Airport Card on MacBook Pro unable to connect to VPN networks

For the last year or so (apart from two glorious months at the start of this year) when using an Airport connection, I'm unable to access any VPN networks. I always get an error saying that the VPN server is not responding.
However, if I use an ethernet connection, a USB Wifi modem or an iPhone tethering I can connect without any issues.
The VPN connections started working in January to my utter surprise. I think it may have been connected to the 10.6.6 update, but stopped working again when I did my last update on March 13th. I installed Java 10.6 update 4, iTunes 10.2.1 and Safari 5.0.4.
I'm about to install Mac OS X 10.6.7 to see if it has any effects but I wanted to know if this is a known issue and whether or not there are any solutions to the problem?

Seems like the 10.6.7 update solved the problem.

Hello Oliver,
I would start with removing your Wi-Fi network from your Preferred Network list. To do that, navigate to the Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet section in the first article and it will walk you through that. Another thing you can try is creating a new Network Location to see if there is an issue with your current configuration and the steps for that are in the second article.

  • Macbook pro won't connect to wireless network

hi, hopefully somebody could give me an advice!
i purchased a 13.3 inch macbook pro yesterday and i'm in love...except for the fact that it will NOT connect to my wireless network. i have been using a linksys WRT45G version 6 router for many years with no problems (currently have 3 computers linked to it - all pc's). i've updated the firmware but still no luck.
the macbook pro is able to see the network but can not join - it gives me a generic "connection failed" message when putting in the WEP password. i consider myself to be techno-savvy, but not with macs! i'm completely lost and equally frustrated. help, please!

    Hi guys,
I seem to have a similar problems. It is starting to occur this afternoon and somehow i cant fix it.
I have just installed my Snow Leopard about 3 days ago... and it was working fine. This afternoon I had a problem with my modem, but after resetting it about 3 times it was working fine again. So i tried to connect to it wirelessly but it kept saying 'connection timeout'. It becomes really annoying at the point of resetting the modem to its factory default settings. But then, i tried using the ethernet cable. It seems to be working fine for now. I tried connecting it through my home computer 'wirelessly' and it seems to be working fine. What I am wondering now is that, why doesn't my MacBook Pro connects wirelessly? Anyone has any idea?
PS: I have tried changing the channel of my modem and it doesn't do much.
    Thanks

  • My Macbook Pro is not connecting to the network and reads no airport card installed

This morning all of a sudden my mac has no network connection. When I run the cursor over the area to select it reads that no airport card is installed. I was online last night nd everything was fine. Thank you in advance for your help.

I am having the same problem.  First on a new ViewSonic, which I sent back thinking it wasn't working.  Now the same problem on my new Powerbook Mac with a new Epson projector.  Apple support hasn't been helpful.

  • Detecting airport card in MacBook Pro unibody Mid 2009

I own Mid 2009 Macbook Pro Unibody. Airport was working fine, but now says No Airport card installed. Curious how I can check harware is present(no loose card). I saw other software related suggestions but did not resolve.
Shouldnt the airport card be listed under System Profiler --> Hardware ?
I see Airport under System Profiler --> Network, but only  Software version details are present.
    Many Thanks!

I have a 15.4" 2.66GHz Mid 2009 MBP on 10.6.1 and I am having a similar problem. I honestly do not recall having the issue before installing Snow Leopard. The problem I have is it seems whenever it first wakes from sleep I can instantly use the keyboard and enter my password to unlock it but the touchpad is almost completely unresponsive for the first 5 - 10 seconds then it starts responding some, but like was mentioned if I swipe with 2 fingers it seems to respond as it should with just 1 finger. After approx 1 minute or so it seems to fully wake up and then my touchpad works normally from then on. So it seems to only happen when first waking from sleep.

  • MacBook Pro won't connect to wireless network unless tilted

Hi! My MacBook Pro occasionally has trouble connecting to the wireless network in my house, but that can usually be solved by turning Airport off and then back on. Today (very suddenly), Airport disconnected from my network and could not find it again. I tried restarting my MacBook Pro and router multiple times. Finally it was able to connect, but here's the thing: it only works if my MacBook is tilted at an angle. If I try to open a webpage while the MacBook is sitting normally on a flat surface, the page won't load. If I lift one side of the MacBook so that it's tilted at a 45 degree angle, the page will load. Once it's level again the internet will stop working and the Airport signal bars will turn gray.
I've never come across a problem like this before. Everything was running fine this morning. It is so strange and I have no idea what to do! Help, please? Is my Airport dying? Is something loose inside? My MacBook Pro is about 4 years old.

Delete your network from system preferences, network, advanced.
re enter your network you wish to join
If that fails then do a PRAM reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    and a SMC reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Maybe something to do with the motion sensor
if so try resetting the SMC

  • Macbook Pro Doesn't connect to Wireless network automatically

I just enabled WPA encryption on my router and now my macbook won't automatically connect to my router. I have to select my router in the wireless menu and then it joins. I don't have to type in my encryption key, I have my key stored in my keychain. Before I enabled encryption my macbook connected just fine. I'm have 10.4.11 and a D-Link DIR-655 router.

Could be a corrupt preference file. Not sure which one is relevent here. It may just come under the general Finder prefs. Have a look in User>Library>Preferences for anything wireless related. If nothing shows, try dragging com.apple.finder.plist to the desktop, then either relaunch the Finder or log out and back in. If no change just put it back and choose 'replace' when asked. If you find something more appropriate try that too. Not at a Mac right now otherwise I'd be a little more helpful.

  • Satellite Pro U400 (XP pro) Unable to connect to wireless network

I've got a U400 straight out of the box. I've installed XP pro through the recovery disk with no problems, except I'm not able to connect to the wireless network here. (Other devices connect fine so the problem is at the laptop end) I've tried updating through windows update (SP3) through a wired LAN connections but still the same problem. Other posts on here have suggestions for downloading new realtek drivers. All the solutions presented don't work for me. Anything else I can try?
I'm able to see all the wireless networks available in range and can attempt to connect (provide the WPA password) but then after watching the "preparing to connect" screen for a while it seems to give up without reporting any kind of error

    Hi guys
First of all check if you are using the latest BIOS version.
Secondly disable all the security options on the WLan router (MAC address filtering, Firewall, WLan encryption, etc) and try to establish the WLan connection.
If you will be successful then the issue is definitely related to the encryption settings
Step by step enable the settings and configure the router again.
    Good luck

  • Setting up new ipad 2. Won't accept my PW for my Airport Extreme (Wi Fi network?)  Where is the PW for my WiFi? I am stymied. Can I set up through My MacBook Pro, which IS connected to my WiFi network?

Setting up new ipad 2. Won't accept my PW for my Airport Extreme (Wi Fi network?)  Where is the PW for my Wi Fi? I am stymied. Can I set up through my MacBook Pro, which IS connected to my WiFi network?

If you could provide the make and model number of the modem that the AirPort Extreme will be connecting to, we can likely tell you a bit more about what to expect in the way of getting the AirPort set up and working.
Unfortunately, "plug and play" does not apply here. You will need to set up and configure the AirPort Extreme using your iPad or iMac to name the AirPort as a device, assign a device password, name the wireless network, assign a device password and a few other things.
Once the AirPort Extreme is set up, you can connect the PC to one of the LAN <--> ports on the AirPort Extreme using an Etherent cable.
The iPad and iMac will connect to the wireless network that the AirPort Extreme provides.

  • Would like my macbook pro to only connect to time capsule and not to airport express that is extending network.  Is there a way to do this?

I have a network set up with a main time capsule and airport express.  The airport express is configured to extend network.  While its fine for our iphones and ipad to connect to the express, I would like the Macbook pro to only connect to the time capsule as it seems to run faster.  Any way to do this?

You are extending the 2.4ghz.. as that is the only way you can connect iphones.
But if you have Gen2 or later TC you can setup 5ghz to use a different wireless name to 2.4ghz.. and it is much faster.. you need to be close to the TC though.. like in the same room.
Make sure you download 5.6 airport utility if you haven't already.. go to the wireless options and the extra wireless area.. set a different wireless name (SSID in everybody but apple's book). Then you can deliberately select it.

  • 15" MacBook Pro randomly loses connection to my AirPort Express wi-fi network.

My 15" MacBook Pro randomly loses connection to my AirPort Express wi-fi network. I have to switch off wi-fi on my Mac then switch on again to reconnect. Any reason why this random occurrence keeps happening which never happened before? Any solutions and fixes would also be welcomed.

In the airport utility, you can alter the radio modes... and change the channels from automatic to a manual one.
Hold down the Option key, and  click on your wifi icon, it will tell you what channels are currently being used on your OSX.

  • Brand new Macbook Pro won't connect to  wireless internet

Hi all, I'm relatively new to the whole mac thing, but I have a problem. I got a macbook pro for college last week, and have been struggling to connect to the internet ever since. I notice other's are having issues too.
    So here's what's going on:
When I set my pro to using DHCP, I get no IP address, or sometimes get the self assigned address 169.etc. Yet when I put in a static address, subnet mask and router info I've found for my network, It says connected but when i click on safari no internet. I've run diagnostic in safari and all the lights go green (under manual ip etc) except internet and server (which are yellow). What's going on here? It can't be the airport card, because my pro connects seamlessly to my college's wifi, my ethernet cable and rogers internet stick. So is it my modem/router combo (using a siemens SE567), or is it because I'm running 10.6.4?
Please help, I have to use the internet for uploading videos and other heavy internet usages that my internet stick can't do (unless I want a $100 bill each month), and being tethered to my ethernet is kind of a bother.
*I should also note I have a pc laptop that runs fine off the network (siemens se567), though setting it up also gave me issues.*
    Thanks

My MacBook pro will not connect to the Internet through wifi. I have several other wifi enabled devices and they are all connected to the Internet just fine... What could/would cause this?

Disable your AirPort and enable in a second. Or check, maybe you need to type in correct digits in; Settings/Network/Advanced/Configure...

Read the user manual that came w/your Airport router or you can cross-post in one of the  AirPort Forums for instructions.
