Airport disconnect when go to sleep...

I would like to stay connected to my network. When the Mac go to sleep it disconnect and I have to confirm every time my connection. On the other hand my iPhone stay connected and the PC laptop of my girl griend to...

It is normal for the airport to shut off during sleep. While the MBA is waking from sleep, there is a period while the wifi scans and the computer wakes where it is not connected to the network. This is all normal but may seem stranger since the LED backlight gives you bright display so much quicker than any other computer. The MBA and airport still need wake up time before there is ready response to input.

  • Airport disconnect when switching users

I recently changed the password for my airport in an attempt to connect my son's new PSP to my network. (I needed a longer password to mimic a PC network.) After deciding I couldn't make it work I decided to go back to my old basestation password. Nothing was changed but the password using the airport utility program. After doing so I find my airport disconnects when fast switching users. It reconnects fine if I choose it as my network but I need to manually reconnect each time I switch from one user to another. It does it with my new Macbook as well. I've tried every setting I can find using the utility. I've reset my basestation and set it up as a new network. I used to be able to stay connected for days and now it drops whenever I switch users. I've already heard I may need to upload my basestation software again but haven't done so yet (I need to find it first) Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for responding... I've done that more than once. I reloaded the latest AP software and now have it so that I only need to connect one time when my G4 and Macbook are powered up for the day. They stay logged on throughout several fast user switches. I can live with this although my computers used to find the network by themselves each day when first powered up. I've decided I can live with it. Thanks again.

  • Airport disconnected after waking from sleep

Hi... I posted what follows below a couple months back and am still having the same problem so I decided to put it out there again with a little more information...
Though not always, still most of the time when I allow my MacBook Pro to go to sleep, when I wake it up I am nearly always disconnected from my Airport connection (I connect to a NetGear wireless router via my internal Airport card). I go up to the menu bar and click on the now grey airport icon and I do still see my network in the list of available networks. I click on it, after several seconds a message comes up that says "there was an error joining the Airport network "network name""... But I then simply click on OK (rather than Try Again, I've learned that by trial and error) and the network reconnects just fine... Then when I let the machine sleep again at some later time, I do that all again... Any suggestions of what might be going on??? I do have "Use Interference Robustness" turned on (not that I know why exactly) but I've also had it off before and that seems not to matter...
One response I got when I posted the above a couple of months ago suggested that with respect to the question (in Airport settings) of "By Default, join??" that I set that to "Preferred Networks" (which I have done for the past two months) rather than what I had that set to before, which was "Automatic"... But the same problem still persists... And what might be causing the deal where I get the above mentioned error message and yet hitting OK always causes the Airport card to go ahead and connect??? The other option of "Try Again" would have left me spinning my wheels forever had I not once discovered by trial and error that clicking "OK" was my path to getting connected...
    Any suggestions??? thanks... bob..

When the MBP goes to sleep all of the non-essential
hardware is turned off. That includes the Airport
hardware. When you wake it up it has to establish a
new connection. The problem that you are having
establishing a new connection is exactly the way mine
has worked since day 1 (10 months ago). It does not
matter if it was sleeping or completely off. I end
up clicking on retry for up to 30 times to get it to
connect. This is only true if I am using the
battery. If I am on AC power when the MBP is turned
on, it always connects immediately. Either the power
supplied to the Airport hardware is different when on
AC power or the AC power cord is acting as a
supplemental antenna. I have tried all of the
"fixes" reported here and none of them have done
anything to solve the problem. I am using WPA
security. It is not a case of a corrupted key since
it always connects immediately when on AC power.
Windows XP under Bootcamp always connects immediately
on battery so I lean toward the insufficient power to
the Airport hardware when running on battery theory.
    Hi Retired Engineer
My brand new apple computer behaves exactly as you describe it. My wife's notebook PC with WInXP does not.
It was driving me nuts for a couple of days until I found your reply and tested in wich situations connection is lost. It still drives me nuts but at least now I know when it will happen (when on battery power) and when the computer will behave normally (when on AC power).
Apple, please solve this very annoying problem ASAP!!!

  • Airport disconnects when there's more than one device

I've got a really weird problem.. I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n 3rd Generation. Software version 7.6 When more than one device connecrts to the base station it will disconnect everyone and then all devices will go into a connect/disconnect loops. Rapidly. This occurs only with wireless device. I watched the radar on my iPhone (5.1), Macbook running Snow Leopard, Macbook Air running Lion, and iPad 2 (5.1) blinking on and off, on and off. The only way to resolve this is to just have ONE person connect at a time.
    Things I've tried:
    1) Updating all software on all devices
    2) Updating Airport firmware
    3) Reboot and then restoring factory settings on the Airport when the reboot didn't work
    4) Turning off encryption (WP2)
    5) Making sure there are enough IP's for all the devices, turning off robustness, making sure the router is visible.
Because I know someone will ask this: The Airport sits atop a credenza in the open air. Nothing on, around, or above it. It's been in this position for months with no problem. It's not overly warm to the touch and I even used compressed air to blow out the vents (just in case) when this problem began.
I read once upon a time that the router gets a cache built up and that can cause these types of issues, but I have no idea how to delete said cache or even if it exists. It's just odd this only happens when more than one wireless device tried to connect to the network.
    Thoughts?

I've resolved this! For some odd reason Apple won't let me denote this so I'm adding this reply. Turns out the problem was POWER related. The Airport was plugged into a power strip with several other devices. I unplugged all of those leaving just the Airport and the problem has not returned. If I add on all the devices, regardless of the power strip used, the problem returns. So it appears the Airport was just not getting enough power.
I've got it on a UPS now and the problem has not returned.

  • MacBook can't see Airport Express when waking from sleep

    Hi,
I have an airport express unit specifically for using with air tunes. I am find that every time my macbook wakes from sleep although it reconnects to my wireless network ok it (and therefore itunes) can't see the AX anymore.
Rebooting the AX unit fixes the problem and i can again stream from itunes but i dont want to have to reboot the AX each time beacuse my MacBook goes in and out of sleep 5+ times a day as i move it around the house.
I am not having any issue with audio drop out or stuttering as mentioned by others, nor does the ax stop working once streaming has begun.
    My Setup is:
    MacBook OSX 10.4.11
    Airport Express (latest firmware)
BeBox wireless router (rebranded speedtouch) running WPA2 security
Any suggestions on what i can do to stop this recurring?

I've recently developed a similar problem. When my PowerBook G4 wakes from sleep it can no longer see the Airport Express. It still connects to the Internet, and the AX continues to shine a steady green light. I've written an Automator script that restarts the router, and once it reboots the AX shows up again in iTunes or the AirPort utility.
Customer service for my router claims this is an issue with the AX. Anyone have any ideas?
    Computer: PowerBook G4, 10.5.2

  • Airport Disconnects When It "snoozes"

I have a 12" and 17" PB operating on MAC OS X. When the screensaver comes on, my wireless connnection shuts-off. When I get back on, I must turn Airport Off, and then tun Airport On to re-connect. I thought I had the same settings as my iMac G5 (which stays connected) even when it "snoozes". How can I get the PB's to stay connected even when they snooze?

There is a difference between display and whole computer sleep. Most likely your desktop is set to only put the monitor to sleep whereas the pb is set to put the whole computer to sleep. When the whole computer sleeps, then the connection is lost. Now if you are putting the pb to sleep by closing the lid, it must put the hard drive and whole computer to sleep to prepare for possible transport. This also occurs if you select sleep from the apple menu. I avoid this by using the energy saver menu to set-
    put computer to sleep- never
put display to sleep- 5 mins
This way you pb's monitor will sleep in five minutes, but will always stay connected to the airport. However, this does drain slightly more battery to only sleep the display. Finally, if you use password protection to wake you computer from sleep, you must insure that the screen saver is set to be password protected and kicks on before the display sleeps in order for you computer to be protected. Display only sleep does not provide password protection on wakeup. Good Luck!

  • Airport disconnect when switch users

I have two G-4's. One a laptop, the other a desktop. Here's the situation, I'm on line using airport. My partner needs to use the computer so she just switches users. This leaves me logged in and only having to switch back. Sadly, when i return to my log in, the airport connection has been terminated and I have to reselect it. It comes right back on but it is a pain if I'm downloading something. As I said, we have a G-4 laptop with the exact same configuration but it does not do this. Anybody know why or how to fix it.
    Theo

have you tried removing the /library/preferences/systemconfiguration folder and restarting the computer?? after this you have to reconfigure the settings in system preferences > network, so make sure you know what they are. also, is airport the only thing selected in the network port configurations and at the top of the list?? that could also make a difference. let me know if that makes any difference. • MBP Retina - External Disks consistently disconnect when wake from sleeps

Everytime I wake my MBP from an extended sleep (ie, overnight) it says that all of my external drives (FW 800, USB) were improperly ejected, and this could lead to damage... etc.
They are not ejected or unplugged, they remain connected to MBP. This exact scenario happens when I bring MBP home from work and attach different drives.. If i have an App open like Aperture, it loses it connection to the external FW dirve and cannot find source material, I have to reboot App.

  • Airport disconnects when external firewire drive is connected.

    Hi,
This is a weird one. I bought an external firewire/USB2 enclosure a few days ago which I paired up with Western Digital 320GB drive. I haven't used it a lot as it's only for backups.
Today I was having trouble connecting to my Airport Express network in Windows XP (Bootcamp). Well it was Windows so I just thought it was being flaky. Then when I rebooted into OS X I had the same problem. I thought long and hard trying to work out what was different and pretty soon realised it was the drive. I had it connected to back up the Windows partition. It seems that airport just dies the minute the drive is connected via Firewire (but not USB2).

OK. I know no one answered this one but I'm going to update this just in case anyone has a similar problem.
Seems I jumped the gun (a little).
I hadn't tried both firewire 400 ports on the external drive. I tried the other and the problem disappeared.
So the lesson I've (re)learned is that you should try every possible port/cable configuration possible before seeking help.

  • Workaround for the problem of ultrabay HDD ejecting when waking from sleep

After trying every possible "solutions" with no luck for the problem of the second hard drive always ejecting/disconnecting when waking from sleep in my T530, I've decided to create my own workaround.
This is by no means a definitive solution but a nice workaround that uses little resources on the machine.
The idea is to simply let a program runs constantly from the second hard drive. That way, when the HDD tries to disconnect, Windows is not allowing it and then it stays allways connected.
To make it more thansparent I decided to create a Windows service that starts when Windows boot and stops when Windows shutdown.
This Windows service is very lightweight : it does absolutely nothing and just waits indefinitively.
The trick is that it just have to be started from the second hard drive.
Here is a link to the Windows service, 32-bit and 64-bit, with the source code and scripts to install/uninstall.
Just install it anywhere on the second hard drive (D: in my case).
    https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxusNBl7tTO-Y3J5VDB3d2lQRzg/edit?usp=sharing
Works perfectly for me on my T530 with Windows 7 Pro x64.

Hmm, I have no problem with Ultrabay ejecting HDD when waking from sleep mode. At first, I went down the same
route as you did. For the first few days when I received my T530 I kept an .iso file from Ultrabay HDD always mounted.
But then I disabled all power saving options within Windows and Lenovo Power Manager and it seems to work fine.
Works both with Windows 8 (64-bit) and Windows XP Professional (32-bit).

  • AEBS and AExpress N ethernet bridge disconnects when I sleep MBP??

Hi all this is my first post but im a long time mac user having grown up in a mac house.
anyways im an it guy by profession and ive been working at this issue to no avail so I figured I might come on there and see if any of you have experienced this issue
the issue I get is that when I close/sleep my MBP it disconnects the Airport Express ethernet bridge clients
    NETWORK Info
I run a small business from my home thus I have FiOS (yay 20/20) with a block of 13 static ips that i distribute via DHCP and MAC reservation to allow remote access to my network as well as keep things consistent.
I currently run cat6 from my FiOS ONT to my Airport Extreme Base Station, which i use on a strict N only in 5ghz range as my area is flooded with b/g networks but no n networks (yay again).
I recently acquired an N Airport Express to provide a wireless to ethernet bridge thus extending my network to my entertainment center (ps3 xbox etc)
(extra info: im using n here because i found that b/g limits my internet connection speeds to 7-9 mbps where as my connection is capable of 20. On my n speed network I can get my full bandwidth wirelessly, yes I know there is obviously some bandwidth and throughput loss by going wireless but not as much as a b/g network was giving me)
    NETWORK SETTINGS
On my n network I distribute a range of IP addresses from my static block. I have tried a few different dhcp lease times which definitely improved my initial problem which seemed that it would log me out when the key rotated every 20 min. Currently ive bumped that up to 1 day (i know not as secure id like to set it back to 20min but it seems that when it rotates that it logs me out) and haven't had that specific issue revolving around key rotation again. ive tried the WDS, Extend a network and join a network options with no real difference in behavior when I shut my laptop and for example my GF is playing rock-band online she gets disconnected also worth noting that it seems there is an intermittent DNS issue on the express ie cant find time server even though at that time ethernet clients are able to connect and get dns response
Below is my log from my express base station when the disconnect occurs

  • PPPoE Still Disconnects When Computer Sleeps

With 10.9.2 and again with 10.9.3, PPPoE disconnects when computer sleeps.  This didn't happen with OS 8.x, OS 9.x, OS X 10.2, 10.8.x, 10.9.0, or 10.9.1.  System Preferences>Energy Saver is set for display and computer to sleep after about 12 minutes.  I'd rather not set computer to never sleep.  Please advise and correct for 10.9.4.  Thank you.

I have the same issue. Also after wake-up connecting to PPPoE is a challenge, because it establishes only after 5-7 attemps (Authentication failed). I guess 10.9.3 update causes this.

    HELPPPPPP!!!

You're not the only one.  See here:

The current fix is to turn off sleep mode or use an Ethernet cable.
