Airport , Belkin gaming adapter and a network laser printer

I have an airport network extreme base station and express using WDS to extend range around home. That works fine.
I have just got a Belkin gaming adapter, a wireless box with ethernet port to plug in non-wireless devices.
My problem is this; I can "see" my Oki laser printer plugged into Belkin box as a Bonjour printer but when I print to it the jobs don't print as it comes up off line.
I have used this printer fine with Macs on another wired network, so I am perplexed. Also I can plug in USB direct and print fine.
Any thoughts anyone.
Thanks

My AX is the newer one. I have had it setup to "Participate in a WDS network" for a long time, along with "allow wireless clients" (in the WDS tab). Under the Internet section, the Internet Connection setting for Connection Sharing has been "Off (Bridge Mode)". The AX has 7.5.2. If I change it to "join....." will this be tied to the printer?
The "Participate in a WDS network" option would configure the AX to extend another AirPort or Time Capsule in a static WDS. This type of network can only operate in the 802.11g radio mode and has severe bandwidth limitations.
Changng the AX to "Join a wireless network" is the default for sharing a printer and/or streaming iTunes. However, with the 802.11n version, this option is used along with the Enable Ethernet clients to configure the AX as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AX will join the Extreme's wireless network and have its Ethernet port enabled for the printer.

Not printing text only on Canon--grahics print ok.  Not printer problem.  Prints ok on a Brother and another network Apple prints ok on Canon.  Believe a computer setting was inadvertently reset.  What setting and how do I reset?

Without your printer model numbers, readers can only give you vague general directions.
    System Preferences > Print&Fax > ...
... shows a list of all set-up printers.
If you are having serious problems, it makes sense to "Reset the Printing System" (which also removes all printer set-ups) and add back each printer. It only takes a few minutes.

  • I just purchased a 3tb Time Capsule and having trouble getting my Brother networked laser printer to work.

    Hello,
I tried several different routers, but could never get my new Seagate 4tb external hardrive to connect to use with Time Machine. I finally gave up and purchased a new Time Capsule today. It's a work of art, and working well as a router and harddrive. That said, I cannot get my Brother Laser Printer (HL-5370DW) to print.
It's a networked printer and my computer finds it, but it will not print anything.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to get it working?

Mavericks often needs new drivers.. did you check the brother website for new drivers for 10.9.
Delete all the previous references to this printer.. and any other printer if they no exist.
Try and load again the new printer according to the Mavericks instructions.. this is actually nothing to do with the TC.. since the printer is network and using wireless or ethernet (not USB!!). Then the TC it is simply another client.

  • Wireless and Wired Network/Bonjour Printer Settings.

I am setting up a network for a preschool that has six Macs (MacBook, iMac Intel, Mac Mini Intel, eMac G4, iMac G5) on a network spread out around the school. Some teachers bring in their own laptops, but no frequently and most are Macs.
The network is currently arranged like this:
    Office:
Bellsouth DSL Router with one RJ-45 ethernet wire running to the WAN port on an Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11g).
One RJ-45 ethernet wire runs from the Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11g) LAN port out of the office to a network switch in the Library.
All three Macs in the Office are currently connected wirelessly with Airport cards.
    Library/Lounge:
One network switch with an RJ-45 ethernet wire from the Office running into it and two RJ-45 ethernet wires running out of it to:
One eMac connected via ethernet from the switch in the library.
One iMac G5 connected via ethernet from the switch to the Teacher's Lounge.
I am currently sharing one laser printer via Bonjour that is plugged directly into the Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11g) via USB in the office.
There is currently one inkjet in the Teacher's Lounge plugged directly into the iMac G5 and is being shared from that iMac.
    Here is my question:
I would like to hardwire the iMac Intel and Mac Mini (office Macs) directly to the network to improve file transfer speed between the Accountant's Mini and the Office Manager's iMac Intel. I have two options, I could run a wire to a network switch from the Lan port from the Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11g) and then connect the two Office Macs and the two Library/Lounge Macs directly from there and I assume that all thusly connected Macs would have Bonjour access to the laser printer. However, I noticed a setting in the (round topped) Airport Extreme's setup utility that said something about "do you want to connect to Bonjour with a wired (whatever" I can't remember the wording exactly, but does a setting like this one need to be checked to share that printer both across the wireless network AND the wired computers as well?
I want to be able to share the laser across the network and the inkjet that is being shared from the G5 across the network and a future Office inkjet that, I assume, I will have to plug into one of the Office Macs to share. I can't put a USB hub on the AAEX to share via Bonjour, so my options seem to be limited. Any suggestions or workarounds for doing this better?
Do the new "N" Airports allow printers to be daisy-chained on a USB hub and shared via Bonjour?
BTW, I prefer Bonjour from the AAEX because the printer's available even when all other Macs are off or sleeping.

  • Is Airport Express ethernet port suitable for a laser printer

I saw there are three ports out from the device, one is an ethernet port and I wonder if I can use that port to connect a laser printer with a network card built-in. This is because I have two printers one is a USB and the other is parallel/neetworkk one and would like to connect both to the Airport for remote use purposes.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Dante

Unfortunately, the AirPort Express Setup Guide is not very clear about the uses of the Ethernet port.
There is a special feature on the AirPort Express called ProxySTA that will allow the Ethernet port to be enabled when the Express "joins" a wireless network. This feature must be enabled using the Manual Setup option when the Express is configured using the AirPort Utility application.
The setting is found when you click the Wireless tab (just below the icons). Enter a check mark next to "Allow Ethernet Clients" and this will activate the Ethernet port, which will function as a remote LAN port.

I am having trouble installing and printing my Dell laser 1700 network printer.  I keep doing the install and it won't print.  I previously had it installed but because I had to get a new router the IP address changed and i no longer can print with the old or load a new printer.  Please help me.

  • Can anyone suggest a linux compatible network laser printer/scanner?

I'm in the process of looking for a laser printer/scanner combo that I can plug into my router to print over the network.  I've heard good things about Brother, but I just want to be sure before I put down the cash for it.  Any suggestions?  All I'd be using it for is scanning some album covers/books and printing text documents.  The scanner resolution doesn't need to be too high, but enough where pixelation isn't too obvious.  It's important that I can network it with an ethernet cable since I'll be sharing it with my girlfriend.
    Thanks!
Disclaimer:  I haven't owned a printer since 2000 so I don't know shit about these things.

    +1
Our (100% linux) office is equipped with a Brother MFC-8880DN all-in-one, and the previous model (8860DN) served us for the three years before this one. Our next All-in-one will be another Brother-machine.
My wife's (100% linux) office has two B/W USB laser printers and one color network DFC (all-in-one without fax). They are also very satisfied with the printing possibilities.
The *only* thing I am not completely satisfied with is the printing of non-black fonts.

  • Airport Express Base Station and HP Laserjet 1020 printer connected

    Dear all,
I have a Laptop (PC) Sony Vaio PCG-Z1XSP and an Airport Express Base Station which work perfectly together (internet access and I-tunes). I recently bought a printer HP Laserjet 1020 and connected it to the Airport Express USB soket. I managed to make it work and print a couple of times, but as soon as I turn off the printer or the computer or Airport Express, the next time I want to print, it doesn't work anymore.
The Airport Admin Utility recognises the printer (I can see it listed). I have updated the Airport Express software to the Firmware version 6.3 as well as downloaded the latest driver available on HP's website for my printer. I've also substituted the USB cable. Can anybody help me here? Thank you very much and best regards.

    Hallo everybody,
Thanks for all the answers. I have contacted HP's chat online and gone through the problem with 3 different technicians. I've tried a lot myself too. The issue was partially solved by restarting the printer spooler, i.e. stop, then start and then restart it.
However after I was so happy that the printer worked, I turn off everything. When I turn on again, it was not working anymore. Then I tried to see by exclusion what the problem is, I had to restart the Hardwar I don't know how many times.
    Conclusion:
    1. The USB cable must be plugged into the airport express before turning on anything.
    2. Turn on the printer first.
    3. Turn on the airport express and the computer.
    4. If you try to print it doesn't work, even if you reset the airport express through the airport express utility software. The printer is recognized and appears in it though.
    5. Disconnect the USB cable from the airport express and connect it to the PC directly.
    6. Print a document.
    7. Disconnect the cable and reconnect it to the airport express.
    8. Now you should be able to print wireless. You may need to reset the airport expresst with the utility softwar, but I managed to print without having to do it.
    9. The pörinter works even if you turn off and on again the computer, or you suspend the windows session and restart it, or if you put it in standby and restart it.
    10. The printer works even if you turn off the airport express and the computer, or the airport express alone and restart them/it.
    11. The printer doens't work anymore if you turn it off and onn again. In such a case you have to plug in/out as discribeb above.
Solution: Leave the printer always on, or make the plug in/out every morning when you start the computer and print one page direclty before being able to print wireless.
Does anybody have a solution to this problem? I mean it prints, but it is annoying to plug in/out every day, no?
HP's technician says that it is not a recommanded solution the HP Laserjet 1020 with the airport express, since the printer works on a host based server basis... I mean it is easy to say that, but one expects to buy a printer that works always and not to have to plug in/out everyday, restart spooler and so on.
Can anybody comment or suggest anything I can do to avoid this? Thank you and I hope this helps others too.

  • Trouble printing with Leopard and Samsung USB laser printer

I just purchased a Samsung SCX-4200 laser printer/scanner/copier. After installing 10.5-compatible drivers from the Samsung website, I'm unable to get the printer to work. Print+Fax recognizes the printer fine and the proper driver appears in the pulldown menu so all seems good there. But every time I go to print a document (I've tried numerous apps), the job begins spooling to about 6%-8% (depending on document tried) and then I get a message in the queue window that says 'Waiting for USB printer to respond.' and the job just hangs there. The job list shows the document as printing and the Print+Fax window shows the printer as in use, but no matter what I try, this thing just won't print. I've tried restarting the computer, rebooting the printer, an older version of the drivers that came with the printer (says OS 10.3-10.4 only) and myriad other tricks, but no dice.
    Anyone have any advice? Thanks!

Well to follow up I finally heard back from Epson support...this was the response (note that it says nothing that I did not tell them already).
Thank you for taking the time to contact Epson. It is my pleasure to
respond to your inquiry. Color management is an art, make sure that only
the application or the driver is handling the management. Turn off the
management in the driver if you are allowing Photoshop or other software to
handle the color management. Also make sure when you are allowing
Photoshop to handle the color that you select the proper printer profile.
It's very hard to help with color management via email, you may want to
check some of the on-line color management websites on google.

Totally useless as I explained in detail that I had already done all of this and was very familiar with color management and the process of using it. And that it was not until the latest OS-X and Epson's driver that the problems started.

  • Airport Extreme multicast rate and closed network

    New to Airport Extreme.
Is the multicast rate the same as the TX rate on other routers? I chose 11Mbps during the setup and my Macbook was very slow. I moved it back to 2 Mbps and it sped up. Distance from macbook to airport approx. 24 inches.
Other question/ statement. I assume that the closed network portion of the setup is the same as turning off the SSID of other routers. Do I assume correctly?

goldengti, Welcome to the discussion area!
Is the multicast rate the same as the TX rate on other routers?
Sorry I don't know about other routers. The multicast rate defines the minimum data rate the base station will use and maintain the wireless connection. If you set it to 11 Mbps, the wireless connection will be broken if that data rate can't be maintained.
Other question/ statement. I assume that the closed network portion of the setup is the same as turning off the SSID of other routers. Do I assume correctly?
Yes the same useless option. Regardless of how you set this option on any router, the SSID is still broadcast between any connected clients and the base station. Therefore it only takes a few seconds to discover the SSID.

  • Airport doesn't connect and corrupts network.

    Hello,
This problem first started happening about 2 months ago. When I turn my macbook on and try to connect to my network, it connects but doesn't have an internet connection. After that it will corrupt the wireless and everything connected to the network is disconnected. This is fixed by resetting the router.
Before it was giving me an error that there was an IP conflict with another computer. So i manually changed it, but the problem persists.
    Thank you,
    Tom

Post a complete description of your system and we may be able to help.
What sort of internet connection is it, DSL modem make model other, what sort of wireless system, AirPort Base Station model, how are your network components connected etc.

I wanna get a new airport express or time capsule, I'm leanin towards the time capsule but in wanna know If I plug my USB printer into it if it becomes an AirPlay printer so I can print from my iPad

Nope.  It's got to be a real AirPrint printer.
However, you may be able to use an app and print the way you described.  Check out printopia.

  • IMac won't connect to network laser printer

    Hi,
I've recently purchased a new 27" iMac 3.4 GHz with 16 GB RAM running OS 10.6.8. Everything has been running smoothly until this morning when I accidently switched off my HP LaserJet 4000n. After I turned it back on, I found that I could no longer print from the iMac to the Lasterjet any more. So, (stupidly) I thought I'd remove to printer from the Fax / Printer selection in System preferences and simply click + to add new printer and reinstrall the HP LaserJet 4000n. But here's the problem, my new iMac won't let me add a new printer because it can't find the HP LaserJet. I have tried everything. I even got a message saying the Appletalk was not turned on - interesting as 10.6.8 doesn't have appletalk any more. I did however find that Appletalk had been switched off on the G5, so I clicked it back on, but i still couldn't locate the HP LaserJet on the iMac. I can get the iMac to print if I connect to the HP LaserJet 4000n as a shaed prionter by turning on the G5 and using the Bonjour shared prointer facility, but I got the imac so I could sell the G5. I don't want to have to keep turning on another computer just to print off a recipe for chicken soup.
I spent about 6 hours on the phone to Apple support today with an elevated support person, but even they gave up in the end after we had tried everything. I even tried to copy the system file to another HD to see if I booted up just form the system if it would connect to the printer in the absence of all applications, but couldn't as i kept getting an error type 8003 message about 45 seconds into the copy process. As you may imagine I am seriously frustrated and not a little pee'd off.
Any clues as to what's happening, and also, how come the Apple support guy didn't ask me if i had backed everything up on Time Machine - which I do. Odd.
It's probably too late fore that option now anyway as he got me to renew the DHCP leases - so my router will have different numbers now.

    I'm using the same printer with my late 2010 iMac (3.2GHz i3, 27") running OS X 10.6.7.
Took me a long while to get it to work, because I'd had it set up to work with my G4 running OS 9 via AppleTalk, and the iMac needs to connect via IP.
The setup that finally worked for me -
In the Print/Fax control pane in System Preferences, click the add button. In the Add Printer window, click the IP item in the header bar. In the new screen -
Protocol - set to "HP JetDirect - Socket"
Address: enter the IP address of the printer. If you don't already have that, you need to get it from the printer itself. To do that, use the "Menu" and "Item" buttons on the printer to step through the various offerings until you get to the Configuration page - select to print that page. The printer's IP address will be included on that page.
The IP address was not included on that page when I first printed the page. I think this was because it had originally been set up to use AppleTalk. The solution was to do a Cold Reset of the printer. To do that, turn the printer off. Hold the Go button down and turn it back on. Release the Go button when you see resetting activity in the message screen on the printer. Once I did that, the next time I printed the Configuration page the IP address was included.
Leave the rest of the Add Printer screen blank.
That should take care of it.
