Airport card working but can't connect to internet

hi all,
airport card (just plain airport card) is working and is connected to a verizon fios router. signal very strong. just can't connect to internet via safari, camino or firefox. running 10.3.9 os. i've rebooted twice to no avail.
altho, i can connect on my g4 powerbook using the same router.
why isn't the g4 flat panel imac connecting? any ideas?

In the Network system preference panel, is the wireless component
selected and in the list of items in the configuration the Mac sees?
You can drag the item(s) into preferred order of use, if there is more
than one, ie: dialup modem, ethernet connection, airport base.
If both computers have a similar operating system, it may be an
idea to look carefully into each, and not change anything in the
one which appears to work correctly; to look for differences.
Does the wireless router provide support for 802.11/b as well
as wi-fi 802.11/g? The older airport card runs on the older spec.

I have a friend's MacBook (white, 2GB RAM) that he needed the OS upgraded on. Before upgrading the OS (Tiger) the machine would not connect to the internet through Safari or though any of the OS components like System Update, etc (even though the Airport Card showed full signal). I upgraded his machine all the way to OS X Snow Leopard and it's still the same. You can log into the Network panel, the Airport Card sees the network but Safari and any other OS components that need the internet cannot connect.
    What's the problem and solution?

  • Airport is on and working, but can't connect to internet with MacBook

I have a green light on my airport Extreme, my laptop can join my network fine and get 4 bars of connectivity.
But I cannot get on the internet with my laptop. Websites don't work.
    What am I doing wrong?

Were you able to copy the DNS addresses to the MacBook? Were you able to delete the incorrect ones? Did you restart the MacBook before trying to access the Internet again?
How about the IP address for the MacBook? It should be in the address range of 10.0.1.2 - 10.0.1.200. Is it? Of course I'm assuming that you did not change the default DHCP range of your AEBSn. Your iMac should also be assigned an IP in this range.

  • AIRPORT: have bars but can't connect to internet

In the last week and a half, my MBP's Airport has been really weird lately.
I haven't updated anything aside from iTunes and I think Iphoto.
My airport would say it's connected and that it has full bars, but I can't connect to the internet
This doesn't just happen to my home connection but to my school's connection too.
I've tried creating new Airport by what people told me to do (+/-) etc... and this worked for a while, but then it stopped working OR it would work then drop my connection a couple hours later.
My connection is really bipolar at the moment. It's like one moment, I log on, and I have internet... then the next moment, I don't.
Anyone else having the same problem? Help.

    In System Preferences > Network > Airport/Wireless ...
... make certain Airport/Wireless is at the Top of the list. If not, there is a command accessible with the gear Icon under the box to re-order the list and put it there.
To get it to make up its mind more quickly, ask to join new Networks [√]  and on the ( Advanced | Airport/Wireless ) Pane, make sure your Home Network is listed and at the top of the list.
You are not using IPv6, ( Advanced | TCP/IP ) so turn it off.
If it continues to give you trouble, use the ( Assist Me ) button. If "diagnostics" does not give any satisfaction, use "Setup" to set it up again from scratch by answering the questions.

  • Computer is connected to network but can't connect to internet (Safari and Chrome), e-mail, App Store, ect.

My Macbook is connected to Wi-fi (four bars) but can't connect to the internet or any other services that requires internet. Other devices in my house have easily connected to the internet but every time I open Chrome it says: "This webpage is not available". What do I do?

Restart your internet modem and router and your Mac then try Safari etc.
If that doesn't help, try this DNS server ..
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
    Click + and type:
    208.67.222.222
Click + again and do the same.
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Try a browser.
if that doesn't help, check the firewall.  System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall > Firewall Options

  • Airport status at 3 bars but can't connect to internet

My 17" Powerbook is the only one of five Macs in the building that isn't able to connect to the internet with our Airport Extreme base station. The airport status icon shows 3 "bars" but will not connect. When we put the Powerbook within 15 - 20 feet of the base station, it works fine, but this is not practical.
If it matters, the other computers are a G4 MDD, an eMac, a 14"iBook and a G4 iMac "flower", all using a mix of older Airport cards and new Extreme cards. I have checked the Interference Robustness setting and it doesn't have any effect.

"When we put the Powerbook within 15 - 20 feet of the base station, it works fine"
So if I have this correct, when the powerbook is close it behaves normally, when it is moved away it still sees 3 bars, but will not connect. but other compouters have no problem.
it sounded like interference at first, but other computers ought to be similar on that point.
Can you see the other computers on the network when you can't get to the internet?
can you see the base station? (airport admin utility)
any other networks in the area?
handheld phones / microwaves nearby etc?
airport card seated properly in the powerbook?
If you restart does the connection return temporarily?
any encryption running? if so, turn it off and see if the connection returns after restart.

  • I can VPN into my work but can't connect to any devices inside that network

I authenticate fine and get an address but I cant connect to any devices inside my work.  I am connecting to Cisco Lan controllers, routers, and switches.
I thought it was a routing problem but I can connect with my iphone and open the webpage for my lan controllers and I even tested it on a pc laptop with Windows XP and it works fine.  I have a 2012 Macbook pro.  I prefer to use my Macbook all the time.  I haven't used my Windows laptop until today since I got the Mac.  Do you think I have the V-Word?

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. The purpose of this test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Networks seen by airport, but can not connect to internet

    Hello,
This is for a powerbook G4 running 10.5.8 that previously connected to our time capsule without issues. Recently, it stopped connecting to the internet although our two macbooks, phones, etc. have no problem.
It can see our network and also an open network and will "connect" with full signal strength but will not connect ot the internet. When running diagnostics it will come up with 'network change detected' and then will go through turn off modem and router and will then continue in a loop with turning off modem or router and not let me past the "network settings (yellow tab in front of network settings)" portion of network diagnostics. I've tried setting up a network and this did not work. I have also tried connecting to the time capsule which was not recognized either. I like the powerbook for traveling and since the ethernet source was fried years ago, it is pretty much useless without the airport functioning.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Once I had a very similar problem and took it to the Apple Store. I'm not entirely certain what they did, but I believe it was to remove some corrupted .plists. Maybe someone here would know which ones would be the relevant ones to look at.
In the meantime, you might consider one of these as a workaround:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/MXP2802GU2/
It's not the most elegant solution, but I have a couple of these and they seem to be very reliable, and cheap enough at the sale price.
    Good luck!

  • Am connected to wireless but can't connect to internet

I am connected to a wireless router (password protected). Full strength.  However, I cannot get onto the Internet, nor receive or send email.

what IP address do you have ?
(addresses in the 192., 172., and 10. range are "strictly private, so you are not revealing any secrets).
Addresses in the 169.254.xxx.yyy range are "self-assigned, and indicate you are not quite connected yet.
    http://17.149.160.49
does the above get you to Apple mainpage?
    does the below:
    http://apple.com
If the upper one works but the lower one does not, you have Domain Name Server (DNS) problems.

  • Connected to network but can't connect to internet using wireless

Hi, I just installed a Linksys WRT 45G and can connect my pc and my laptop to it and use the internet fine when I use ethernet cable, but if I try to use my laptop wirelessly I can't connect to the internet.  It says that I am connected to my network and that strength signal is excellent but no internet connection.  I have that bluetooth button on the front of the laptop turned on.  The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite with Centrino.  I was told that I don't need to buy a wireless card as the Centrino already does this.  Thanks in advance for your help.

I think you can try to update the firmware of the router, to check if that stops connection dropping. To update the firmware of router try this: 1. Go to www.linksys.com/download and select correct model number and version number. Download the firmware and save it on your computer. 2. Check the file it sould be firmware image file like .bin etc. If it is a compressed zip file extract it to get firmware image file. 3. Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. 4. Go to administartion tab there 5. Go to fimware update sub-tab there 6. Browse for the firmware image file and click update 7. when update completes turn off modem & router. 8. After 2 minutes turn on modem and after 2 more minutes turn on router. To get network key, connect your computer to one of the four ports on router using ethernet cable. 1. Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. Use your password if you have changed it earlier 2. Go to wireless tab. 3. Go to wireless security sub-tab 4. If security mode is wpa or wpa2 note down passphrase/shared key, if security mode is WEP note down wep key number 1. This will be your network key Well you need to input all the wireless settings of your wireless network on Wii. To get these settings: 1. Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. 2. Goto wireless tab. Here you will get the wireless network name/SSID. Here make sure wireless SSID broadcast is enabled. 3. Now goto wireless security sub-tab and here you will get the security mode and the security key. If security type is WPA note passphrase/shared key, and if its WEP note down wep encryption level and key 1 from listed 4 keys

  • Connected to WiFi but can't connect to internet

    Hi all,
My iPod touch is connected to my secure home wifi network, the wifi icon is displayed with 4 bars, and I can use some wireless apps like Remote for itunes. I can connect to the internet on my laptop, but not my iPod. When I try to use safari/itunes/app store I'm told the device is not connected to the internet. Up to today everything had been working fine, and I haven't changed any settings. MAC filtering on the router is not enabled, I've tried turning wifi off and on again on the ipod, resetting all settings and turning the ipod on and off again but still no connection.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Reset the router, did the trick. Had the wrong IP address ie. 169.xx... rather than 192.xx.. Resetting the wireless router remedied this.

  • Connected to network but can't connect to internet

I'm connected to the network but I can't connect to the internet.  The network is working fine since my Xbox live is working with no issues.  Any ideas?

I recomend turning off the router and the modem that you have and then turning them back on.
    If that doesn't work,
    Open system preferences > Network
Go down to the bottom of the window and click Assist me
A drop down window will come up and you want to click Diagnostics
It will take you through the steps

  • PC status reads connected, but can't connect to internet

I'm trying to connect my PC notebook to the Intel Mac with built in Airport. All systems seem to be on go; the signal strength on the Mac is at 100%, and the PC indicates the signal strength is very good, and the status reads connected. However, I can't connect to the internet on my PC.
The only indication of something troubling is the fact that the bubble next to AirPort is red in the Mac Network Status, but it indicates Airport is connected to the Computer-to-Computer network.
I have no idea what's wrong or how to get my PC to connect to the net, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

A computer to computer network can only be used for sharing files.
In order to share the internet you need to configure your Mac for internet sharing.
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet
Share connection from built-in-ethernet via Airport.
This will mean your Mac is operating as a software base station.
However there is a potential issue why I wouldn't recommend doing this.
You won't be able to password protect the network as Windows clients can not authenticate with an encrypted software base station wireless network.
My recommendation would be to purchase another wireless router (say Airport Express) and connect that to the modem.

  • NEED HELP, WIRELESS CONNECTED BUT CAN NOT CONNECT TO INTERNET

SOMEWHAT COMPUTER CHALLENGEDMY LINKSYS SAYS IT IS CONNECTED WITH GOOD CONNECTION, BUT I CAN NOT GET MY WIRELESS COMPUTER TO CONNECT TO INTERNET, BY HARDWIRED COMPUTER CONNECTS FINE. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WERE I NEED TO START?

If you want some input from Linksys you have to contact Linksys support. This is a community forum...
    Check the following please:
    1. The computer wired to the router has internet access.
    2. On the computer wired open http://192.168.1.1/ in your browser. The username remains empty the default password is "admin". You may have changed the password during initial setup.
    3. Click on Wireless. Take a note of the Wireless Network Mode (mixed, b only, g only), the Wireless Network Name, Channel, and whether SSID broadcasts are enabled or not. If you still have the default network name "linksys", please change it to something unique and save the settings for this page.
    4. Next, click on Wireless Security and note the settings in this tab. It will be easier for troubleshooting if you post the current wireless settings noted.
    5. Now use the wireless computer (if it was the one wired to the router before, unplug it) and let it search for wireless networks. It should find a wireless network with the "Wireless Network Name" from 3. Try to connect to this network. If it asks for a passphrase or key, you have to enter the passphrase from 4. for WPA/WPA2. If you have WEP encryption in 4. you have to enter "Key 1" not the passphrase!
    6. If the connection fails please posts the exact error message you see.
    7. If the connection succeeds, try to open a URL in the internet, e.g. http://www.google.com/
    8. If it does not work open a command prompt window: Start - Run... - "cmd". Enter "ipconfig /all". Copy the output of this command into your next post.
