Thanks for your response Bob.  I had already figured out to assign a different SSID to the 5Ghz network, as I posted a little while ago, so my basic problem is solved.
Looking at the info from the Airport Utility (clicking Wireless Clients), it seems that the iPad 1 isn't very good at the 5.0 GHz network.  And maybe that's why it's auto-selecting the 2.4 GHz network.  Here's what I mean:  I see a MUCH quieter environment on 5.0, with noise levels in the high -90 dBs.  The 5.0 GHz signal is also a lot stronger than the 2.4 GHz signal by 12-16 dBs. However, the rate the iPad 1 is getting is about the same or LESS than it gets on the 2.4 GHz network!  Below 60 mbps!  Yeesh, I guess it's just not capable of running 802.11n at rated speeds with AES encryption.
By contrast, my Windows netbook with an Intel 5100 wifi chipset LOVES the 5GHz network, getting speeds in the 200 mpbs range, and extremely strong signal and quiet noise (-81/-97).
Conclusion?  The iPad 1 kind of stinks real bad at WiFi.  I wonder if the iPad 2 is any better.  Frankly my iPhone 4, even though it doesn't hit the 5.0 GHz net at all, runs at about twice the rate of the iPad 1.
Finally:  as to your comment about support, I wasn't being clear I guess.  I totally understand what this forum is.  What I was saying was that Apple is not going to allow me to submit an incident to THEIR official support, without paying a per-incident fee, EVEN THOUGH I bought this AEBS less than 2 weeks ago!  My question is:  what's up with that?  I buy this high-dollar router (costing 2-3x what others go for) and I get zero support?  I thought Apple was good at holding your hand.
Well, it's kind of moot now, because I figured it out.  Thanks.

Maybe you are looking to re-purpose this equipment versus getting rid of it if so, the best thing to do is search the internet for tutorials.  And I say this because it's what I would do, there are a lot of tutorials online.    Hope you can find good use for them.  Worse case scenario if you can't find something right now, package them very nicely and when you come across something unbox and enjoy.  I've re-purposed a mac color classic and LOVE IT!!

  • Printing with airport and iPad

I have not been successful using my airport and iPad to print. Any ideas?

Printing from an iPad or iPhone
To print directly from an iPad you need an AirPrint - enabled printer on the same wireless network as the iPad. All AirPrint printers are wireless but not all wireless printers are AirPrint-enabled.
If you do not have an AirPrint printer, a number of workarounds exist that enable the use of any printer you normally use, even older ones that may predate AirPrint by decades. Search for the following products:
    handyPrint (Mac only, donation-supported)
Printopia (Mac only, $19.95 with free trial)
These are utilities you install on the Mac you normally use for printing, enabling it to act as an AirPrint print server. The Mac must be "on" but may be asleep for them to work. The iPad needs nothing else, no iOS apps need to be installed and no configuration is necessary. If your computer can print, so can the iPad, using one of these utilities on your Mac.
Equivalent utilities may exist for PCs but you'll have to perform your own research.
There are also iOS apps available from printer manufacturers that enable printing directly from your iPad to selected printers. Search for them in the App Store.
You can also buy this standalone hardware print server, bypassing the need for a computer altogether:
    http://www.lantronix.com/it-management/xprintserver/xprintserver.html
Otherwise you will need to buy an AirPrint printer or multifunction device. I recommend AirPrint compatible Brother printers and multifunction devices over those of other manufacturers.
Read user reviews and choose wisely.

  • MacBook Pro not connecting to Airport Express, iPad connects fine

Hi. Suddenly my Macbook Pro cannot connected to our wifi connection via Airport Express, though the connection is visible in the Airport drop-down and it shows full signal strength. My iPad connects fine.

You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.

  • Airport Express & Ipad 4 connection

Hi,I am in Italy in a hotel and have no luck in getting internet access via my Airport Express.
I did set it up back home in Australia and it worked fine within my Wi Fi network.
Here in Italy I have Wi Fi access with my Ipad4 but connecting my Airport Express I do not get internet access on my Iphone or second Ipad.
Airport Express has solid green light and my Iphone and Second Ipadsolid signal from the Airport Express but still I can not have internet connection.
I did reset my Airport Express but have the same result solid green light with no internet access.
Was trying to contact Apple direct by chat but did not find any contact.
    Perhaps somone can help me?
    Thank you

What does any of this have to do with the Apple TV?

  • Cannot share 3G dongle internet via airport to iPad/iPhone

Have a mobile internet dongle. All access to internet with it is 100% fine.
Internet sharing is ON, Firewall OFF, Share your connection from 'UCM-1' (my Swisscom internet dongle), To computers using 'Airport', no encryption.
Airport icon appears correct: grey with up arrow.
iPad and iPhone 'see' my created wireless network and they 'connect' and show wireless 'fans' at full signal strength.
No access to internet with either though.
On iPad, in Settings > Wifi the details are:
    IP address: 169.254.xx.xxx
    Subnet 255.255.0.0
    Router none
    DNS none
    etc.
In Network Utility, selecting UCM-1 (the dongle) shows:
IP address: 10.139.233.xxx where xxx is a number
    destination 10.64.64.64
(and i know i have a real IP address of 138.188.nnn.mmm where they are real numbers (ad it works as i said)
Similarly Airport (en1) has IP address of 10.0.2.1
What can i be doing wrong?
    Thanks

With the iPhone set for static config, can you fill in Router and DNS? If yes put 10.0.2.1 in both of those fields and see if you can get on the internet?
I believe the key difference between your configuration and mine is that your Airport is showing up with an IP address in you Mac System Preferences / Utilities of 10.0.2.1, but mine is showing a self assigned IP in Network Pref and Network Utility. Seems like sharing is not coming up properly for you.

  • Wifi besides AirPort for iPad?

Are there other wifi devices besides AirPort that will work to connect hotel room wired internet to iPad? I have an iPad 1st generation and will be trying to use it in hotels in Japan that mostly have wired only in the rooms. Is thereanything that folks love or hate? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply - we actually managed to solve it by removing some extra devices from using Wifi, so it seems like It was an update to the firmware (as you thought)  which limited the number of devices on wifi at once. Thank you though!

  • Accessing hd on Airport from iPad

So i have my external plugged into the airport with lots of movies on there. Don't have any problems accessing the videos with any computers in the house. My question is, is there a way to stream those videos to an iPad on the network? is there an app I need? any help is appreciated. I apologize in advance if this is the wrong forum for this question.

My question is, is there a way to stream those videos to an iPad on the network? is there an app I need?
In order to stream video wirelessly to your iPad, you need both a Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) server and a DLNA client for the iPad.
There are a number of iPad DLNA Client Apps out there. One example would be the Media Link Player Lite. I suggest that you do an Internet search with terms like: iPad DLNA, and you should get a number of leads to check out.
As far as a DLNA server, the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) it is not ... so you would need another device/software, like the XBox 360, PS3, Windows Media Player, TwonkyMedia Server, etc. to provide the streams.

  • Can I share my internet with my Ipad and simultaneously connect to a airport express that I use to remotely connect speakers?

Can I share my internet from my Imac with my Ipad and simultaneously connect to a airport express that I use to remotely to connect speakers?
The big problem that I'm having is that when internet sharing via the airport I can not simultaneously connect with my airport express.  It would be great to be able to share internet from my Imac so I can be using my Ipad and at the sametime have my wife use the airport express to stream music in a different room. It would be awesome to be able to have the ability to do both. Does anybody know how?

  • IPAD/IPOD playing music to a Airport Express - No Sound?

I have an IPAD and an IPOD.  IPAD is 4th gen, IOS7.  IPOD is 4th gen, IOS6.
Airport express is the new one second generation.  Airport Express is wired to my home network, and its in bridged mode with wireless off.  Its purpose is only to play music via airplay.
When I turn on airplay on my IPAD or IPOD I can always see my Airport Express.  It always allows me to select it as my output speaker.  However, only sometimes does music actually play through my Airport Express / Stereo setup.  The IPAD or IPOD always shows the music playing in its music playing app.  It appears as if its working.  I just cant always hear it.
If Im trying to play music but no sound is coming out of my stereo, I can power off my IPAD or IPOD, then try playing music again and it will work.  This is a work-around to my problem that really bugs me.  I want to properly diagnose this problem so that I do not have to power cycle my iDevice before using airplay.
Ive read many posts about Airport Express sound problems.  Most problems seem to be either short audio drop-outs, or not detecting the Airport Express.  I think my problem is different.
I have read some people had success downgrading their Airport Express firmware to 7.6.1 to fix the short audio drop-outs.  I have not tried this as my problem is not worth audio drop-outs.  Its with no sound at all playing.
I am begginging to think the Airport Express isnt as rock-solid for airplay as I thought.
    QUESTIONS:
Are there any tools available for troubleshooting this type of problem?  The knowledge base articles Ive read from Apple have been no help.

  • Airport Express seems to prevent iPads from connected to AppleTV via AirPlay

I posted this in the AppleTV forum before narrowing the problem down to my Airport Expresses. (iPad won't connect to AppleTV)
    Here are highlights:
Airport Extreme extended by two Airport Expresses both connected via Ethernet
Two ATV3, one wireless, the other Ethernet. AirServer running on 2008 Mac Pro
iPhone 6 and iPhone 5S can easily stream video via Airplay to any ATV
iPad Air and iPad Mini Retina don't see ATVs in AirPlay menu but do see AXP.
If AXPs are unplugged from power, AXP still shows up in AirPlay menu until iPad is either restarted or the wi-fi turned off then on.
Once the AXP "disconnects" from AirPlay menu (when AXP is powered down) all ATVs in the house show up in AirPlay menu.
    Any ideas?
Took the iPad to Genius bar and it worked fine. When at office, I see all ATVs. At home, no ATVs when AXP are live. Been dealing with this for two months!
    Thanks.

... It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference that has been introduced recently in the immediate area that is preventing your AX from getting a good clean signal from the AEBS.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like MacStumbler, iStumbler, or AirRadar to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.

  • How can i print form my ipad first edition  through my airport express

how  do i get my ipad to print to my airport express

The iPad will not print unless you have an AirPrint compatible printer on your network.  Check this Apple document to see if your printer is compatible.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
If your printer is not compatible, you might still be able to print with an App like PrintCental.

  • IPad can no longer find my Current (home) Location.

Ever since returning home to Dubrovnik,Croatia (via Frankfurt Airport) my iPad still thinks Frankfurt is my Current location!
I can see from my Maps that it is centred on the airport there.
How do I re-set my iPad to recognise my real location as it obviously doesn't plan to do it automatically - I've been home over 4 days!
    Thank you.

Never was very good at "wait & see" so decided to try something!
    Disconnected home Router.
Removed all Apps from iPad (not iTunes) calling for Location status.
Disabled Location Services - iPad Settings.
    Shut down iPad and restarted.
Re-installed removed Apps from PC (iTunes).
    Shut down iPad and restarted.
    Re-connected Router.
    Enabled Location Services.
    Current Location found!!
It is of course entirely possible this operation coincided with the natural re-location process but I have my doubts!
    Hope this helps...
    Paul.
