Airport card and the 3 wires

Hi there: I have just installed the airport card in my Mac Pro dual 4 core. I saw that there are 3 wires marked 1, 2 and 3.
As the cards can accept only 2 of them which ones have I to connect? And in which order (Top/bottom) Thanks a lot in advance for your help!!!!!!!!
Greetings
Fabrizio

Fabrizio,

As far as I know installing the AirPort card is not supposed to be done by customers themselves (and so you may void warranty when breaking anything - although installing the card is pretty easy).
The documentation I saw for the AirPort Exteme card said: "connect antenna wires #1 and #3 (either way is good) - #2 not used". This is what I did and it seems to work pretty well.

Good luck,

  • Macbook airport card and antenna

i have 2 macbook c2d,one has the 2 antenna airport card and the wifi is very slow, the other with 3 i presume is n version, but i had to swap the screens over, now the mabook i use has a 3 antenna card but only 2 antenna from the monitor, would i be better of using the 3 antenna version but ust plugging 2 in and which 2?

I can't help with tracking down the "T" shaped antenna that plugs into the back of the G5, or an equivalent, but I can tell you that the wire that connects to the Airport card in my G5 disappears around the back of the motherboard.
It may have a metal ring on the other end but I can't see it.
I'm assuming you didn't buy the G5 new, because you are missing of the "T" shaped antenna which is supplied with the computer, so I'm guessing whoever had the G5 before you pulled the airport card out before disconnecting the antenna cable and ripped it from its mounting.
My guess is the metal ring is used to attach it somehow.

  • Airport card and memory

hi im looking into puttin an airport card in to my mac g4 the lamp desktop and was wondering if i need extra memory and what osx it would run on
    hope someone ca

    Hello Aldric, welcome to discussions.
It's quite suspicious that your Airport card and one of your memory modules have suddenly "disappeared" at the same time.
This could certainly indicate a hardware issue, but I won't speculate as to what caused it. Sure, a power surge could do this... have you had one recently?
I would try taking the memory module, and the airport card out of your system, and then re-install them.
If your situation does not improve, then you should probably take your machine to an authorized Apple service center.

  • Airport Card on the blink

Hi - I have three 14" ibooks on the same airmac network. One of them, an iBook 900mhz, keeps dropping the airmac connection due to: 'unable to find airport card' error. If the computer is then turned off for sometime then it is then able to reconnect to the network, say for about 30 minutes before the connection is again dropped, and so on. The ibook is fitted with 2 extra fans for cooling and the room is about 26C. This has occurred with OS 10.3.9 and also 10.4.2. The airport card is fixed perfectly.
    Any comments of ideas welcome.
I thought the airport card may be no longer any good? Also, I tried to see the other two posts on where to by aircards of Mac (not extreme) but the 3 companies listed are for domestic US only - I need international; if anyone knows a supplier who will ship overseas that into. would be helpful.
    Thanks
    Steven, in Japan

The airport card in the iBook is still switching off without warning after some 30~40 minutes of use. If the computer is turned off for say 30 minutes then the airport card joins the net work without any problems. Two other similar iBooks on the same network have no issues.
At first I thought the problems was due to overheating in that particular iBook so I have now installed a two external cooling fan system. WHile the computer is running much cooler the Airport card is still switching off without warning intermittently.
Is there any way to test this Airport card - or does it need replacing. I have found one source of replacement cards, but I am unsure this situation will improve if the airport card is changed.

  • Broken airport card and i can't dish out £220 to fix it

Hi, my airport card has just broken, the range has been halved so at the moment i have to hug my wireless box to get signal. As the title says i cant afford the repair, its an old computer out of warrenty and im a student without surplus cash. I was wondering does anyone know any cheaper ways off fixing this? wireless USB sticks that are compatible with older macbooks?
    Many thanks

The Asus WL-167g wireless USB adapter works with my old iBook as well as my new MacBook. I tried it just to be sure, although of course I use the Airport card on the MacBook. If you use it, remember to turn off Airport.
The Asus WL-167g costs $17 at New Egg. You can download the Mac driver here:

  • Broken airport card and hard drive on MacBook Pro and can't go to recovery with LAN.

    Hi.
My MacBook Pro 13" (early-2011)'s hard drive has broken, and I bought a Kingston 120GB SSDNow instead.
Earlier, the airport card and cable has been broken too.
Are there other ways I can use LAN to recover my mac? It wants me to use wifi, but the airport card is broken...
If so, why does it only want to use Wifi instead of LAN?
LAN is like the extra parachute just in case, or the extra octopus regulator in scuba diving.

Is your model on the list? Did you ever upgrade its firmware? If not, then all you can do is start by booting from your Snow Leopard DVD and installing Snow Leopard on your SSD. Be sure to first partition and format the SSD for use with OS X. Once you install Snow Leopard you can download and install the firmware update for future needs.

  • Bridge between airport card and ethernet port

My son wants to access the internet through the ethernet port to connect his xbox 360. My airport extreme base station is upstairs and my powermac g5 is in the basement and connects to the internet through the airport network (airport extreme card to base station). One of his friends says he can configure a bridge between his wireless card and his ethernet port on his windows computer and was trying to do it on my mac. Can a bridge be configured between the airport extreme card and the ethernet port on the g5 which will allow an ethernet device to connect to the internet? Any advice will greatly appreciated. Thank you.
    Larry

I have used an external ethernet bridge in the past. What I am wondering is: How can the airport card be configured to create a bridge to the ethernet port on the computer, so the game console could be connected to the back of the g5 with an ethernet cable and then connected to the tv with a/v cables. Do I have to use some external device to provide an internet connection to the game console or is there some way to share the connection from the airport card to the ethernet port?

  • There is a way to access the Airport express by the wire?

I am interested to connect to the airport express by the wire to configure it. there is any option to do that? I am not going to have access by Wifi as I am far from the Airport and my computer has Linux.
    Thank you.

Certainly. Physically connect an Ethernet drop-cable between the Ethernet port on the AX and your computer's Ethernet port. If your computer is wireless capable, be sure to temporarily disable its wireless adapter so that all data traffic will go through its Ethernet port.
With the AX connected, start the AirPort Utility. The AX should appear in the left side of the utility. If it does not, using the AirPort Utility's menu bar, first select File, then Configure Other ...
Enter 10.0.1.1 for the Address window and and public in the Password window, and then, click on OK.

  • Airport Card and Pismo

    Hello!
Picked up a used Pismo in great shape. I have a spare working Airport card and installed it. It did not work. So I erased the drive that had 10.2.3 and installed 10.4 with all updates to 10.4.8. Still does not work. I took the PowerBook apart and examined the card dock pins, cable and mobo connection. Physically they all look fine.
I am pretty avid and mac hardware repair. I have a couple Pismo motherboards and stuff in storage. Before I go taking all this apart again and swapping stuff out, could I be doing something wrong here?
I see only two sources of potential fault. The motherboard or the card. Any experts hear of Pismos having Airport issues? (all other buses are fine, firewire, UBS, etc) Any report of Airport cards dying? (I dont have another spare to test)
    Thanks!

    marco,
Did you select AirPort in System Prefs > Network > Network Port Configurations?
If you have the Hardware Test CD that came with Pismos or have another Mac that can burn the AHT, download it here and see what it says about AirPort.

  • Airport card and G5

    Hey-
I have a G5 from 2004 that I would like to have pick up my local existing wireless network. What product do I buy? There is one Airport Extreme Card on the Apple online store but I am suspicious it will not work with my machine it is a few years old, and the reviews are mixed.
At the local Apple store they pointed me to old airportcards.com, but they only refer to G4 airport cards, doe the G4 and G5 use the same card?
Can anyone tell me exactly what to get...
    Thanks

PCI-X should be backward compatible with regular old PCI that is in older Macs like the Power Mac G4/G3. It may be referring to a totally different type of slot that is not PCI, with that warning.
I would use one of the two slower slots (100 MHz), since the need for a faster slot is not expressed, and the older Macs did not have the faster slots.
Also, OWC has excellent tech support. They own the NewerTech brand (I believe), so they should be knowledgeable about that product. You should contact their tech support, if you are not sure about installation.

  • Airport Express and the 2008 iMac

I've just installed an Airport Express to wirelessly connect 3 desktops in a medium-sized apartment of 800 sq. feet.
Two of the three make a strong connection to the network straightaway at startup (the Mac Pro and a PC).  The iMac finds the network but establishes a weak connection (b/n 5 and 25 transfer rate) initially.  This is remedied by turning Airport off and on again.
The iMac behaved this way with my previous router (netgear n300), as well.  I was hoping to overcome it with the new base station.
Could the problem be to do with the iMac itself?  I am running OS X Leopard 10.5.8-----could this older OS be holding me back?  Or could it be the Airport card in the iMac?  Is this older card known for a weaker reception than newer Airport cards?
The Mac Pro (2009) has a newly-installed Airport card (with 2 antannae) and it outperforms the iMac despite having an additonal wall between itself and the base station.
I'd happily update the iMac to Mavericks, but any OS X beyond Leopard overheats the machine and causes a GUI freeze and loss of control.  So Leopard is where I must stay.

I have visited a genuis bench at Fountain gate however, they tell me I need to ring apple support which I will do on the next working day.

You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

What do you mean 'the rest of money in a credit card' ? All you can see on your purchase history is what you've bought, you can't see how things were billed nor the total amount that you've spent in the store - you will need to sum your purchases yourself to see the total.
