Airport choosing network during computer start up

Initially, my computer would choose my network at home associated with my airport base station automatically when I turned it on. Now everytime I have to manually choose it after startup because it does not auto go to any. Not serious, but curious about what I did to cause this and I prefer it the way before. Thanks in advance everyone.

  • Application Manager requires sign in during computer start

Each time I turn on my computer, Application Manager loads up and requests a sign in. I thought my creditials are saved locally so that I wouldn't need to sign in--this is done automatically. What if I was not connected to the Internet, yet still needed to use the Creative Suite products? How would that work if I couldn't sign in?

Does this solution also work for Win7? Also I can't find the "caps" folder where the media.db file is supposed to be. Obviously there is a different file path for Win7.

    Hi Adaptive Pixels,
The "opm.db" file has somehow become corrupted and you system and is not able to save it properly. Can you try deleting that file and ensure you have read and write permissions on the folder containing it?
Please delete the "opm.db" file found in:
    on Mac: <yourusername>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE
If you're not familiar with how to navigate to hidden files/folders on your computer:
on Mac: Use the "Go to folder" item in the "Go" menu in the Finder and enter "~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE" (without the quotes). Delete the opm.db file.

  • I want to upgrade my old airport express to the new express. Can I just switch out the old for the new or must I delete the old network first and start from scratch with the new express?

I want to upgrade my old airport express to the new express. Can I just switch out the old for the new or must I delete the old network first and start from scratch with the new express?

It is not necessary to delete your old wireless networks first, but doing so may eliminate confusion. If you wish to do that, open System Preferences > Network, and select Wi-Fi from the left column. Click the Advanced... button, then select your old wireless networks and delete them with the "–" (minus) button. Make sure the "Remember networks this computer has joined" remains checked.
    OK then Apply.
This prevents your Mac from searching for your previous network which will no longer exist.
A new Express creates an open wireless network that you must select before you can configure it. It appears in your Wi-Fi menu like this:
Select it. AirPort Utility will load and walk you through its configuration.
Edit: If you are really using OS X 10.5.1 as shown in your profile, the above screenshot is not applicable. Instead, select the network called "Apple network nnnnnn" and then launch AirPort Utility.

  • How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme? My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured" and my AirPort tool on my PC will not permit me to add my new Airport Extreme network (no network names to choose from)

How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme?
I have a PC running with Win7 and just replaced my Jensen With a brand New Airport Extreme.
I have set up the Airport Extreme to the internet, Iphones and Ipads and it work as it should.
I have downloaded latest Version of Airport tool on my PC. In addition i have downloaded the airport tool for Ipad.
I have reset one of my airport Express and it now shows up both on the Ipad and on the PC airport tool.
My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured."
I have wired the airport Express to my Ethernet to be able to "see it" on my Airport tool.
My AirPort tool on the PC will not permit me to add the airport Express to my new Airport Extreme network (no network names on the drop-down list to choose from). I wished for an easy set-up, but nothing seems to be plug and play as the Commercial says.. can you please help me?

    Hi
    Thanks for Swift reply.
Yep - I in fact have two A1088 and one A1264
I actually bought the new router because the Jensen
router always lost connection to the Airport Express after some hours or days. I
always needed to restart my Jensen to play music and that was driving my wife
mad. The hope was that the Extreme should fix this. Both A1088 have been set up
to only stream music to two of my stereo amplifiers from my PC’s Itunes library.
    Are the A1088 now useless?
The A1264 has been set up to feed internet into a Denon Reciever that needed Ethernet cable.
    Please advise

  • When I reopen my computer (macbook pro) it connects to my dsl connection and not to my airport extreme network that I created

I purchased yesterday an airport extreme, everything works fine, but the thing is that when I close my laptop (just shutting down the screen) and then reopen it, instead of conecting to the airport extreme network I created, it connects to my DSL connection. Is this normal? Do I have to keep entering my own airport extreme network after I close/shut down my computer? Thank you very much

Hi Bob, I solved it, it had to do with the preferred networks. But thanks anyways!

My computer is recognizing my airport express network at first but then slips to an exclamation mark. I have followed the steps to reset everything and it ends up keeping me on a loop of asking me to rest everything after I do so. network is recognized on list along with all my neighbors. Any help would be greatly apprectiated.

    System Preferences > Network
WiFi/Airport should be at the top of the list.
    Select WiFi/Airport
[√ ] Ask to Join new Networks
    click ( Advanced )
In the WiFi/Airport pane, remove ALL other networks except your home Network. (This will keep your computer from "wandering off" onto a neighbor's Network.)
You are not done until you close the windows and Save Changes.

Run Airport Utility, Manual Setup, Advanced button, Logs and statistics, Wireless Clients.

broadcasting strength was fine, but, web pages had

someone have been leeching on the network?
Sure, if you made a more secure password, that is quite possible. Minimum recommendation is the following:
    1. use WPA
    2. use a password with no word from ANY dictionary
    3. use a password that is a combination of letters (upper and lowercase), numbers and special characters
    4. use a password at least 12 characters long.
Better yet, use a "strong" password generator, such as the one at:
    https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm

  • Connect USB drive automatically at computer starts

    Hi Apple fans
I recently upgraded my home network with a 1TB 2.5' external hard drive plugged into my Airport Extreme, which we use at home to store files and more importantly as Time Machine HD for backup.
the trick is when a computer starts (both a iMac G5 and a Macbook are on the network), I need to manually connect to the hard drive for the OS to mount/recognize it and Time Machine to be able to run backups.
Is there a command or even a script which will execute this automatically so when one computer starts the HD on the Airport USB mount automatically in Finder? thanks for any suggestions

    Hi Jolly Giant
Ever since the Airport Extreme 802.11n exists i used wireless HD storage, and lately used it as Time Machine backup. Never had (fingers crossed) any issues, the Airport Setup is quite handy to setup access and password for USB connected HD on the AP Extreme.

  • DI-624 Wireless Router - Airport Extreme network tips

I have had problems with my D-Link DI-624 (rev.c) wireless router with WPA encryption ever since the recent AirPort updates, so I decided to post a solution in the hope that this may help someone who is also having the same issue.
This also might help people having issues with other older D-Link wireless router products. I've been using a couple of 624 models for about 4 years, and they're generally very good routers for their generation.
    *The problem:*
I was experiencing wireless connection drops using WPA-PSK with the AES cipher on an Intel Mac Mini (late 2006) - Airport Extreme AND a PPC Mini. The minis are about 30 ft away from the router, through several walls.
I would get a connection drop randomly, maybe once every 15 minutes when the connection wasn't being used. I would have to disable airport, then enable it for a connection to the network to be re-acquired. This really annoyed people on IM, as I'd bounce on and off-line intermittently!
    *The solution:*
    - Use the latest firmware for the router (August 2006 - 2.76)
    - Use WPA-PSK on the router for security (I do not recommend WEP because of the ease and speed of cracking WEP keys)
    - IMPORTANT: Use TKIP cipher, not AES
    - Disable Wireless Super-G (you can experiment later on if you have a "known good configuration")
    - Disable 'extended range mode' (allows connections < 1megabit, useless for me)
    - Change router wireless channel to 1 (for me, to avoid interference with other duelling wireless networks on channel 11)
I can't use WPA2 because I have a couple of Sony devices which do not support WPA2. I believe that if you don't have these devices, it might be better to use WPA2 with TKIP.
So, here's my 2 cents - hope it helps someone! If it does, reply to this thread.

Properly configured, the AirPort should provide both wired and wireless network client with Internet access.
At this point, I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Mail.app and Airport home network

I have DSL connected from modem to Ethernet on my iMac desktop, and I share its Internet connection using the built-in Airport with Personal Web Sharing activated. I can use the Internet connection flawlessly by connecting my MacBook to the iMac home network. However, I can't receive or send e-mail with the Mac OS X Mail.app using the network connection. If I plug in the Ethernet cable from the modem directly to the MacBook, I have no problem with e-mail.
Is this situation normal? Is there anything I can do to fix it?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I believe you must go to System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall on the computer that shares its Internet connection and enable the ports needed by Mail by clicking on the New button, choosing Other from the Port Name popup menu (so that you can name that setting however you wish), and specifying the port number(s) there.
Also, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list on each computer.

  • Airport Base & Network + Ethernet Network

I have 3 intel iMac G5 machines & one 17" iMac, G5 non-intel. We have Verizon DSL, and on the House network, I have a wireless machine and an ethernet machine connected to the Verizon wireless DSL modem. These two machines see each other; we iChat, we network connect; it's all good.
I installed an intel imac out in an office building on our property probably 30 yards (and many thick, old walls) away, and couldn't get a good signal from the Verizon wireless modem out to there.
So, I ran an ethernet cable out to the office, but the darn ethernet port on that machine appears to be bad (I checked out the discussions forum and unfortunately it seems that when an imac is not recognizing a perfectly good cable, it is a hardware problem.) So, I bought an Airport Base Station A1034 and plugged it into the ethernet cable I had run out to the office and now have 2 computers on their own little Airport network out in the Office. They obviously see each other just great.
I was going to use the old non-intel mac out there in the office as sort of as a server so we can all access docs from a central place. It also joins the airport base network, but I can't see it from my computer on the (House) Verizon wireless network.
However, I don't know how to make the two networks see each other or how to combine them.
(I tried Dropbox and it's not very good for an accounting program file - we have had all sorts of issues with which is the last updated copy that got uploaded, etc. We all hate it.)
    Please help.
    -Linda

Actually, I was just plucking around and tried the following:
Under Airport Utility, I noticed that on my computer, which is not on the Airport network, I could see the base station (I had tried to set up this computer to run through the base station, but since it's so far away, my signal was bad, so I went back to ethernet). I was clicking around looking and under Manual Setup/Access Control, choose MAC Address Access Control - LOCAL, and then hit the + mark bottom left to add one, and hit This Computer and it assigns a local address to my machine, and now I can see the outside office computer on my DSL ethernet network. Lucky guess.

  • I have just acquired an iMac desktop. I want to sign on to my airport wireless network, but cannot remember the password. How can I access the password or reset it. I already use a MacBook Pro and an iPad on the network.

I have just acquired an iMac desktop (about 4 years old). I want to connect to my Apple airport wireless network, but cannot remember the password. How can I access the password or, if necessary, reset it. I already use a MacBook Pro and an iPad on the network and don't want to jeopardize what already works well. I am not all that computer literate.

How can I access the password or, if necessary, reset it.
Read the user manual that came w/your Airport router or you can cross-post in one of the  AirPort Forums for instructions.

  • Bluetooth no longer loads automatically when the computer starts

I have the Bluetooth Stack version 2.01.21.1. It was working fine. When the laptop booted up, the bluetooth mouse was automatically connected.
All of a sudden the icon no longer appears automatically in the system tray and so I have to manually connect the mouse each time
It is still listed in the startup menu on the desktop and it is still checked in startup in the msconfig.
    How do I fix this?
    Thanks in advance

I have just gotten off the phone with a microsoft tech who actually seems to have fixed this somewhat
He went to start/run to get to services.msc.
He chose "SSDP Discovery Services" which "enables discovery of
UPnP devices on your home network" and DISABLED it.
    Go figure
The BT icon now appears in my system tray and starts up automatically when the computer starts.
I say somewhat because It still disconnects if left idle for a long period, which it did not do previously, but at least it is there when I log on.
I want to mention that I have a Dell, not a Toshiba (did not realize this forum was for Toshiba laptops rather than Toshiba software) but perhaps
you will find this information useful.
Also, at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx you will find an autorun tool that lets you fix what is or is not
in the startup menus. It seems to work better than using msconfig which on my laptop was not making a difference as to what started up and what did not.
It is meant for IT professionals so I would not mess with it too much. However if you just check or uncheck in the startups for the BT manager you will
    not do any damage.
