Airport Base Station Agent in Windows 7 Hangs when mouting Time Capsule

Hey all, can't figure this one out.
The airport base station agent launches at start up and asks if I'd like to ignore or connect with password. When I choose connect with password the agent hangs, and either goes unresponsive or puts up a dialogue box saying "Could not connect to the disk. Make sure NetBios is enabled and try again (53)." Ususally it just goes unresponsive and I have to close it out. I did briefly have access for a coupple days mapped as "Z" and did a windows back up to it and saw it in "my computer" as drive "Z"
The airport utility itself sees and connects with the time capsule no problem to edit it's settings and so forth. The agent it seems which tries to mount the disk and map the drive with a letter seems to be failing or being blocked somehow. Antivurus software has been removed, the windows firewall ports are open both public and private for the agent AND the utility. NetBios is currently set back to "default" as changing it to "enabled" had no effect.
Thanks for any help YO!

After setting this thing up as a disk only basically by going through the set up process, at the end, there is a dialogue box that says the time doesn't have a valid IP address. In the input field "router address", I entered 10.0.1.1 and updated settings. The status light stopped flashing amber and turned green and now windows 7 explorer can see it and access it with no problems.

  • Airport Base Station Agent with Windows 7 and 8.1

    I am running an older HP desktop with Windows 7 and installed/set up Airport Base Station Agent successfully. I am in the process of transferring primary network control over to a newer HP Laptop with 8.1. The older computer will be retired eventually.
    Can both computers be running the Airport Base Station Agent and not disturb the Airport Base Station Agent setup?
    Or, to avoid potential Windows 7/8 conflicts, should I install the Airport Base Station Agent on the Windows 8.1 and delete/uninstall it on the Windows 7 computer (and would that require setting up again?). I am using an Airport Extreme with an Airport Express (802.11n) as an extension. Both Windows systems are fully up to date with Microsoft and HP support.

    I probably can go ahead and download/install Airport Utility on the new HP Envy Windows 8.1 (AirPort Utility 5.6.1 for Windows) and not be worried about conflicts with the 2 computers and different Windows?
    There is no conflict.

    But the evil empire is still not 100% overwhelmed by the dark side.
    You might need some apple stuff in there eventually.

  • AirPort Base Station Agent

    AirPort Base Station Agent is in my login items in System Preferences. I have no idea what this is and how it got there. It's listed as an application but it's not in my Applications folder and wasn't found when I did a search. Does anyone know what this is and if I can delete it? Thank you.

    The AirPort Base Station Agent was installed either with OS X or by installing the AirPort utilities that came on the CDs with the AirPort base stations.
    This program basically checks the status of the AirPort and periodically goes online to check for updates.

  • Airport Base Station Agent with AEX

    Hi,
    I bought an airport express last week and am happily listening to itunes on my home stereo. I noticed that the airport express installation loaded the "airport base station agent" that runs in the system tray. This seems to imply that it is possible to connect a USB drive to the AEX, to the contrary of the imformation provided by Apple. My question is, what is the base station agent for? And if it does not provide any functionality for an airport express alone, why did it install along with the airport utility?
    Thanks,
    Derek

    Hello Cannon Fodder. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    The primary purpose of the AirPort Base Station Agent is to monitor any changes in the AirPort base station itself or (if enabled) to alert you that a new firmware version is available. It DOES NOT indicate that the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), either the 802.11g or 802.11n version, can support an external HDD attached to its USB port. Sorry!

  • Airport base station agent process without the device

    Hello,
    just noticed that in the startup items of my macbook account I have an item labeled "airport base station agent".
    However, I dont have an airport base station...
    Since I'm having regular troubles with my wireless, I'm just wondering if anyone can suggest an explaination why the item is there, whether it might be an issue for my macbook wireless and whether should I remove it from the startup items or not.
    Thanks.
    Paolo

    I ended up manually removing the AirPortBaseStationAgent.plist file itself from /System/Library/LaunchAgents/ and the AirPort Base Station Agent Process has stopped running in Activity Monitor ever since. I don't know how good of an idea this was to do but it solved the problem. My AirPortBaseStationAgent.plist file had this info in it:
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>EnableTransactions</key>
    <true/>
    <key>KeepAlive</key>
    <dict>
    <key>PathState</key>
    <dict>
    <key>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AirPortBaseStationAgent.launchd</key>
    <true/>
    </dict>
    </dict>
    <key>Label</key>
    <string>com.apple.AirPortBaseStationAgent</string>
    <key>ProgramArguments</key>
    <array>
    <string>/System/Library/CoreServices/AirPort Base Station Agent.app/Contents/MacOS/AirPort Base Station Agent</string>
    <string>-launchd</string>
    <string>-allowquit</string>
    </array>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    It is an older plist file dated Dec. of 2008 which got transferred to the my iMac via the Migration Assistant in Jan. of 2009. This file somehow didn't ever seem to update no matter how I configured the AirPort Utility. The file "com.apple.AirPortBaseStationAgent.launchd" that it makes reference to in /Library/Preferences/ doesn't exist on my iMac.
    Thanks,
    Gerard

  • What is the AirPort Base Station Agent?

    I just noticed in my Login Items on one of two computers (MacPro, no Airport card) there is an Application called AirPort Base Station Agent. It is checked to be invisible on opening. On my laptop (with Airport) that Application is not listed in Login Items. I never put it there myself as I don't know what it's for. It is located in System Folder/Core Services of both computers but only listed as a startup item in one of them.
    Can anyone explain? Should it be added to the laptop login?

  • AirPort Base Station Agent active but I don't have an AirPort Base Station

    hello.
    Activity Monitor shows AirPort Base Station Agent active although I don't have an AirPort Base Station. I have a router named Speedport. Does my mac consider that an AirPort Base station, or is the Agent running idle (consuming 779,60MB Diks Space VM in vain) ?
    thanks

    It is my understanding that the AirPort Base Station Agent performs the function of checking for updates to the AirPort base stations by contacting the Apple distribution (akamai?) servers. There is a configuration setting in the AirPort Utility to enable/disable this feature. It is installed either by the CD provided with the base stations, or (I believe) it comes with the Leopard OS.

  • Airport base station agent is always running

    airport base station agent is always running on my computer and i dont know why. i dont even use a wireless connection. im not in a network. my mac connects to the internet directly through a modem. how can i shut it down.

    It can be disabled. Check out the following. I tried it myself and it works in 10.6.3.

    No. The AirPort Base Station Agent provides a means to monitor AirPort base station s.

  • Older airport extreme base station as a network extender with new time capsule

    I just bought a new time capsule (802.11ac). Can my older airport extreme base station (model A1143) be used as a network extender with it?

    Yes, although it maybe disappointing..
    There are two kinds of extending.. wireless repeater type which is poorest as it has to transfer all packets in two steps instead of one.. hence will halve the speed.
    Or using ethernet to the old extreme and set it in bridge.. You can then setup roaming network... this is much better.. but getting ethernet to the right place could be messy or expensive or both.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4260
    wireless extend doco.. mind all of this is out of date.. the basics are correct.. the methods via the airport utility may be obsolete.

    Documentation has rather lagged lately.

  • Airport Base Station configuration with Windows?

    Hi folks -
    I know this is probably an idiotic question, so I apologize.
    My cable modem is in the attic of my house, along with my Netgear router, connected to a Windows XP machine. My iMac is in the living room and connects wirelessly to that router, along with my Tivo and wireless printer.
    I want to use an Airport Extreme, rather than the Netgear router, but can I configure the Airport from the PC, or does it only allow setup from a Mac? I have no cable modem connection near the iMac, so that isn't really an option.
    Thanks for input.

    Dan,
    You could use:
    http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty1.pl/product=07310&cat=1&platform =osx&method=sa/AirPortSetup.exe
    which is found on the page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/airport/
    I use it from my dark side pc (Dell with XP) sometimes.

  • I deleted Bonjour, since I don't need it for remote printing.  Now I get the message " Airport Base Station has stopped working: and also a message saying APAgent.exe can't be found.  What to do??? Thanks.

    I deleted Bonjour since I don't need it for remote printing.  Now on start-up I get the message: "Airport Base Station Agent has stopped working" and also message: "can't find APAgent.exe.:  Do I need AP Agent??  What to do??  Thanks.

    The APAgent monitors your AirPort base station and informs you if there are things like firmware updates available. This utility relies on Bonjour, but is not required for base station operation. However, Bonjour makes it easier for your PC to "find" the base station via the AirPort Utility and I would recommend that you keep it installed. If you don't want the APAgent, you can just use the Apple Updater utility (that was also installed when the AirPort Utility was installed) to remove it.

  • Airport base station unit?

    I've checked my processes with activity monitor and can not figure out why this process is active, (Airport base station unit). I do not have airport enabled in any way and I do not have an airport base unit. Activity monitor tells me this is process #308 and is using 5.22 mb of real memory. When I force to quit, it reappears in a few seconds, I never noticed this activity before. Any help would be appreciated!

    Mine takes about 3MB but 0% CPU.
    I looked in my startup items and Airport Base Station Agent is there.
    I presume that if your remove it, it will no longer show up in the Activity Monitor.
    It's probably installed as a startup item by default, either by the system or the recent update.
    If it's not in your login items list, then you have some other problem.

  • Initializing airport base station

    Hi there,
    I have an old airport extreme base station connected to my MBP via ethernet cable into the LAN port and the WAN cable plugged into my internal network that has a DHCP server delving IPs. The aiport base station is hat shapped.
    I am running 10.5.5 on my MBP.
    I am unable to find the airport base station with my airport utility. I can see that an IP address is assigned to my built-in ethernet interface so I know that connectivity runs through the base station.
    What can I do here?
    Cheers,
    Noah

  • Time Capsule / Airport Base Station Misconfiguration??

    So, I use my computer for anything but file transfer, tcp/udp connections, sharing, etc. I hired an IT service to come in and beef up my Firewall with a SonicWall. For data backup I use a TimeCapsule/Airport Base Station combo 3TB. Having the hardest time double checking the config on this one. Should have done it myself, but now am trying to fix the mistakes made by the IT group.
    . I never had packet problems, but after set up, this is what shows on net utility....
    Nonsense!
    Further investigation in netstat shows an ipv6 multicast group?!?!?!
    Where would I begin to fix this? I can't access my TimeCapsule / Router / SonicWall via pointing my browser to it's IP. Usually I can fix a bad IT config, but this one leaves me stumped as to where to begin. Any thoughts?

    IPv6 can be problematic. Is your ISP actually using IPv6 so you need to run it?
    I can't access my TimeCapsule / Router / SonicWall via pointing my browser to it's IP.
    The apple routers have no HTML setup.. and do not respond at port 80. You must setup apple routers using the airport utility. It is built into the OS of the computer.
    If you cannot open the Router or SonicWall IP then it is likely the whole network is not actually setup correctly.
    Plug a computer directly into the sonicwall and see what IP it is running.
    Then check what IP the Mac is getting.. they must both be in the same subnet.
    If not your TC is misconfigured to route instead of being in bridge mode..
    Open the airport utility and see what errors are showing in the summary page of the airport utility.
    Some simple errors you ignore.. but issues like double NAT or no DNS or no WAN connection will clearly mean the network is not configured correctly.
    You should perhaps post what issues you are getting .. screenshots are great help.
