Airport & D-link DI-624

Hello. I've just bought a macbook.
And rest of my family are using PC.
So, is it possible to combine Airport/Airtunes and a Wireless D-link router (802.11g, 802.11b Compatible? Web: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=6 .
I was planning to play my media wireless and at the same time using my D-link as internet connection.
The best thing would be if Airport with airtunes could be used as a extender to my router (d-link).
Anyone know if that's possible to combine?

...is it possible to connect a ethernet
cable to AX and by doing that, provide xBox 360 with
internet connection.
Well... there's good news and bad news:
Good news: That is possible when
connecting the AX wireless via WDS to another WDS
compatible base station.
Bad news: Your
D-Link router is not compatible with WDS so you can't
do this with your D-Link.
Okey! Well, since my D-link is connected to my adsl modem.
And I know that the AX with Airtunes has a ethernet input cable.
This is how it will be set up. Modem>D-link >(upstairs) Airport with Airtunes.
And since I will be upstairs with both my MacBook and Xbox 360, my thought was that if I connect an ethernet cable from Airport (with Airtunes) to my xbox 360. It should work.
D-link supports xbox online gaming so there's no catch in that, my worries is in airport with airtunes.
That's how it will all be set up. Now, before ordering: Will it work?

  • Airport extreme wont connect to my d-link DI-624 router--WHY!?!?

OK-- i have a d-link DI-624 wireless router hooked up to my ethernet router on my imac g4/ 800mhz gooseneck. i have a mac book pro with airport extreme-- when i set up a closed network with WEP i could log in the password, get a strong signal and connect via the airport card but when i tried to open safari, it said i wasn't connected to the internet. when i made it an open network, no problem. why can i join the closed network, get a signal, but not connect to the internet.
i tried the network setup assistant but no luck. any ideas? i am new to wireless routers so any suggestions as to why this is happening and how to solve would be greatly appreciated!

...when i set up a closed
    network...
Don't do that. Disabling the broadcast of the SSID
(network name) may make you feel secure but it is a
false sense of security. The network name is still
    broadcast and easily detected.
Why do you have 2 routers? Why not replace your
"ethernet router" with the DI-624? It will support
    both Ethernet and wireless clients.
So are you saying I should just leave the network open? I don't mind sharing my wi-fi connection but I want my computers to be secure. I set it up to have WEP so I could share with friends. I still don't understand why my airport card in my macbook pro will pick up the open network but not the closed (even though i can log the WEP and it shows maximum signal strength).
Will the settings on OS X Tiger's firewall be the most effective or do i need to configure the wireless router's firewall as well?
I am a newbie to wireless routers and to answer your question about two routers, I was following what the directions from the DI-624 manual said to do. What you are saying makes total sense in that respect.

  • Cannot connect from WinXP via D-LINK DI-624 to Airport Express

Had Verizon FIoS installed yesterday which came with a D-LINK DI-624 Wireless Router. Before this I had a Linksys WRT54G. With the Linksys configuration, I was able to update my Airport Express (2 of them) and able to connect ITunes to play music.
With the D-LINK, I use the same procedure to update the AX, but it will still does not connect. I have updated the firmware in the AX to 6.3 and updated Airport ADMIN to 4.2.
Just looking for some help to get the AX configured correctly.

With the D-LINK, I use the same procedure to update
the AX, but it will still does not connect. I have
updated the firmware in the AX to 6.3 and updated
    Airport ADMIN to 4.2.
    Are you using WEP?
Even with what seems to be the same password, you may find that the HEX key has in fact changed.
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

    Network setting - yellow
    Isp - red (failed)
    Internet - Red
    Server - Red
is there any setting that i need to change, my airport for some reason is automatically connecting to the router but nothing is working. i ahve a password on my router does that make any diffeence.
someone please help me i am totally stuck
    thank you
    matt

It's good you know the router address. Are you saying that your PC isn't connecting to the router's 192.168.0.1 address? Or your MBP?
I was suggesting connecting to the 192.168.x.x address with your PC so you can manipulate the settings.
Try from your PC, and change the encryption to WPA (which means as soon as you make this change, your PC will need to be updated with the WPA pass phrase). Macs tend to work better with non-WEP encryption IIRC.
EDIT: BTW - I use WPA-PSK [TKIP] for my encryption

  • Airport extreme and DI-624 big problems

heya. setting up a wireless home network. 2 laptops, one WindowsXP and a Powerbook G4 with built in airport wifi. Router is a d-link DI-624. latest firmware on the router. cable internet connection.
Router is set up with no security, pretty much all default options (channel 6 , mixed b/g mode) the Windows XP pc connects no problems. But the instant i turn on the Airport on the powerbook, the router will reset itself, and keep resetting itself every 10 seconds or so. if i turn off Airport, everything goes back to normal for the router.
tried using an ethernet cable, the exact same thing happens. router resets itself instantly and keeps resetting itself. so it's not just a wireless issue. i can only deduce its a setting on either the mac or the router that isnt compatible.
Under the Airport section i can actually see the the SSID of my network but it can't connect to it (router always rebooting itself).
any special options i need to change in the router, or on the mac? all help appreciated.

Based on a search of this issue on the internet, this seems to an often reported problem with the DI-624. Did you just purchase this router - ie can you still return it. If so, I suggest you get a different make/model. There is no need to put up with this sort of hassle when there are so many other great wireless router products out there.

  • Can't mount D-Link DI-624S Wireless Storage Router Hard Drive

I have a D-Link DI-624S Wireless Storage Router that has two USB2 ports for adding external hard drives. I have an older iMac, running jaguar, connected to the router via an ethernet cable and I have a MacBook Pro, running tiger, connected to the router wirelessly.
The iMac mounts the USB drive as it should, but the MacBook Pro can't. I get a dialogue box titled, " SMB/CIFS File System Authentication" with the Workgroup field set to "MYGROUP", the name field set to my name and the password field left blank. But no matter what I type in, the password is not accepted. Nowhere in the router settings can I add users and passwords, yet, when I connect using the iMac, a blank password field mounts the drive. This problem persists even when I plug the MacBook Pro directly to the router. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

rootb, Welcome to the discussion area!
The D-Link router is not compatible with WDS. Therefore you will not be able to use the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to wirelessly extend the network created by the D-Link.

  • HT201335 I want to watch an iTunes rental video on my MacBook Pro but stream the sound to my Airport Express linked speakers.  However re Airplay icon doesn't show up in iTunes when playing the rental video.  Is there a way around that?

I want to watch an iTunes rental video on my MacBook Pro but AirPlay the audio to my AirPort Express linked speakers.  However the AirPlay icon isn't available when arching the rental video in iTunes.   Is there another way?  Do I need to but an AppleTV?  I don't own a TV, hence why I want to watch on my MacBook Pro.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
With or without an Apple TV you can't send video to one device and audio to another using AirPlay.

  • D211 & D-Link DI-624+

My "Nokia D211 WLAN/GSM/GPRS" PCMCIA card sees all sorts of Wi-fi networks in my neighbourhood but not my own. I am using a D-Link DI-624+ wireless router. My "Linksys Wireless-G" PCMCIA card works fine. Are there any known incompatibilities between the Nokia D211 and D-Link?
    Many thanks for your help

Are you using the latest software (available here: http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4222117 ) as I couldn't connect my D211 to Wi-Fi until I got this upgrade. Also are you using WEP encryption? as this makes the setup more difficult. :-)

  • Unable to connect to D-Link DI-624 (ver.C) using iBook G4

This question is on behalf of my friend. I tried to get her iBook G4 onto the D-Link DI-624 Wireless network but was unable to access the internet. Wired is fine though. The router is setup with WEP 40bit ASCII passphrase and is broadcasting the SSID, but for some reason as soon as the iBook's Network DHCP grabs a valid IP address, the wireless connection is lost (ie. antenna dims). Additionally, when the iBook momentarily connects to the wireless network, her Windows PC's lose network connection, then vice-versa. I found this to be very strange, and have never come across this problem before with any other router. Any ideas?
Here's her configs from what I remember:
    - WEP 40bit ASCII
    - Channel 6
    - Router is using DHCP
    - 1 Wintel machine hard-wired
    - 2 Wintel machines using wireless
    - iBook G4 can access any other router perfectly fine (ie. Library, School, Coffee Shops, etc)
Thanks in advance for any help.

I expect you may have figured this out by now...but in case you didn't I had a similar problem getting by iBook back on a DI-624 wireless network.
After much grinding of teeth what ended up working was "simply" resetting the network connection within the iBook's System Preference/Network.
So this is what it finally took me to get back on: I actually reconnected directly to the broadband modem (ethernet) first in order to updated to OS 10.4.4. There are some improvements within security and wireless connections and its been mentioned by a number of others in the discussion groups. There are certainly those who feel the update has created problems but I know plenty of folks who are using it and haven't had any issues.
From the sounds of it you probably know how to reset your iBook network preferences. I also turned off WEP (as suggested by DI-Link) just to make sure I could get the connection back. I also reset the DI-624 to my configuration, which is easy to do within your browser (if you don't have your quick start manual you can get on line from DLink). I then re-configured the iBook's network preferences again to make ApplePort as the priority connection and shut down the laptop.
Powered off the broadband modem for at least a couple of minutes. Powered down the DI-624 for a minute or so and then back on. Powered up the modem. When the modem recycling was completed I powered up the laptop.
At that point the reconnection to the network was back. After I reconnected wirelessly I went back in and reset the WEP. I shut down the laptop, powered down the modem again and back on after a couple of minutes. It seems like a unnessary step but in previous experience recycling the broadband connection got everything working in sync. Powered up the iBook and everythings back to working....knock on wood. It's been working fine for the past couple of weeks without a hitch (or hick-up)

  • Problems connecting my Powerbook G4 to a D-Link DI 624 access point

I am unable to connect my Powerbook G4 to my D-Link DI 624 wireless router.
    Here's my setup:
128 bit (HEX) WEP Encryption (Key Index 4)
    MAC Filtering
    "Static" DHCP
    Here's what i've done:
Added the Powerbook's on board ethernet and wireless MAC's to the MAC Filter's table
Assigned both adapters a static IP
Configured both to look at my router's IP
Copied the HEX key (verbatim) while configuring the wireless adapter
Here's the skinny... The onboard NIC works. The wireless does not.
Please tell me what i'm doing wrong. I know it's my router's configuration because I successfully connected to a friends router without any problmes.
They are using a Linksys with DHCP and encryption.
I tried changing my setting on my router to resemble my firends to no avail. I resorted in restoring my router's config from backup.
I'm a PC Tech/ Network Engineer who is treading in new territory with my G4. So far i'm wondering what in the **** took me so long to convert! However, i'm glad that I did.
IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND HAVE ANY INSIGHT ON MY SITUATION, PLEASE HELP!!!

You certinly have me mystified. I have a D-Link DL624 wireless router. I plugged my dsl modem into it, plugged it in to the wall, opened the lid of my powerbook, and it connected. I just thought it was supposed to be that easy!
    Sorry I wasn't much help

  • Using D-Link DI-624 Router for "G" Wireless Purposes

I want to use an old D-link router in another part of the house to provide wireless "G" connectivity to my older devices, so I can use 5 GHz band for "N" connectivity exclusively via my Airport Extreme (Older version, not Gigabit).
I go upstairs, plug the D-Links WAN port to the jack that connects to one of the Airport Extreme's LAN ports downstairs. I shut off dhcp server on the D-Link. I turn on the D-link's wireless capability (unencrypted for now, just for testing).
When I plug a computer in to one of the LAN jacks of the D-Link, I have full connectivity to the internet. And I see the wireless signal from the D-Link which has a unique SSID. Unfortunately, while I can connect to the D-Link wirelessly, I cannot get to the internet.
I'm sure I have something configured wrong.
    Questions:
    1. I have the Airport Extreme set to hand out ip addresses in the 10. range. Should I set up the D-Link router to get a static IP address from the Airport Extreme? How do I do that. Some sites suggest a 10 series IP address, but outside the range of the DHCP addresses that the Airport Extreme usually hands out.
    2. Any ideas on configuring the DI-624? I've shut off DHCP server (everyone says to do that). But Are there any other settings?
    3. Some tech help sites suggest not using the WAN Port at all on the D-link, but rather, connect to one of the LAN ports. Does this make any sense? Going from one of the LAN ports on the Airport Extreme to one of the D-Link's LAN ports.
    4. Once I get the wireless G network running, I'll fix the encryption.
I think that in order to answer this question you'll need some first hand knowledge of the DI-624. Unfortunately, the DI-624 is now a discontinued product and there is little information available on D-link's web site.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    kenny

If a Mac plugged into a LAN port on the D-Link gets internet access, the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and D-Link are both configured properly.
The wireless side of the D-Link should also be acting properly since LAN access is working.
The most likely problem is that your Mac has incorrect DNS information in the System Preferences->Network preference pane->AirPort area.

  • No internet access of MacBookPro and D-Link DI-624, please help.

    Hello there,
My week 13 build MBP cannot connect to internet, please advice me what I can do (in both MBP settings and router settings) to make internet connection stays ON.
I have been struggling with this problem for weeks. I am a new Mac user, and I thought I messed up my system settings in the beginning, therefore I even go to extreme to redo the recovery back to factory condition. Before the recovery, internet works, but not so often. Right after the recovery process, the internet still don't work.
I have tried like some other threads says to add a $ sign before the WEP P/W, no help. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I have purposely enter an invalid p/w for the WEP, and Airport still accepts it, or adding the $ sign before a valid p/w. Both situations the Airport shows I am connected to my home network........that really beats me.
After a few more trys with a valid p/w, last night it finally works. I can swear nothing out of ordinary did I do this time, just happens. But after a restart of computer, the internet access is gone aagain.
Before the recovery, the system is 10.4.6, with the CD that comes with my computer, the recovery system is 10.4.5. I have seen from other threads that some users after upgrading to 10.4.6, their internet drops, IS THAT TRUE? But the thing is, after my recovery with 10.4.5, my internet doesn't work right off the bet.
Any DI-624 and MBP users out there who have made theirs units work, please help and respond.......thanks in advance.

Thanks for replying and the advice you offer.
    The connection still won't work.
What I did is first connect a cable from my MBP to the router, then using a PC to web configure the router settings. (BTW, my firmware is the latest one 2.70)
Disable : Super G Mode, Extended Range Mode, 802.11g Only Mode and all Security.
    Enable: SSID Broadcast
Then turn on the MBP, go to System Preferences – Network:
    Location: Automatic
    Show: Built-in Ethernet
    Under tab TCP/IP:
    Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    IP Address: 192.168.0.xxx
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.x
    Router: 192.168.0.x
DHCP Client ID: blank (don’t know what that is?)
DNS Servers: blank (don’t know what that is?)
    Search Domains: blank
    IPv6 Address: xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx
Click Renew DHCP Lease, same values shown.
Turn web browser on, not connected.
Did I do or enter anything wrong? I have not re-enter the wireless security yet since the wired connection is not working.
But I did notice something in the router setup for security:
Security options are Disable, WEP, WPA, WPA2 (my choice), and WPA2-Auto
Then anytime you select either WPA, WPA2, or WPA2-Auto, they will show the following choices:
Cipher Type [(TKIP, by default, and my choice), or (AES)]
PSK/EAP [ (PSK, by default and my choice), or (EAP)]
    Then enter and reconfirming “passphrase”.
Please indicate if this is something you have. Thanks for the help again.
