Airport connection loss
Hi,
my airport connection will spontaneously drop a couple of times a day while I'm at work, but not on my home network. This doesn't happen to other mac (or pc) users on the same network.
Could this be a problem with my hardware?
Sorry, I'm not sure what all info I should supply to help.
Thanks
Justin
This is happening to me too. It started last night, and I wasn't in the room when my Powerbook lost connection. But ever since I noticed, I haven't been able to get a connection for more than a few (maybe, 10?) minutes before I lose it and have to restart. My roommates are all connected wirelessly to the same network, one through Airport on a 12-inch Powerbook, so I assume it's my computer.
When I lose connection, the wireless network disappears from the drop-down menu. Once it came back when I put my computer to sleep, but it now only comes back upon restarting.
Please help! Is there anything I can do?

I have an OSX v 10.5.8 connected via airport to a Epson xp-410 printer. I can print fine ... all good in this respect.
The trouble is its not possible to maintain the connection for more than a few hours. I have to go thru a lengthy re-connect process each time I wish to print. Surely the airport connection shouldnt drop like this.
How can I maintain the connection?

Internet connection loss using Airport Extreme and Netgear DG843
Hello,
I am accessing internet via a Netgear DG834 router (not wifi), connected to an Airport Extreme base station. Most of the time, I can access internet through the Wifi network of the AEB without any problem. But around once a day I am experiencing connection loss and the only way I found to restore it is to reset the Netgear Router by physically unplungging it.
Both the Netgear and the AEB have up to date firmware, so I suspect some kind of problem in my setup, as I am not an expert in setting up networks.
Is it possible that using a Netgear Router connected to the AE (which is also a router if I understand correctly) could cause connection problems ?
I am at a loss, and do not even know how to describe the relevant informations of my current setup. If a kind soul could help me nonetheless, I would be very gratefull.

Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)Is it possible that using a Netgear Router connected
to the AE (which is also a router if I understand
correctly) could cause connection problems ?
Yes.
Ensure that that the AEBS is configured to not distribute IP addresses.
Also ensure that the AEBS is on a different channel to the DG834G.

Lose airport connection after using boot camp and windows XP
After using windows XP on boot camp and shutting down windows and booting to Mac OS 10.5.7 I lose the airport connection and have to restart or reset my airport extreme base station. My imac 2.8 is connected to airport via ethernet. Air port is operating on 5.7 version. This is a recent development and suspect it is related to updates in windows. I do not know where to start but need to solve this problem as it interrupts the other computers on wireless. Thanks Carl
I have solved problem. It was in the windows settings using airport rather than ethernet connection. Carl

Windows server 2012 and windows xp remote desktop connection loss
I am having this problem for a month now, and i am stumped with trying to find an answer . I have talked with several network admins in my area and with no luck i have not found a solution. I have a windows server 2012 placed with 5 pcs that are connected
on a local network , those 5 pc's connect to the server via remote desktop. List of pc's:
1x Windows 7
4x Windows XP SP3
All have the latests network drivers, all have the latest version of remote desktop installed. All have been scanned for viruses. All have antivirus software.
Problem is the 4 XP machines lose connection on when connected via remote desktop. If one starts losing connection the other 3 start to lose the connection aswell. The windows 7 machine is not affected by this it works fine.
What have I tried:
Scanning for viruses.
Disabling Firewall and antivirus software.
Updating all drivers.
Did many changes to group policy like keepalives etc.
Turning off SMBv2 SMBv3.
Turning off network adapter Offload settings.
Changed some registry settings like keepalive, smb etc.
Updating every pc and server with all windows updates.
Changed the router and switch.
Port forwarded needed ports like 3389.
Updating remote desktop to 7.0.
I might be forgetting some stuff i will add as i remember anything.
So the thing is this. I use a Windows XP machine from my office I remotely connect to the server via the Internet and I DO NOT experience any connection loss. BUT the XP machines on the local network constantly experience connection loss via remote desktop.
I pinged every Machine from the server via CMD command PING. So when they lose connection the Packets get time outs . Packets get dropped between 1-10 packets when a connection is lost. This packet drop does not occur when using the internet or anything else.
ONLY when connected to the server via remote desktop. The packets get dropped at random intervals.
Problem is I use an XP machine and I am not experiencing any loss of connection , while the XP machines on the local network experience it , but not the windows 7 machine.
Router is ASUS RT-N53 , and switch is Dlink DES-1008D. Server is a Dell PowerEdge T110 II.
Can someone please tell me what can i do to solve this problem? So today got some word from their office. They were using RDP from 8AM until 12PM all was working fine. Then got back after lunch about 1PM and got a few connection lost errors when they tried using RDP again. Its weird since they didn't have disconnects
in the morning, and started having them after lunch.
Also noticed, that two pc were not using RDP and were disconnected as shown in task manager. And they still got request timeouts.
Maybe this is not a remote desktop issue?

Connection loss SUM GUI to SL Controller
Hi experts,
I am experiencing an issue that I need to resolve. It is that I lose the connection from SUM GUI (locally) to the SL Controller running on the remote server.
Currently I am doing an upgrade and after some time, e.g. when I have an error and don't notice it immediately, I get a warning message.
"The connection to the SL Controller is down.
The SDT GUI will reestablish the connection, when possible."
On the server I get the following error message:

My current assumption is that the firewall drops the connection due to inactivity.
The main issue then is:
although I restart my local SUM GUI and reconnect to the server I can't continue the upgrade because the Buttons are "unclickable" (grey).
Currently I always had to restart SUM including the services on ther server (SL controller).
My question is:
what can I do to avoid this connection loss?
Is there a option to set a "keep alive" to the network connection?
so that the firewall does not validate the connection as idle and drops?
Unfortunately we can't do much about the firewall settings due to security restrictions.
I would be glad to hear from you.
Kind regards,
NiklasHi Mathias,
I got an answer from SAP. There is no option that can be executed with STARTUP to solve this.
I already proposed to forward this request to the dev team at SAP
What I am currently doing is:
Start the GUI and keep it open only if I know if there is are Actions coming next, otherwise I close it (only the GUI) and when some time has passed by I logon again to check.
This is a really bad solution, but currently the only one.
Regards,

Hello. First time using this. Still trying to figure out how to post my questions. I seem to have lost some of my settings and now I cannot configure my airport connection. How do I get my settings back?
If you are using cable and a Nethear router sounds like from the information you provide before your Airport setting are setup improperly. PPoE is not something a cable service would need to work. Fallow the steps I will provide bellow, I will add some screen shots also to assist if necessary.
1 - Open System Preferences from (Menu)
2 - Click "Network"
3 - From the Network window you are going to wanna make sure Location is : Automatic and Show is : Airport
4 - Once the Show: Airport is select you should see a window like this, my window is selected for Ethernet simply because I am no longer running Tiger but the window will look the same.
5 - You will want to click on the PPPoE tab and you should see this
6 - You're gonna wanna make sure " connection using PPPoE " is not select, if it is make sure to uncheck this option
7 - Once this is uncheck make sure to click "Apply Now"
8 - You will want to click back on to the "TCP/IP" tab and make sure IPv4 is set to " Using DHCP "
9 - If the option to " Apply Now" is available again please click this
10 - Once this is done go to your Aiport Menu and see if your network is listed and select your network and eneter the password if necessary.
11 - If after these steps you still have issues I would recommend Power Cylcing your Router and Modem for about 5 minutes
12 - Make sure all lights are off when unplugging the Router and the Modem
13 - Some Modems have backup batterys so you may have to push in a tiny button on the back with a pin -
Why do I have Intermittent Wifi Connection Loss during music streaming ?
Hello,
I have an ipad3 and an iPhone 4S and I am getting with both devices interruption of the sound when I send music to the Apple TV. It generally happens after a few minutes. The signal for the wifi is still good and I have still access to the Internet I have tried all the recommendations of the article "iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections" but this did not help. I have used several applications for sending music to the Apple TV (music application from Apple and DSAudio from Synology) but I'm getting the same issue. I have also the same issue with the media center application from Bouygues Telecom connecting directly to my internet router. My router is a bbox sensation. I had also the same kind of issue with my old router when sensing photo albums to the internet: I had the error message "your system is running low on ressources". How can I solve these intermittent wifi connection losses ?Try #5.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Another airport connecting to internet problem! Please help!
Hi, I'm having a problem connecting to the internet on my iMac G5 running OS 10.5.8.
It initially started happening on and off after I upgraded from 10.4, now it happens all the time.
Airport connects to the network (full 5 bars and I can see the other machines on the network), but can't connect to the internet. When I run Network Diagnostics, I only get as far as Select Airport network, but it keeps scanning forever but doesn't find the network. Meanwhile my iBook G4 and a PowerMac on the same network connect no problem.
I get the Self Assigned IP address message in network preferences.
I have searched the forums for this problem, and found lots of other people having the same problem, but none of the suggested fixes have worked. The only thing I can't do is reboot the modem as it's my landlords network and I don't have access to it.
Things I have tried include:
-turning airport on and off
-deleting the airport preferences plist file from system preferences and rebooting
-deleting airport from network preferences and adding it again
-deleting all locations and creating a new one
-using manual dhcp and putting in an ip address same as the ibook with 1 extra number at the end
-turning of the firewall
-rebooting rebooting rebooting
None of the above works. Can anyone can suggest any thing else? It's driving me crazy! I know there are lots of other posts on this topic but I think I tried all of the fixes suggested without any success.
ThanksThere is a fair chance it's a problem with the DNS settings your ISP uses. Here is what I'd recommend.
1. System preferences
2. Network
3. Click Advanced
4. Click DNS tab
5. Click + sign
6. Add 208.67.222.222
7. Click + sign
8. Add 208.67.220.220
9. Click OK.
10. Exit System Preferences
11. Try out your iMac and report what happened.

Airport connected to modem but no internet.
So I have the Airport connected to my cable modem but the Airport just blinks orange the whole time and the activity light isn't moving at all on the modem and I can't get online.
I've tried unplugging the modem and Airport then like 15 minutes later I plug the modem in then 15 minutes later I plug the Airport in, but it doesn't seem to be working, any thoughts?Alright, so I called Apple and fixed it, so for anyone else with this problem here's what I had to do.
I unplugged everything from the Airport and the Airport itself from the wall, held down the grey reset button on the bottom of it, while holding it down plugged it back into the wall and held the button till the light flashed green 3 times then went to orange and went back and opened Airport Utility and had to put in all my information again, holding down the button put it back to it's default settings. -
Mac desktop and Airport Connection
I have problem on My Mac desktop. I can't connect to my airport. my other devices had no problem with the airport connection. It shows full bar on my wifi bar but when I started to browse it tells me not connected to the Internet. I've tried resetting everything but no luck for me. Please help. Thanx!
What specifically have you tried resetting? If you are seeing and connecting to your network then that's a big first step. I would try first to see if it's a settings issue. The easiest way to do this is to create a new network location and see if the issue persists. Go to System Preferences -> Network. Select the box next to the word "locations" at the top and select "edit locations." Hit the plus symbol and name the location whatever you want (I use "test" in these situations). Make sure it's selected and hit "done" and then Apply in the bottom right of the preferences page. Give it about 30 seconds and then try to browse again. If you're successful, it was a settings issue. You can now do one of two things: find the individual setting that was causing the issue in the other location, or just use the new location you've already created. You'll probably opt for the latter, which is what I would recommend. Very, very few users have a need for a particular location setting. If you're still having a problem then it may be more complicated to resolve. I would try it on another network (at a friend's house, or at Starbucks) to make sure it's not network related. Just because your machine is the only one not working doesn't exclude the network as the root of the issue. If you have problems there, I would consult your local Apple Store or Apple Certified repair facility as it may take some deeper troubleshooting to resolve.

Airport connection dropping off when computer sleeps
Starting with the latest 10.4.8 update my airport connection drops when the computer goes to sleep. No amount of configuring will get the computer to recognize my airport. Turning off the power to the airport, waiting, and re-connecting does no good. The only way to get wireless is to restart. Once restarted the airport connection is re-established without any configuration and continues to be fine until the computer goes to sleep. Hard wiring ethernet works at all times without problems.
thanks,
i read the doc, looked in the system prefs where my re-connect was set to "preferred" and there was only one wpa network listed. i deleted it from the list then re-added per the apple document. will see if this works.
in my own mind i don't think this is the solution but am keeping an open mind. the weird thing about my situation is that after the computer sleeps there are no available networks under the airport menu. i know in fact there are 4-6 in my area. after restarting the 4-6, including mine, networks are all there and my network has been connected to. -
MacBookPro loses automatic AirPort Connection
My MacBook Pro used to connect automatically to my Airport Express network everytime I opened up or turned on the computer. Recently I accidentally unplugged my Airport Express. Since then, my laptop no longer connects automatically. (In other words, the airport connection on the tool bar is shaded gray...) I have to connect manually from the tool bar every time I open up or turn on my laptop. Can anyone help me figure out what to do with the settings to fix this?
The OS is 10.4.11.I have exactly the same problem after an ATT line issue which caused my DSL line to go dead. After fixing the line, Airport would not connect to my MacBookPro automatically. So I reset AP Extreme and could then find it but once I put the laptop to sleep or restart it, I have to manually connect to AP Extreme. The G5 tower has no problems and my iPhone is automatically connected

MacBook Pro 2008 Airport connections
I know that a number of people have posted messages regarding the problem with Airport connections but I have not found a solution yet. My MackBook Pro 2008 has iOS 10.6.8. I can see Airport on (bold signal) but I can't access the interenet though I am able to use Skype. This had happened before but the problem was resolved by itself. The laptop works fine when connected by an ethernet cable. Can any one suggest any solutions please? Please note that I do not use Airport Exress or Time Capule as far as I know.
Thank you.
Prithvi. Can your MacBook Pro (MBP) connect to other wireless network AND gain Internet access, just not yours? Regardless, when a computer can connect to the local wireless network BUT is unable to gain Internet access, it typically is due to missing or corrupt DNS server information. Think of DNS as the Internet's version of a phone book.
One simple test, is to enter the web site's actual IP address instead of its URL in your web browser. If you can now access the website, you verified that the DNS information in your MBP AirPort profile is incorrect.
Another test, is to substitute a known set of DNS servers, like the ones provided by OpenDNS. Again, if you can access the websites by their URLs, it was the DNS servers information that was incorrect. -
Loosing Airport Connections - Core Duo

Every once in a blue moon, when the Mac was off for a while, it asks to connect to any wifi network around. It rarely connects to the selected wifi network and then only for about 5 minutes before it degrades constantly (watching it with iStumbler) and in about 5 minutes it's dead. When it connects iStumbler never shows more than about 50% signal strength.
In order to get a signal at all I must be right next to the router, only to die after 5-10 minutes. If I try to join the network, it throws a "connection timeout" error.

This happens on various networks (not just my home network with a Netgear router - mixed b/g, channel 6, WPA)
I first checked on my router (switched channels, removed encryption, updated firmware, reset everything). Tried different wifi networks. Nothing would improve it.
I've tried all of the Mac solutions I could find online:
Removing the airport prefs, booting into safe mode, turning IPv6 off, DNS entries, removing and adding the Airport setup, turned the airport utility process off (I use a Netgear router), reset PRAM, Repair Permissions...
I even reseated the card and the antennae (2) in case it was a bad connection.
I finally erased everything and installed from the original disks 10.4.6 and tried upgrading slowly (tried 10.4.6, 10.4.11, 10.5.0, 10.5.1, 10.5.3, 10.5.4), all the way up to 10.5.4.
iStumbler or AP Grapher find the network at the signal strength of about 20% while the Airport menu indicator can't see or connect at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Have you connected to the router using an ethernet cable? Try this to check that the signals are getting to & through the router. From my own experience it is most likely the wifi connection that is not working as it should.
Make sure that you also do the routine maintenance things such as using Disk Utility to repair permissions. Errors here can affect some processes.
I suggest that you also report the problem to Apple by clicking on the Contact Us link at the bottom of this page. On the screen that comes up choose the most appropriate link at the lower end of the RH column. I would include this copy of the System log. This is the main way we users have of getting Apple's attention. They don't promise any direct response but they will check the issue. You should also give them info about the router(s) you have had this problem with & any other info that might help them sort it out.
