Airport connected to internet but not putting out wireless

Hey there,
Have a G5 connected directly to an airport extreme that is connected to the internet just fine. Not the new generation airport extreme.
My POWERBOOK G4 is not showing a wireless signal at all and usually does. I checked the powerbooks system preferences, network, airport status and it says, "Airport is connected to the network. Airport has a self assigned IP address and may not able to connect to the internet." The airport is connected to the airport because my G5 is directly connected through it.
This set up has worked before but I'm not sure when it stopped because I haven't been using my powerbook for some time.
Both computers are running OS 10.3.9 Both can connect to the internet directly through the airport. All the setting are set in the airport set up.
Anyone have any idea how to get this wireless set up back up and running ?
thanks,
tnixer

Okay, looking at the Airport Admin Utility.
INternet> configured manually (won't work automatic)
Network> Distribute IP address is checked.
And Share a single address is checked. Use 10.0.1.1 adressing is selected
IF I uncheck "Distribute IP address" then Airport can't connect to the internet.
I can't get Share A Range of IP address to even take the number I type in.
The thing of all this is it used to work.
One thing that happened is I tried a different internet provider, didn't like, changed back to my usual service. Maybe that is when this started because like I said I haven't tried using my powerbook for a while so I'm not sure.
In any case it seems like its just a matter of settings since this set up has worked for years.
Maybe sharing my settings with give some clues ?
thanks,
tnixer

    hi
i have some problam in my laptop in connecting for internet but not open for broswer and not update for software  tell the solution

    Hi @jerry3 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Notebook and not getting to the Internet. First try just to reset the router. Unplug from the power wait a few moments and plug back in.
Can get to safe mode with command prompt? F11 upon startup choose safe mode with Networking.
Can you get to the Internet in safe mode?
Please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Airport express connects to internet, but not print server

hello all. i hope someone can help me with this. 2 days ago, my wife was able to print using her ibook/airport expess setup. today, the network diagnostics has this message: "network diagnostics was able to connect to the internet but not to the server EPSON Stylus CX3800.pdldatastream.tcp.local. this could be caused by problems with the server, or an internet problem between this computer and the server." she says this happened when she turned it on. what could be causing this? any and all help welcome. mcrat

You can reset the AirPort Express (AX) following the directions in Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ.
Then you can use AirPort Utility on your computer to configure the AX.

  • IPad shows airport connected to Internet but no connection to internet on my MacBook

I have an airport express connected to my tp link modem, my iPad mini connects to the net, airport utility shows a connection between the airport and the internet, but on my mac book air the utility shows no connection between the airport and internet

Alright, so I called Apple and fixed it, so for anyone else with this problem here's what I had to do.
I unplugged everything from the Airport and the Airport itself from the wall, held down the grey reset button on the bottom of it, while holding it down plugged it back into the wall and held the button till the light flashed green 3 times then went to orange and went back and opened Airport Utility and had to put in all my information again, holding down the button put it back to it's default settings.

  • PC can connect to internet but not time capsule

We are having no trouble getting onto our internet or accessing the time capsule with our Mac. However, the PC we have can get onto the internet, but is unable to access the time capsule. We need to be able to backup information from both of our computers.
    Please help us!

Did you install the Airport utility onto windows?  If not do so.. it should include bonjour which helps greatly. Make sure it does.
TC and wireless names may prevent access to resources.. are your names Apple style with that wonderful apostrophe.. illegal in the windows world?? Spaces in names also not legal.
Change all names to SMB type.. short .. no spaces.. straight alphanumeric.
Do you have permissions issues.. ??
Have you opened file sharing and turned on the guest account.. read and write access.
Do you have the right workgroup..?
Please put in WORKGROUP.. assuming that is the workgroup.
If you still have issues.. are you using homegroup in windows.. well stop it.
If you still have issues .. are you connecting correctly using proper URL in windows explorer, ie \\TCname or \\TCIPaddress (obviously replacing with actual name or actual IP)
If you still have issues.. ping the TC by name and IP and turn off all firewalls.
Do each in turn.. even step 1 might be enough.

  • Connects to internet but not local network

My AX worked fine for the past year. While traveling I disconnected the AX and set the wireless mode in Airport Admin Utility to 'Wireless disabled' and then connected an iMac by ethernet wire for our housesitter. All worked well. On my return I plugged in the AX and reset the Wireless Mode to 'Create a Wireless Network (home router)'. All appeared to work well for the past week. Until today.... when I tried to print wirelessly to a printer connected to my server in the office outside our home. The MacBook Pro was unable to find the printer or the server. It was formerly able to this with no problem.
The MacBook Pro can connect to the internet by the AX but not to my local network.
When I choose 'connect to server' from the Go menu I'm unable to locate the server. I determined that if I enter the local address in the 'server address' window I am able to connect but remain unable to print. My former protocol was to choose the 'browse' button and choose from a list of possible computers (their are a number of Macs possibly on the network).
If I take the MacBook Pro across the driveway to the office and plug into my network the computer finds the server and the printer with no problem.
I've done a hard-reset twice - to no avail. And attempted a factory default re-set 3x but don't believe it worked since the green light didn't flash 4x as expected - it came on briefly and then turned amber while it re-started, but when I used Airport Set up Assistant all my former settings were there and the same password I had entered so I don't believe it reset to factory defaults.
    Yow!
    I'll really appreciate any assistance.

  • Mobile Hotspot Says I'm connected to internet, but websites timing out

Hello, I just got mobile hotspot for my Thunderbolt. I am connecting to the network and it is saying I have internet access, however when I try and load a website they are timing out.
To make matters stranger, my computer is showing recieving and sending packets, and I had a youtube vdeo half loaded, and it streamed the rest. But when I click on new websites it is saying connection timed out.
    All help is appreciated thanks!

This has happened to me in the past. I've seen a few others report similar issues. I'll assume you've already tried the standard solutions (reboot, battery pull, reseat the SIM card).
Have you tried connecting to the hotspot with another computer? Have you tried a direct USB connection rather than a WiFi connection?
For me, the solution was to turn off Auto Sync before using the hotspot feature (Menu -> Settings -> Accounts and Sync, and then uncheck Auto Sync). Don't know why this worked, but it did.
If the above doesn't work for you, it could be a network-related issue. To test this, try the following:
Can you ping sites from your computer when the browsing ability is down?
If no, then it sounds like a DNS issue. In this case, try accessing a website by using its IP address rather than its domain name. For example, 206.112.186.66 is the IP address of lowes.com. If you can access a site via the IP address but not via the domain name, then it's a DNS problem. Call VZW tech support to report it. Use different DNS servers (e.g., Open DNS) in the meantime.
If you can still ping sites, then it's not a DNS issue. So, next, try using a proxy server--such as proxify.com--to access the web.  If the the proxy server works, then you should call VZW support to report the problem, since it's clearly an issue on their end with specific sites.
When calling into support, let me forewarn you: Give yourself an hour or more for them to walk you through the usual steps (reboot, battery pull, reseat the SIM card). Also, if they assign you a trouble ticket, don't expect to be called back within the promised 48 hours (it's more like 2+ weeks). Instead, you have to be assertive and keep calling them back.

  • IMac Connects to Internet, but not File Server

Got one iMac (Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.5.8) that has a network issue. It can always connect to the internet, but sometimes it stops seeing a file server on the network (Tiger server). The server connection will drop out on this computer, but not on any of the other computers on the network. Things I've tried that don't work:
    - restarting computer
    - re-seating ethernet cable
    - trying new ethernet cable
    - zapping PRAM on computer
The connection to the server just comes and goes randomly, but only on this computer. Suggestions? Thanks!

Same here with an iMac 27" connecting to a windows server.

  • Mac Pro will connect to internet but not network with other systems

I have an iMac in my studio reception and a Mac pro and Macbook in my office. All three systems can connect to the internet but the Mac Pro has stopped networking with the iMac. However the iMac can network with the Pro. I have an ethernet cable connection to the Pro (no wi fi card) and I have a wireless router on the iMac which has enabled me to connect the Pro to other systems through wi fi. I also have a PC laptop and the Pro can connect to it via wi fi. Everything was networking properly several weeks ago and as far as I am aware I have not changed any settings. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this annoying little problem.

  • Slow opening files when connected to internet but not domain

One of our Windows 8.1 Enterprise laptops is used by a user with local admin rights. The problem the user faces is that when on a WiFi connection that isn't on the Domain, it behaves very slowly. As if trying to contact some domain server. As soon as the
Wifi radio is turned off, everything returns to normal. When logging in the Wifi radio needs to be turned off or else the user is faced with a black screen for a couple of minutes. Simple task take a long time to open like Windows Explorer or Task Manager.
If the VPN is turned on it also returns to normal.
I have tried to login as a local admin user and the same occurs.
Other users with the same laptop and configuration don't have this problem.

    Hi,
According to your description, this problem seems like caused by WIFI connection. You can try to reinstall Wireless Card driver for test to fix this problem.
If no use, when this problem occurs, open Task Manager to check which process is occupying a plenty of CPU or RAM resource. Then end the process for test.

  • Airport Connects to Router, but not Internet

Due to the problems I'm having with my powerbridge ethernet connection as detailed in the link below, I am trying to establish a wireless connection instead.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2715590&tstart=0
I have set-up an additional access point router in the same room as the iMac, and can get a good connection to it from the Mac; however I am unable to connect to the internet although the other 15 devices on the wireless connection work fine.
Do I need to start from a new location in Network Preferences, or can I simply turn Airport on and ride along the ethernet configuration?
    Any support would be appreciated.

I sorted this myself, the router was taking the TCP/IP from the wrong place. Clicking on 'DHCP Renew' fixed it.

  • MacBook Air loses connection to internet but not LAN

Hi, I am using a MacBook Air 11" (mid-2012) running OS X Mavericks (10.9.3). I'm connecting to my home LAN via WiFi connection to a TP-Link 300M Wireless router that is setup as a switch (per instructions here http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=417), which in turn is connected via wire (ethernet-over-power) to a Technicolor cable modem/router provided by my ISP (UPC in the Netherlands; I can look up the model number of the router if needed, but it's two floors down right now and doesn't strike me that this is the cause of the problem).
I have a problem that my MacBook Air intermittently loses connectivity to the internet for extended periods (minutes) even though (a) the MacBook Air maintains full connectivity to my LAN at the same time through WiFi and (b) other computers connected to the cable modem/router maintain their connection to the internet while my MacBook Air has lost its connection.
My test to see where the breakdown is occurring is to have four terminal windows up and running ping processes:
    1) ping to 192.168.0.1 (my router) - this always stays live, with essentially no lost packets
    2) ping to an external address (I'm using 74.125.136.94, a google.nl address) - this is my main test for access to the internet and where I see ping failures (I'm also testing with pings to other sites when the problem is occurring to ensure it's not something on the remote end).
    3) ping to 192.168.0.13, which is a Synology NAS attached via ethernet cable to my main cable modem/router - this always stays live, with essentially no lost packets.
    4) a login to the Synology NAS, where I am also running a continual ping to 74.125.136.94, and this external ping does NOT fail when the one from my MacBook Air does, it stays live with essentially no lost packets.
The problem will usually correct itself after 1-3 minutes (though the time is not consistent), and also gets corrected if I turn the MacBook Air's WiFi off and on again.
Any suggestions for what I can do to stop this problem?
    Thanks
    John

    >     a. the Technicolor SSIDs, is the behavior the same (poziom-k testing shows that a second AP causes problems).
No. If connected to WiFI served by Technicolor, the problem does not occur (even if the other AP is connected to the network).
    >     b. can the Technicolor be replaced easily by an Airport Express/Extreme, to repeat this test?
Unfortunately, Technicolor in router mode is required by my ISP.
    > 2. Instead of WiFi, if the MBA is cabled to the secondary AP, is the behavior the same?
    Yes.
    > 3. Has Wireless RF interference been ruled out for dropped connections?
Yes. A Windows machine and several iOS mobile devices work flawlesly for me.
    > 4. If the MBA has a wired connection to the Technicolor, does the problem still exist?
No. The problem occurs only if connected through additional AP.
    > 5. Have packets been captured at each interesting point in the topology to see where are packets drops occurring? netstat -s is probably worth looking at > such points. Wireshark (or similar tools) can help.
Not yet. I will not have a chance to do it for the next few days though :/

  • AE ppoe mode in AE only allows macbook pro and iMac to connect to internet but not ipad

I just upgraded to  20MB DSL line and got a new Qwest Q1000 modem connected to an A Extreme.
Since Qwest now has PPPoE, I set the Q1000 modem to bridge mode and turned off Wifi.
Then I Set the AEx router to ppoe mode, entered my username and password from Qwest and all is well with all lights green.
But... only my imac and macbook pro connect to the internet.  My ipad, my wife's macbook and an ipod touch cannot connect.
According the Airport Utility, all these devices are detected by the wifi network and they have their own  unique IPs provided by the AEx router (in pppoe mode)   10.0.1.7,   10.0.1.9 and so forth, no ip conflicts detected, all the lights green with full access to the internet. Again, only  my iMac and my macbook pro actually connect to the internet at full speed.
Does any one know why some devices connect to the internet while others are not able to...
Again, no errors detected anywhere, all modem and router lights green.
    Any help is welcomed.
    Janickk

Thanks for the reply.  Your suggestion did not work.  Apparently there is an issue with DNS addresses.
The Airport Extreme in pppoe mode  sets the router and DNS addresses to be the same 10.0.1.1.  Some devices (like my macbook pro and iMac) ignore this DNS value or use a different  (unknown) and then they connect to the internet perfectly.  But the devices (ipads and ipods) aquire and set both values (Router and DNS) to be the same, (10.0.1.1 and 10,0.1.1) wont connect to the internet until I manually  changed the DNS address in the DNS field.
Question: are these two values supposed to be the same/different/ in both fields in the AExt in pppoe mode?
    Thanks
    Janickk
