Yes, you can use the Airport Extreme as a repeater or a network Extender. When you're setting it up with the Airport utility software, simply put it into repeater mode. The Airport Extreme has a range of at least 250 meters, which is about 820 feet, which is pretty impressive!

  • Airport Express as Repeate doesnt work

Hello. I have a TIme Capsule an older modell with 1GB Harddisk and Wifi function.
The Time Capsule is in an other house circa 8 meter next to me. In my house i have in Airport Express MB321Z/A that i will use as a repeater. I had done this configuration.
The LED of the Airport Express is green, aber 1 Meter next to the Airport Express the Signal is very weak. I dont really know if the Airport Express really works as repeater.
A time capsule 8 meter next to me trough two walls an one roof is that to much?? The Airport Express LED shines green but i think the signal is not better.
    What is the problem??

Each intervening obstruction will attenuate wireless signals a certain amount.
Try relocating the Express closer to the Time Capsule. The wireless information it is capable of repeating is only as good as the quality of signal it can receive.

  • Very first airport express as repeater

is the very first airport express able to repeat wifi from AP of different brands?

Sorry I meant to say WDS in the first sentence. Then WEP.
You can do WDS to old old stuff with hopeless WEP security
If I could edit I would .. but of course that would mean the website had to work.. which is rather outside the box.

  • Airport Express - status repeatedly cycling from solid amber to solid green

Hello, my Airport is cycling solid green to solid amber approximately every 5 minutes or so. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Express

After the Express restarts, it should blink amber slowly. If you try the Factory Default Reset a few times and the Express will not blink amber slowly after it restarts, you have a defective AirPort Express that will need to be replaced.

  • Trouble with Airport Express as repeater

    Hi Community.
I want to extend the WiFi-range of my new (4th-gen.) Time Capsule to the other end of the house by use of my old AirPort Express (probably 1st gen. - only 802.11b/g-mode).
I read some of the threads here in the community and thought that I had understood how to to do that but now my Time capsule keeps switching between steady green and yellow flashing lights. On AirPort utility 6.0 I see that apparently my internet connection is supposed to be lost whenever it goes to the yellow light. I had no such troble before I changed the configuration to "Participate in a WDS". Before it was on "create a wireless network".
    To summarize what I did:
Using AirPort Utility 5.6 I first switched the Time Capsule (which is connected to the modem and to my iMac via ethernet) to the "Participate in a WDS network" and clicked "Allow this network to be extended". Unter the "WDS-Menu" I set it to "WDS main" and clicked "Allow wireless clients". Afterwards I entered the MAC-Adress of my AirPort Express under the WDS Remotes. Then I updated the Time Capsule. (it is still set up to also transmit signals in the 5 GHZ / n-mode under a different automatic channel, but this should not affect the AirPort Express, since it does not receive any signals in 802.11n - does it?)
Afterwards I connected my AirPort Express via ethernet to the Time Capsule and also set it to "Participate in a WDS network". The Radio Mode is on "802.11b/g compatibel" and it is on the same channel as my Time Capsule. Under the WDS-Menu I set it up as a WDS-remote, allowed wireless clients and entered the MAC-Adress of my Time Capsule as the WDS-Main.
Now I try to run the setup and every 10 seconds or so the yellow light of the Time Capsule lights up.
Does anybody have an idea what might be wrong?
    Thanks!

Except for enabling the "Allow this network to be extended" option which is only valid for 802.11n networks, it sounds like you did everything correctly, but please take a look at the following step-by-step procedure to see you if may have missed something along the way.
Static WDS Setup with "Mixed" (802.11g & 802.11n) AirPort Base Stations
Note: To facilitate the WDS set up:
Perform a "factory default" reset on all of the base stations that you plan on using in the WDS. This will get them back to their respective "out-of-the-box" configurations.
To avoid having to "switch" wireless networks within the AirPort Utility, temporarily connect the remote base station(s) to the Time Capsule (TC) by Ethernet during the set up phase, and then, relocate it to the desired location when complete.
Be sure to jot down the AirPort IDs (MAC addresses) for each of the base stations to be used in the WDS. The AirPort ID is printed on the label on the bottom/side of the base station.
    Main Base Station Setup
Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar and choose the wireless network created by the TC.
    Open AirPort Utility.
Select the TC, and then, choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
Enter the base station password if necessary. If the base station is using the default password of public, you will not be prompted for a password.
Click Wireless in the toolbar, and then, choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu. Note: You will need to hold down the Option key in order to get this option on the AEBSn, 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn), or Time Capsule (TC).
Click WDS and then, choose “WDS main” from the WDS Mode pop-up menu.
Select the “Allow wireless clients” checkbox if you want client computer to connect to this base station.
Click the Add "+" button and enter the AirPort ID of 802.11b/g AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
Click Update to send the new settings to the base station in the WDS.
    Remote Base Station Setup
Open AirPort Utility; select the AX, and then, choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
Enter the base station password, if necessary.
Enter the same network password as the TC, if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then, click Wireless. Choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then, choose the same channel as the TC from the Channel pop-up menu.
Click WDS and choose “WDS remote” from the pop-up menu.
Enter the AirPort ID of the TC in the WDS Main field.
Click Update to transfer the settings to the base station.

  • Airport Express als WDS

    Hello
I have already Airport Extreme. Since my apartment has two floors I tought to "extend" my wireless network and to make it "stronger". For that I was told that that I need Airport Express.
Which setting do I need in order to make this work? Thanks very much

zlatan.moranjkic, Welcome to the discussion area!
If both the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and AirPort Express (AX) are 802.11n capable, you would configure the AEBS to allow itself to be extended. The AX would be configured to extend an existing wireless network.
If either the AEBS or AX are not 802.11n capable, you would configure the AEBS to act as a WDS main base station and configure the AX to act as a WDS remote base station. Unfortunately each WDS link cuts your available wireless bandwidth in half.

  • Airport express to be repeater

Now I use wireless access point from Technic colour and would like to use airport express to repeat wireless signal and plug LAN printer to the airport express to print from ipad, iphone or other device.  Can I do this?

No, you cannot extend wireless from a non-apple router. The Apple routers use proprietary method of wireless repeater.
However if you plug the Express into the WAP or main router then you can setup express as another WAP. And also plug in the printer.
Please note this does not make a usb printer airprint capable.. that is purely dependent on the printer and is only accessible when the printer is full network compliant and connects by wireless. So to get iOS devices to print you will need a print app or a network print replacement for airprint. An example is Printopia.

  • How do I setup Airport Extreme to repeat my BT router wireless signal?

I have a BT router and want to setup 3 x airport Express to repeat the signal wirelessly around the house.
They all seem fine with steady green lights but are not repeating the wifi so I get very low (or no) signal strength even if I stand right next to it.
Do I have to have an Apple base station or will they work with a non-apple router?

Do I have to have an Apple base station or will they work with a non-apple router?
Unfortunately, the Apple routers will only "extend" or provide more wireless coverage using wireless only...if they are used with another Apple product.
If you added an AirPort Extreme to your BT router using an Ethernet connection, and then configured the Extreme to create a wireless network...the Express devices would be able to "extend" that network.

  • ABOUT WIFI+ETHERNET SIMULTANEOUS FUNCTION IN AIRPORT EXPRESS

Hi, I'm José from Spain. Here it goes my question. In an Airport Express 2ª Generation, can it work as wifi+ethernet repeater simultaneously?. I mean if it is able to work as wifi repeater at the same time with its two ethernet ports working at the same time giving internet by wired way.
    Thank you in advance. Regards.

Hello again, and sorry friend, I hadn't explained myself enough before. Is my fault. I meant I have a modem-router not Apple upstairs, and downstairs I have two wireless devices (it could be more) and two more wired devices too. The idea is to provide Internet simultaneously the four devices using the Airport express (as repeater or so) and integrate them into my LAN, and I don't know if it is phisycaly possible with the mentioned Airport.
Thank you very much dear friend.

  • Extending an Network Using Powerlines & Airport Express

Apologies for the rather long winded question - however I am hoping that there is a fairly simple response.
I have just moved into a new house with very thick walls. The wifi signal (from a BT HomeHub (2??)) router makes it around the majority of the house - except the dining room where we plan on using the macbook the most.
I thought i could solve this problem by buying a Belkin Powerline and an Airport Express. The ultimate aim is to use the Airport Express both as Airtunes device and also as a device to extend the wireless network in the dining room.
My current set up therefore is the phone line connected to the BT router; router connected to the powerline socket via an ethernet cable. In my dining room (where there is no wireless signal) I have the other powerline socket connected to my Airport Express. Having gone through the set up process, Airtunes works well, broadcasting from the mac to my stereo via Airtunes. However it is clear that i am unable to connect to the internet using the mac in my dining room - suggesting that the Airport express is not extending the wifi signal (if i plug the macbook into the powerline socket directly using the ethernet cable then the internet works fine).
My question therefore is, given the above device set up, how can do i set up my Airport Express so that I can connect to the internet AND use Airtunes in a room that is outside the range of the BT base station, but is connected to the internet via a Powerline?? Ideally the wi-fi signal provided by the Airport Express would be the same as provided by the BT Box so that I can wander round the house picking up whichever source is the strongest. Is this possible??
thanks in advance and apologies again for the long winded question!
    many thanks
    Paul

Hi can someone help me please....... I am new to this and as such couldnt even find out how to post a new thread..... sorry i am not into IT thats why I buy apple cos I dont normally have to think : )
Here is my issue. I ahve just moved back to the UK and into my old house, I have a BT homehub installed as they were easiest and fastest to get online with, the airpot in my Imac works fine with it and within twenty feet everything esle connects fine too, my issue is my apple tv simply cannot find the network, I have tried extending the range with everything, Belkin etc and then someone suggested airport express. Nothing seems to work but at least airport express tells you why and apparently the why is because my homehub will not let its network be extended ? BT now tell me that this is true !!!! now I am stuck in a contract with BT with a homehub that doesnt reach my apple tv that cannot be extended by airport express ? is this really true or can someone help me please, please . I have read the post above and just want to know if the airport express needs to remain pluggedinto the router via ethernet ?? if so it is unlikely I can have the airport express unit much more than a few feet away from the homehub and if so how will this increase the overall range of the network ? over the existing home hub ? frustratingly my apple tv etc is the furthest possible point away from the hub and with several thick stone walls in the way which is obviously why I am having issues ? making the airport express a repeater in a mid point would be ideal but apparently this is not possible ?

  • Airport Express cannot connect to Netgear WNAP210

I changed my old netgear access point (WG602) to a netgear WNAP210. I cannot connect my airport express to the base station, neighter as access point nor as repeater. The WNAP210 is on standard configuration. I tried WPA, WPA2 and no protection but I was not possible to connect.
Which settings do I need that I can use the WNAP210 as base station and the airport express as repeater?

WOW so after all that it turns out somehow in memory even after a factory reset it was looking for my original SSID which was on dual 2.4 and 5 ghz when I first set it up..after some more troubleshooting I hooked it up to my PC with factory settings and couldn't even find the 5 ghz SSID..after that I disabled the 2.4 ghz SSID completely from the router and then I couldn't see anything..after more troubleshooting I renamed the SSID name to something new and now the airport connected to the 5 ghz, re-enabled the 2.4 with a new name and everything is working great! Thank goodness!
