Airport connects but no internet connection.

I'm at university and have my iMac connected to the internet using the ethernet cable with internet sharing turned on so I can use my Macbook at the same time.
It has worked fine up until yesterday when an exclamation mark kept appearing in on the AirPort icon on my Macbook. Today the exclamation mark has gone and it has a full signal, but when I try to visit a website it says "You are not connected to the internet.". The internet on my iMac is still working fine. Any ideas how to fix it?

Try pinging your iMac, and then another computer on the school's network. Also try pinging an outside IP address (you can just make up a couple).

  • Airport Says It's Connected -- But No Internet Connection...

    This is driving me mad...
We're using Airport to connect a 12" PowerBook G4 (10.4.11) to a WirelessLAN (the modem is an Arcor A300 WLAN -- a German make)
We had been having no problems until it one day said "you are not connected to the internet".
I've tried all the restarting the modem rigamarole, and the PB can connect via Ethernet. Opening Internet connect, Airport signal strength is 100%, it states that it's connected to the Arcor modem.
Under System Preferences / Network it states "You are connected to the internet via Airport"
Also, I can see the PowerBook mounted in My Mac Pro's Finder...so it must be connecting wirelessly to the Arcor box --- My Mac Pro is connected to the Arcor Box via Ethernet cable.
Anyone got any ideas, suggestions as to what's going on?
    TIA,

I am having a very similar problem with one of the iMacs here at our office on AirPort. We have four machines using an Airport Extreme, but only one has this issue--a full set of connection bars and access to everything else that is shared, but the internet connection keeps dropping every 15-20 minutes and won't reconnect. From the Airport icon we turn off the Airport, then connect again and it works fine for another 15 minutes until it quits again. I finally had to use a cable to hard-connect that computer to our network and now it works fine, so it can't be the computer itself.
What to do? I'm afraid this problem will start with the other machines, as well. Can anyone assist?

  • Airport Extreme has ethernet connection but no internet connection

I am having an airport extreme connectivity issue that has yet to be resolved. For me, the cable modem (a Motorola Surfboard) recognizes the airport extreme (I have the round white saucer one) but the airport extreme, despite giving me an 'ethernet' connection (that also shows up as full signal strength in the menu bar), cannot connect to the internet, no matter what I do.
Seems the airport extreme is not recognizing/picking up the ip address of my computers.
The airport base station is recognized by airport utility, has an ID and I can name it as well as create a network, but no matter what I do and despite being told that I am connected to the internet via ethernet, there is no connection to the internet.
I have a dual G5 desktop hooked up directly to the cable modem and am trying to wirelessly connect a new macbook pro intel core dual.
Each computer can access the internet when directly hooked up to the cable modem, but neither can access the internet wirelessly.. so it's not the computers, nor is is the cable modem. I called Time Warner, all is fine with that connection.
Both my ethernet cables work (checked them both). So it must be the airport extreme.
I was on the phone with apple tech support for 5 hours yesterday!!! They made me run through all the things I did myself. From trying to reconfigure and rename the airport to completely resetting the airport. None of this worked.
And right now I'm on hold for a multi-media product specialist with apple tech support.
But they didn't do a thing for me yesterday so I'm hoping someone on here may know what to do.
I think I need a new airport extreme. Anyone???

    Hello Laura, Jim, Richard...
Now my internet connexion work on my AEBS (Airport Extreme Base Station)... It seems that (for me) DHCP was the problem...
DHCP server (10.0.1.x) activated on the AEBS conflict with DHCP server (192.168.1.x) activated on the modem.
Before the AEBS 5.7 update (i made yesterday) this configuration with two DHCP servers with different IP addresses worked well... but not now...!
So, i disabled the Modem DHCP server. I rebooted the modem and the AEBS and success, my internet connexion worked again...
I used manual setup with fixed IP, submask, DNS to connect the AEBS to the modem...
I hope this could help you, Laura and Jim...
Sorry for mistakes, i'm french mac user

  • Airport connecting but no internet connection

Hi there I've been searching the forums and I have seen that this is a common issue.
My airport connects to my router with a strong signal, however when I go to use any of my three browsers, not a single one is capable of connecting to the internet. However Skype (on Mac) and Bootcamp connects and works fine. No settings on the Mac or router have been changed and no amount of router resets will correct this.
Does anyone have a solution to this? It is getting tiresome to constantly change to windows to get internet access
    Thanks in advance
    Lindsey

Open System Preferences->Network and find your connection named "Airport". In the right column hit the "Advanced" button in the bottom right hand corner. In the drop-down select "DNS" and put either OpenDNS.com (208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220) or Google DNS (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) in the DNS settings and hit apply. See if one of those helps and you can tell this by opening /Applications/Utilities/NetWork Utility and see if you can ping apple or Google by the DNS (www) name with it. This way you can see if the it works.

  • Wep password rejected - Airport works but no internet connection

With my iMac i'am connected to internet via my Sitecom router WL143 and WEP 128bits hex password. My new MacBook won't accept the WEP password. Still get a warning that the password is wrong. My MacBook can see all routers in the neighberhood. Have ones tried at a familymember, internet connection works perfect (not Sitecom).
Is my type of router the problem? Do i had to buy an other brand?
Who can help. Thanks in advance.

  • Re: Network connection, but no internet connection

I have a MacBook Pro, 10.6.8. I am set up ith Airport Extreme, and everything has worked great. All of a sudden I have no internet. I open up Airport Utilities and there is no Airport to be seen. I gave the Airport a Hard Reboot ( 5 seconds on the button untill it blinks yellow) and it now shows up in the Airort Utility, though still orange. The Airport Utility can not find the Airport Extreme... though you can see it now.
At work I can access the Network fine, but I still can not access the internet.
I've re-installed Safari, but that is pointless as I can no access internet via Email, or any other web applications. It's for sure an issue where my computer can not access internet, regardless if I'm at home or at work. Why??
Network Diagnostics can not fix the problem, and I've even rebooted using AppleJack and no go. I hope I do not have to re-install the OS and everything?!
    Any thoughts?

UPDATE: Connection to Network, but not Internet Fixed!
    I have tried everything!
Reboot Airport Extreme, Hard reboot of Airport Extreme, reboot modem...
Reset Safari, re-install Safari, I deleted all Networks, and I changed the order of Nework items in the System Preferences>Network order so that Airport was at the top of the list...
I figured out I had ZERO Internet, e-mail, nothing, but WI-FI worked fine, connected to servers fine, iPhone connects to Internet fine, why will my MacBook Pro not connect to the Ineternet?!?!
Network Diagnostics was no help at all.
I deleted the System Configuration under the HD>Library>Preferences>System Configuration, and that did not help.
I retarted the computer holding down the Option and Command Key, and long with two other keys (I forget which two ) and that did nothing, so your not missing out on anything not knowing which two
Using another computer I downloaded "AppleJack", restarted using that program and it deleted the Cache, and basically wipes everything clean, and that did not work.
What did work? Insert the Snow Leopard Install CD, (No I have not gone to Lion yet, too sketchy yet) and holding down the Command and 'C' key I restarted the computer from the Snow Leopard Install CD, and simply re-installed the system. I had backed everything up first of course, but it was not nessesary as nothing seemed to have changed.
BUT THIS TIME SAFARI WORKED!!!! I was really starting to think I had a damaged Airport Card, or a hardware issue, but the system re-install worked great!!!
I sure hope this helps other people out with the same issue. Very Frustrating!!!!
    Peace!

  • Have network connection, but no internet connection

My son has a Macbook that he can use to connect wirelessly at school, friends and even to our neighbors wireless connection no problem. We purchased a Linksys WRT54G so that he could connect at home. He has a network connection with a full signal, but when he tries Safari he gets a message that he has no internet connection. I've checked the settings suggested in other places in the forum, and they are ok. I'm afraid to mess around too much (even if I knew what to do) because I don't want to ruin his ability to connect at school. I am not very computer literate and this is our first Mac, so any help would be very much appreciated.
The router is WEP enabled. I have entered the key with a $ in front and it is being accepted, but even if I disable WEP, I can't get an internet connection.
    In system preferences - Network
Airport is set by default to join: Automatic
TCP/IP is set as follows - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    IPv6 Configure: Automatically
Does anyone have any other ideas?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

cmdmom, Welcome to the discussion area!
Create a new location following the directions in KB 106653, Using network locations in Mac OS X. Then he can easily switch between the current (school) settings and settings for the home network.
After the new network is created and selected, ensure that there is no proxy defined and ensure that the DNS fields are blank in the Network preference pane.

  • Wireless connected but no internet connection on MacBook Pro

I Have recently purchased a new MacBook Pro. I updated the software to OS X Yosemite 10.10 a couple of weeks ago and had no initial issues connecting to my home internet (However I could not get onto public hotspots which I was told was due to a comparability issue with my updated Safari). Now, I cannot connect at all to my home internet. I have tried re-starting the router, re-installing the wireless network, clearing history and website data and restarting the computer. All other Apple products (iPhone and iPad) are connecting as normal.
Aa advice much appreciated - thanks!

Hi Carolyn - Thank you for responding, I appreciate the help!
We have a tower, and I don't see an on/off button.  Should I just unhook the power cord from the tower?  We also have the phone line hooked to the tower, should I unhook as well?  I'm assuming the PC is off before I do this?
Then, turn the computer back on?
    Thank you!

  • Blackberry torch 9800 wifi connected but no internet

hi i am using blackbery torch 9800.its giving error that wifi is connected but no internet connection.please help me

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Reboot
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support and to ensure that you are subscribed to a data plan from them that is adequate to use the services you desire (many services require a data plan, even if the method of access is only WiFi).
    Good luck!

  • Airport network connected on full bars but "no internet connection" and missing lock icon!

    this is really frustrating!
I'm using wireless in my house. when i click on my network it connects and it shows perfect connection which is full bars.
on Network Preferences it says that i'm connected to the Airport but when i go to Safari it shows "You are not connected to the Internet" so i click on Network Diagnostic where the 3 network status on top has the green indicator but the ISP, Internet and Server show red and failed.
I don't think there's anything wrong with my internet connection since I'm able to go online using my sister's computer and also on my iPhone.
There's also usually a Lock icon/symbol next to my network's name but when i'm connected to my network the Lock icon seems to be missing but it still shows full bars connection. I really don't get how it's possible to be connected to a network, but no internet connection, while i can access the internet on other devices.
Please help me out here. I've tried ways like going to library>preferences then put the system configuration into Trash, and going to Network Preferences and removing the Airport service and creating a new one.
and one more thing. all mentioned above are when i clicked on Advanced on network preferences then i clicked on TCP/IP and changed the Configure IPv4 from Using DHCP to Manually. When i'm back to using DHCP there's an exclamation point over the airport icon on the top bar and it says no internet connection.

Got my own question answered by a colleague.
He had me create another "Location" in the network pane of System Preferences, then choose it and click Apply. I created a new location which I called 'Airport', chose it and clicked Apply and sure enough, an IP address showed up and all is well.
Justin said it's a network bug in Leopard.

  • Airport Express signal fine but no internet connection

We have been using an Airport Express for wireless Internet access and recently are unable to connect to the Internet. We use a Comcast cable modem, through a Linksys router, to the Airport Express. We can connect by network cable to the router and access the Internet, but are unable to connect wirelessly. We are getting a signal from the Airport Express (the light is green), but no Internet connectivity. We have restarted and done a hard reset (holding the reset button while plugging the Airport Express in) of the Airport Express, but it did not seem to help. The hard reset did not result in resetting the settings, so perhaps there is another way to reset it or perhaps there is another problem.
    Has anyone had similar problems?

I tried power cycling the cable modem, downloading new firmware (why didn't Software Update tell me about this?), deleting the DNS servers, hard reset of AirPort Express, factory reset of AirPort Express, fiddling with AirPort Admin Utility, fiddling with AirPort Setup, all of the above in different order and different combinations, and it still would not work.
Power cycling the cable modem was one of the first things I did, and that resulted in getting Internet connection through the cable modem onto the ethernet cable; just no Internet through AirPort. Finally, after a factory reset of the AirPort Express did not help, I decided to power cycle the cable modem again, even though I had already just confirmed again that I was getting the Internet through the ethernet cable. Once the cable modem finished the power cycle, it finally worked! I was back on the Internet via AirPort!
I'm not exactly sure which solution fixed it for me, but I suspect that it didn't work at first because I did not power cycle the cable modem afterwards. In other words, if after changing AirPort settings you still are not connected to the Internet, try power cycling the cable modem. Do this every time for each change you make to the AirPort settings.
The other thing I learned is that unplugging the cable modem from the wall power outlet or turning off the power strip will NOT power cycle the cable modem properly. Instead, you must remove the power cord from the cable modem. I tried all three of these methods and for whatever reason, the only time it worked was by removing the power cord.

  • Wirelessly Connected But No Internet!

    Hi,
I have run into my second problem trying to connect this new Airport Base Station.
All my wired computers have internet connection but my laptop connecting wirelessly has none!
It is connected to my wireless network and the connection has perfect signal. I am not using WEP so I can't see what the problem would be!
If anyone can offer assistance, it would be appreciated !
    Thanks,
    slevytam

I have been having problems with my MacbookPro connecting to the internet ever since I come on to Verizon FIOS service. The service comes with a 802.11G router as part of the package. it is set up with WEP security. It often takes me 4 or 5 tries for the airportin my Mac to recognize and connect to the router. I have not ad any problems connecting to public routers in places like Caribou coffee or Pannera restaurants nor have I had problems connecting to restricted networks with passwords (specifically the National Science Foundation internal network). Last night I downloaded the latest upgrade to my airport software from Apple and the result was no connection at all. Later today I have been able to connect but I am concerned as to what the problem might be. Another (windows) computer in the same household has no problem connecting.
Does anyone have any thoughts on thisw?
    Thanks for any input.

  • Connected to network, but no internet connection

Just returned from a one week trip to CA with my macBook. Prior to the trip everything regarding a connection to the internet worked fine... I have an Airport Extreme network set up at home. For the first five days of my trip, everything worked fine as well. Connected to several different open networks (offered by hotels and Bed & Breakfasts (B&Bs). Then suddenly I could not get an internet connection with any browser (Safari, Firefox, Flock). At one particular B&B it worked flawlessly one evening, then the next morning at the same B&B, no internet. Yet I was connected OK to the open network. Moved on to another city, a different hotel and network, same problem. I was connected to the network, but no internet connection. In Safari, the blue bar would get as far as the http:, then it would hang there. Now having returned home to my Airport Extreme network, everything seems to be working fine again in all browsers. Any idea what I may have encountered for those two days? I have another trip planned in the near future, and would hate to have this happen again.

I'm sorry but I'm not posting to answer your problem but just to say that I have a very similar issue when connected to my home network through either wireless or ethernet- connection is erratic and pages hang despite showing an excellent signal strength. I have a divided drive and have windows installed on my Macbook. I have no problems on the windows side. My friends who have ipods and iphones have similar problems connecting to my home network. I have no problems connecting wirelessly to any other network that I've tried. This is a real shame as I want to use Mac software but end up in Windows all the time. Any light anyone can shed on this would be very welcome.
