Airport changing connections driving me mad

I take my mac Book Pro to many locations and it switches automatically never having caused an issue. Now at home it keeps jumping to one of my my neighbors secured connection.
Mine is on top in the list and the best connection.
It happens every few minutes or so.
Any help is appreciated.

Is this a bug or something? I can't seem to switch between my wlan and wap connections without hustle. I want to use wlan wheneva it is availible (at home and work) and use 3Geverywhere else but it seems I hv to delete my wlan to be able to use 3G (or the phone will tell u the wlan doesn't exist) and now when i reconnect the wlan, the phone still wants to connect using wap(3g) connection. i've tried changing destination priorities, or changing the defaults on the browser but it seems the device just wasn't put together properly.
With the N95, u'd always be asked to select whethr u wanted to use wlan or carrer's 3g why cant i have this?
This really is a rip off from Nokia considering the price and the alternatives they are on the market. Why aren't we benefiting from paying so much for the device?

Have you put the WLAN in the destination for Internet and others?
Have you assigned WLAN the correct priority?
Have you checked that your data settings are correct and that they're also in the right destinations?
Have you checked the settings in the browser and each individual app to check that the correct DESTINATION and not a specific access point is selected?
640K Should be enough for everybody

  • Can't connect - driving me mad!

    Hi,
I'm asking for help on behalf of my Mother-in-law, who can't sign into Skype.
She uses a MacBook running OS X 10.6.8 (done a full software update). When she tries to sign in to sign into Skype it either says 'Skype can't connect' or says that the username and password have not been recognised.
I've reinstalled Skype and reset the password, but it still says the username and password have not been recognised.
I've also tried logging in from my computer (Macbook Pro running Yosemite) and it still says the username and password have not been recognised. Very confusing.
In her panic, my mother-in-law has set up three other Skype accounts associated with the same email address. I wonder if this has anything to do with it.
Any tips would be much appreciated.

oh man, i am having the exact same issues. Since i updated to the newer version things have been going haywire and i havent been able to sign in. i can sometimes get access via facebook but it seems buggy and im not sure what to do. i suspect my system requirements have changed since i have upgraded my skype but am a bit lost as what to do about it. i am on a mac PC.

  • Connection driving me mad.. Please help

So to say I'm frustrated at my connection would be an understatement. Moved address so went from a 20meg connection to what was nearly 5meg... I have been downloading my backup from livedrive for weeks now. Anyway no extension sockets are here just the master which I got fitted in the office/study I have here so I could run my router via Ethernet. So my main rig is using the wired connection whilst things like my TV, Laptop and mobile phones are running wireless from the Hub 4.
To try and get a little extra from my connection I decided to get the BT accelerator and give that a go. So I just installed it and my connection has lost nearly a meg in sync speed
DSL noise margin: 22.00 dB upstream, 6.00 dB downstream
DSL line rate: 448 Kbps upstream, 4064 Kbps downstream
Something seems to be limiting my upload speed or is this normal? Also you think my BT accelerator is faulty?
Waiting on Infinity which can't come quick enough.. Was meant to be available from end of August but still waiting.... My exchange is Warrington and I'm on cab 30 if that helps?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi CuReLeSsVeNoM,
Your on the ADSLMax (upto 8mbps) line modulation, which gives a max upload speed of 448kbps (0.45mbps).
So anything from 0.1mbps to 0.45mbps is an acceptable upload speed for this service.
Is your exchange BTW 21cn upgraded (which allows ADSL2/2+)?
    Check by going here: www.samknows.com/exchange_search
or seeing if your exchange is on the BT Wholesale 21cn spreadsheet here: https://www.btwholesale.com/pages/static/Library/Network_Information/21CN_Broadband_Availibility/ind...

  • What is the problem with fonts changing to myriad pro? Is this problem ever going to be resolved? Its driving me mad!

What is the problem with fonts changing to myriad pro? Is this problem ever going to be resolved? Its driving me mad!

    Browser Dog, Amy,
The default font remains Myriad Pro until you change it, either in the RGB/CMYK Startup files or in the preferences, options depending on versions.
Concerning missing font names, I believe this may solve it:
Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.
It was first presented in this post #15 by TheUlser:

Hi, I've used four different Groups when emailing for the past few years, and suddenly they have stopped working. I've tried creating new Groups but that doesn't work either. I haven't changed or done anything different and it is driving me mad......can anyone help, please?!

    Thanks for that information!
I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

  • Airport driving me mad...please help!!

I recently got a macbook and an airport to connect to the internet. Some days it works fine but some days for no apparent reason the macbook just doesn't find the airport. There are other computers connected to it and they work fine so it must be the Macbook. I've experienced the same problem at school and places where I know I should be able to find 7-8 connections usually. Some times it works again after a simple restart and some times it can take hours before it works again. Please help!
(I apologise clumsy description, I'm not a computer person at all)
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

There are multiple threads on the exact same topic, but anyhow, here's a possible solution that i posted in some of the others:
A guy I e-mailed with last night who had the exact same problem as I described above seems to have stumbled upon a possible solution to the problem!
He downloaded the 293 mb Combo Updater (Intel) found here: http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty2.pl/product=11797&cat=1&platform =osx&method=sa/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.8Intel.dmg
He had taken a look in /Library/Receipts and found that the previous update by Software Update was only about 9 mb big, so he tried this update and his problem disappeared!
My own airport has mysteriously started working again as well, but I installed the update just to be sure.
I hope it works out for you guys!
Creds to Brad Price for the (possible) solution.

  • Airport Express Connection to 2WIRE 1000HW HomePortal?

New to the Mac world. My MacBook is currenly wirelessy connected using my 2WIRE 1000HW HomePortal. Connection is good but I need to connect a printer wirelessly (through the AE USB connection). The 2WIRE 1000HW is a combination DSL Modem and Wireless Router in one box. Do I need to 'disable' the wireless router portion of the 2WIRE 1000HW and use it just as a DSL Modem, or can I just use the AE and 'join' the existing 2WIRE router? OR would it be better to use the AE as the wireless router? The 2WIRE has an ethernet connection in back. What is the best connection (AE > 2WIRE ethernet)? Do I need to change anything in the 2WIRE or AE settings? Will there be a conflict wireless routers? Thanks!

dijman, Welcome to the discussion area!
Do I need to 'disable' the wireless router portion of the 2WIRE 1000HW and use it just as a DSL Modem, or can I just use the AE and 'join' the existing 2WIRE router?
    Either way.
Do I need to change anything in the 2WIRE or AE settings?
If you have the AirPort Express (AX) join the wireless network provided by the 2Wire then no changes need to be made to the AX.
Otherwise you will need to make changes to both.
Will there be a conflict wireless routers?
Not if the AX joins the wireless network or you disable the 2Wire wireless and connect the AX via Ethernet.

  • I've had a new hard drive installed and reloaded all my stuff via time capsule and now can't connect to the internet although it say Airport is connected. How can I fix this problem ?

Just had a new hard drive for my iMac and reloaded all my stuff via time capsule, all works fine apart from Safari which won't connect to internet. Airport is connected but each time Safari comes back saying there is no connection....any help gratefully recieved.

So you have the apple rotuer called a time capsule  and you have complete the frist time machine back up? but there is not internet access ?
    If so.
Opem airport utiltiy on your Comptuer :
What is the IP ? > if its 169.254.xx.xx > its a self assigned
Try power cycling the Internet source  for up to 1 mintue and make sure all the lights  turn off.
    In Airport Utility Version 5.5.3 / 5.6.1
Gi > Intenret > conncetiong sharing > Is it off  bridge mode change it to share a public Ip address
    In airport Utility  version 6.0/6.1
Edit > network > rotuer mode : Should be DHCP and NAT unless you use PPPoE to conecnt to the internet then this is automatically invoked.

  • Airport Extreme Connected to Internet, Yet No Longer to Powerbook G4

Airport was connected over a cable modem to the internet just fine until last night.
It stopped working--no browser or email.
I can still connect fine directly from the cable modem though.
Internet Connect seems to think I have a strong connection, but my applications (browser, emails) disagree.
I've been accross the internet and back trying to solve this.
    I've tried:
    a) Apple>System Preferences>Network shows:
"Airport is connected to the network <<my network name>>. You are connected to the internet via AirPort"
    b) Apple>System Preferences>Assist me>Assistant
    (or Applications>Utilities>Airport Setup Assistant) shows:
"Congratulations! Your Airport Extreme is configured to connect to the Internet and share a USB printer. If you use a cable modem to connect to the Internet, you may need to turn the modem off, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on."
Internet Connect then, still, shows a strong signal level and status reads: "Connected to <<my network name>>. Connected to the internet via Ethernet."
    c) Apple>System Preferences>Assist me>Diagnostics:
    Airport works
    Airport Settings = failed
It then wants me to reboot the device (i.e., I think, the modem or whatever else isn't sending a singnal to the computer).
I tried this but again, the modem works fine .... it seems to be somewhere between the PowerBook and Airport Extreme that is the problem.
    d) I've tried with no success downgrading from Airport Extreme Firmware V5.6 to V5.5.1
    e) With no success I've reinstalled from CD the Airport Extreme software V4.2
    f) With no success I've selected "Enable interference robustness" thinking perhaps another network in the building was interfering (airport seems to recognize another airport but iStumbler doesn't seem to).
    g) I've messed with Apple>System Preferences>Network>Configure so much now that if there was anything that isn't broken, it probably is now.
I've taken a crash course in AirPort over the last 24 hours (and failed) and have soft (5 seconds) and hard booted (30 seconds?) this thing so many time .... I'm ready to, you know, boot it out the door next (it has a nice aerodynamic shape I've come to really appreciate in the last several hours).
I know there is something I'm doing wrong, overlooked, or haven't tried.
    Any thoughts????
    Thanks in advance,
    Jayson
    PowerBook G4 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Jayson,
It sounds like your airport needs to be changed to no longer distribute IP addresses the way it is currently set to do. Go to the airport setup, make note of settings as you go (shift + command + 4, select area with "crosshair" cursor and let go to make a pdf of the screen, selected area, print the pdf in PREVIEW if you want to save yourself the time writing them down!), and MAKE SURE YOU ONLY CHANGE WHAT YOU UNDERSTAND and are sure of. Sorry for yellin'!
In the airport settings (sorry, I'm retrieving from my organic grey/white matter memory here), I believe there is a place in the internet tab for changing the APX to no longer distribute IP addresses, or to share single IP's, etc. If you wish, try to see if toggling off the distribution, rebooting (not resetting) devices, and starting up the computer allows a "tunnel" through the modem.
Many cable/DSL modems are firmware-set to ALSO distribute IP addresses, so the two devices (modem and airport) are constantly sending packets back-and-forth, handshaking endlessly and the most recently "shaken hand" is the device distributing addresses.
The problem arises here (or, at least this is one case I am describing in which your symptoms match up closely) since your computer sees the packets, the web traffic and "open door," etc., but it is somewhat like thinking a window is a door. You can see out of it, verify the "door" by looking outside, but the lock is on the OUTSIDE (the modem), locking you in, with your airport sitting idly and thinking that you can get out since it is essentially letting you have a distributed IP address...it's all rather like the mom from "Carrie" or something...you and your dirty pillows. Stay inside the closet for now-- yeah, right.
If shutting of distribution in your airport still allows the computer to connect as wired to the LAN port and your modem still plugged into the airport's WAN port (after saving airport settings and rebooting all devices, computer LAST, airport a few minutes after the modem), you are even more likely to be in this aformentioned battle of the handshaking devices.
If so, find out from manuals/manufacterer's online notes/good state-side non-Apple tech help (and other fictional situations) if the cable modem can be set to not act like a router, and more like a modem by just giving one DHCP address, or static address if you must, and not conflicting with a router. Don't say airport unless you must-- so many tech-help places quote the crapola cop-out that Apple isn't compatible or something. Most of the time, cable modems only require the fairly universal web packet compatibility, and the mac/airport does the rest. Very few modems, especially from a large broadband provider, will prevent you from using an airport or a mac. The few I have seen were firmware issues with older, rather ready-to-be-shot DSL modems that should have been doorstops or clay pigeon surrogates a long time ago.
If you can play around (with guidance) and reset the modem to simply get an IP, send it to the router (that is, the airport), and then let the airport do the distribution, all you have to do is switch the airport back to distributing a range of addresses-- I like the 10.0.1.x selection, but I find the last of three choices (something like 169.x.x.x) to occassionaly be the magic x-factor bullet from Narnia that makes the bells ring and your airport finally wired AND wireless.
Before you heed any "advice" I may be stating, do some googling regarding the topics I mentioned, since NOBODY is all-knowing or perfect in ANYTHING, and I don't want your problems to be worse. Exhaust all other sources of information that you may have, but the above prattling was from my troubleshooting an endless stream of constant problems with a similar setup, and it may help you. Reply if you wish and I'll add more if you want.
Sorry if I'm writing like a monkey *(&%% a football on an icy pond. I'm juggling a few upgrade jobs on my workbench, and listening to the new INXS album from itunes, so I'm a little geared up. BEST OF LUCK! Happy holidays, whatever they may be for you.

  • How can I get airport to connect automatically to wireless network?

I temporarily switched from a DSL internet provider to a cable provider, and then back to my old DSL Internet provider. My g5 iMac computer connects to the network through a wireless Belkin router.
Since I switched Internet providers, every time I turn on my computer, it no longer automatically connects into the wireless network. Instead, to connect I now have to manually select the network.
I'd really appreciate tips on automating this step. My kids use this computer and due to parental restrictions, they do not have rights to connect to the network.

    Hi there,
Strictly speaking changing how the internet is coming into the wireless router should not affect the wireless and how machines connect to it, but however to get you out of a hole I would say create a new Location for your home and start again.
Basically,Disable your wireless first, then in your network settings there is a drop down box at the top of the panel where you can change and create new locations. Create a new one, then select it and click Apply. Now enable your airport and connect to the wireless, once that is done you should be good to go.
    Hope that helps,

  • Airport card connected but safari not connected to internet

Running os 10.4.1 on IMAC g5 with airport card.
i am having some wireless network issues. when i try to connect to the linksys router that my airport card locates it tells me that i am connected to the network; but when i try to load a page in Safari it tells me that i am not connected to the internet. Internet Explorer gives me the same message.
i have been able to test my airport card by logging into another (neighbor's) network (just for testing). it received DHCP from that router and assigned a 198.162.x.x. IP address for my computer. i originally had the same issue as far as being connected but safari wouldnt open web pages. i manually plugged in DNS numbers 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 from OPEN DNS.com and Safari instantly loaded web pages.
when i try to do the same on the linksys network my airport card connects but Safari once again will not connect to the internet. I am receiving a DHCP IP address automatically from that router but cannot connect to the internet...
PLEASE HELP ME (it's driving me crazy!)

Oh man... since my last post (all of 15 minutes ago) my iMac now cannot connect to the network at all. The network status menu widget shows it as being connected (sometimes), but it can't actually connect to anything.
Just as an experiment, I turned off MAC address filtering on the base station. Didn't help.

  • Airport not connecting

Having a problem with my airport, cannot connect to the internet wirelessly. It is not a distance problem as a laptop sitting right next to it registers three out of five bars and works perfectly. Been having this problem for several months, at first the connection was just dropping off and not working on occasion but every softwear update since then seems to have made it worse and worse. Now my internet does not work at all although it seems to pick up the signal but not connect. Any help fixing this would be appreciated, have tried a number of fixes and been through every used every help tool for connection issues available in the network preferences menu. I have several other issues with this mac however I use it for work and cannot afford for it to be away for repair at the moment. My other issues include dead pixels, optical eye doesn't work (cannot read any type of disc, DVD, softwear disc, CD you name it) And some form of leakage on the top left hand side of the screen that cases a shadow on the display. Has anyone else had problems like this? I love this mac like a baby so its not a chase of rough handling or not looking after it properly. This is my first mac and I can honestly say I am very disappointed by the quality of the product after all the good things I've heard about apple.

    hi,
your problem is not with the airport, it is how you have configured it,you need to check system pref. and make sure you eleminate all security first, you can do this also in the internet connection app as well, this sounds like a firewall issue/

  • AirPort Express connected to an iPod Hi-Fi; iTunes can't find the speaker.

    Hi,
I've been trying to get my Hi-Fi to show up in iTunes via an AirPort Express connected to a MBP without much success..
First I had some trouble connecting the Express to my exisisting wireless network (Wireless-N ADSL2+ Gateway WAG300N), but once I changed the WEP key to a correct lenght I got it working (green light on the Express). Actually I'm not quite sure that it's working as intended, the Express won't show up in the Aiport utility, only in the advanced setting of my wireless network (system preferences -> network). Is it supposed to show up in the Utility even though it's connected through my existing wireless network?
I have both and optical and a 'regular' (English is not my first language cable and I've tried both, but the speakers won't show up in iTunes. I've got iTunes looking for external speakers so that shouldn't be the problem.
    Any ideas?

Try setting-up AE as if for the first time (perform a hard-reset of the AE).
This time, however, DO NOT connect the AE to your router initially. Connect it directly to your computer via ethernet cable when setting-up. Airtunes should now be enabled (this will not happen if you initially set up AE with AE connected to your wireless router).
