Airport Card won't connect after changing wireless networks

Hello,
I have a black macbook with an internal airport extreme wireless card. I use the computer at school and at home. Both school and home have functioning wireless networks in which other computers are connected and running with no problems.
When I open my laptop and wake it from sleep after changing from school to home or visa versa the airport card often will not recognize the wireless network. On many occations, even when the network is recognized it will not automatically connect to it (I have it set to do). A message saying "There was an error joining the network" comes up. The only resolution has been to reset the computer (which doesn't always work) or reset the PRAM.
Sometimes after reseting the PRAM the computer doesn't even recognize that I have an airport card installed at all. When this happens I have to reset the PRAM again to resolve it.
As a final note, when the computer doesn't automatically recognize the network and I click on the desktop wireless network icon, I get the "spinning beach ball" for a period of time before the drop down box with the available networks shows up. This seems strange to me because it shouldn't be a RAM issue as I have 2GB of ram installed on this computer.
Any help would be appreciated.

MacBook (Intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Try the following:
Delete Preferred Network(s)
- System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
- In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
- Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
- Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
- Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
- Restart, or log out then back in.
Add Preferred Network(s)
- System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
- In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
- Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
- Restart or log out then back in.
If you haven't already, you may want to consider creating a network location for each (school & home) with the appropriate network settings required for connectivity at each. For each location, you can set the preferred network.

  • AirPort Express won't connect to existing wireless network

I just purchased the current gen AirPort Express and it won't connect to my existing wireless network. My current wireless network is on a D-Link DIR-827 and it operates on both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz bands. My current gen Apple TV is connected to the D-Link wirelessly and it works fine. Basically all I want to do is have a pair of speakers attached to the AIrPort Express and stream music to it via AirPlay from all my devices. When I use the AirPort Utility, I keep getting the error that 'it's setup to join an existing wireless network but it can't find it.'  The light flashes amber and I can't connect to it. Right now I've setup a new wireless network for my AirPort Express but ideally I would like to have it join my existing network so all my devices can stream to it without having to connect to it seperately.
    Thanks,
    Ata

    Hi Ata,
...Right now I've setup a new wireless network for my AirPort Express but ideally I would like to have it join my existing network
If you already configured your AirPort to create a separate wireless network, it would be best to reconfigure it to "join" your existing network by starting over with a "hard reset": Press and hold the reset button and keep it depressed, continuously, about five to ten seconds, long enough for it to flash amber. Then, it will glow amber steadily for about a minute while it starts up, then it will flash amber slowly indicating it needs to be configured.
It will then appear in your Mac's Wi-Fi menu like this:
Select it. AirPort Utility will load and walk you through its configuration.
Be sure to select the option to "join" your existing network, and not create a new one. In that configuration, it will serve as a device for music streaming only, and cannot serve a wireless access point. For that, your router would need to be a genuine Apple AirPort Base Station.

  • Airport express won't work after changing wireless router

I used to have a Netgear router, but changed it last night for the o2 wireless router. But now I've lost my itunes airtunes connections on my airport express'. I cant locate the Airport Express Assistant despite having the CDs that came with the AEs.
Does anyone know where to locate a download for the Airport Express Assistant?

The utility wouldn't even detect the Airport Express, until it had been reset.

  • Touch won't connect to my wireless network

Sometimes my touch won't connect to my wireless network even though settings show it connected with good signal strength.  When I go to the main screen the signal strength icon (upper left) doesn't appear.  Any ideas?

    Try:
    - A reset. Nothing will be lost,
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Powering off and then back on the router.

  • ATV2 won't connect to my wireless network.

My ATV2 won't connect to my wireless network, although the network shows up in the list of networks and I'm using the correct password.  A laptop approximately 1 foot away connects wirelessly to the network.  ATV has worked in the past - haven't tried it recently.  Tried reset - didn't help.  Any suggestions?

If your wireless router is setup to use WPA or WPA2 security then you need to make sure you match this within your Apple TV device.
You probably already know to match case sensitivity in your password.

  • Won't connect to a wireless network that it sees

My iPad (iOS 6.1.3) sees my wireless network extender but won't connect to it. Just started today. Any ideas or remedies? I've tried unlearning the network and relearning. I've also done a reset, etc. nothing works. As I said, it sees the network but when it tries to connect, the little wheels just spin. BTW, it DOES see and connect to the main wireless router network fine.
    Thanks for any ideas.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Airport Express can't connect back to wireless network

Here's the situation. There was a power glitch in our neighborhood that knocked our linksys wireless router offline. We have since gotten that back up and running. Meanwhile, our 2 Airport Express (used for iTunes only) went yellow and wouldn't rejoin the network with a hard reset. I have been trying to do the factory reset. The lights do their 4 green blinks but when the Airport Utility (not Airport Setup Utility - is that gone?) tries to rejoin the expresses to our wireless network we get the following error:
AirPort Utility was unable to find your base station after restarting.
The settings for this base station have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the base station. You may need to select your network from the AirPort menu and try again.
I am confused. We are using WPA2 personal encryption and I have included that info in the Airport Utility so it's not a password problem. I am sure I'm missing something completely stupid.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Airport Express won't connect to my existing network!!

I purchase an Airport Express and I want to have it connect to my wireless network, but whenever it "restarts", I just get a message telling me that it can't find the Airport after restarting it. I typed in my router password(40 bit WEP), and it just doesn't work. Can anyone help me?

Unfortunately WEP has some password inconsistencies among vendor implementations. Try using the hexadecimal equivalent.
FYI 40 bit WEP is extremely weak. If your devices support it move to WPA2 or WPA. If you have some that don't support WPA or WPA2 at least use 128 bit WEP.

  • IPhone 5 won't connect to home wireless network

After updating to iOS 7 my iPhone 5 has been unable to connect to the wireless network in my home.  It will recognize it, ask me to input password, and then it will say it cannot connect.  I have shut the iPhone 5 on/off, turned on/off the wireless, turned on/off the bluetooth, and attempted to install the latest iOS update (but cannot because it won't let me unless I am connected to wifi).
I am having this problem with my MacBook Pro as well.

There is something wrong with your wireless router or network - especially if you have no problem connecting your iPhone and MPB with any other wi-fi network besides your own.
Have you tried resetting your wireless router and network in conjunction with the modem, and/or have you checked the manufacturer's website to see if there is a firmware update available for your wireless router model that has not been installed?
What type of encryption are you using with your wireless network - WEP, or WPA2?

  • My iMac g5 won't connect to a wireless network

I just got a new hard drive- and now I can't connect to our wireless network- all our other items are connecting so its not the router- thoughts?

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    10.4 instructions...
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.

  • NS500 won't connect to my wireless network. All apple network- including airport.

Tried WPS button and so-called manual setup.  After cable is unplugged thing goes ******.
    Any ideas?

    Hello Colleen,
Refer to the below link to manually setup the Network Speaker.
    http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C1027505
If you are using Macintosh, follow this link.
Disable the firewall in the Computer.
If there is no sound coming out of the Network speaker, there may be a problem with the network or there may be an incorrect setting. Follow these steps to try to resolve this issue:
       1) Make sure the volume of the speaker is up by pressing the VOLUME + button.
The sound of the Network speaker may have been set to silence by the controller for your system. If sound is output for a moment and then is silenced again, the speaker may have received a command to silence the sound. Confirm the setting of the controller and then change the setting so that the sound is not deleted.
        2) Check the AUDIO IN indicator on the back of the Network speaker.
If the AUDIO IN indicator is lit up green, the audio input setting has been selected and is active instead of the home network. Press the AUDIO IN button to switch the input to the Home Network setting. The indicator will go off once the Network speaker is connected to your home network.
    Regards,
    Colby

  • Airport express won't connect to cisco EA4500 network

So we had two airport's working nicely on an older Belkin wireless router, now I upgraded to the Cisco EA4500 dual band, and it won't connect.  One airport is only two years old.  I can reconfigure the settings for the new network but then it won't reset after saving settings thru airport utility.  I get a 6753 error message that it didn't reset.  After this, the computer will no longer recognize the airport, and I have to unplug the airport to get the computer to recognize it again.  Any thoughts?

    Hi Ata,
...Right now I've setup a new wireless network for my AirPort Express but ideally I would like to have it join my existing network

Be sure to select the option to "join" your existing network, and not create a new one. In that configuration, it will serve as a device for music streaming only, and cannot serve a wireless access point. For that, your router would need to be a genuine Apple AirPort Base Station.

  • Airport Extreme won't connect to hidden WPA network????

I have SSID broadcasting turned off on my ATT modem/wireless router so my network is hidden from my neighbors, but now my AEX won't join the network. No matter how many times I put in the network name and WPA pass, when the AEX reboots it has flashing amber and status is "...set up to join a specific wireless network that can't be found."
Can't be found? That's funny because 2 macs, a PC, an iPhone and a TiVo all found it just fine. What gives?
I want to have my AEX broadcast Airtunes to my Airport Express, and apparently the only way to do it is connect the AEX to the ATT router and then blah blah blah
Yes, I've triple checked that I'm entering the network name and WPA pass correctly. No love. Help! Thanks.

Thanks for your ongoing help, really appreciate it.
That's what I thought too. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be the case. My mac is connected to the network via an ethernet cable to the ATT router. The Express is connected to the network via the wireless network created by the ATT router. But my mac apparently can't communicate with the Express unless the mac and the express are both on the wireless network at the same time.
In other words, if I put my mac and the express on the wireless network being created by the ATT router airtunes works. But as soon as I turn off the airport on my mac (so it's now connected to the network via ethernet only) airtunes stops working.
I was hoping to get airtunes to work without having to connect my mac to the wireless network at all. I prefer to do the mac via ethernet since it's marginally faster and more reliable. Oh well, I guess I can just turn the airport on my mac on whenever I want to listen to music on the stereo via the mac.

  • Airport Express won't join my existing wireless network...

I have Broadband in my house. I have a wireless modem also. I have spent hours trying to have Airport Express join the network so I can use the music streaming feature, but I have so far not been successful. I have seen a lot of references to it being very easy and straightforward to set up with it doing most of the work itself. As in, plug in AE to a power socket, open Airport Utility and follow the instructions... It doesn't appear to be that simple, not by a long shot. Can anyone outline how this can be done in simple steps? All of the online steps I have tried do not work, with many of them referencing aspects of the Airport Utility GUI that don't seem to exist...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
For the record, I DO NOT want to replace my existing wireless router, i just want AE to join the network...
    Thanks...
    Ronan

I have the same problem - the AE wont join my Draytek 2600 wireless network. I can stream music wired, but it refuses to join the wireless network. I have tried WEP, WPA, WPA 2 etc. Always get amber flashing light. Ive spent about 5 hours solid on it so far, and I'm a networking expert.
No other device on the planet has problems connecting to my wireless. currently I have:
    1) Belkin wireless Skype phon (no problems)
    2) SOHO wireless IP camera (no problems)
    3) Intel Macbook pro (no problems)
    4) G4 Macbook (no problems)
    5) Dell D600 XP notebook (no problems)
Try to connect the AE? No chance. Its just broken.
I have tried every conceiveable manual setting on the device also.
If I manually set the ip (outside the DHCP range, but within the subnet), subnet, DNS sever, domain etc, I get a GREEN light, but nothing can communicate with it. The utility cant see it, and itunes cant see it.
The real problem is there is no way to know if the problem is with DHCP or the wireless. Does green light mean it has a wireless connection, or it has a valid IP?
Interestingly, if I start it with a wired connection, get a green light, then stream music to it, then pull out the wire, the green light stays, and music players for about another minute (presumably wirelessly, but who knows?) before the music stops and the device (replete with green light), becomes dead to the network.
APPLE desperately needs to sort this out. Its junk.
