Airport card can't detect wireless network

I just installed a new Airport Card (bought thru 3rd party seller) in my Powermac G4/933 and it won't see my wireless network. I have a Belkin wireless router and my Powerbook G4 with Airport Extreme sees the network fine. Is the old style Airport Card not compatible with my network for some reason? Any help appreciated.

Do you have your Belkin configured so that it will not broadcast the SSID? If so, you will need to go to the AirPort menu, select "Other..." and type in the name of the network.
Also ensure that your Belkin is operating in an 802.11b compatible mode.

  • Airport express can't extend wireless network

Airport express(A1264) can't extend wireless network. It seems that Airport express can't find my home Wi-Fi network. Amber light is blinking, and AirPort Utility of MacBook also can't find Airport express.
If AE is connected with TC via LAN cable, amber light is blinking with message "Wireless Network" (This Airport base station is set up to join a specific wireless network that can't be found...)
It was successful only once, but all failed after that.
Is there solution for this problem?

Sorry, I misunderstood what you wanted to do.
Since you did tell us that you had the Express connected with an Ethernet cable, I assumed that was how you wanted to configure the Express.
But I want to extend a wireless network (not using ethernet)
Because Airport Express and Time Capsule cannot be connect via ethernet cable.
Follow the same setup as above....and do not connect an Ethernet cable.
Keep the Express near the Time Capsule for the setup. Once you have a green light, move the Express to a point that is about half way between the Time Capsule and area that needs more wireless coverage.
If you reset the Express several times and try the setup several times without success, I think you have to suspect a defective Express.

  • Windows Can't Detect Wireless Network

I have a windows xp laptop which can't detect the wireless network i've created with airport express- but it seems to be able to detect other networks around the area.
My two other machines (one macbook and the other xp) does pick up the network.
It seems like everything is working fine. 2/3 computers can pick up the signal, but just one of the computers can't! And i've repaired and reinstalled the driver for the wireless card, but it just won't detect the airport express signal!

    That link does not help.
The network card on my windows xp machine works fine. It can detect other networks in the building and works at other WiFi spots.
I think its something to do with somthing in XP and Vista that is preventing it from detecting Airport Express' signal.
I've increased signal robustness- still doesn't work.
I've removed the password- still doesn't work (obviously not a security problem).
I've updated the software- still doesn't work.
I'm very confused as my XP machine did detect it initially and connected to it successfully earlier this year, but it doesn't anymore.
It seems like the network can be detected by some windows machine but not others???

  • Spectrum Expert can't detect Wireless network and show SNR info

    Hello,
We are using the version 3.2.163 of the Spectrum Expert on a shared laptop. I was able to see SSIDs under Active Devices and get display in SNR chart before. But recently for some reason, I can can't get SSIDs and only get interfering devices listed under Active Devices and got nothing deplayed in the SNR chart. I could not trace back what has been changed and double checked most of the settings, still not luck.
I appreciate any suggestions to get this fixed.
    Thank you!

Humm, no comments from the experts?
Ok, I will give it a try.
I have SE 3.3.53 connected to a version 1 sensor card, loaded in a Compaq nw8440 laptop with an Intel 3945ABG nic.
    Win7.
Spectrum Expert Sensor card provides the Analog RF energy data.  Only.
The 3945 provides the digital network information via the windows API (WZC in XP) (WLAN AutoConfig in Win7).
Various windows patches and updates have interfeered with the ability of third-party applications to intercept or latch-on-to the data from the wnic.
SE no longer hears my 3945.  However, I plugin a Cisco/Linksys AE2500 usb unit and presto Active Device data appears.
Interesting feature is that when I remove the USB wnic, the data link established attaches to the onboard wnic data stream.
On my XP desktop I use SE 4.1.11 for SE Remote.
The digital link is also broken, with everything I try.  But then you don't want/need Active Device data from your house when your remoting to a distant shop.
I don't understand why the 3502/3602's can pass digital info right along with the analog data.
So in your case maybe installing another wnic might help with your issue.

  • Can not detect wireless card

    WRE54G / Win XP SR2
My laptop and PDA can connect to the network wirelessly with no problems.
Trying to connect my WRE54G to my network. On every attempt at AutoConfigure nothing happens. Have disabled router security and 'SPI Firewall' (whatever that is). Still nothing. Have disabled router security and 'SPI Firewall' (whatever that is), and McAfee Firewall. Still nothing. I have moved the WRE54G to within ~4 feet of the router and tried everything again. Still nothing.
I have tried Setup but when I hit 'Next' I get the popup "Can not detect wireless card."
Have tried a reset and have unplugged/replugged the WRE54G. FWIW, the WRE54G 'Link' light blinks blue once for about a second and turns a constant red. The 'Activity' light blinks blue twice quickly about every 5 seconds. Nothing on my PC shows any response.
What is the wireless card that can't be found? The WRE54G?
    How do I resolve this?
    33#44

this worked for me too.  Although I was never able to use the cisco install wizard successfully.  I am using WEP security on my access point.  I took the following steps.
    1.  From laptop, connect to network wirelessly with WEP security settings in place
    2.  From laptop, open browser, go to: 192.168.1.1, select wireless security, disable wireless security
    3.  From Range Extender, hold auto-configure button.  It took me multiple attempts (~5) and it connected so the 'Link' light changed from red to a consistent blue.
    4.  From laptop, disable security for the access point (via control panel, wireless network connection settings)
    5.  From laptop, connect to wireless access point (via control panel, wireless network connection settings).  test internet connection.  Internet should work.
    6.  From laptop, access range extender web utility.  open browser, got to 192.168.1.240, enable security, input desired WEP security settings/passphrase.
    7.  From laptop, enable wireless security for the access point.  from browser, go to 192.168.1.1, select wireless security and enable it.  use the same settings from step 6 (from the range extender).
    8.  From laptop, update wireless adapter settings to connect using the same security settings (eg. passphrase) from step 6/7.
range extender, access point and wireless adapter/laptop should all be connected.

  • Wireless card can not find any network.

    I have 2 wireless card:
    TP-Link PCI card:TL-WN851N

but TP-Link can not find any wireless network, even if I moved my wirelss router to same room with TP-Link wireless card.
    Anybody have an idea ?

  • Airport does not detect wireless network; it says problem = [network]"connection timeout"

It is not a problem of signal strength, and my Airport detects other networks. It used to detect the network I want to connect to, for two years. It suddenly stopped detecting the network (which is WPA Personal password-protected). When I select choose other network and type in the password, it won't connect to it claiming "connection timeout."
This happened before. Then after several days, Airport was able to detect and connect to the network I want. Now it again won't detect the network, and this seems permanent short of taking measures to address the problem. Should I try connecting manually to the network, and hodo I got about that? Thank you to anyone out there ho might be able to help.

i have a macmini (OS 10.5) and use a belkin wireless router. When I turn on Mac address filtering on the router I have an Intermittent problem. The airport does not recognize the wireless network. On the network preferences panel there is a message that the airport is using a self assigned IP address. sometimes the message says the airport has no IP address. If I turn off the Mac address filtering and use a WAP password only the network is recognised and connects without a problem. How do I resolve this? I dont have the problem with a iBook using system 10.4. Is turning off the Mac address filtering secur?

  • HT4259 I have a Netgear wndr3400 and I can "join a wireless network" but can not "extend a wireless network" on my Airport express.  Does anyone know why?

Sorry, but "Extend a wireless network" is a proprietary Apple setting that will only work if you have another Apple router.
It is not compatible with devices from other manufacturers.

  • X200 not detecting wireless networks

    Hello,
I have a ThinkPad X200 running windows XP, with an Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN network card.
It used to be working great, but about 3 weeks ago it stopped detecting wireless networks.
Since then it states: "No wireless networks were found in range."
There are wireless networks around, this has been confirmed by using other computers. In fact, the laptop used to connect just fine. Just seemed to go out one day.
The driver appears to be the newest one, (1/22/2012).
And looking in the support, the "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" button is unchecked.
It has been repaired and uninstalled. And seems to think the device is working properly.
The only thing i think is that the receiver on the card is broken somehow and needs to be replaced.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM
    MacBook Pro
Laptops with a battery you can remove
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
In AirPort Utility how is your AirPort Extreme configured in the AirPort panel, Wireless tab, Radio Mode list? If it's set to 802.11n only the AirPort card in your G5 probably doesn't support that.

  • Unable to conect Original Airport Card to password protected wireless route

I am trying to connect a ClamShell notebook( OS 10.3.9) with an Apple Original Airport Card (installed) to a wireless router. When I access the network in System preferences, it detects the router and my Airport Card and indicates that a password is needed to access the that network. After inputting the password and with the location router highlighted, it does not connect me with the network as I go through the setup procedure. The system administrator successfully connected to the router with a PC laptop. Am I not selecting a topic that I should or have I not performed the set up procedure correctly? I did not have this problem when I connected to a non-password router.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Darrell

Never received a reply from Henry B. so I decided to experiment with my problem. I Inputted the password in the Setup assistant, highlighted the router location and clicked Continue to continue with the Assistant. The Airport icon in the top bar became more pronounced instead of faded. I did not receive confirmation of a connection, in fact the back up page button was the only button active. I closed out of the Setup Assistant. I brought a browser and found the browser was connected to the Internet.
MORAL: Don;t always believe the Setup Assistant

  • IPod Touch suddenly no longer can connect to Wireless Network.

Hello, I have yet to find an answer to my problem so maybe you guys can help.
I have had my iTouch for at least 2 years and have never had a problem with it, and constantly used it to connect to the wireless network in our home.
However, starting two days ago, my iTouch can rarely detect the network (even when right next to the router) and if it does, it is unable to join because it loses the signal almost immediately. After much troubleshooting, (laptops connect fine, friends iTouch's connect fine) I have determined that something is wrong with mine.
The only thing I can think of that happened that day, was that night it had gotten extremely cold. (Montana, oh yay.) Could this have caused the malfunction?
    Any insight would be appreciated!

Given that it got really cold and you brought it inside, condensation could have formed on the inside bits. Dump it in a bag of rice or a jar with those silica gel packages for a couple of days and see what happens.
If you still have problems connecting, try power cycling your router and resetting your touch's network settings.

  • I have a pioneer vsx-910-k and airport express.I have a wireless network at home. What's the best arquiecture/config to do with this hardware?

I have a pioneer vsx-910-k and airport express.I have a wireless network at home. What's the best arquiecture/config to do with this hardware?

I would suggest that you connect the Pioneer to the AirPort Express Base Station using an optical digital audio cable that has a TOSlink connector on one end and a 3.5 mm optical connector (Mini Plug) on the other. You can then connect the Mini Plug end into the AirPort's audio port and the TOSlink end into one of the Pioneer's optical digital audio ports.

  • MacBook pro does not detected wireless network?????

Hi! I have an airport express that provides the wireless network for the house. My iMac and iBook as well as iphone have no problem detecting the network. But the network does not show up in the drop down list that shows up when I turn the airport on. When I click on "other" and type in the information that way, the connection times out.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Thx!

I have a similar problem. When I set the network to not be closed, My MacBook Pro finds and connects when I return from being away. When I set the network to be "closed", it will not connect automatically (I have checked "Remember and network this computer has joined" & "Remember this Network ") it will not join automatically. However, when I enter the name and password, it connects and all is well. My iPhone will automatically connect regardless of the "closed" being checked or not. Any suggestions? I would prefer to retain the "closed" setting for extra security.
    Thanks,
    Bruce

  • Need to configure Airport connection to access corporate wireless network

Need to configure Airport connection to access corporate wireless network.
Have imported my certificate from Windows XP machine into keychain and made Leopard always trust in order to authenticate automatically into my corporate wireless network. Also attempted to establish a new 802.1x connection via network preferences without any success. It keeps asking me for username and password even though we used self-generated certificates to log into corporate wireless network. Does anybody have any instructions on how to successfully configure certificates in Leopard?

Welcome to the discussion area, jackregan!
You'll need to "hard reset" the Time Capsule and then reconfigure it again. To do this, you will hold in the reset button until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly, keep holding another second or two and then release.
The "hard reset" will not affect the data on your Time Capsule
Now you can open AirPort Utility and configure the Time Capsule using wireless (be sure to log on to the default network which will have a name like Apple Network xxxxxx), or you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule to have AirPort Utility communicate with it that way.
When you open AirPort Utility, click Continue to follow the guided setup to re-configure your Time Capsule. You would choose the option to "Create a wireless network" when you are given the configuration options.
