Airport Base Station doesn't seem to be functioning properly

Hi everyone. Set up an Airport Extreme Base Station at my house recently. The Airport icon in the menu bar shows that the system is broadcasting, but when I click on the network it says there was an error joining - this happens whether I have the network password-protected or not. When you look at the front of the unit, only the right-side light is flashing ... the middle one stays lit, as it should, but the left-side one never flashes. Any idea what this might indicate, BESIDES the fact that I'm probably an idiot? I'm using two iBook G4's ...
  Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I don't know that I have an answer. It works sometimes, but still don't get a real good signal. I wish I had an answer for you.

  • My Airport base station doesn't see the cable modem

    I know I have internet upto the Wan Port. I can get online if I connect directly to my laptop, put not if I try to connect through the airport. Any ideas?

    Are you completely powering off the cable modem....pulling the power cord from the back of the device or the wall plug.....and then leaving it powered off for at least 30 minutes?
    Then, connecting the AirPort to the modem?
    If no luck, see if the modem has an accessible battery that you can pull as well for the power down session.
    Some providers take even longer to reset the connection back at the equipment at the cable company, so try powering off the modem a few hours if 30 minutes does not work.
    Finally, it may be necessary to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort to start all over again.

  • My Airport base station has a status message that says "This AirPort base station doesn't have any DNS server addresses and might have trouble connecting to the internet." What does this mean and how can I fix it?

    My internet is still working, but it's very intermittent. This happened after I updated the firmware a few days ago.

    Did you remember to completely power cycle the entire network?
    You would want to do this after any update or change to the network.
    If you did not do this yet......things are out of sequence.
    Power off everything on the network.....all devices.....power down order is not important
    Wait a few minutes
    Start the modem first and let it run a minute or two by itself
    Start the next device connected to the modem the same way
    Work your way out on the network starting each device about a minute apart
    Check the network

  • Why does my airport base station show all green lights but doesn't connect to the internet?

    I have an Airport Express Base Station that has been working beautifully up until this morning.  For no apparent reason (changes in ANYTHING), I cannot connect to the internet through it.  Here's the situation:
    The light on the airport is solid green.
    Aiport Utility shows all is well...the base station shows up, with green light, IP address, etc.
    Network Diagnostics shows "your connection to the internet seems to be working correctly."
    Connecting the modem directly to the computer via ethernet cable works fine...internet humming right along.
    Connecting the modem to the base station doesn't work, even though all green lights and "all systems go" diagnostics.
    Wireless access via iPhone and iPad not working, either, so definitely not computer-based issue.
    No changes have been made to anything.  I'm running 10.6.8 on a 2007 MacBook Pro.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Nancy

    Hi Bob,
    Thanks for responding.
    Does that IP address start with 169, or something else?
    The IP address starts with 10.0...
    Does this mean that the iPhone and iPad can connect to the wireless network....but not get to the Internet?.....or.....does this mean that the iPhone and iPad cannot connect to the wireless network at all?
    They can see and connect to the wireless network, but aren't connecting to the internet, just like my computer.  Sorry for not being clear about that.
    Can you look on the side of the AirPort Express to locate the model number?  Hard to see, you may need a magnifying glass. Starts with an "A" followed by four numbers, as in A1264, or A1084, for example.
    The model number on the Airport is A1392.
    Any insights based on this info?  Thanks for your help.

  • AirPort Utility 6.3.2 doesn't see older AirPort Base Station

    I have an old AirPort Base Station (2001 model, Dual Ethernet, "Snow", actually not "Graphite", though apparently that's the correct category here), which was previously configured with my MacBook Pro running MAC OS X 10.6.8. I've just started it up, with the DSL modem connected to it, and I'm able to connect to it (and get Internet) from my new MacBook Pro running 10.9.4 just fine. However, the latest AirPort Utility v.6.3.2 doesn't see it, says "No configured AirPort base stations have been found. AirPort Utility will continue searching." – although its window does show a green button next to the word Internet, showing (I assume) that there's an Internet connection. Does anybody know how to configure an old APBS like this from 10.9.4? AirPort Utility v.5.6.1 apparently can't be used with 10.9; is there a version that can, and will see this older AirPort Base Station?

    Does anybody know how to configure an old APBS like this from 10.9.4?
    Not in any way that Apple would support, or that we could discuss on this forum.
    Not recommending that you try a solution from the Internet using an "unknown" author to "override" security settings on your Mac, but that would be the only way to possibly get AirPort Utility 5.6.1 to run on 10.9.4.

  • Airport Express Base Station doesn't appear in AirPort Admin Utility list

    Hi,
    After applying the "Security Update 2007-003" I had the following problem and can't solve it:
    Now I can't find anymore my Airport Express base station under the list of Base stations in Airport Admin Utility and am also having problems while printing wireless, if the printer goes to sleep mode he doesn't wake up automatically anymore to do the job, every time I have to close it and open it again.
    I can't find a solution for this problem, please HELP!
    Thanks,
    Macuser

    "it was downloaded by the software update"
    No problem then. Apparently there WAS such an update, but I missed it and it's been deleted from the list of available downloads, as you can clearly see.
    There is now a new "Security Update 2007-004" for Tiger, and I think it's safe to assume that this will help correct your problems.
    If your problems still exist afterwards, you will want to reset the AirPort Express unit to factory settings and erase all current configuration profiles. Do that by holding in the reset button with a straightened paper clip while plugging the unit into a convenient electrical receptacle. Open the utility "AirPort Setup Assistant" and choose to "Set up a new AirPort Base Station" and proceed. After successful completion, unplug and relocate the AirPort Express to its usual location.

  • Airport extreme base station doesn't show up on network?

    I just set up a wireless airport extreme base station to my PowerBook G4 and hooked my printer to it.  All good.  I also set up a new iPad wifi, and that also is good.  I'm just wondering why the base-station doesn't show up in Finder Network?  Any ideas?  The Network says Neighborhood, but nothing  happens or shows up, when I open it.

    this did not solve my questions.
    Your question was.......I'm just wondering why the base-station doesn't show up in Finder Network?
    We provided answers specifying when the Extreme would and would not appear in the Finder.
    As for the "why", here you are asking about design decisions that have been made by Apple. No one on a user to user forum will be able to answer for Apple. If you want to pursue this, you will need to contact Apple directly.
    Looks like John Galt has it covered as far as the hard drive question.

  • Trying to set up a wireless guest network using Airport base station.  The first network setup was fine but the second one doesn't work.  Any suggestions?

    I purchased the new Airport base station that allows for a wireless setup of a primary network and a guest network.  The primary network installation worked great but I cannot get the guest network to work properly.  Any suggestions on how to make it work?

    The AirPort base station is designed to connect to a simple modem......not a modem/router or gateway device that is often furnished to users by Internet Service Providers.
    So, the first troubleshooting question would be to find out what the make and model of the device that you call your "modem" might be.....to see if you have the right kind of product that will allow the Guest Network to operate correctly.

  • Airport base station agent process without the device

    Hello,
    just noticed that in the startup items of my macbook account I have an item labeled "airport base station agent".
    However, I dont have an airport base station...
    Since I'm having regular troubles with my wireless, I'm just wondering if anyone can suggest an explaination why the item is there, whether it might be an issue for my macbook wireless and whether should I remove it from the startup items or not.
    Thanks.
    Paolo

    I ended up manually removing the AirPortBaseStationAgent.plist file itself from /System/Library/LaunchAgents/ and the AirPort Base Station Agent Process has stopped running in Activity Monitor ever since. I don't know how good of an idea this was to do but it solved the problem. My AirPortBaseStationAgent.plist file had this info in it:
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>EnableTransactions</key>
    <true/>
    <key>KeepAlive</key>
    <dict>
    <key>PathState</key>
    <dict>
    <key>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AirPortBaseStationAgent.launchd</key>
    <true/>
    </dict>
    </dict>
    <key>Label</key>
    <string>com.apple.AirPortBaseStationAgent</string>
    <key>ProgramArguments</key>
    <array>
    <string>/System/Library/CoreServices/AirPort Base Station Agent.app/Contents/MacOS/AirPort Base Station Agent</string>
    <string>-launchd</string>
    <string>-allowquit</string>
    </array>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    It is an older plist file dated Dec. of 2008 which got transferred to the my iMac via the Migration Assistant in Jan. of 2009. This file somehow didn't ever seem to update no matter how I configured the AirPort Utility. The file "com.apple.AirPortBaseStationAgent.launchd" that it makes reference to in /Library/Preferences/ doesn't exist on my iMac.
    Thanks,

  • Erattic connection using Graphite Airport Base station

    I have the Apple TV (new) and am connecting to it from a Graphite Airport base station (fairly old model).
    I'm streaming music to the stereo speakers (from another computer with iTunes in another room) and it works but seems slow to change tracks or shuffle, and often disconnects after about 10 mins.
    I have tried downloading a TV show and it's taking over 100mins (so far!) for a 30 min episode to download.
    In iStat my network connection says "In 43 Mb, Out 13Mb".
    Do I need the new Airport Express to get a faster connection, or is the Apple TV just crap (judging by all the complaints on this forum?)
    Thanks for any help !

    Wanted to add this info about my (Graphite) AirPort from the Apple specs:
    "Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b High Rate) standard and the Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) interoperability" but according to the Apple TV 2 specs it says Apple TV 2 needs:
    "Wi-Fi (802.11 a, b, g, or n) wireless network (wireless video streaming requires 802.11a, g or n) or 10/100BASE-T Ethernet network" so it looks like my Airport provides 802.11b but video streaming requires 802.11a (g or n) which my Airport doesn't provide......?
    Can anyone confirm if this will give me faster streaming of video?
    Thanks again for any help!

  • This AirPort base station was unable to extend the wireless network.

    I have an AirPort Extreme in the lounge connected to BT infinity.
    I also have an airport express in the kitchen connected to a stereo system.
    I have had this set up for around 12 months.
    The airport express will not extend the wireless network.
    I reset it, restart, factory reset etc and it will work fine for around 3 days, then I get the same error message saying
    This AirPort base station was unable to extend the wireless network. Make sure the wireless network you’re trying to extend was set up and is working correctly, that you entered a matching wireless network password into this device, and that this device is in range of the wireless network.
    The express is situated easily within range of the extreme. And the airplay between those two, my iMac and two apple tv's works pretty much as it should.
    Can someone please shed some light on this?
    Maybe I have it in a wrong setting or summut....

    I am also experiencing a recent failure in my Airport devices no longer extending my wireless network.
    My Aiport Express and second Airport Extreme were extending my wireless network for more than a year
    The only change that has taken place lately is that the firmware for both devices was upgraded to 7.6.4, however the upgrade was only in response to trying to resolve this problem.  Needless to say, the firmware upgrade did not resolve anything.
    If I didn't know better, I'd have thought I wrote the above.
    I have a TC from a few years ago (last one before the tower, I think), plus the older AEBS that it replaced extending the network, plus a 1-year-old Express also extending. I had upgraded them all to 7.6.3/4 when it came out, but reverted them all to 7.6.1 when everything went crapways (others having the same issues of the LAN regularly croaking), and didn't bother upgrading again since.
    Today I just tried 7.6.4 on all of them, and it seemed OK at first with green lights all around in Airport Utility.  Then I made one change, which was to enable 5Ghz on the main AEBS/TC only (the express doesn't need it, and the older AEBS can't do it).
    The latter two started flasing amber and giving the "unable to extend wireless network" error message.
    So I'm wondering if you are similarly using 5Ghz?

  • Airport Base Station Agent in Windows 7 Hangs when mouting Time Capsule

    Hey all, can't figure this one out.
    The airport base station agent launches at start up and asks if I'd like to ignore or connect with password. When I choose connect with password the agent hangs, and either goes unresponsive or puts up a dialogue box saying "Could not connect to the disk. Make sure NetBios is enabled and try again (53)." Ususally it just goes unresponsive and I have to close it out. I did briefly have access for a coupple days mapped as "Z" and did a windows back up to it and saw it in "my computer" as drive "Z"
    The airport utility itself sees and connects with the time capsule no problem to edit it's settings and so forth. The agent it seems which tries to mount the disk and map the drive with a letter seems to be failing or being blocked somehow. Antivurus software has been removed, the windows firewall ports are open both public and private for the agent AND the utility. NetBios is currently set back to "default" as changing it to "enabled" had no effect.
    Thanks for any help YO!

    After setting this thing up as a disk only basically by going through the set up process, at the end, there is a dialogue box that says the time doesn't have a valid IP address. In the input field "router address", I entered 10.0.1.1 and updated settings. The status light stopped flashing amber and turned green and now windows 7 explorer can see it and access it with no problems.

  • Airport base station isn't accepting some connections...

    I have an 802.11n "fast ethernet" model.
    It's set up to use WPA2, and doesn't advertise its SSID.
    For fun, I also have a couple of other base stations (Both the UFO Extreme and a couple of expresses - they're usually unplugged/inert).
    It had been working great...
    Then, a couple of weeks ago, I started noticing some odd behavior:
    It used to be that if I disconnected my MBP from it (by sleeping it, etc), when I opened the lid, my MPB would simply re-connect automatically.
    I don't recall making any configuration changes to my machines, network, or base station.
    I now have to manually enter both the SSID and the WPA2 password every time I wake up my mac. (In spite of the fact that the keychain is storing the value, and I've verified this with keychain access).
    If I have one of my 'other' base stations active (with its own config, of course - a different SSID & password, but otherwise configured with a hidden SSID & WPA2), my mac would connect to the 'other' base station instead of my 802.11n base station. (The preferred network order for the 'other' station is dead last, and for the 802.11n is first).
    And other devices that connect to the 802.11n network (ie. iPod touch, for example) are also having issues - it's only on the 2nd attempt that I'm getting a connection.
    The fact that the problem is only happening when I connect to the 802.11n base station has me thinking there might be something wrong with my base station config - though I have no idea what.
    I have no problem with auto-connecting to an 802.22b/g "UFO" base station or an AirPort Express using a hidden SSID & WPA2.
    Does anybody have a clue what is wrong?

    When I reconnect, I do get the same IP address as before. This is because the airport isn't distributing IP addresses. I've got a Linux box running DHCP to handle ip address assignment. Since I have full control of the DHCP config on the linux box, I can set my own lease times, etc.
    Your problem seems to be that you can connect to the airport, but aren't getting an IP address. I wish I could help you with that one, unfortunately I've never really used an AirPort outside of the wireless bridge mode - my Linux box does the Firewall, NAT, DHCP, DNS, etc.
    Part of the reason is I'm not too fond of the AirPort base station's presence on the net - instead of simply dropping unsolicited packets, the AirPort will send a message that it is refusing the connection. In other words, AirPort isn't invisible on the internet, making it a bigger target for crackers & script kiddies.
