Airport does not connect fast enough after sleep on Mac OS X Snow Leopard

Ever since installing Snow Leopard, I have noticed that my Airport will not connect fast enough when I am waking from sleep. I sometimes have to wait upwards of 30 seconds after waking from sleep so Airport can connect and I can begin using the Internet. I notice that Airport says it is connected, but when I launch Safari, I get the "Not Connected to Internet" error message. I have tried removing the com.apple.airport.preferences.plist file to no avail. I have also tried Archiving and Installing and the issue is still there. Any ideas or fixes? Thanks.

Those seem to happen a lot when you have stealth mode enabled (Security System Prefs, Firewall, Advanced). For me, they all seemed to be innocuous so I turned it off. I don't think this would affect your connectivity, though.
You should also see it negotiate the connection. Is there anything that looks like it is repeating or retrying or other disconcerting messages? Here's an example of mine waking:1/5/10 8:27:36 PM kernel Wake reason = USB1

  • Using Second Monitor Airport Does Not Reconnect Upon Waking from Sleep.

Using: MBP; OSX v10.6.5; Airport v5.5.2; Menu Bar assigned to second monitor which is a ViewSonic plugged in via mini-display port to HDMI.
When MBR goes to sleep and wakes upon mouse movement Airport does not re-establish the connection to my network.
No closing of lid or manually putting MBP to sleep involved. Just leave lid open on MBP and walk away for an hour. Upon return, move mouse, everthing wakes except Airport which shows an exclamation mark in the menu bar for the Airport ICON.
When using MBP display for the Menu Bar screen Airport wakes OK.
    What's with that behavior???

I changed channels from AUTO to Ch 11. Was there a specific frequency you had in mind.
I also closed the lid to the MBP, let things go to sleep, returned to the office, moved the mouse and the Airport came on line on its own.
I figure there is programmatic problem within either the OS or the Airport coding that prevents Airport re-finding a network with both displays active but the Menu Bar on the secondary screen.

  • HT4651 After I installed Mac OS X Snow Leopard, I cannot open Gmail.  What shall I do?

I installed OSX 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard) but Safari 5 still requests this OSX.
AOL mail and other applications seem working fine just Gmail does not.
Let me know what I should do.
I can check my Gmail in Fire Fox but I prefer Safari.
I am not very good with these technologies.

The Apple Store recommended Snow Leopard because this is 1/10 of the price.
Snow Leopard is installed (because the screen has changed) but Safari does not recognize it.
When I access Safari, about 80% progress to open but does not go any farther.
Before Snow Leopard installation, everything was working fine.
Currently, I can use any applications through Safari except Gmail.
    Thank you for your response.

... does my iMac model... support Hibernatemode 3 alias "Safe Sleep" to protect my Mac against damages due to power outage?
You can set hibernate mode to 3, but it seems to me its only benefit could be if power were to be lost after the iMac was already sleeping. Sleepimage is written to disk prior to system sleep. If your iMac lost power while it was "awake" you would certainly lose any unsaved work no matter what hibernate mode you choose.
The problem is that an iMac without power no longer sleeps, it's dead. Upon restoring power you need to cold boot, and I seriously doubt sleepimage can be forced to load in that event. Sleepimage is loaded upon wake from "safe sleep", not from boot as far as I know.
It is simple enough for you to try, so go ahead and see if it does what you want. Other than creating a 16 GB sleepimage file it did not appear to do anything beneficial on the iMac I am using though (a later model).
    The file location is /private/var/vm/sleepimage
Configure hibernatemode, verify the file is created, do some work on your Mac, don't save it to disk (and don't use Pages or similar app that saves work on its own), let it sleep, then pull the plug. I think you will see what I mean.

  • Magic Mouse not connecting to MBP after Sleep or Re-start

This has been an on going problem for me since I upgraded to OSX 10.8 on my MBP.  Since the upgrade my Magic Mouse will no longer connect to my MBP after it has gone to sleep, restarted or shut down.  The only way I have been able to get a connection is to Click on the BT icon goto the mouse>Open  Preferances.  At this point the computer is 'Waiting for a Bluetooth mouse to be discovered' and it will keep searching forever.  Clicking on the mouse button or moving the mouse around does not do anything even though the green light on the bottom of the mouse indicates it is on & attempting communication.  I have to turn the mouse off for 3-5 seconds and then turn the mouse back on.  This is the only way for the computer to see the mouse, I then click connect the mouse connects and all is good until the computer sleeps, gets restarted or shut down.
I have tried resetting the PRAM & SMC.  I have also deleted the mouse from bluetooth preferances and re-paired it with the computer several times.  I even tried deleting the PList and re-pairing but nothing yet has worked!
Open to any and all suggests! PLEASE help!

    Hi,
I have a mid 2014 15 inch MacBook Pro and I'm experiencing now the same issue. I have an iPad and an iMac and the issue is only with the MacBook Pro.
I went to System Preferences > Network > Wi - Fi and selected 'Ask to join new networks'. It didn't remove completely the issue (is still not finding the network) but at least I don't have to turn the wifi on and off all the time because after a while is able to connect.

  • Not connected to internet after sleep

Hi my Macbook Pro 13" early 2011 is not instantly connecting to the internet after sleep. I goto network diagnostics, all green lights are on, it says your internet is working fine, I click on a bookmark, it says I'm not connected. I repeat this two or three times, and finally after clicking on the third or fourth bookmark, it connects. I'm on Sky broadband UK through an Airport Express and my iPhone, Android (eeurgh!) 'phone, other computers and PS3 all connect with no problems. Any ideas folks?
Also whilst I'm here, I've noticed software update has downloaded the same EFI firmware update four times, and that other software updates are available immediately after updating software.... Something I'm not used to? And, during restart, the computer beeps. Normal?

Well, thanks to Carolyn Samit from San Francisco I think I found the answer by deleting Cache.db from Safari prefs in the library... Haven't been on these boards for a few years now - forgot how to use them! Anyway, if anyone can help with the software update repeats before I search the answer that'd be great thanks!

  • Airport does not connect to timecapsule

I can't connect my iMac Intel 24" aluminum to my wireless network using my 500gb Time Capsule. This started after have upgraded my time capsule to 7.5.2 and the Mac OSx to 10.6.7.
I already have reset the time capsule, started all the devices one by one and dowgraded te Timecapsule firmware to 7.4.2 witch was working before. I can connect the internet not using the airport, just using the cable from the timecapsule.
Lights are green on Timecapsule and I can connect my PS3 and my Iphone 4 to the timecapsule, but not the iMac. I can see the wireless conection but can not connect. The message is: connection timeout.
I can't see the Time Capsule in the airport utility also.
    Does anyone can help me?

It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( _not_ <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try.  Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.  If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.
By the way, I don't think it's relevant to solving this problem, but your post doesn't show any of your configuration details, such as OS X version number.  You might want to use the link "Your Stuff" > Profile to add that information.

  • Original Macbook Pro Retina 15 not connecting to wifi after sleep

When Waking from sleep, it searches for wifi and finds it but doesn't connect most of the time. i click/select the network manually & sometimes it connects but iv ended up resorted to turning wifi off, then turn back on & it finds the network (it found earlier) AND connects to it automatically. this problem happens on other wifi's aswell, not just my home wifi.
Wondering why it can find the network after sleep, but doesn't want to connect to it. All my ios devices, my sisters MBP retina 13 connects perfectly. I've come to conclusion it must be my computer....

I to have this problem. I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro 13inch with Retina display. I soon discovered on my machine that if you disable Bluetooth then the macbook connects to the wi-fi as it should. I dont have a problem on my home network with any other apple devices and the connectivity issue is the same on what ever network I try. I soon realised that if I disabled Bluetooth the machine connects perfectly everytime. There is clearly a bug or some technical issue that occurs preventing wi-fi connection when you have Bluetooth enabled. Try it and see if it is teh same with yours?
I was hopeing that the fault or issue would be fixed with the latest OX update but alas it is still an issue for me on my machine. I have just taken to switching Bluetooth to off until I am connected and then just turn Bluetooth on if I need it.
Hopeing that some kind of fix will be issued soon.
Let me know if this Bluetooth issue is the cause of the issue as I woudl be interested.
    Best wishes.

  • AIRPORT doesn't connect at startup/after sleep

    Hi All,
I recently had to reconfigure my Airport Express - that worked fine but now my PowerBook doesn't automatically connect to my selected network, either after sleep or at startup. It connects fine manually, but never automatically.
The connection also doesn't stick when switching between users - it used to.
I saw a post here about deleting the keychain entry - I tried that but it didn't work.
I've tried multiple times to re-add the network into the "join this network" area of network prefs, but it won't connect automatically. Also tried copying & renaming the location but NG.
It worked beautifully before and I keep thinking there must be something I'm missing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    R.Crooke

Hi R.Crooke, and a warm welcome to the forums!
You've done a ggod amount of the thungs that can work so far, but try this...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.<12 digit number>.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
These last two will need the originals Trashed since moving them actually just copies them to the desktop.
    Reboot. Setup again.

  • Airport will not connect to Wifi after Restore

I do not remember the exact verison, but my Macbook was upgraded to Snow Leopard and connected to my Verizon router (WPA security) just fine.
I decided to restore my Macbook back to factory settings and inserted the install disk and went from there.
After my Macbook was restored.  It reverted back to 10.4.8 (Tiger) - which was to be expected.  Now my Macbook will not connect to my router, saying there is an error.
I'm at a lost right now on what to do.

    robcub wrote:

That file has nothing to do with connecting to a Wi-Fi network, but only with AirPort Utility.
Anyone know of anything else I can try?
You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take a minute or so to try.

  • Lingoes translation does not connect to site after install Firefox 4 & after restore to 3.6.16, why?

Running Windows Vista Home Premium on a dual processor with 4 GB of RAM and a HD with 50% empty. Yesterday downloaded Firefox 4 only to find that Lingoes translation software that must connect to the web site for the translations could not; as some other privacy software (GoogleShare & Tor) could no longer be used decided to restore to Firefox 3.6.13, subsequently updated to 3.6.16. While GoogleShare & Tor now function, Lingoes still does not.

Simply download the latest version, Lingoes 2.8, which provides a firefox plug-in to support the feature of text capture.

  • Desktop computer crashes after sleep mode since upgrade to Snow Leopard

Since I upgraded my power Mac to Snow Leopard in December, I've had nothing but problems, all of which appear to stem from when it comes out of sleep mode. This computer and all applications were rock solid in Leopard! I also have a mac book running identical programs and that IS rock solid on Snow Leopard. I have a 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon processor with 10 GB ram.
I did a complete re-install of SL and all programs as per the Apple instructions.
Basically, the computer crashes after sleep mode. I've tried all the fixes I've read on the net. Here is the report thread from the last crash. Does it mean anything or throw any light on the problem to anyone?
    Thanks,
    David Wright

The problem has been identified as the RME fireface400 audio driver. I've spent some considerable time experimenting to identify the culprit. It's clear that this is what is causing all my problems since Snow Leopard. Whether it's exclusively the drivers fault or partly also due to a conflict with apple SL, I don't know, but I have crash reports if apple want to see them.
From your first post, it appears you are using Fireface audio driver version 2.64. RME released a new Snow Leopard compatible driver (version 2.65) last December. It is available at RME: Downloads. (There is also a firmware updater for the Fireface 400 there, which you might want to check out.)
It isn't at all unusual for a new OS version to require new drivers for third party hardware. References to this can be found all over the web, in "read me" files & other documentation, etc. -- it doesn't just apply to OS X but to Windows & other OS's as well. (One of the biggest problems with Vista was poor third party driver support.) In fact, the X-Lab "Resolving Kernel Panics" article specifically cautions users to make sure all such drivers are current. See section 6.1 of that article for more details.
I don't know if you missed all this somehow, but if you haven't already downloaded & installed the new RME driver (& possibly the firmware update as well), then do so now. While you are at it, check for other similar updates for any other third party hardware devices you use, using the info in section 6.1 of the X-Lab article as a guide.
Hopefully, this will resolve your issue, which (as already mentioned) is kernel panics, not crashes. If you still have problems, post more about them, being mindful of the difference between application crashes & kernel panics. Because they are fundamentally different, they have different cures, so we will need to know which type they are to offer effective help.

  • JavaFX/NetBeans not working after installation of Mac OS X Snow Leopard

    Hi guys!
I'm sort of in a hurry to get this working since I'm gonna demo my project tomorrow.
I just installed the new Mac OS X, and now my project won't run anymore!
I get the following dialog saying something like this (translated from Swedish):
com.sun.javafx.runtime.Main accidentally exited when using the plug-in file libjogl.jnilib.And the error that I get in the NetBeans console is:

BUILD FAILED (total time: 37 seconds)Can it be somthing about that the installation installed a new version of Java? Right now, the properties of my project says Java 1.6. Can't remember if I had 1.5 before or not... But maybe it changed anyway somehow.
What can I do, any ideas?

I'm seeing this exact same problem. After upgrading to Snow Leopard JavaFX simply fails with a segmentation fault. Any suggests?
