this base station", but I am still unable to dismiss this message. The fact that this message won't go away means I can't access the panel behind it to actually configure the router. The message is not modal but also not draggable, so although I can access some fields, I can't access the fields directly underneath the message.
This is so frustrating -- please help!

    Hi James,
The installation disk that came with your AE installed two programs to your Utilities folder. One is Airport Utility. The other is Airport Disk Utility.
The Airport Administration Utility was already on your machine, and that only works with previous Airports. Go back again and click to open Airport Utility and you should be fine.

  • "Confirguration Error" in Airport Admin Utility

When I start up the Airport Admin Utility, an error shows: "Configuration Error: This version of Airport Admin Utility does not support this base station. You can't update the software for this base station...."
    My system basics:
    Airport Admin Utility v420.31
    Airport Extreme (UFO) v4.0.9
I cannot upgrade the Airport firmware due to the above error. I searched in the Apple support site and cannot find the later version of Admin Utility for download.
    Please help!!!!

Since I am using Mac OS X10.3.9, I cannot use "Airport Utility".
Actually, I try "Airport Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow" but another error message prompted up. That is :"Airport Admin Utility does not support this base statin. Use Airport Utility, located in the Utility folder...."
    So frustrated!!
    I try:
    Airport Admin Utility --> Failed
Airport Admin Utility v4.25 --> Failed
Airport Utility v5.x --> Failed not support in OS X10.3.9

  • Accessing older mac base station

I'm trying to connect with my airport on my MacBook (OS X 10.4.8) to a base station using 10.3.9. My airport shows a good connection, and I can even see the base station computer in Networks, but there is no internet connection. Under the Airport Admin utility, I received a conficuration error that said, "This version of Airport Admin Utility does not support this base station. You can't update the software for this base station, but you may be able to make configuration changes to it. Please go to www.apple.com/support to locate a newer version of the Airport Admin Utility." I can't find what I need on this site. Is it even possible?

...to a base station using 10.3.9.
The base stations don't use OS X at all.
If it is the round AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS), the AirPort Admin Utility should work.

  • AirPort Admin Utility question

Is AirPort Admin Utility, PowerPC v. 4.2, the older version of AirPort Utility, Universal v. 5.3.1?
I've got a new MacMini Intel and I somehow have both of the above in my Utilities Folder. I'm thinking that AirPort Admin Utility is the older outdated version of AirPort Utility. Is this correct?
    Thanks

More or less that is true. If you have a 802.11b Apple base station you will need the older "AirPort Admin Utility".
The newer "AirPort Utility" only works with AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS), AirPort Express (AX), and Time Capsule.
