Airport card + bluetooth no longer found after Tiger reinstall on G5 imac

hi guys, i was wondering if anyone could help me one this one...
i've just bought a second-hand 20" G5 imac (2GHz PPC), running Tiger 10.4.11 off a good friend.
the airport card was running fine until a full reinstall was done, now Tiger is claiming it doesnt exist, along with no bluetooth.
has anyone encountered this before, or know of any way around???
thanks for any help you can offer!

Just guessing it sounds like may have done a reinstall from a retail Tiger DVD rather than the Software Restore disc the G5 iMac may have originally shipped with.
The problem is that the Tiger retail disc might not contain the AirPort and Bluetooth drivers necessary for the hardware in your iMac.
If that's the case, the solution would be to do a clean install of Tiger from the Software Restore disc that originally shipped with the iMac.

  • Airport card is no longer detected

    Hi,
This is my first time here, but I'm hoping to find some answers.
I've owned my computer for a year with no problems (the airport worked perfectly).
I recently was installing some system updates (think Itunes, Quicktime, and a Security one) and got an error of some sort that it was unable to complete. After restarting, my airport card was no longer detected.
    I have since:
    uninstalled I Tunes and Quicktime
Taken Airport Card out, booted up, shut down, put card back in
    Updated to new 10.4.11
    Let battery drain completely down
The card is not even detected in system profiler anymore.
Anybody have any ideas? I would love some help. Thanks!
    Specs:
    Ibook G3 600mhz
    256mb Ram
    Airport Card
    OS X 10.4.11

Take a look here and see if you can pick it out:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/security_updates/
(I'm afraid I don't know a thing about Microsoft Fixes. Like many cleaning ladies, I don't do Windows.)
If rerunning the Security Update doesn't do it, you may want to consider an _Archive and Install_ of the OS (which would mean you would need to run the combo updater to get back to OS X 10.4.11).

  • Airport Card/Bluetooth Installation

Hi. Was wondering if anyone could help provide links with easy to understand, clearcut (step by step pics are always nice) instructions on how to install an airport card and bluetooth into my G4 flatpanel? Or, is this something best left to professionals?
I recently bought a new G4 iBook, and since it has the airport card built in, would like to buy a base station and go totally wireless so I can get rid of those pesky wires and move my iMac to another room (with no internet access).
    Much, much thanks in advance.

The directions for installing an AirPort Extreme card in your iMac can be found on www.apple.com/support/imac/g4/doityourself/usb2/.
From what I understand, if I plugged my USB printer into an airport extreme base station, I can print wirelessly - without the need for bluetooth? Is this correct?
Yes that is correct. There is no need for Bluetooth.
For information on how to setup/configure your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS), visit www.apple.com/support/airport/. On the right side under "Documentation" you will find the "AirPort Extreme Setup Guide" and "Designing AirPort Networks".
To give your iMac Bluetooth abilities, you will need to purchase a USB Bluetooth adapter.

  • Airport card is no longer reconised

hi the guys and girls, basically i have have my laptop for more than 3 years now and it has worked seamlessly up until the last 6 months and just recently it has decided to not reconise the inbuilt Airport extreme card that was inbuilt at purchase (so can't be a dodgey fitting on my behalf and it has work for 3 years no probs but no suddenly) it doesn't show up in about mac> more info and it said in my network options that the airport card doesn't exisit
does anyboady no of what is causing this and how i can resolve the problem cus i hate using a cable by the router in the hall way XD

Same thing happened to me. I haven't taken it in yet but was thinking about it. If anyone has any ideas as to software loads or updates that might have caused this to "unrecognized" to happen, I am all ears.

  • Airport Card (Powerbook) not seeing network after Update

Using software update, I updated the Airport file. Somehow it seems to have knobbled my airport card and which now wont recognise my netgear dg834gt modem.
I've been trying to fix this for two days now. grrr.
Is this update for Base stations and Express units only? hmm.
Is it possible there may be a shift in the password access? Maybe I need to reconfigure the router? I am currently trying all possibilities.....
I'm on a Powerbook 1.25 @ 10.3.9 - and have reinstalled the essential system software, but I think this screwed things up even more. My main Admin name has also been changed to 'root' ?
The router seems to be fine, (connected via ethernet right now) but the airport just wont find the network and i'm sitting right next to it -- ??
All was fine before -- but now it sleeps. boo.
Am looking all over all help sites and forums but can find no answers yet -
thanks for any assistance in adv.
    J.

    Update;
Things are looking v. dodgy for PB. have archived and installed, but still a dead Airport. Can this all have been done by an airport update?! -- hmm. Maybe a full erase & install will help. Maybe its something stoopid I've not done in my Airport network prefs...?
Airport Pref. 1 is set to 'Automatic'
    TCP/IP is set to 'DHCP'
    Apple talk is 'off'
Proxies -- all are not ticked. (is this correct?) Passive FTP box is ticked.
Am reconfiguring Netgear as should be done - restarting, P.B., etc...
The more this goes on, the more i'm feeling somethings blown up in the ariport card. grrr.
Thnx for any help in adv.

  • Airport Base Station No Longer Found in Network

Since applying the 10.5.2 upgrade yesterday my home network, routed via a cable modem and a formerly dependable original Airport Base Station, is no longer recognized by Airport Utility... and the Airport icon in the finder is continually scanning. I have found, however, that my network shows up as an available option in Network System Preferences...with a Connected status and an IP address (10.0.1.3).
I can connect to the internet and read email from my main iMac because I am also connected directly via ethernet, but my laptop can't find the Airport base station, either. I have reset, unplugged, restarted, check connections and cables, etc. Both Macs easily find my Airport Express, however. I'm concerned the new update no longer supports the original base station...
On another (unrelated?) note, my external backup HD (250GB Seagate), connected by Firewire, is now recognized as "Read Only," whereas it has always had read/write permission (confirmed in Get Info). So now my backup is failing, too. Sorry to introduce a new topic, but I'm frustrated!

Firmware is uploaded onto the base station itself and is different from AirPort Utility. Although you probably cannot confirm it without connecting to the base station, I think it highly unlikely that you use a firmware version earlier than 6.1.1 (which came out in 2004). If newer firmware is contained in software on your computer, AirPort Admin Utility and/or AirPort Utility should have prompted you to upload it to the base station, whereas if it is not on your computer, Software Update (assuming you use it) should have prompted you to obtain it. Even if your firmware is older than version 6.1.1, the reset procedure is virtually the same--in that case, you won't see the AX's status LED flashing rapidly a few seconds after you start holding the reset button, and you will just need to hold the reset button for 10 full seconds.
Once you connect to the base station, you should be able to see the firmware version (e.g., "Base Station Vx.x" where x.x is the firmware version) on the opening screen of AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow, when the base station is highlighted. I imagine that AirPort Utility shows similar information. I believe that in AirPort Utility, you can also check to see if newer firmware is available from Apple (choose "Check for Updates" in the AirPort Utility menu). To the best of my knowledge, the most current firmware version for AirPort Express is 6.3.

  • Bluetooth no longer works after Nokia PC Suite Upd...

I am afraid I have a problem. I have a Nokia 6085 and Nokia PC Suite on my computer that worked just great until I updated now the Bluetooth is no longer available so I can't connect to my phone.
    Phone - Nokia 6085
Computer - Windows XP SP3 Notebook
Bluetooth Stack - Windows (Version: 5.1.2600, Build: 5512)
    PC Suite - Version 7.1.40.1

Greetings to all as this is my first post here.
I faced today the same problem with my N95 and the latest PC Suite update (7.1.40.1.).
After checking that my BT earpiece works OK and also no problems with a USB cable between my laptop and the N95, I suspected immediately the update version.
I downloaded an earlier version from : http://download.cnet.com/Nokia-PC-Suite/3000-10440_4-10598525.html and after installing this PC Suite 7.1.30.9 version, the BT worked again flawlessly as before.

  • Bluetooth was not found after upgrade to 10.4.2

Does anyone know how to bring back Bluetooth device after upgrade from 10.3.9 to 10.4.2? I've already check my system profiler, and it shows, "No information found" on the bluetooth hardware. On the Apple task, the bluetooth icon shows, "the bluetooth: not avilable", and it color is gray. Thanks.

  • Bluetooth Radio not found after Standy in Windows XP

I am running Windows XP SP3 with Boot Camp in my Core2Duo MacBook Pro (late 2006). I use an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse with my system. When I initially boot into XP, both devices work fine. When I put the system in standby mode, however, it seems it no longer can find the radio once the system wakes back up. My device no longer connect, and when I try and add a device again, the system shows no known devices, and when i tell it that the device is ready to be found, I immediately get a message that no Bluetooth radio can be found. A restart solves the problem, since I often use the unit while traveling, it's a pain to have to restart each time to use an external mouse.
    Any suggestions?

I think many have this problem, us included. Only way to get Mighty Mouse & Keyboard back is to repower by flipping the switches -- not user friendly in the least.

  • Windows file sharing can no longer work after tiger upgrade

hi guys, ive been searching the web to find a cure on my problem for a long time now, but still no success, hope someone could help me out.
ok heres my problem, before the upgrade, file sharing with windows is perfect, with no problems at all, but when i upgraded one of our mac to tiger, windows file sharing is not working anymore, i cant connect or see my windows xp computer on the network and vice versa, windows cannot see my mac with tiger on the network.
Our other 2 macs here running in panther are fine( meaning, windows file sharing is working)
Now we've bought a new computer which is a mac pro with fresh install of leopard, i setup the windows file sharing, but i was surprised that i cant see my windows xp box too on the network, and vice versa, the pc cant see my mac pro too on the network, whats wrong with tiger and leopard file sharing???? please help me, im so frustrated cant make it to work. i know, my pc computer has nothing to do with it, coz i can still connect to a mac with panther os. hope someone can help me fix this... please..

This site has some information on file sharing and printer sharing between Windows and Macs for various combinations of OSs. The Leopard repository isn't quite as mature as the Tiger repository, but there's a lot of good information at this site. Hopefully, it will be helpful to you in resolving your Windows/Mac issues.

  • SD CARD READER NO LONGER WORKS after IOS upgrade. Help!

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can get my sd card reader working again? My generation 1 iPad worked fine with it until I updated to IOS5. Today was the first time trying to upload pics since the upgrade. Nothing. Not even an error message. I rebooted and still nothing. SoTHAT was $30 well spent. So now, in order to get the pics onto my iPad, I am sending the pics to myself from my HP laptop, opening the emails on the iPad, and saving from there. The card reader used to work great for pics and videos. Gotta love it when upgrades make so I can no longer do before the "improvements." I would just return the camera kit/card reader, but I purchased it a year ago, so that bird has flown. Suggestions?
Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!

  • ITunes no longer "found" after sync

I was disappointed to find that after syncing about 400 of my favorite songs to my iPhone with iTunes 7.3 (OS X), those tracks had the dreaded "grey arrow" beside them, indicating they could not be found.
Of course, clicking the song made iTunes try and look in the last known location and sure enough, the songs opened up.
This happened for newly purchased AAC and Enhanced AAC tracks from iTunes as well as ones I ripped from CD and even MP3s.
Interesting note about the MP3 files - they were somehow reset to open with text edit (the notepad equivalent on a Mac) and i had to reset them to open with iTunes.
    Any one else experience this?

A mystery that was related to having the files on a Buffalo Terastation NAS. When I changed the mappings of the SMB share, it worked.

  • HP2015 no longer found after 10.92 system update

Ever since I updated my system software last weekend to 10.92 my HP2015 laserjet printer cannot be found! Help!

I know what you mean. But until now I've had pretty good luck.
One more odd thing about this situation:
If, after failing to print a document ("The Printer is Not Connected" message), I shut down the computer and then
start it again--the document prints! Shows it's connected but not very convenient!

  • USB Card Reader no longer works after Lion update.

My USB card reader/writers no loger work since I "upgraded" to Lion 10.7.4. All was well with Snow Leopard, but with no built-in SD card reader I must rely on USB readers. Anyone know how to fix this issue? Are there updates avaiable or coming soon to resolve this issue?

Hi MissMedia 83 and welcome to the forums!!
This has been a trend that a lot of AppleCare advisors have been seeing as call drivers. Essentially, many of the USB internet modems that are used widely require a 32bit kernel to operate. In Snow Leopard, although the system was in 64bit by defauly, people had the option of booting the computer into a 32bit mode to use the USB modems successfully.
With Lion, however, no such options exists. If your USB modem device is only compatible with a 32bit machine, then your only options are to either downgrade to Snow Leopard or find a different provider that supports 64bit.
Sorry to be the bearer of crappy news. My suggestion is to use something like a pocket wifi or personal hotspot, where you have a wifi network that is being created by a small device that connects to the cell network. Much much easier and your computer thinks it's just a regular wifi network.
This is what I think the issue is anyway. Could be wrong.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Airport ExtremeWireless network no longer works after Airport Utility 5.3.2

I just updated Airport Utility to 5.3.2 and now my Airport Extreme will only give a self-assigned IP address and the internet won't work. I am using a Time-Warner Cable internet modem connected to the Airport Extreme then to my computer. If I take the Airport Extreme out of the chain and directly connect the cable modem to the computer, it works fine. When I try to re-do the airport setup if I do bridge-mode, it says that I will get a blinking amber light and if I do the other mode, it says everything is fine. When I then open system preferences, it says I have a self-assigned IP and the internet won't work. Someone please help me! I need my wireless network.

I assume that you mean you just updated to 5.3.2 firmware on your AEBSn base station.
I suggest, as the first step, is to do a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    o Power-down the computer(s).
    o Power-down the AEBSn.
o Power-down the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 10 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s).
If this doesn't solve the problem, then I suggest that you try to downgrade back to 5.3.1. If it doesn't help then the problem wasn't the upgrade but something else ... possibly the configuration settings.
