AirPort card not working ... mostly

This is one that has me a bit stumped. I have a G3 iBook with the original airport card installed. Yesterday, it stopped recognizing any wireless networks in the local area (I have one graphite ABS and one AirPort Express, plus there are one or two other wireless network around here I can normally at least see). My other portable (PowerBook G4 12") sees all these networks fine. I re-seated the card in the iBook, to no avail. I assumed it had conked out and started researching replacement cards (quite spendy, as you probably know).
Just today, my iBook started recognizing wireless nets again ... briefly. For about five or ten minutes, I saw a few networks and actually was able to access the WAN. After then, though, it's back to not working at all. Has this happened to anyone? Was it the last, final gasp of my venerable airport card? Or if this has happened to you, did you find that it was another problem entirely?
Thanks for any help.
iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Appelfan,
I had gotten frustrated with the random behavior and posted a question about the possibility of an USB dongle wireless solution for the Mac. Duane answered me and gave me a very helpful suggestion - that I consider Ethernet Wireless Adapters, and even mentioned a couple of brands - just in case you may consider that route. I have copied his responses to me, below:
Thank you,

An alternative to USB wireless adapters is Ethernet wireless adapters. Those require no drivers and therefore will work with any Ethernet device regardless of OS.

Examples of Ethernet wireless adapters are the Linksys WET11 and Linksys WET54G. There are many more.

  • Airport card not working?

I have a PowerBook G4, came with Airport card. We travel in an RV and over the past year have stayed at numerous campgrounds with WIFI, and my laptop has connected fine, as long as the signal strength is good enough. So I know it works, or at least has in the past. Yesterday, checked into a campground we have stayed at before, got out my laptop, checked the signal strength, which was pretty weak to non-existant. We are at the far edge of the park, so I wasn't surprised. Our site also has a phone line, so I got out my phone cord and connected per dial-up, got on the internet fine.
A few minutes after I had been online by dial-up, I noticed that my Airport icon was showing good signal strength. So I disconnected the dial-up, and tried to get online per Airport and have been trying ever since. It shows good signal strength, tells me I am connected to the network, but Safari won't open and it tells me I am not connected to the internet. The network status on Airport says that "Airport has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect".
Did I mess something up by using dial-up without turning Airport off? I usually don't turn it off; usually I don't have access to a dial-up, so I either have internet or I don't, at campground. Anybody have any ideas about this?
    Thanks.

Another piece of the puzzle: yesterday afternoon I took the laptop to a place where I knew I had gotten on the internet, and it still worked. Then this morning, back here at this campground, I tried again, and no go. Then I noticed in the list of networks one called "default". I clicked on it, not really expecting anything, and Safari immediately fired up and boom, I was on the 'net.
I don't know if this "default" is someone's private network or not; all I do know, is that the Airport card is working. But for some reason, not on that one particular network. I've done some reading back here, and found that a few others have experienced this same thing. So, for now, I have internet access, but don't understand why. Nor do I understand why I don't have it on the other network.
I appreciate the reply and will make a note of that for future times, if this sould happen again somewhere else.

  • Broadcom Airport Card not working

My original airport card (Macbook 1.83 GHz Intel with Snow Leopard) was cutting out when warm so I purchased a Broadcom BCM94321MC 802.11n Mini PCIe WLAN Card 0NJ449 which is theoretical compatible and replaced the original a/b/g card. The computer cannot find any wifi sources. Has anyone out there performed this kind of card change with problems?
Do I need some kind of new driver for this Broadcom card? Is this the wrong card? If not perhaps the card isn't malfunctioning unless there is some kind of connection problem. Is there any problems normally when you replace the card or reconnect the antenna wires?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • Airport Card Not Working After Replacing LCD Screen

My iBook G4 had a broken screen so I bought the LCD display and replaced the screen. But now my Airport gets no signal. I know I didn't break anything on the card nor the antenna. Any ideas??? It says the airport is on, but i just have no signal.
    iBook G4, PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Thanks man. I will take a look at it later on tonight and see what happens. From my understanding some of these LCD's have the airport built-in or is it the antenna? I think mine is one of those, But it looked like the antenna just runs on the side of the casing for the LCD display which is still intact as I only removed the actual LCD screen. I'm gonna see if the connector is in fact not pushed in all the way although I never touched it.

  • G5 AirPort card not working!

Okay. so I have a 3yr old iMac G5 (pre-iSight) with an AirPort Extreme card. Just moved into new apt with 2 other macs (PowerMac G5, and a PowerBook). Set up modem and wireless network with 2 AirPort Expresses throughout apt (both have green light).
For some reason, both the powerMac and powerBook can see the newtork (full bars!) but my G5 can't see anything! I've tried moving my G5 to the same desk as the powerMac to see if it was the location, but NO! Nothing. Tried connecting via ethernet, and nothing... No idea what I should do now. Please help!

I also have a G5 Quad and know that installation of the Airport Extreme/Bluetooth card was somewhat complicated. Perhaps the card and/or antennas came loose/unseated in the move? Does your machine see the card as being installed? I've read a few other posts on these forums where the problem was solved by gently wiggling or reseating the card and/or checking the small antenna connectors on the card. Again, be careful! I've also heard that these cards - and their connectors - can be quite fragile.
    Good luck!

  • My airport randomly said 'airport card not installed'

  • Airport Card Not Installed Error on Macbook Pro 13

I've a Macbook Pro 13 less than 1year old. 3 days ago, I attempted to update my iPod Touch 3G from 3.1.2 to 4.2.1. While in the process, my iPod froze and I forced quitted iTunes.
On the next boot, Airport was off. And no matter what I did, it didn't turn on. I fixed this with a reinstall of the OS. Yesterday night, I turned off Airport to save power. Today morning onwards, I see the warning "Airport Card not Installed".
    What could be the problem?

No idea, but here is a thread on this very subject and many suggestions which have worked for some people:

  • After Service, Airport card stops working randomly on macbook pro 17" early 2009

    Hi,
So after the last time my computer was serviced, the airport card stops working randomly on moving the screen.
Upons restarting the computer, it sometimes says wi-fi hardware not installed. Then, if I move my machine around,
lift it up, turn it around, place it back on the table and restart it, it works again. I don't understand this.
And all this started happening the moment my warranty ran out. Extremely frustrating!!

It may be possible that one of the following may be the issue:
The internal AirPort Extreme card is not seated properly.
The internal Wi-Fi antenna connector is not seated properly in the AirPort Extreme card.
The internal AirPort Extreme card's connector is faulty or damaged.
The internal AirPort Extreme card is faulty.
To get an idea on how the Extreme card is installed, please check out the following iFixit article.

  • Runtime error R6025 message after log on to Vista - Flash Card not working

    Hi
I'm a newbie & would appreciate any advice.
I am getting a runtime error message R6025 when I log on to Windows Vista.
When I click out of the box I then get a message saying Toshiba Flash Card not working.
I cancel that and my laptop is ok except I don't know if the flashcard is working or not because I don't know what it does.
    Sorry if I sound thick
    Thanks

    Hi
I found this MS knowledge base article:
    +Description of the R6025 run-time error in Visual C++\+
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/125749
But I doubt this description would be useful for you or anyone here. It describes this error in Visual C++ and this is programming language.
However, I think you should simply reinstall the Value Added Package which you could download firstly from the Toshiba European page.
At first you have to remove the old Value Added Package from the system, then reboot the notebook and follow with new VAP installation.
    Bye

I have installed the agent 10 or 15 times and one installation has failed, no error appeared during the installation but I am having inconsistent issues with my ethernet card not working here and there. We rebooted and can log into Novell client but the login prompt did not appear for ESM client or the icon was not in the systray. Everything seems to work, besides at times (a couple times today) it terminates his ethernet card/connection. I would re-image his computer but he has several applications and it would take several hours, so I am hoping someone has an idea to fix this issue. So I was trying to figure out why he did not get the prompt to login and why it's not in the systray and it appears to not have completed the install? I checked the add/remove programs, its not listed within their, I also checked the registry and found nothing for endpoint within their, but the files are within c:\program files\novell\zenworks endpoint security.
I have also tried uninstalling it but that fails due to it "not being installed", and it will not reinstall over itself either.
I did notice that stuninstdrv.exe is running in task manager. Any help would be great...

If you are searching the registry, check for the "Senforce" string. It should be at HKLM\Software\Senforce
Try running the install program for the ZSC with the following command line:
    setup.exe /V"STUNINSTALL=1"
If you've specified an uninstall password, try this one instead:
setup.exe /V"STUNINSTALL=1 STUIP=password"" (please note the double quote at the end)
Let me know if that helped you.

  • Airport Express not working with Comcast

I used to have AT&T and had my airport working well. Yesterday i changed to Comcast and my airport is not working the light stays yellow.. I tried resetting it but it didn't work.. I use it with my old Cisco router and its working. Whats wrong with my Airport Express? My computers are Windows 7

A solid amber light indicates that the AirPort Express has locked up....or it is defective.
Suggest you that try a Factory Default Reset as follows:
    Pull the Express from power
Let it rest for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it for another 8-10 seconds while you plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 40-45 seconds to restart
The Express should display a slow, blinking amber light at this time
If you continue to see a solid amber light after a few tries with a Factory Default Reset, the Express has failed and it will need to be replaced.

  • SB04100 Sound Blaster Card not working after computer rebuild

=SB0400 Sound Blaster Card not working after computer rebuildZ I did a full disk format and reinstall for a friend on a Dimension 3000, running XP SP3. There is no sound at all. Speakers are good, tested on another system. Model number on the back of the sound card is SB0400, so I assume this is an older 24 bit PCI SoundBlaster card. Although I reinstalled all drivers from Dell, I found no drivers for this. The Creative site has no listing for this model.
Computer does not seem to recognize the card. Have not opened the box yet but I assume if I were to remove and then reinstall the card it would be recognized (?) I then have to find an SB0400 driver.
Does anyone know where I can find an SB0400 driver ? Does the strategy of pulling and reinstalling the card make sense ? (I have really avoided tampering with any of the hardware on this box -- since it is not mine.)

Re: SB0400 Sound Blaster Card not working after computer rebuild? Thanks much for your response. Problem solved for now. I removed the board and then reinserted it, after which I was able to download the drivers directly. Some of my difficulty with this whole process has been ) I didn't know there was no working speaker in the computer and 2) I apparently misunderstood the BIOS settings for this. I re-set it up as an add-on board during the troubleshooting process. After loading the driver, I went back to the original setting (don't recall what it was but it was for integrated sound). The setting for integrated sound works fine, with external speakers and the new 24 bit driver. Still some noise (popping and static) but this board shares the bus with 2 other cards one of which is a wireless network card. May be a PCI latency issue but I'm reluctant to change that because the network card is a bit shaky anyway.
Everything works for now -- I'll be glad to get this particular computer out of my house !
