Airport Disk Utility Download (or other program that works)

I just got a 80 GB USB hard drive, and attached it to my Airport Extreme. The three macs in my house picked up the signal easily, displaying it under the Network folder. However, I have no way of connecting the the hard drive on my Vista laptop, as far as I can tell. It seems that I need an Airport Disk Utility in order to make it functional for windows.
The airport disc, which included the program, is long gone. Is there a download for the Airport Disk Utility availible on the internet, or some other program that would be able to connect?
Or, is there some simple way to connect to the hard drive that I'm not aware of?

Yep I discovered the same thing. I dug around until I found my disk(whew!). If I had not found it I had plannned to contact the Apple store. I bet they can either give you a disk or load the utility for you. Give it a try and let us know.

  • HT1331 Why does this article still not indicate that Airport Disk Utility no longer exists?

ADU stopped existing after 10.6. I see this article was updated in May; that means two revisions of OSX which don't contain this utility have been announced or released at that time yet it's still wrong. It's near the top of google rankings, making this a crappy thing to do to your users who are looking for information, Apple.

Yes, you are correct - there is no longer a Airport Disk Utility. It was discontinued. That article was accurate up until 10.7 was introduced.
You cannot call "from the main window of AirPort Disk Utility enable "Show AirPort Disks in the menu bar"" a 'typo' - it is flat-out wrong, as that menu option no longer exists at all. So the instructions can not be applicable.
This could be corrected simply by adding "10.6 and earlier OSX versions" or the like to the products affected list. But leaving this entirely unusable set of unstructions up as it stands is misleading and counter-productive.

  • Any other programs that play downloaded HD movies?

    Hello,
I was curious if there are any other programs that play HD movies downloaded on itunes? I know I can use Quicktime player for SD movies, I guess it isn't designed for HD. I know you can watch the movies in itunes, but was wondering if there are any other programs that I could use as a stand alone?
    thanks for your time.

  • Lost cd of Airport Disk utility 5.0

I lost my cd with the Aiport Disk utility. How can i find the installer for the apps. I chek on the Apple site and i found nothing.
    Help please

Hello mchevalier. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Interestingly, Apple doesn't provide the new AirPort Utility as a download since it's provided on the installation CD that comes with the new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station. Have you tried contacting Apple for a replacement CD?
As an option, here's a workaround...
o Download AirPort Base Station Update 2007-002.
    o Double-click AirPortBaseUtility521.dmg to mount and display it's contents.
o From the AirPortUtility window, right-click on "AirPortUtility.pkg."
o Select "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu.
o In the "AirPortUtility.pkg" window, double-click on the "Contents" folder to open it.
o In the "Contents" window, double-click on the "Archive.pax.gz" file. This will create a new folder on your Desktop, named "Archive." Both the AirPort Utility and the AirPort Disk Utility will be inside Archive/Applications/Utilities folder. You can copy or move them to your Applications folder.

  • Yesterday I downloaded Lion. It looked really nice. I then noticed several of my programs that worked flawlessly in Snow Leopard STOPPED working. One of them was my SilverFast scanning software.A new version would cost $450.00. I am going back to Snow Le

I downloaded Lion yesterday. What a nightmare.
Before even using it, I noticed several of my programs would not work with Lion.
My Appleworks 6 program was dead as well as some other programs that I had been using for yrs. I have a dual core iMac.
If I wanted to open any of my Applework documents I had to open them one at a time and resave them with pages. This could take weeks.I have 1000s of apple work documents.
This was only the tip of the iceberg.
I needed to do some scanning for a client. Well, low and behold my Silverfast scanning software for my Microtek 9800XL would not work.
I went to the SilverFast web page looking for a download to fix this. No such luck. If I wanted to use my scanner with Lion, I would have to purchase a newer version for $450.00.
Then I went to the Microtek web page, nothing there. I called Microtek and they said they were working on the problem but couldn't tell me it would be available.
I called Apple customer support. The person I spoke with, Scott, was able to help me. The solution. I will get a refund doe Lion and for $16.00 they are going to send me Snow Leopard on a disk. Problem here is I have to reformat my drive. I have a full back up with Time MAchine, but he wasn't sure if I would lose some of my programs when this was done.
Am I dealing with Microsoft? This was a BIG surprise to me that Apple would release an OS without testing all programs.
Given my love of Apple products, I own a lot of Apple stock bought it when it was $45.00,This new OS is a real disaster.
If you are going to use Lion, I would be careful and call Apple first before downloading.
I also asked Scot what would happen if my computer crashed and I had no disk to reinstall. He said some Apple stores are selling Lion on a flash drive.
I believe this is one way for Apple to make ore profits at the cost of the consumer. Apple has more cash on hand then the US government.
I never expected Apple to do something like this. This is something Microsoft would do as they alwasy seem to rush their new OS without fully testing it.

If I wanted to open any of my Applework documents I had to open them one at a time and resave them with pages. This could take weeks.I have 1000s of apple work documents.
You don't have to open and re-save every AppleWorks document you have right now. Just wait till you need one, then do it. The documents aren't going anywhere.
Am I dealing with Microsoft? This was a BIG surprise to me that Apple would release an OS without testing all programs.
Frankly, it is not Apple's responsibility to ensure compatibiltiy with every piece of software available for OS X. That is the responsibility of the software vendor. Lion has been available to developers for several months before it's release, so Microtek had plenty of time to update their software. Yet they did not. How is that Apple's fault? I think Apple was very generous to give you a refund for Lion.
I'm not trying to belittle your frustration but I do think your ire is misplaced.

  • HT1331 "AirPort Disk Utility" no longer exists in 10.7 Lion (and possibly hasn't existed since 10.5).

I think this article is misleading, it seems that "AirPort Disk Utility" no longer exists in 10.7 Lion (and possibly hasn't existed since 10.5).

Good luck, I've treid with this one:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4635
Notice how outdated it still is. Not only that, but how it's got wrong info, like 1st Gen Express Model #.
Maybe you got more weight than I do...

  • Airport Disk Utility- where is it?

    Hey gang-
I just bought an external USB drive to connect to my new Gigabit Airport Extreme, so experimenting with AirDisk for the first time. I kept seeing references to "Airport Disk Utility" in some messages, but I realize now I don't have it. I'm running Leopard 10.5.6 and the latest Airport Utility and Airport firmware. I looked in my Utilities and Applications folder and searched Spotlight as well. I ran the Airport installer disk as well when I first bought it. I definitely don't have it.
So where exactly is Airport Disk Utility supposed to come from?
    Thanks!
    Dave

OK, so that answers one question. I just bought a USB hard drive and have connected it to my Airport Extreme and it was not automatically mounting. Found articles in Apple Support directing me to this utility which did not exist on my computer (Macbook Pro).
So, is there a way to get this to automatically mount? I was able to manually mount it via finder/go/servers, then inputting the address as 10.0.1.1 and selecting the desired partition.
What I did with the drive was first connect it directly, then I partitioned it using default settings (Extended/Journaled, I believe) and what I'd love to see is one of the partitions automatically mount when I am connected to this network. Is that possible? I’d rather not have to do it manually every time.

  • Airport Disk Utility not working on Intel mac...

    Ok here's a new one...
I just got a new macBook (intel) to replace my 12inch G4. On the 12inch, Airport Disk Utility worked just fine recognizing my lacie drive hooked up to AEBS. I used a firewire cable to import settings to the intel macbook and that's when things went wrong.
On the new laptop, Airport Disk Utility gives me an alarm chime when I open it and no matter what I do, it won't see the drive. What's more, I can't even get the icon to show up in the menu bar (even though the drive shows up when I check the base station with the airport configuration utility). Whenever I check either one of the boxes, I get an alarm chime.
What's more the airport disk utility still works on the G4.
I've tried resetting the network, reinstalling stuff- I don't know what else to do. I don't know much about networking, but I wonder if importing the settings from the G4 is somehow the culprit or just something to do with it being intel?

Well I fixed this. Get the AirPortBaseStationUpdate2007001.dmg update. I had installed this, but it didn't put in a few items that it should have. Mainly a little application in Core Servies. I used Pacifist to install the Airport Disk Utility again, and then restarted. I no longer got a beep when opening AD Utility, but I had to uncheck "Automatically discover disks" then turn off file sharing on the router, wait for it to restart, then turn file sharing back on, and then open AD Utility after restart and click Auto Discover. It then saw my disks. I also changed the name of the Windows Workgroup, I don't know if that had something to do with it. Good luck!

  • Airport disk utility not working

    Hi
I have just got myself a new airport base station (b,g,n) and all is nearly working well. I have an iBook g4 mini Mac g4 and an iMac Intel all working wireless no problem (all only on G). I have put a USB hard drive on the base station so that we can all share a network drive. I also have on the network 3 express stations for speakers and one has a printer on it as well. The printer is always ready for all to use and iTunes works on any or all systems through out the house. The problem being is that all 3 can map the network drive okay and use it fine, but after a while each will lose the drive and when I use airport disk utility to re-mount it, it comes with a window saying "action: ignore connect as guest or connect with password" I have set up with a disk password but it says incorrect user etc etc the password is correct and the only way to fix this is by rebooting the station.
    Any help on this

I upgraded to 7.1 and now all is fine

  • Airport Disk Utility Doesn't See External Drive, But Airport Utility Does?

Hey! I am a recent Apple convert and just got a brand new MacBook and Airport Extreme. I am trying to get my Maxtor OneTouch 320GB HDD to work with the Extreme, but to no avail. The Airport Utility sees my HDD, but the Airport Disk Utility doesn't? Any hints/tips on how to fix this problem? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

All I can think of is that the drive is formatted in NTFS which I have heard cannot be read by the AEBS(Airport Extreme Base Station), but I am confirming this right now in a different message. If you can copy the files, format your drive in HFS+(the Mac's standard file system), then reload the files. See if it works and reply back.

  • Airport disk utility

Hey, I've got a USB disk attached to Airport Extreme that I want to share between 2 Macs.
It shows up on one Mac's desktop, but neither Mac's Airport Disk Utility can see it.
What do I do to make it work?
    THANKS!!!

on your home computer which manages the Extreme, launch Airport Utility and select manual>disks>sharing and check box "enable file sharing."

  • HD not showing in Airport Disk Utility

Everything is working great except the connected Seagate HD. It is not showing up in the Airport Disk Utility. It HD is showing up on the network and can be accessed. The only thing that show in the list is the AEBS. I cannot save MS Excel or Word when try to "save as" to the disk. I can copy and paste to the disk without any problem. I have not tried to move anything else to this disk until I can figure out this issue. I have installed all the updates from the CD and have all my Mac running the most current updates also. I also reformatted the HD from Extended Journaled to Extend to see that was the problem but that did not help. Anyone if an idea?

Make sure that the USB cable is really making contact with the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). Some have reported that some cables don't fit well into the AEBS's USB port.
You may want to try another USB cable.

  • Airport disk utility can't read time capsule after a relocation

airport disk utility can't read time capsule after a relocation. Wether I connect ethernet or wifi, airport doesn't read it. Even after reset.

Do a full factory reset.. and you will need to reconfigure it.. that is the usual process when you move networks.
You can do a fully manual setup though. The new v6 utility is just lousy at locating the TC.. if you still have a computer.. even a PC running windows it will do fine on v5 as long as the TC is not the latest model..
Or use iOS version airport utility.. it also seems to have less issues than the mac version.

  • Which airport extreme utility download to use with pc?

What airport extreme utility download to use on pc?
    802.11n wi-fi
The one that reads for PC has a file extension .DMG?
    thanks

You need to download the correct version of AirPort Utility based on the operating system that the PC is using.
For XP SP3 and Vista SP2 use AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows
For Windows 7 use AirPort Utility 5.6.1 for Windows
Both downloads are Windows .exe files

  • Enabler & AirPort Disk Utility?

Hi I just bought a Gigabit AirPort Extreme and was wondering if I need to install the included software package. I have 10.5.2 installed on my MacBook Core 2 Duo and there is a newer version of AirPort Utility (5.2.2) installed in my programs folder (The Installer on the CD says 5.2.1). However there is no AirPort Disk Utility on my HD. I also do not know if the Draft-n Enabler is already installed (is it part of Leopard?).
    Kind Regards

You can see if the 802.11n ability is already enabled by using the following procedure.
Open Network Utility (found in the Applications > Utilities folder)
Under the Info Tab, choose Network Interface (en1). NOTE: Some users may find it under en0, or en2, or etc.
In the section "Model: Wireless Network Adapter," if it says (802.11a/b/g/n), you already have the 802.11n enabler installed. If it says (802.11a/b/g), you do not have the 802.11n enabler installed.
