AirPort Disk doesn't work with LaCie Mini Hub & Hard Drive

I got my new La Cie Mini Hub and Hard Drive yesterday, backed up the PB and did a reinstall...no problems.
This morning, I hooked my LC into my AEBS went through the setup in AP Utility which saw the drive with no problems. But the AP Drive Utility doesn't see the drive. My AP firmware has been updated, and the software too. I even went through the setup in this posting:

Any ideas that I may have missed?

I am dealing with the same issue, jeppeo. I have a 320 GB Seagate external HD (with both USB and Firewire). The Airport Disk Utility does not recognize the drive. It does, however, recognize my Kingston 1GB USB stick. Thus, I know the system works, it just doesn't seem to be working with the Seagate. It may be that the Seagate, and the LaCie you are using, are simply incompatible with the AEBSN. If that is the case, the only option might be to purchase a drive that is known to be compatible with the AEBSN, or any other drive and simply try plugging it in. I am considering buying a Western Digital drive (as many of their models seem to be compatible) and then testing it out. If it doesn't work, I will return it.

  • New airport express doesn't work with Nintendo DS

I just picked up a new Airport Express. The WEP setting doesn't seem to be standard. Instead it is this Transitional Security Network that doesn't work with the Nintendo DS or the Netgear WG511T card I have. Any ideas on how to get it to work?

yeah, the DS just ***** like that. Nintendo should have given it firmware upgradability.

  • Airport Express doesn't work with Mountain Lion

I installed Mountain Lion and now my airport express doesn't work as a way to play itunes through another set of speakers.
Not only that... but the airport utility doesn't support my airport express.
    Time Machine doesn't work either....
I want my snow leopard back!!!
    Any insight????

I understand that Airport Utility 5.6 must be used to configure it... but that being an older version... I can't install it with the new OS... RRRGGGGGHHHH Mountain Lion!!!  I'm not liking the switch at all.  I've spent more time fixing problems with this ... how can I go back???

  • Install disk doesn't work with Windows Vista

I just bought a new HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw and the install disk isn't compatible with Windows Vista.  Apparently there's no ful feature option for Windows Vista on an HP laptop.  After several hours of work I downloaded several drivers and got the printer to print, but the scan function doesn't work that well without the HP software which hasn't been created for Windows Vista.

I am having a very similar problem but do not have an answer either.  I am running an X61 Type 7676A12 with a Lenovo ACP50 port replicator FRU part number 40Y8160.  I am running Windows XP Pro.  The port replicator has never been very great and would not restore the external monitor picture properly when the laptop had been in sleep mode however it was serviceable if not optimal.  After downloading and installing the October MS security updates the machine would get a BSOD when the port replicator was plugged in.  Remove the replicator and reboot and it worked ok.  Plug it in again and BSOD.  I tried upgrading the drivers from 5.1.4a to 7.1.1.03Aug07 and then to 7.1.2.  No go.  Emailing Targus with the problem got no response.  The port replicator is now relegated to my junk heap of useless rubbish.

  • Airport Extreme doesn't work with VriginMedia's(NTL) DNS

My ISP is Virgin Media (NTL).
When I set up my AEBS, using DHCP & VMs DNS servers (62.253.162.237 & 194.688.4.237), I can see their web site, but I can't access other websites.
Network diagnostics shows: Ethernet, Network Settings, ISP & Server as Green with the Internet as Red.
A couple of calls verified that the Virgin Media support line just weren't interested, saying it was a router problem.
After several frustrating hours trawling through discussion threads & trying the various combinations of powering off/on & changing various settings, I discovered that If I use OpenDNS( 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220), everything works just fine.
But I still am left with the question: why doesn't it work with Virgin Media's DNS?

As for why it doesn't work using the DNS servers that VM provide - it's probably because you are supposed to use the modem to provide the dns servers (this is done automatically when you use dhcp via VM's cable platform). Try removing all dns servers from the AEBS and it should work fine as it will get the correct, read Virgin Media, DNS settings.

  • AirPort Express doesn't work with SB5100

I'm helping a friend set up a new AirPort Express  MC414LL/A Model A1392 (802.11n) with her existing Motorola SB5100 DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem. I was able to setup the AirPort Express from her iPad with a network name and password. Also upgraded the firmware in the AirPort Express. However, the Airport Utility App on my iPad and iPhone connected to the AiPort Express, but showed no connection to the Internet. Furthermore, the PC that had been working fine when connected directly to the SB5100 could not make an Internet connection when connected to the AirPort Express.
I brought the AirPort Express home and connected it to my Verizon FiOS Actiontec modem and it works fine - my iPhone and iPad connect to it and through it to the Internet.
I'm wondering if the SB5100 is incompatible with the AirPort Express??

    It should work.
Power down the modem and leave it powered down for a long time, as much as a half hour or longer is sometimes required. While it is powered down, disconnect its coaxial cable. Literally unscrew it and leave it that way.
Connect the Express to your modem, leave them connected, and do not disconnect them from one another without powering down the modem again.
Re-connect everything including power and let the devices complete their startup sequences. This usually takes a moment or two.
If that does not result in success, "hard reset" the Extreme or Express according to the instructions below and start over from the beginning.
If you still have trouble, contact AppleCare because you have done everything reasonable to get it to work.
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then press and hold its tiny reset button and keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.

  • Airport Express Doesn't Work With Leopard?

I upgraded to Leopard, and am trying to install my new Airport Express. I get an error message saying that Airport Express doesn't support the current OS. Anyone else encountering that?

You shouldn't need to install software unless you buy a base station released -after- the OS you're using was released. Leopard already contains a newer version of software for configuring the Express, AFAIK.

  • 10.4.5 Update Causing Error -36 with LaCie Firewire External Hard drives

I have two LaCie Firewire external drives, one for extra storage and one for backups. Since the 10.4.5 update, I've been unable to copy files consistently from my external drives to my hard drive or other external drives. The disks mount, and run like normal - I have my iTunes library on one drive, and all the tracks play normally. I am able to copy very small files, but anything over a couple mb gives me an error -36. I've run disk utilities etc on the external drives and they appear to be just fine. In order to see if it's an OS problem, I hooked the external drives (in a daisy chain) to my girlfriend's ibook. She's running Jaguar still, and had no problems. So it appears that it's an OS upgrade problem. One note, I didn't disconnect the drives when I ran the upgrade, but then, I never have for upgrades, only full OS installs. Is anyone else having this problem and know of any fixes?

    Libby,
Backup is unable to make a restorable by Disk Utility backup. You can restore pieces of the software as outlined in my FAQ about backing up user data:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
But to be able to restore a backup with Disk Utility, you need a cloning utility to have made the backup.
I suggest starting a new thread here, where someone else could help you out better:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=752&start=0
First off, you'll get a wider audience who may be able to solve your problem. Secondly, responses to you won't confuse the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them. And thirdly, you'll know for certain whether or not a response applies to you.

  • Working with itunes on external hard drive.

    Dear all,
I was wondering is there anyway in which i could store all my music on a external hard drive, because i have too much now on my computer and have run out of space, could i move it over and then work with it from there and still be able to view it in itunes and update my ipod etc?

  • How do I set up Time Machine to work with an Iomega network hard drive?

I have just bought a new iMac having switched from Windows, and am very much a beginner when it comes to all things Apple. Previously I had used my NAS hard drive with my old windows pc. i successfully used it to transfer a lot of data from the old pc to the iMac but can't seem to get it recognised when I try to configure time machine. I have downloaded the latest version of Iomega Home storage manager which appears in the application folder in the dock, but when I click on The HSM icon it just disappears and nothing happens. I can access the drive through the Bonjour service and can see its contents in Finder. I have looked through the forums here but much of the info assumes a level of knowledge that i don't have. Is there an 'idiot's guide' anywhere to enable me to set up time machine to use the network hard drive?

You would probably benefit from a couple of things, first going through these 2 links
Time Machine FAQs & Time Machine Troubleshooting.
If you still have questions there is a TM forum, because TM is part of OS X you will find the forum in the Snow Leopard forum. Click Apple Support Communities and in the search field type Snow Leopard. Once you are in the correct forum you can narrow your search by clicking Refine this list.

  • Airport Express doesn't work with password

I've been having a bizarre problem with my Airport Express lately. One day the internet stopped working so I restarted it a few times with no change. Then I did a hard reset. The internet starting working right after this. Then I tried to configure it to apply a password and all, and when it restarted the internet stopped working again. I've realized it only works when it's in "factory settings" mode, which is ok for now, but I need to put a password on it eventually.
    What's going on here?

I understand that Airport Utility 5.6 must be used to configure it... but that being an older version... I can't install it with the new OS... RRRGGGGGHHHH Mountain Lion!!!  I'm not liking the switch at all.  I've spent more time fixing problems with this ... how can I go back???

  • I need to use an hp 6215 printer with my mac book pro.  the driver installation disk doesn't work.  where can i get a driver that will work?  i use OS X

i need to use an hp 6215 printer with my mac book pro.  the driver installation disk doesn't work.  where can i get a driver that will work?

With the Lion it is essentially unnecessary to resort to external driver disks. What's more, most of those disks are incompatible with the OS and should not be used. The system already carries a wide variety of printer description files (aka PPDs, which is what modern printing systems use as "drivers") for a lot of brands. And there was an HP printer update just two days ago.
Just checked in mine and did indeed find that the HP OfficeJet 6200 Series, with or without Fax, is covered with the latest update.
So just go thru the motions of creating a proper printer instance:
Make sure the Mac "sees" the printer on the network.
System Preferences / Print & Scan
Click on the + button on the left column
Select the appropriate type of printer, will use IP for the rest of this
Select HP Jetdirect - Socket, default for HP network printers
Type the IP address or look it up
Name the printer for easy identification on the print dialog
Let the Mac identify the printer model or manually choose the driver
    Click Add.
Once the instance pops up in the list, can click on Options & Supplies for further config.

  • MacPro eSata Port/Card doesn't work with new Hard Disk

    I just bought 4 x 3TB Hard Disc http://tinyurl.com/d2rglvn (specs of disc)
Which I put in Macally Enclosures to work on my Barracuda internal Hard Drive externally http://tinyurl.com/clg8yjo
I already have like 5 x 1,5 TB that works perfectly well with eSata connections (with exact same enclosures)
**My problem is that my 4 new Hard Discs works really fine with my Mac Pro but only with the USB connections but won't work with the eSata Connection. I tried it on a MacBook Pro with an ATA to eSata adaptor and it works perfectly fine (So my discs are not the problem)  **
I am working on a Mac Pro (bought in 2007) - Mac OSX 10,6,8 and this is (I think) the card where I put the eSata :
    PCI Card :
    pci1095,3132:
      Type:    Other Mass Storage Controller
      Driver Installed:    Yes
      MSI:    No
      Bus:    PCI

      Device ID:    0x3132
      Subsystem Vendor ID:    0x1095
      Subsystem ID:    0x3132
      Revision ID:    0x0001
      Link Width:    x1
      Link Speed:    2.5 GT/s
I am kind of new using Mac and its support so what want to know is :
Do I need to update my PCI Card ? If yes how can I do that ?
If not, what can I do to make my disc work ?
My disks are eSata III (6GB/s) is it compatible with my  Mac Pro ?
Thank you Very Much for your time

Difference between the disk that works in eSata and those that doesnt is this....
    Works : ** 1.5TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5"
    Doesn't Work : **3TB, SATA III (6Gb/s), 3.5", 7200RPM, 64MB
it is probably the problem but i don't know what to do to fix it !

The Utility transferred all of the AE's settings, so I still have to change the password, which leaves me with only 2 other questions, I think:
    1)  I assume it's just a matter of using the Utility, entering a stronger password and checking for it to be remembered in Keychain Access.  But do I have to  change the password for each individual unit-- the TC, the Extreme and both Expresses-- or will changing it just for the TC alone work for the entire network?
Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.
    2)  Who's the treasonous SOB who spilled the beans to you about the ICBM in my back yard?!?
    N.Korean hackers.
[Edit] Whoops-- one more question:  I want to partition the TC's disk, but Disk Utility doesn't see it.  What do I need to do?
You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).
    Look at Q3 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.
