Airport card shows no signal

Airport Express Card in ibook g3 was working perfectly then I took it out to test on an imac g4 then shows no signal on both of thr computer now.
Any suggestions, it picks up all the surrounding wifi signals but when I choose any ones, it says some error. Only difference is the bar shows no signal.

You may to check which channels the different wireless networks are on.
Your network needs to be at least three or more channels away.
So if the neighbour's network is on channel 6, ensure yours is on channel 1 or 11.
Use iStumbler to find which channels the networks are using.
http://www.istumbler.com/
It should be noted that iStumbler won't pick up closed networks.
In normal circumstances, I have my wireless router
SSID set to not broadcast, and it has operated
without any problems like this for a couple of years.
Closing your network can cause this issue, especially if the networks are on the same channel.
Where possible I would avoid closing (not broadcasting your network) if possible. A wireless network is still broadcasting and therefore detectable regardless of whether you broadcast the SSID (closed network) or not.
I have my Network Preferences settings to "join most
recently used available network" and to "remember
password."
Change this to join a specific network (if you are running 10.2), as once your Mac has joined your neighbour's network it will think you always want to join it.
Does this sound like an interference problem to
anyone?
Yes

  • Update--original Airport card w/ no signal

I have now been able to swap original Airport cards with a clamshell iBook and have determined that the "no signal" issue is with the PowerBook G4 Titanium 500 mHz or possibly the OS X 10.4.7 upgrade.
I had previously tried a Linksys 802.11b PCMCIA card and a D-Link 802.11b PCMCIA card in this PowerBook and had exactly the same symptoms--the card was recognized by the operating system, but no wi-fi signal was detected. I read some posts in this forum about PCMCIA card firmware version incompatibilities with OS X and wi-fi connectivity issues with PCMCIA cards after installing OS X 10.4.7, so I decided buying an original Airport card was best solution, and then found out that it doesn't work either!
Now I would like to find out if anyone has suggestions for resolving whatever issue I'm encountering. As I said in my earlier post, I've tried reseating the card and connector as well as unplugging and replugging the antenna connector. I've also tried pressing on the side of the battery compartment where the antennna is located. I haven't tried pulling the antenna out (don't know how difficult that is), but it's not visibly damaged. Probably not a related problem, but the DVD player doesn't work--it attempts to mount a disc but always fails.
Replacing the antenna might be an option; on the other hand, the PCMCIA cards didn't use the Airport antenna and they didn't work either, so I definitely wonder about a software issue.
When I got this machine I reformatted the HD, installed Tiger, and promptly installed all the updates through 10.4.7 before trying to set up wi-fi connectivity, so I don't actually know what effect the updates may have had.

Replacing the antenna might be an option; on the other hand, the PCMCIA cards didn't use the Airport antenna and they didn't work either...
Right — so it definitely isn't an antenna issue.
Is it possible that the network you're trying to connnect to is hidden? I know just barely enough about wireless networking to be dangerous, but I remember when I was setting my router up originally a couple of years ago, there was some option to cloak the network so it wouldn't be visible at all to unauthorized machines, or something like that. It was one of many security features, and I didn't opt to to use it because my router is several hundred feet from any road or other building and requires a password; I don't worry about anyone getting into my network without my knowedge.

  • Airport Indicator Shows No Signal on MBP

    Hi,
I'm using AirPort Extreme with my MBP and for some reason the little indicator on my screen shows no signal strength. When I right click on the indicator it says "AirPort Not Configured." However, I'm able to connect to the internet with no problem. Anyone know how to correct this problem?
I'm running the latest version of Leopard.
    Many thanks!

Is this the adapter that you have to plug in an HDMI cable, as well, as a connection for your iPad's charge cable?
If yes, try plugging in your iPad's charger cable and power/charging block into power while having the cable connected up to your iPad. See if this works with your TV then,
If still no joy, try unplugging and replugging the connector at the iPad to see if this works.
If STILL no joy, leave the cables plugged in and do a hard reset of your iPad by holding down together the iPad's Home button and Sleep button until your iPad screen goes dark bad boots up with the Apple logo, then let go of the buttons.
Also, what video apps are you trying to watch from your iPad to the TV?

  • Airport express shows low signal

To import music, as in the cd retrieves info from internet, I need at least 75% signal. Is there an easy way to increasy this signal (I have now less than 50%) without moving my IMAC next to the Airport? Or is spending another 200EUR, in addition to the 130EUR of the airport express the only solution.

Brick walls do not allow high radio frequencies to pass easily. So, the brick walls may very well be the problem. Is there any way you can position the router so that the signals don't pass through the brick?

  • New Mac Mini doesn't recognize airport card

I have a new mac mini, leopard, 1.8G c2duo, and have finally resolved some display issues. Now it doesn't recognize my airport card. Ideas?

If the airport card doesn't appear in the System Profiler (select 'About this Mac' in the Apple menu, then click the 'more info' button, then click 'Airport Card' down the left hand side) then the mini likely has a hardware problem and would be in need of repair/replacement. On the other hand, if the Airport Card shows up there, the system clearly can see the card, but it then means there is likely a problem with MacOS or a setting - in which case if you could describe the symptom (ie, where it is you are not seeing the card) then it may be possible to resolve.

  • IBook G3 airport card not finding networks

i have an iBook G3 that i have just put an airport card in, after installing the airport card it shows the card is installed but no networks have been found. i did some research online and it said to check the antena, make sure the card is inserted all the way, and to try and reset the PRAM (by pressing OPT,CMD,P,R during bootup) after clearing the PRAM it showed networks but when trying to connect to the networks it says their was a problem connecting and to retry. when i go to try and connect again the airport card shows that it can't find any networks. Are there any other ideas i should try or what could be the problem?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The iBook G3's original AirPort Card is not capable of handling encryption beyond WPA. It will not work with WPA2-encrypted networks.
Also, it needs a network that supports the 802.11b standard used by the original AirPort Card. If you are using a router, it needs to be set to mixed mode (b/g or b/g/n) in order for the original AirPort Card to access the network.

  • My airport card seem to have disapeared

    My airport card has disapeared?

Dose the airport card show up in System Profiler? (apple menu, about this mac, more info button, when system profiler opens click on Airport under Network.)
If Airport is not listed under system profiler you may want to try a SMC Reset, NVRAM Reset.

  • Airport card malfunctioning?

Need help please.  A couple days ago my router was cutting out more than it was working.  I was able to reset my router and get it going again and it has been working consistently now.  The next day my MacBook pro would not pick up any networks through the airport.  I normally see 15-20 listed.  Both my iPhone and iPad are still detecting all these networks.  I restarted my computer and discovered my computer was showing no airport card installed.  I found some advice online instructing to reset the permissions.  After doing this, I now have the airport card showing installed but it is still not detecting networks.  I have created a new location in the network and have gone into the hardware/library/preferences/system configurations and deleted the files, then rebooted to recreate.  I have also gone into keychain and deleted password info for my network to reset.  I have also reset the PRAM.  Still no networks are detected.

Still haven't found a solution, anybody have a suggestion?

  • Airport Express shows green, no signal.

So after finally moving into my new apartment, I decided to finally go wireless with my iMac G5 and my girlfriend's eMac G4. We practically skipped into the Apple store, purchased an Airport Express card and two airport extreme cards.
And then it all went downhill. I installed the Extreme card into my iMac and it picked up the signal instantly. Well, this was because the Airport Express was leaning against the unit. If I move the Express even one foot away from my Mac, the signal drops completely. There's nothing. The Express still shows "green" but the signal isn't getting to the iMac at all.
    Any thoughts?

Most likely problem - when you installed the Airport card into your iMac, you either (a) forgot to attach the internal Airport antenna cable connector to its socket on the Airport card, or (b) you did not FULLY push the connector into its socket, which takes a fair bit of force to do properly.

  • Good Signal, but not Internet with built-in Airport card

    Hi,
I'm sorry if this is a duplicate question, but I couldn't seem to find a similar situation. I'm trying to get my wireless (or any) Internet working at my house with my Powerbook G4 with a built-in Airport card. We have a Linksys 802.11g router with no security enabled. My mac is picking up a very strong signal, but everytime I go to Safari, iTunes, or Explorer it says there's no internet connection present (yet internet connect and my network says I'm connected through Airport).
I've had my wireless and ethernet working on this computer before -- picking up a variety of signals, including other linksys routers. All of the PCs in the house are working fine with this, and my mac even shows up on our router list.
The most recent experience I had with internet on my mac was earlier this week--i took it into my work to do some testing and we had to set up a specific location to get it to work through that ethernet network. When I took it home, I removed all of those configurations and tried both my wireless and ethernet, and I can not get either working. At this point, I've removed all of my configurations and tried reconfiguring. Everything but my airport is turned off. No proxies are selected. I've turned off the iPv6. I'm using DHCP (which is showing the correct router and IP address). I've deleted the System Configuration folder from Preferences. And it's on the top of the list in network and have selected Airport as the default. And none of this seems to be working. Oh, and I tested to see if it was a DNS problem (which I head read in one discussion forum), and that didn't fix it. I'm sure it's something simple that I'm missing. But I can't for the life of me get it to work.
Does anyone have any thoughts? suggestions? insights? help?
Please? I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what this could be.
    Thanks so much in advance.
    meg.

  • Airport card not picking up any signals after IP configuration changed

Just had cable internet installed in my apartment, and in the course of setting up the IP configuration for the built-in ethernet connection, my airport card has stopped recognizing wireless networks in my building. Before I changed these settings, the card was working, and there are several networks in the building that it recognized. Now, it recognizes none. The menu appears in the top bar, and I can turn the airport on and off, but it simply is not picking up any signals whatsoever.
I have tried a handful of tactics, including changing the Airport TCP/IP configuration in several different ways, rebooting several times, and even removing and reinserting the Airport card.
For info: I'm using an iBook G3 with OS 10.2.8. (I know, pretty old, but it's still chugging along...)
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure. What's strange is that the very same computer was picking up signals (not accessing them b/c they were all password protected), recognizing networks in the area at least, before I played with the other IP configuration settings. Now it picks up none. It shows that there are none in the area, even though I know that there are.
Also, often, when I click on the Airport icon in the menu bar, the computer hangs for up to a minute before the menu actually pops up.
I have an Airport Express unit that I have hooked up to the cable modem, and my Airport card won't even recognize that signal. I'm just not sure what I changed that made it go haywire. I've been using this computer on wireless networks for the entire time I've owned it. Never had this problem before yesterday.
Thanks for any additional suggestions anyone can offer.

  • I am connected to wifi, but the signal bars in my menu bar say that the airport card is not installed. Any ideas?

I just updated my mbp with the icloud update and now my wifi signal bars in my menu bar stopped working and say that there is no airport card installed. I am connected to the internet through wifi just fine and the system preferences says that I am connected, just weird that the menu bar signal stopped working. if there is no fix, is ther an alternate wifi signal bar that i can put up there?
    Thanks for the help.

  • HT1349 I have a Power PC G5 mac. It's Dual 1.8 GHz and has 1 GB DDR SD Ram. This mac has no wireless Airport Card. Where do I get one to install in the computer so that it is able to pick up wifi signal and how much is the cost?

I have an older Power PC G5 desktop mac. It has 1GB DDR and SD Ram and Dual 1.8 GHz. The problem is there is no wifi signal. I think I need an airport card to insert in order for this model to pick up wifi. How do I know which airport card to use?

Your Power Mac G5 had an option to have an 802.11b/g AirPort Extreme Card. You basically have two choices: 1) Search the Internet for vendors that still provide this card, or 2) Get a wireless USB adapter that supports both 802.11b/g, but also the newer 802.11n standard. An example of this USB adapter can be found here.

My airport show that the airport card doesn't install. How can I solve this symptom? It's usable 2 days ago.

Usually, if your Mac tells you "no AirPort card installed", it's because of power not properly being supplied to the AirPort card. Sometimes this symptom is related to hardware issues.
Reset the SMC of your computer. There are different ways of resetting, depending on the Mac you are using.

  • Just installed airport card but can't get a solid signal

a few weeks ago an electrical storm blew out my ehternet port. i consulted a mac genius at the apple store and decided to avoid replacing my logic board by getting an airport card and wireless router. After installing this business last night i was delighted to see full bars on the signal icon. but then it instantly dropped to two bars. then none. then a few minutes later back to two, full, none, etc. My computer and the wireless router are pretty much right next to eachother- i'm not splitting the cable between my machine and anything else (no other computers, not the tv). can anyone suggest what might be causing the signal problem? there's a major heatwave, would that cause problems? also, should i have looked into getting an aditional ethernet card instead? i'm desparately trying to avoid taking my machine out of my house (it's a desktop and i live in Queens so it's a b-tch to take into the city) so i'm really hoping to make this wireless buisness work. thanks so much!

One (or more) of the following must be true:
The antenna wire isn't properly attached to the AirPort card. Is this the original AirPort card or the AirPort Extreme card? If it is the AirPort Extreme card, use the photos in KB 108039, Properly attaching the antenna on an AirPort Extreme Card to verify that the antenna wire is properly installed.
