Airport doesn't see printer

I have a new Airport Extreme, and an older HP 7660 printer, with a new Mac laptop. Everything worked fine. THEN we moved the modem and consequently the Airport and printer. I didn't have a long enough USB cable, and left the printer unplugged into the Airport for a few days. When I plugged it in again the airport didn't see it. I've tried everything. Several times. I can print with the cable in the computer. The Airport is on line. I've turned things on and off, disconnected, and reset the airport to factory settings (with the cable in) and set it all up again. Nothing is working. Any suggestions?

I wish I could say that that fixed it, but it didn't. I was unable to set up the second AX unit as "extend an existing network' due to inexplicable errors related to the change also requiring changing settings on the #1 AX.
Next, I also tried creating a whole new network on the second AX just for the printer, but it didn't come back online (blinking yellow, invisible in Airport Utility) after I created it and I had to reset it manually and start over.
It would help if I could find better documentation on it that explains what the various settings do. The manual is a little slim and the various settings are not familiar to me, therefore it's very confusing.
And, sigh, after all of this, I performed a speed check and found that by connecting through the Linksys Router/Switch, my speed dropped back to the same level as before I started this fiasco.

  • AirPort doesn't see my new wireless router

I have a new router, and it works perfectly well via Ethernet, but it also has a wireless aerial, so I wanted to use it wireless, but Airport doesn't see any WLAN (AirPort IS active). What should I do? Any idea?
    Thanks
    Silvia

The router does broadcast the network name.
My Airport card is AirPort Extreme, universal, version 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p18), and the router is 802.11g 54Mbps
It's an EU Powerbook and an EU router.
I have gone to the router's setup page but I really don't know what to do. There is an auto-setup function for the wireless but it didn't work. I didn't see anything about the wireless being allowed to join the network or not.

  • Time capsule doesn't see printer through USB hub

I can't seem to get the TC to see my USB printer if it connects through a hub.  I have an external drive plugged into the hub and I can plug it into any of the ports and the TC log file shows the disk plug in and unplug.  The disk works great.
So far, the only way I've been able to print via the TC, is to connect the USB cable direct to the TC.  But there's no indication in the AirPort utility that the printer even exists.  Using System Preferences printer setup, I'm able to see the printer, add it and print a test page.  At no time did the AirPort utility indicate that the printer was indeed attached to the Time Capsule and functioning correctly.
How do I get the AirPort to give me more log information?  I can't believe that I'm able to print via the TC, yet the printers pane is empty, and nothing in the system log.
After doing this test, I again tried using the hub, and the printer is no longer visible on the Mac, but the disk on the hub is there.  I unplug the hub and plug the printer direct, and it's again visible on the Mac.  At no time does the TC indicate that the printer exists.
I do Linux system admin all day and bought a mac because it runs Unix for command line, and is supposed to be a "no brainer" to manage - a big plus as I really don't want to bring my work home and just use the computer.  Sigh....
    Macbook is running 10.7.2
Time Capsule is a new 2T unit
    Printer is Canon iP4300

The thing that really bothers me is that when I connect the printer direct to the TC, the Mac sees it, but not the Time Capsule...  ***?!?
Resetting the print system may...or may not....help here.

  • Ibook doesn't see printer

I have an ibook G4 and it has been printing by connecting wirelessly through airport to my imac that has an HP5500 printer connected to the imac. For an unknown reason, it suddenly doesn't list that printer. I can still print if I carry the ibook to the printer and connect it by usb. When I try to add a printer, it doesn't find any other printers in the house so nothing comes up on the list. It used to have that printer listed as hp5500-imac. How can I get it to find that printer again?

Is there a provision to see and use the HP through Bonjour printing?
One of mine is accessed that way, via USB and AirPort express base.
My Epson connects that way, while an HP all-in-one refuses totally.
There are times when I connect by-wire since all features of the
Epson are not supported wireless. The printer's Utility, mostly.
There may be some other settings to consider; but I don't remember
what the others may be in this instance. Once my primary desktop is
on, and two different printers work from there, that about covers it
    for me. The other computers can use the Epson via AirPort Express;
including my iBook G4. For print head maintenance, I run a USB wire.
Perhaps someone with that model printer may have an idea; or maybe
you'd have to try installing a new printer driver if it may be corrupted.
Sorry to not have a definite answer to the situation. Sometimes, each
time you have to choose a printer (even if using a USB printer, wireless)
you have to be certain the printer is being selected. Not sure why it isn't.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Airport won't see printer or/and send to printer

I thought about posting this in PRINTER forum but the printer works connected directly to the laptop, so I assume it's the airport settings.
I'm visiting my parents from across the country and I hope I didn't make a grave mistake by talking them into buying Leopard. Now they can't print into the other room.
We both have Macbook laptops, both with Leopard just installed. One was erased & installed and the other upgraded. Both won't print to to HP Deskjet 5600 series All-in-one printer via Airport base station. We we're able to do before.
In TIGER, I remember having a problem setting this up until turning on the "distributing address" in the airport utility. But with the new Airport Utility application, it's completely different. I don't understand anything about the DHCP, etc.
From my upgraded laptop, it's able to 'see' when adding new printer. When trying to print something, it sends it to Que:
    "/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed"
From the '_erased and installed_' laptop, it won't see it.
In my Airport utility--> PRINTER tab--> USB PRINTERS: (blank)
Under it has the name of the correct printer.
Does that mean it sees it?
    Please help.

I was having serious problems with my HP Photosmart 7600 series printer using the built in drivers in OS X 10.5. Printing would be sporadic and would take several minutes to start and then might stop printing part-way through the print job. A lot of the time, it never started printing at all.
After checking the iFelix list of Airport Extreme compatible printers, I noticed that the recommended driver was 2.7. After a little google-fu, it looked like the correct driver was the hpijs 2.7.1 driver that I also use with my Linux installs. After downloading the driver and some supporting packages and re-adding my printer (specifying the hpijs driver), the first print job started printing immediately!
Curious why Apple would have a driver that isn't compatible with the APE used as the default driver when there is an open-source driver that they recommend as an APE compatible driver available...

  • Printer sees wifi, Laptop sees wifi, but laptop doesn't see printer

I'm trying to connect my new LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw all in one to my laptop. I've already set it up via USB on my desktop and that went off without a hitch. I got the printer on the wifi (I can print out a Network Summary and Config Report that list the printer's IP and specifically say it's connected to my network) but now I'm running into problems getting my laptop to "see" the printer. Each time I try to run the install, I get the "Can't Find Product(s)" message. I've got my firewall off and I've tried using the troubleshooting methods on the HP site but nothing seems to work.
I've tried manually adding a printer through Windows, but it's not able to find the printer by IP address or hostname.
Please help before I beat the nice new printer with a bat "Office Space"-style.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

It looks like we fixed it. This is what we did:
    1) Installed the HP software via USB on the desktop
2)Confirmed that the printer was on the network by pressing the WPS button on the router and pressing holding the WiFi button on the printer for 2 seconds, then seeing a connection successfull message on the printer
    3) Still on the desktop, added it as a wireless printer through Windows (Start > Devices and Printers)
    4) Shared the printer with all users on the network
    5) Switched to the laptop and used WIndows to add a printer. Once we shared the printer from the desktop, the laptop was able to see it.
I am going to go back and try connecting the laptop to the printer via USB to finish installing the scanning software etc. But I was able to print a doc wirelessly so I'm satisfied.

  • Airport doesn't see Internet

    Hi
My airport has just stopped connecting to the Internet. The signal strength displays full strength (wherever I am) and doesn't connect to anything.
This is the first time it's happened since the last mac book firmware update the other day.
It also reports a fault when in Windows XP (bootcamp), so it would seem that it's a h/w issue.
Any clues most appreciated, there's no way I can let it go off to Apple for repair, I just don't have a replacement.
    Thanks
    Wendy
P.S. my ethernet ports work okay, just not the airport.

Try resetting the PRAM and/or SMC:

  • Brand new Airport doesn't see disk

This is odd; I had a USB disk attached to my "N" Airport for a while and it worked just fine, then, it stopped working.
The Airport logs don't show anything about a disk and no errors of any kind beyond housekeeping stuff. And if I connect the disk and restart the Airport there's no activity from the disk light when it boots that would indicate the drive gets any signal at all.
AND it works just fine when it's attached to my MBP.
And a USB printer shows correctly, so it's not a question of the USB port being bad.
What's going on here?? I ran the disk utility and checked it for errors while attached to my MBP and I reformatted it with MacOS as per setup instructions.
This is very weird, and I'm not at all sure that it didn't happen with an Airport firmware update (or, not).

I'll answer my own question here.
The brand new Airport I have used to recognize an sata drive in an external 2.5" enclosure. Then it stopped recognizing it, some time ago, for no apparent reason.
I borrowed a couple of other external enclosures and tried them on the Airport and one works, three do not, although all of them work on my Macbook.
My conclusion here is that Apple's USB port isn't quite up to standard.
Apple, please fix this, and while you're at it would you consider allowing the Airport to power down the external drive if it's not used for a period, in the interest of the environment? I realize that this is heresy for network storage devices but I don't think too many of these are in data centers and the time it takes to power up a drive before you can write to it is probably acceptable to your average home user.
    Thank you in advance,
    Faz

  • Airport doesn't see networks

    hello,
I am working on an iBook G3 running OSX10.3.9 and recently (september) added an airport card to my computer. everything was working fine until mid-january when airport stopped seeing networks - that is, it is turned on and set to see networks automatically, however, even when I am in places where there is a network (and where I have connected in the past), I am getting no bars (all of the bars for the airport icon are grey). I had my airport card tested and was assured that it is working fine - it was suggested to me that this might be a result of the software being compromised? I have just finished re-downloading and installing OSX10.3.9 but with no success - with respect to airport, everything is the same (all grey bars, no networks listed). I am very frustrated and need to be able to connect wirelessly again - please help!
    iBook (G3)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I'm hardly an expert, but I think I might have solved a somewhat similar problem.
Network Preference's Default setting stopped working. Each time I turned on my iBook I would have grey menu bars and have to go to InternetConnect in Applications to select a network, although I only had one, and my TCP/IP settings had not changed (Have you checked yours?).
Pulling plugs, zapping the PRAM, etc. did not work. What finally did, was going to HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airportpreferences.plist and trashing that one .plist file.
After restarting, I got right on. Don't know if this will work for any of you, but it is easy to try, and I don't think can do any harm.

  • Photoshop doesn't see Printer

I'm using CS4 version 11.0.2 and Windows 7 and I've never had any problem printing until today.  Now, when I click on "Print" under the File menu, it gives me the error message "Before you can perform printer related tasks such as Page Setup or Printing a Document you need to install a printer".  The printer is hooked up and powered on and I have no problems printing from other programs.  I restarted Photoshop and that didn't help, so I rebooted my computer and that didn't help.  I've reset my preferences also.  Any suggestions?

  • Computer still doesn't see printer

I read the similar posting, but it didn't help. Did not understand how to "reset" the printer. Here's the basics.
    New wireless modem
    connects to the internet
Mac OS X systems(four computers of varying age) latest is snow
Printer is a HP deskjet 6988
Have restarted systems, modem,  changed radio channels,  currently downloading "new drivers", don't think it will help with the other computers?
On the printer check - IP address is 0.0.0.0 as is the subnet, gateway, DNS
Wireless: disabled and everything else is "NA"
I remember when I bought this, that HP tech support had to help get it set up. Had some issues with Bonjour. Unfortunately I didn't write down how we solved the problems. Tried using Qworst tech support, no help there.
    I hope someone can help?
    Thanks!

    To reset the printer:
    1. Verify that the printer is powered on.
    2. Press and hold down the Report Page button.
    3. While holding down the Report Page button, press the Cancel button three times.
    4. Release the Report Page button.
Now, get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Airport Extreme doesn't see my USB disk

    Hello,
i have changed the usb disk (full) that i connected to my airport extreme. I replace it by a new one (MEM UP, 2 To), formatted in mac os extended.
This new disk is mounted by the Mac but when i connected it on the Airport, the Airport doesn't see it : "no disk detected".
There isn't hub, it is connected directly.
Have you got an idea ?
    Thanks,
    Rudy

The USB port on the AirPort Extreme is under powered....and your new hard drive may require a bit more current than the old one.
It is always a good idea to use a powered USB hub with the AirPort Extreme whenever you are using a hard drive....even if the hard drive has its own power supply.
A powered USB hub may not solve your issue, but there is also a chance that it will. Might be worth a try.

  • Airport Utility 5.6.1 doesn't see my Airport Extreme

I'm good with the Ethernet connection for the internet, but Airport doesn't see my Airport Extreme.  It's connected to my IMac 10.6.8.   Have tried a reset with ballpoint pen, but nothing happens.  This all went crashing down the other evening with I suddenly had lost Internet on my MacBook Pro.  This ***** so bad.  Would it do me any good to call Apple support?

OS X 10.6.8 is Snow Leopard for which you need AirPort Utility 5.6.1.
There are no special techniques to download it. Just click on the link, then click the blue Download button, which will download and eventually deposit AirPort Utility 5.6.1 in your Downloads folder.
    It looks like this:
Double-click it to extract the package installer. It looks like this:
Double-click that to open the installer:
Click Continue and follow the prompts, which will either install it in your Utilities folder or tell you a reason it cannot.
After you perform the "hard reset" and the Extreme's LED is blinking slowly, go to your Wi-Fi menu and see if you find a network called "Apple Network nnnnnn". Select it, then launch AirPort Utility.
The reason that everything is greyed out is that AirPort Utility cannot find any base stations to configure. If after doing all the above it still cannot, perform another "hard reset". If that does not work, perform a "factory defaults reset" as I explained above.
What happened at the Apple Store? Other than having a nice ballpoint pen with an Apple logo on it, they are not going to do anything more than you can do.
If you did not bring it there yet, bring your MacBook Pro along with you so that you can see for yourself how it ought to work.

  • Airport doesn't work after RAM install

I upgraded RAM on my Mac Mini. Followed directions and all is good. Mini with new RAM is running great; however now, my Airport doesn't see my or any neighborhood networks. Prior to the install this was all working fine.
I can' figure out the problem. Any suggestions on what to do?

Excellent! That was it. Thank you.
And notes from a novice: For those looking to upgrade RAM in the Mac mini (Intel) there are 3 things to note when pulling out the internal frame: 1. The little black (thermostat fan) cable up front. You must unhook but if you forget to reconnect the fan runs all the time. Not good; 2. The gold (audio) band in the back. This too came off very easily. Very small (plastic) clamp that was tedioius to set back. Lift internal frame and turn like a book page; and 3. the airport cable. There are 2 small circular (beige color) ports. Use the MAIN (it's in tiny print) near the back.

  • Airport utility on Mac doesn't see AX

Airport utility on my Mac (10.7.5) doesn't see AX although it is connected to the internet through it. I've updated the Airport utility (6.2), restart the Mac, but still doesn't work.
My objective was to install an extern backup drive (to configure Time Machine through the wifi)
My iPhone & iPad do 'see' the AX and the external drive.......
    Who can help?

Airport utility on my Mac (10.7.5) doesn't see AX although it is connected to the internet through it.
Apple uses the AX abbreviation for the AirPort Express. The AirPort Extreme is known as an AEBS.
If you have an AirPort Extreme, temporarily connect a spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to a LAN <-> port on the Airport router to see if AirPort Utility can "see" it that way.
If you happen to have an older "round" AEBS, AirPort Utility 6.2 cannot be used to configure this older version of the AirPort. Instead, you will need to use AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion for that task.
My objective was to install an extern backup drive (to configure Time Machine through the wifi)
Apple does not officially support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme, so your results may not be to your liking if you try this. It does seem to work for some users....while other users (like me) have nothing but problems when they try this.
If you happen to have the older "round" version of the AirPort Extreme, the USB port on that version will only support the print function.
