Airport - Can't even detect home network

Hi
I have MBP and was initially having the same problems with connections getting dropped every 2 mins. However, this problem happens only at my home where I have a Linksys Wireless-N home router. I run this only on 802.11g mode though because other laptops at home are older and don't support N.
The problem of dropping connections never came in my office. I can still connect and work seamless there though.
Suddenly, now my MBP has stopped even detecting my wireless at home. Other laptops at home (which are Dell and Lenovo running windows XP and Vista) can detect and connect to the home wireless without any trouble.
Even iStumbler doesn't show the wireless network at home.
What should I do?

Also, when I try to manually enter the details and connect, it gives connection timed out as the first error which on trying to reconnect says connection failed.
Does there exist some log file which can be consulted and the error be identified better ?

  • Can I create a home network withous dsl connection with airport express

can I create a home network without dsl connection with airport express?
So it means I can't connect to my HP Airprint/Wireless printer without exretnal connection through ISP?? Just need to print from my Mac and iphone. I have Vodafone Prepaid connection, which is directly connected to my Mac. Does that make an internal network possible?

You have to set up the Air Port with an internet connection to set up a network. Do you have a modem? If yes you can set up the network.

  • Can't find my home network

    Greetings,
I have tried searching this forum and the Apple support pages, and can't find a solution. My new iPod Touch can't find my home network. I have an AirPort Extreme base station and am using WPA/WPA2 Personal security. My MacBook Pro has no problem finding my network, and works flawlessly. My iPod Touch, on the other hand, can not. Even though my home network is not a closed network, I still tried entering the network name and password manually, and it still doesn't see it. I tried turning security off completely in my Base Station>AirPort>Wireless settings, and that didn't help, either. My iPod Touch does see one or two other networks in my neighborhood, but not mine.
For the record, I am sitting less than two feet away from my AirPort Extreme base station, so I'm definitely within range, my iPod Touch can see other networks, so it would seem that it's antenna is not at fault, and my MacBook Pro sees and connects to my network without any problems, so it would seem my AirPort Extreme is set up properly. So what am I doing wrong?
    Any thoughts?

Thanks Scott, that did it. Within range of everything is a wireless security camera that was creating an interference issue with my MacBook Pro and AirPort Extreme, and the only solution, other than disabling the camera, was to switch from 2.4 GHz to 5.0 GHz under Base Station>AirPort>Wireless>Radio Mode, which eliminated b/g compatible. At the time, that was fine because my MacBook Pro was n compatible. I see now that my iPod Touch is not. I tried switching back to b/g compatible, and the iPod Touch found my network right away, but the MacBook Pro lost it.
    Can't win for losing.
The security camera has now been disabled, and both the iPod Touch and the MacBook Pro can access my network. I just won't be able to film the guy who tries to steal them.

  • Airport wont connect on my home network when its password protected but..

Airport wont connect to my home network when its password protected. It will connect to my network if i go into my linksys router and set the network to "not password protected". If i put on the security and choose a pass phrase it always says connection failed when i try to connect to the network. anyone got any suggestions on what to try ?
ps and yes i am putting in the password right

    Hi Nickerjones
When you enter your password for the Linksys router, is it generating a separate code phrase? By this, I mean if you enter "password", the Linksys converts this to a code that might look something like "ju457re76en7pq" for example. The code is generated based on an algorithm that Linksys uses for their products and should be visible in the set up page. Sorry, I haven't used Linksys for several years so I can't remember all the details.
Other manufacturers use different algorithms for their products, so if you entered "password" on an Apple product, it would likely convert the phrase to a different code, which the Linksys would not recognize. If you can locate the actual code that the Linksys generates when you enter your password and use that same exact code when you enter the password for your wireless on Airport, you may have your problem solved.

  • Hello my iphone 3g can not connect to home network via wifi

Hello to all, with my iphone 3g can not connect to home network via wifi. This only happens if I apply protection to the network. Unprotected my Iphone connects fine. Obviously the password to write error-free. I can not figure out what depends on this factor, however, another iphone connects fine. Help me please.

I have a similar, but slightly different problem. My iphone 4 recgonizes my home wifi and shows it under Settings, but will not access it, no signal shown, just 3G.  It will access other wifi signals.  My wife's iphone works fine, as does an ipad and macbook.  This is new for my iphone, about 2-3 days.
Help!  I reset network settings and rebooted the router (Apple), no avail

  • Iphone osi 8.0 upgraded. Now I can't find my home network. Help!

Just upgraded my iPhone to psi 8.0. Am able to find and stay connected to public wifi. Originally was able to find my home wifi. Now I'm not connected nor can I find my home network. I have tried reset via the phone, reboot of phone and reboot of router.

Thanks 11142007. I had actually tried what you suggested. But, it was only after I rebooted the router a second time that I was able to connect and, hopefully, stay connected. The key on the second router reboot was waiting at least 15 seconds to power it back up. I didn't do that the first time.

  • Can I connect use 2 airport extremes in an in home network, each at a different ethernet access point?

Can I use 2 airport extremes in the same in home network, each at a different ethernet drop point?

Hi - without knowing anything else about the network and assuming that you mean that they are connected via ethernet to the main router, the answer is yes - they would be configured in bridge mode to "Create a Wireless Network" (because they are hardwired) with the same name and password as the home network.

  • Airport client ceased to detect available networks

    Hello all,
I am switching this topic to this forum to see if you all can help. I have searched high and low in the support and community archives and cannot find anything. I am suspecting a Mini configuration issue, but I reached the extent of my knowledge a long time ago…
    Here is what I have:
    Environment
Home network with Airport Extreme as base – up to date firmware
Computers in the network: Mac Book, Mac Mini and an HP Laptop
Both Mac Book and Mac Mini are running Mac OS X 1.5.8
Firmwares on both up to date (wireless firmware 1.4.16.2) as well as on the Base
Both are mid 2006 models, The Base is one year old
    Symptoms:
Without any change I can remember, the Mini ceased to detect networks (any networks)
All other computers pick up to 11 computers in the area after scanning
I am not able to connect to the home network even if I manually enter the information: if I try to join add a network from scratch and later click on “other” for scanning, the home network will show but if I try to join, it will time out
All Airport settings are identical in both Mini and Book, yet the Book detects and connects with no issue
I am able to set a peer to peer network using the Mini and the Book scans it, detects it and successfully joins – I cannot do the reverse
The network WIFI card displays in the Profiler as active and correct in the systems information entry
And just to reemphasize, the Mini does not detect ANY networks and all the other computers can see up to 11, as well as join the Airport Base without issues
*Troubleshooting so far with the help of Tony Rocco:*
Tried to get rid of all preferred networks and all entries in the key-chain associated with them, and tried again from scratch – No Results
Moved the “SystemConfiguration” folder to the desktop - And restarted the Mini - Keyed in a new Computer Name in the Computer Name field in the Sharing Preferences Pane – No results
Changed Channels on the base – no results

Clearly the problem is only with the Mini. Let's figure out whether it's software or hardware.
Start up from your Leopard install disk. Instead of performing an installation, open Network Utility. (You can access it from the Utilities menu.) Try to connect to your network by selecting it in the AirPort menu.
If no networks appear in the AirPort menu, this is a hardware issue.

  • Macbook: I can't see my home network....

I am using a Macbook as detailed in my profile. Yesterday, upon getting home from work I booted up my Macbook to find out I couldn't get on the net.
Upon further investigation I found that the Macbook could not see my home network, despite me using it the previous evening. It can see all the other local networks that it usually can, as well as the mobile modem that I am using to type this now.
All other computers on the network can see it, and looking on the network configuration screen it can see my Macbook. But I can't see it
The router is a Belkin one

Tried that yesterday - still no joy

  • My airport can't find my wifi network.

I have a Gateway 2wire that I came with AT&T Uverse.  It has been problematic at times, but now my iMac can't find the wifi network at all.  It doesn't make sense to me. Sometimes it works great, sometimes it keep dropping off.  Me and my wife both have iPhones, my iPhone found the network no problem, hers could not, so I entered it manually and that worked.  Then my iMac was working great on it, then all of a sudden, for no apparent reason, it stopped working and now it can't find the wifi network.  I can't even enter it manually.  The iPhones see it and work fine, my Wii see's it and works fine.  But my new blu-ray can't see it either. So why are some of my devices working fine with it, and others can't even find it.  I have worked with AT&T a few time and they keep saying it's not the 2wire.  I don't believe them, I have read to many reports of similar problems with the 2wire with AT&T.  Is there anything I can do to solve this.  I keep thinking I wan't to get an Airport Extreme and connect it to the 2wire, I have read that it is possible and will work, but I wan't to know why this router is visible to some devices and not others. Does anyone understand this.

I'm not sure what you mean. You can't find the express to set it up.. or you can't find the network created by the express?

  • IMac can see PC on home network but PC can not

I am trying to move files from PC to new iMac on my home network. The iMac can see the other machine but the PC keeps looking for the iMac. Is there a setting on the PC other than the firewall and updates that needs to be turned off?

    HI,
Try the information in the Airport Troubleshooting Guide and see if you can resolve the problem that way.
If nothing there helps click here for the Airport Extreme Base Station Setup Guide.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/AirPort_Extreme_Base_Station_Setup_Guidev4.2.pdf
Type Command + F on your keyboard. Then type in: Reset top right side of your Safari window just under your Bookmarks Bar then press return on your Keyboard.
Follow the instructions to reset your Airport base station.

  • How can I set a home network behind a wireless linksys router

The XP wizard for 'setup a home or small office network' doesn't seem to work when I'm behind the router (it used to work before I had a router - back then I worked with a product called 'access point' which was connected to a second network card on my desktop).
My layout is normal, I think. Here are the links:
    modem -- ADSL
    modem -- router
    desktop -- router
    laptop -- router (through wireless).
I have internet on both computers. The only thing I cannot do is make one computer find the other.
Anyone knows what should I do ?
    Thanks,
    Ofer

Make sure both computers have File and Printer Sharing enabled. Also make sure both computers have the same workgroup name. Temporarily disable any software firewalls, such as Norton or McAfee, and see if the computers can see each other.

  • Can't connect to Home Network and Printer

    hi,
I just bought my first mac, its a macbook with leopard, and am having quite a bit of trouble connecting it to our home network. I'm not much of a computer whiz, so i have no idea what to do. Our network doesn't have any security, but does need a password, and each time i try to connect it after putting in my name and password it says "The Volume cannot be Mounted" and then comes up with an error message saying "an unexpected error occurred". And because i cannot connect to the network i cannot connect to our printers and need them desperately, i start uni in a week!
    what can i do?
    thanks
    dan
if more details are needed let me know...

What version of Leopard are you using? I asked because Apple just released 10.5.2.
Plus if you are adding a lone Mac to a windows network then read the user reports at MacWindows.com (you should have the site bookmark if you are going to mix Macs into PC networks).

  • Wifi can't connect to home network but can to school network and via ethernet

My MBP cannot connect to any of my home networks (we have three, same ISP but not the same security) but it can connect to my unsecured school network and to my home network via ethernet cable. Other devices can connect to the network, including my iPhone, my fathers machines... etc.
I spent an hour on the phone with apple care and tried a large variety of things...
Changing my DNS settings to add 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
deleting the .plist settings in my system config folder
    running diagnostics 500 times
    restarting
    reinstalling mt.lion (without wipe)
    restarting the router
    and a lot more.
Basically, it says I have full internet access and diagnostics tells me there is nothing wrong. Green light and everything but not a single program can connect to the internet while I can connect to home based servers.
I cannot ping anything and I cannot access any websites using either their IP or their domain name.
Needless to say, this has been getting quite frusterating and I'm running out of ideas.

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.
Test. After testing, reboot as usual and post the results.
