Airport connection timeout on Mac mini PCs works fine

Hi
I'm having trouble with my Macmini since I upgrade to Leopards latest updates. My girlfriends PC connects with no problem and also my company PC. It's just the Mac thats having trouble. I've had it for 2 years with Tiger and its just been working fine all the time. Then I bougth Leopard and a Time capsule for Christmas and I didn't realy had any trouble until the 10.5.6 update installed then it has been nothing but trouble. I did get it to work by following some instructions I found on the Net. For a day or two it worked fine then I upgraded the Time capsule then it was gone again. I bought the mac for it simplicyty but now its giving me a hard time. Anybody having a suggestion please

I have a similar problem. Though I couldn't get my Mac Mini (just got it 2 weeks ago) to ever connect through AirPort. My router (LinkSys) is in the same room as the mini. Sometimes mini can't even see my network but it does see a couple of other WLANs in my proximity.
I have no problems finding and connecting with my black MacBook and my girlfriends HP Pavilion.

  • External backup drive will not mount on new mac mini. still works fine on the old one. new one is running mavericks

I just bought new-to-me mac mini running OSX mavericks.
Trying to migrate from old mac mini using simpletech external hard drive.
It still mounts on my old mac mini (system 10.5) but will not mount or show up when I plug it in to the new mac mini running mavericks.
    Any ideas?

What exactly shows in System Profiler>Hardware>USB for those drives?
Boot from the Install Disc & see if they show up, not grayed out in Disk Utility.
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
We were thinking along the same lines. While at home I dug up a firewire enclosure and put a bootable GUID formatted drive in it (that I had in one of the usb enclosures) and started her computer holding down the option key and then chose to boot from the external firewire. All usb drives are now mounting upon connection. I asume that her drive has bad sectors on it (even though the SMART status says it's OK) and is not loading all the drivers properly for USB to mount. I was suspicious from the beginning that the OS was corrupt when she first had me look at it. It was at that point that I booted it in target mode, connected to my Macbook Pro, and then CCC'd to a usb drive that I had. I then had a couple of difficulties installing the new OS. Should have known......
I am now going to put a new drive in it for her and she'll be up and running.
Thanks so much for your help and thoughts that got me thinking as well.

  • Mac Mini Server works fine but one folder!

    Hi all!
It's my first time on the forums so let me introduce myself first. I'm Dylan de Heer, currently working at Today, a communication and design studio in the center of Holland (Utrecht ftw.).
About a year ago we had someone install a mac mini server for us with daily backups and what not. Now since a week or two it happens that one folder became corrupted. Anyone that enters it, has his whole finder freeze up. Now would it be a small product or unimportant folder we would've deleted it and copied it from a local machine again. This time though we're talking about a full client's folder.
When anyone tries to enter the folder we just see a black space, no icons, no files, anything. My guess is that nothing is deleted. I think we're just unable to access the folder properly. Now I'm not much of a tech guy and the person that installed the server is unreachable. Would anyone have an idea of what could be the cause I'll manage to fix it. If it's terminal related Please provide a detailed description as of what I'm supposed to run.
I'm sure I'm missing some important information as to what kind of server we're running but frankly I don't really know the specs. So I'm very open to suggestions as to what I should do, haha.
Anyway, thanks in advance and I really hope that we can find a way to fetch that folder back. In the meanwhile I'm gonna take a look if I can access the backup disk somehow. Thanks!
    Dylan

Good suggestion, let's see if we can. I'll come back to you!

  • Magic mouse lagging or unresponsive when using bootcamp windows 7 on Mac Mini but works fine in Mac OSX 10.8.4

I updated the Apple Broadcam built-in bluetooth radio software through Windows and it found an update. Updated Boot Camp software/drivers to version 5.0.33, the latest which includes a wireless mouse piece.  Replaced the batteries again and turn it off/on several times. In the Bluetooth menu, this mouse usually does not show up in connected devices or will not show up as a device that can be added.  Once it did show up right after turning it off/on but took forever to connect then lost its connection right away and couldn't be discovered again.
I don't think drivers are the issue, seems to be some kind of conflict with wireless adapter & bluetooth maybe.
I found this which looked promising but no luck:  http://kemal.co/index.php/2012/09/laggy-magic-mouse-boot-camp-windows/

I am able to connect to my Mac Mini on Back to My Mac through iCloud but the keyboard/trackpad on the MBAir or MBP with which I access does not register on the Mini.  So I can see the screen but cannot interact with it. Mini works accessing MBP/Air and I can use Mini to input data or interact with screens of those computers.

Regarding your first question about bookmarks, I think you discovered the answer in when you pressed the address bar. The second tab there has your bookmarks.
As for the keyboard, I'm not sure why your Firefox is reacting so slowly; mine seems to show keyboards even when I don't want them. If you have accumulated a lot of history, perhaps that's an issue?
Did you use any third party software to move your Firefox data from internal memory to the storage card?

First, is your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) a 802.11n, 802.11g, or 802.11b model? Second, what is your primary goal for using this base station? Finally, is the AEBS the only router in your current network configuration?

  • My airport express 802.11g won't connect to my mac mini

    Hi
I have recently purchased an Airport Express 802.11g and I can't get it to connect to my Mac mini. It shows up in the wifi menu at the top of the screen but when I click on it it says
This version of AirPort Utility doesn’t support this base station. Go to AirPort Service and Support for more information.
    Can anyone help?

Have you tried restarting the system? Many times that will resolve the issue?
If you are still having problems do you have a USB mouse that you can use to open the Bluetooth preferences and then either reconnect to the mouse, or delete the pairing, then reconnect to the mouse?

  • I just purchased Apple USB SuperDrive and connected to my Mac mini 2012 but does not show anything on the screen. Not sure if its working.

I just purchased Apple USB SuperDrive and connected to my Mac mini late 2012 USB slot but nothing shows up on the screen.
    I have OS X versus 10.10.3

The system bus and all connected products should appear in the system profile or in the
hardware part of About this Mac (more info) and if that does not, restart the computer with
the external Apple USB SuperDrive plugged in. •As a last resort, if nothing else, before a
return trip to be rid of the SuperDrive, you could try a system management controller reset.
The SMC reset is not a first choice, so I won't post a link to the support instruction page.
A new Apple USB SuperDrive should be seen as hardware in system information report.
Of course, an icon of disc media should appear once the disc is inserted into the drive, too.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How can I share external devices connected to my Mac mini via USB on a wired network.

Own a Mac mini with Mountain Lion.  Purchased the server app.  The Mac mini is connected to a wired network with Mac’s and Windows machines.  I have an external hard drive and 2 printers connected to the MAC mini via USB.  I would like to share these devices with other computers on the wired network. Although I have attached similar devices with an airport extreme in the past, I am unable to use a wireless router in this case.  Any suggestions on making this work with my current setup?

You don't really even need server app to do this. Simply go to System Preferences | Sharing and turn on both File & Printer sharing. Then, for example, the printer (not relevant what connection it has but obviously USB is fine) will be available to everyone on the wired network.
That's all there is to it - unless I missed/misunderstood something re: your setup which seems very straightforward.

  • Internet connection sharing between Mac Mini and Imac G3- how?

Ok, I'm trying to connect my G3 Imac (running 10.4.8) to my Mac Mini (also running 10.4.8) but it just wont work.
I've turned Internet Connection sharing on on my Mac Mini, and set it to share the airport connection to computers connected using Built in ethernet.
Network (on the M Mini) shows
Built-In Ethernet is currently active. Built-In Ethernet has a self assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet.
    Network (on the G3) shows
Built-In Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address 192.168.2.7. You are connected to the Internet via Built-In Ethernet.
When i try to go to a webpage on the G3 it fails stating, 'You are not connected to the Internet'.
I'm using a standard straight through ethernet cable, as I was told a while ago from apple support that it doesn't matter which u use, straight through or crossover.
Any help would be really appreciated
    Macbook 2.0Ghz 2GB 80GB/Mac Mini 1.42Ghz 1GB 80GB/Imac G3 450Mhz 640MB 80GB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

OK after some playing about I can now manage to connect to the mac mini and vice versa to share files.
The iMac G3 now says it has an IP address of 192.168.2.18, and that it's connected to the internet via built-in ethernet. I've set configure IPV4 to Using DHCP.
Except it's not connected to the net.
If i select Using DHCP on the Mini it doesn't obtain an IP address, not even a self set one. So i've set a manual IP address on that, and everything shows up green. Airpot connected to the internet and Ethernet has an IP address of 192.168.2.30.
After reading some forums I set up firewall logging. The result is what happens on the Mac Mini when I use network diagnostics on the G3:
Feb 11 16:43:52 richard-xxxxx-mac-mini natd[394]: failed to write packet back (Host is down)
So I opened port 394 (not really knowing what i'm trying) but it had no effect.

I converted from a PC to a Mac Mini.  I have my PC documents backed up on a DVD disk.  I have an external DVD drive connected to the Mac Mini.  I want to open these documents up from the DVD storage and save them to the Mac, BUT....when I put the DVD disk in the Mac is NOT reading it!

    Hi Joe,
Thanks for your quick response.  I should add....it worked before.  When I previously inserted the two DVDs into this remote drive, and I went into finder, I could click on the "remote device" line and see all my saved documents (excel, word, etc) on the DVD and open them on the Mac.  Now I cannot see them, when I try to open them on the Mac, nothing happens, nothing is displayed.  I just re-tested the remote DVD drive with a CD and, no problem, it opened up the CD via iTunes and I cold play the CD.  SO......I know the remote DVD drive (it's an LG by the way) is fine, it's something to do with some settings on my mini mac, especially where I could open it previously.  I do not remember changing any settings since then.
When I go into system preferences and click on CD/DVD it gives me options of how to open up a music CD (default is iTunes), a DVD (default is iMovie), etc.  The problem is my DVD is all miscellaneious files/documents.  I just want to be able to see them in the finder.  I also tried to open them via microsoft word, from the remote disk and again, it could not open the drive, even though some of the documents were microsoft word documents.  Again, I was able to open them previously and the DVD is not corrupted in any way.
    Any additional advice?
    Thank you!

  • Airport very slow with Mac mini

I have a Powerbook and a Mac Mini. Both have airport wireless internet.
When I put them side-by-side, the Powerbook gets a strong internet connection, the Mac mini is very weak and often loses the internet altogether.
Both the Powerbook and Mini have 1 GB Ram.
Seems like they should get identical or at least very similar reception.
    Help!

Yes, I would expect them to have roughly similar reception.
The Mac mini is certainly still under warranty. The Airport card inside your Mac mini is not considered to be a user-serviceable part. Therefore best solution - take your Mac mini to your Apple dealer, explain the problem, and get them to fix it.
