Airport connects but won't transfer data

I've got the latest macbook pro and it's been working flawlessly since release. However just today inexplicably Airport has stopped working. When I go to network diagnostics, under Network Status i get a Failed status for "Internet" and a Failed status for "Server".
I've restarted, disabled/enabled several times. I really have no idea how this could have happened. The problem is definitely not physical-- when I run win7 in boot camp the wireless works just fine. Is it possible for me to reinstall the airport drivers?

no definitely not
as i said, it works fine when running win 7 in boot camp. Also all other computers in household use wireless just fine.
it's just my installation of osx, and it's just wireless. if i connect with an ethernet cable it works fine.

  • Networking locks up regularly - can connect but can't transfer data

About once a day the networking on my Imac G5 dies. I can make outgoing TCP connections which connect to their remote destination, but no data is retrieved.
For example, trying to retrieve a web page from a server on my LAN:
    telnet 10.0.1.7 80
    Trying 10.1.0.7...
    Connected to 10.1.0.7.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    GET / HTTP/1.0
...at this stage I get no data back (normally I get a page of HTML).
The web server sees my GET request and sends a packet of data back. But it never gets an ACK for that packet so it keeps retrying. Eventually both ends time out.
This problem affects all TCP connections - POP-3, Imap, HTTP, ssh.
Once my Imac is in this state the only option available to me is to restart it. And often it will hang during the restart with a blank screen and I will have to physically power it off with the switch.
Please can somebody offer some advice on how to diagnose this problem? It is driving me mad having to reboot my Mac so many times.
    Thanks!

Your HTTP request is incomplete - the server is waiting for more data, therefore your test is in valid.
That's not to say there isn't a problem, but that the information provided does not lead to that conclusion.
    You're issuing:
    <pre class=command>GET / HTTP/1.0</pre>
and the HTTP/1.0 nature of the request REQUIRES a corresponding host header so that the server can determine the site you're trying to access. This is commonly used by servers running virtual hosting, where multiple sites run on the same server.
The appropriate request should look more like:
    GET / HTTP/1.0
    HOST:your.site.com
(note the extra return after the last header - this tells the server there's nothing more to come)
The addition of the host header is the key (the actual data may or may not matter, depending on the site in question).

Do you mean you can't stream movies etc. You can only play media over Airplay, you can't share data from other apps.

  • Games and podcasts are showing up in my source list but won't transfer

My son just upgraded from an ipod shuffle to a nano 2nd gen. I have downloaded the latest version of itunes. He bought a game and got some podcasts. They show up in the source list but won't transfer to the nano. I have tried restoring the nano but that did not help. Any suggestions?

Make sure to enable podcasts on the iPod nano. When you plug it in pick the iPod nano in the source list and then click on the podcasts tab. Then enable the transfer of the ones you want. I believe that the games are only playable on the 5th gen iPod not the nano. Sorry about that

I suspect that you are saying that you can't download/install the latest version of iTunes.
All I can say is try removing and reinstalling the Apple software using the following:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
If you have further problems with installing Itunes I suggest you post in the iTunes forum since you have an iTunes problem, not an iPod problem.  Also report the wording of any error messages. What they say is importent on resolving them.

  • Airport Card finds network and says connected but won't let me on internet!

My airport is on and finds a network, shows full strength of signal (like it's done for the past 8 months). But it has stopped letting me onto the internet. Safari and Mail hang and say they are not connected. If I go ahead and plug the ethernet cable in (from same network) it starts up fine. I live in a hotel and have done the same thing for 8 months, why today would it start doing this? Can anyone help. This is my first mac and I haven't the foggiest how to deal with this. I've turned airport off, restarted, turned it back on etc. It always finds a signal and says it's ready, but won't let me onto the internet. Thanks for any help you have.

Is the internet service also password protected? (As in, do you need a password for both the wireless and for the internet connection?) If so, then when you run the "assist me" option you should set up a PPP connection. That's my situation but I still have problems with it remembering my settings after rebooting or disconnecting...

  • Contribute Won't Transfer Data

After working well some weeks ago, Contribute CS3 now says it
is not able to transfer data, so I can't access my site to edit. It
does state that it can connect to the server, but then nothing
happens. I've had to recreate a connection profile with the ftp
info and url, but still nothing. The message suggests my firewall
is to blame but those settings are the same as when the program was
working fine. Needless to say, I'm perplexed.
    Any thoughts?
    Joe

I've learned that my firewall is evidently the culprit which
is surprising since I've never encountered this before while the
    firewall has been on.
Since I'm on a Mac using 10.4, what settings in my
Preferences should I utilized to allow for access while the
    firewall is on?

  • Macbook pro has wifi connected but won't open internet - says computer offline - works fine on ethernet and other pc's

    computer one year old.

He advised me to 'back up' everything and 'reformat' the computer.
I have been looking at how to do these tasks - not 100% on both.
The quickest way to do this is to create a clone copy of your existing internal Macintosh HD. You can create this copy using applications like Data Backup, Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper!.
I use an external USB HDD for the clone copies.
The following AppleInsider article will give you an idea on how to use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a clone backup of your Mac's hard drive.

  • Airport connected but can't get internet....PLEASE HELP!!!

I am a college student who went to college and used an apple airport base station for my mbp and everything worked fine, and before i went to school i used my parents linksys wireless router and it all worked fine. i came home from college today and used the internet (over the linksys router) for about 5 minutes, then came back a few hours later. after i came back my computer said i was connected via airport to the linksys router but i cant load any page at all with any internet browser, also aim and msn messenger wont work. when i get on the internet i get this message "safari can’t open the page “http://www.yahoo.com/”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message." i can connect if i plug my mbp in and i have tried the network diagnostics for airport several times, and it comes back saying that i am connected and it is all working fine, but its not. any help would be great. thanks.

I have the same problem...New MacBook Pro connects fine to Airport at home. Shows connected to WPA network at work but no Internet connectivity - or it takes a VERY long time to pull anything up. Have run the Network Diagnostics successfully and Mac thinks it is connected, but still not able to reach web sites.
Have followed instructions here: Article ID: 106799 Mac OS: Long Delay Before Web Pages Start to Load, Then Load Suddenly at Normal Speed without success. Can hardwire my MacBook Pro and use the network in this way.

  • Airport connected but no interent

    Hi
I intalled an airport in my home using a wireless ethernet connection (web os) which normally works fine when connected straight into a windows laptop. But when i connect the ethernet into the airport and connect to it over wifi i can see the airport but it refuses to connect to the interent? I know the airport works over this wireless ethernet network as i tested it at a neighbours house. So its not a problem with the airport but rather the connection which wont give the airport what it needs to connect to the interet.
i am waiting for a new macbook air which arrives next week so want to get the wireless working before i switch
Can anyone offer assistance even my wireless network provider is baffled or just stupid!?

I have tried reseting the DNS server as someone in another discussion recommended but that didnt help, also reset the airport express but no help, is this a settings issue or my internet provider's issue?

  • Airport connects, but still no internet activity...

Heya. This is my first post so be gentle with me.
I've recently had an issue with my Powerbook G4 12 inch where I could connect to an open wireless network (no WEP password) and my internet would function fine, until the past three days when Airport says it's connected but I can't browse the internet, use BitTorrent etc.
Now when I open Firefox, it doesn't go immediately to a "page cannot be displayed" dialog, it just keeps looking for the page for a few minutes. Also, when I run network diagnostics, everything is green until "internet".
I don't have access to the modem or router base station.

I just posted my own experience in the forum "internet, networking and Power Mac G4" which is the same as the one of nofryzone. In that discussion, I think Lawrence Kahan has the answer to our problem. I will still have to try his proposed solution because it will entail changing the firmware of the linksys wrt54g router. In order to connect, I asked the help of [email protected] and they made me configure my airport connection manually placing the values that Lawrence Kahan wrote in his post. You will have to open system preferences and click on network. Configure Airport settings manually and enter the IP address 192.168.1.55, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, router 192.168.1.1. For the DNS server, you will have to get the value of DNS1 & DNS2 of your router and put them in the field for DNS server.
At least for now I am able to connect but through a static IP address and not through DHCP.
