Airport Express Amber Light Keeps Blinking

Hello,
Just bought an Airport Express yesterday and have been having headache trying to set it up. I would love to set it up as a wireless internet connection, so I can browse on my iPod Touch. Have followed all the steps on the Setup Guide, including turning my modem off.
I can access wireless connection on my Ipod Touch (it's showing the ID number which match with my AX) , but it seems like I am unable to connect the internet to my PC which is a Compaq (4 years old).
When I open Airport Utilities it always comes up with a message unable to scan AX. Not sure what else to do and thinking of returning this AX to the store before the due date. Please if anyone has any advise or suggestion I would really appreciate your help

  • Amber Light Keeps Blinking

Amber light keeps blinking. I have been unable to set up wireless and never get a green light. Connection to internet works via cable to the Airport base station. I have done numerous resets and with power on off cycle per instructions on page 29. This is a brand new unit, arrived today, so it has never been working. I have hit the reset button both with power on and while powering up. Did a firmware update too. Still no luck. Is this a defective unit since it will not reset? I have also done complete resets with the DSL modem cycled off and back on, Base station off and brought back to power, and MacBook Pro cycled on and off too.
Should I call the vendor and ask for a replacement?

Hello popadave. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
A persistent, flashing amber light indicates that any of the several potential conditions may require your attention:
o The base station has not yet been configured because it is new, or the reset switch has been set.
o You have selected a security configuration that is not recommended.
o One of several other conditions, such as a disconnected Ethernet cable or invalid IP address has been detected.

If you run the AirPort Utility, it will show an amber circle on the summary page next to the area(s) causing the problem. Click on this amber circle and it should provide an explanation.
Please post back what you find.

  • Airport Express amber light is flashing, but I'm connected. How come?

Oddities abound in computerland, but this one takes the cake: I bought an Airport Express base station last week at the Danbury CT Apple Store, then spent hours, days, trying to set up a wireless base and establish a connection with my MacMini and my new AsusEee PC. I read and reread the Setup Guide; consulted every forum and every applicable website, all to no avail. I unplugged and replugged the cable modem, reset the A.E. to the factory settings, downloaded the latest version of Airport Utility, but the amber light flashed on and on.
Then, about fifteen minutes ago, after accessing various settings that had produced nada results on previous occasions, a window appeared on my monitor telling me I was successfully connected, and by gum, I am! But I have no idea why--by that time I was too confused to be able to retrace my path.
Then, with fingers crossed, I set up the little AsusEee PC for wireless connectivity, and that too connected successfully. BUT the Airport Express light, which has never turned green, continues to flash amber!
How can this be? I'm pleased as proverbial punch, but I don't dare touch anything for fear of turning gold to dust. Does anyone have any insightful comments?

When at first you don't succeed.....
Well, since my last post--4/18--I spent many more hours and resets trying to get the fool thing working, and yesterday when I was just about ready to pack the AX up and take back to the Apple Store, I connected. How and why I do not know. Maybe it was all the resets; maybe it was kismet. Anyway, the green light is on and steady; I was also able to connect my AsusEee, and for the time at least I'm a happy keyboard tapper.
    Hang in there, guys!

  • Hi, My Apple TV 1st generation is showing the apple logo and the amber light keeps blinking, after a while it shows a little Apple TV with a question mark blinking on top, any ideas?

Well my question says it all.  I wasn´t using the apple tv, but noticed that the amber light started to blink, so I put it on the tv and there was the apple logo.  I did the recory with the "MENU" + "-" button, but came back the same.  After a while it showed a little Apple TV image with a "?" mark blinking on top.  I disconected it the whole night but today is doing the same. Is like it got stuck on the restart. Can anyone help me?

Fixed it after trying everything listed here with no success.
First you will need to make sure you have the ability to connect your ATV box directly to your router via a cable.  This issue is directly related to networking from my experience and once connected to wifi you will have a nightmare of a time to complete the fix.
    1.  Make sure you have NO network connection to the ATV box.
    2.  Hard reboot ATV using remote (aim remote at device and hold "menu" and "down/minus" until amber light blinks)
    3.  When ATV reboots to a diagnostic menu select "Factory Restore"
    4.  After Restore has completed select a language
    5.  You cannot skip the the wifi selection screen without setting up a connection, however: DO NOT SETUP WIFI!  Instead plug in the direct cable to your router, and hit the menu button on your remote.  You will see "connecting to network."
6  Once you are past the start up splash video you will eventually arrive at the connect to itunes screen which will start looping the apple logo and a new code about every 2 seconds.  Disconnect the network cable.
    7.  After a few seconds the loop will stop.  Press the menu button to skip the itunes connection (you will be able to do it later.)
    8.  At the following menu go to Settings > Screen Saver > Set delay for "Never"
    9.  Go back to the main menu, then go to Settings > Network > Configure TCP/IP > Click on "Using DHCP"
    9.  Click "Done"
    10.  Connect cable to router, and then proceed with updating your ATV.
After I was updated the problem did not return.
I have completed this solution personally twice on the same unit.  After getting updated and stable, I recovered my ATV again, and had the same problems again.  Repeated these steps and good to go.
Hope this helps someone, and good luck!

  • Airport Express- Amber Light Blinking - Nothing works!

Looking for Henry B. (or anyone else with a bright idea).
A few days ago, no airport connection from my PB G4. I have had the same setup for the last year and a half without a problem - Airport 802.11b to AXP to T1 connection to/from my wall (no modem or router, etc.).
Problems started with the no-connection. Clicking on the Airport icon in the toolbar gave me the endless spinning wheel. Hard shut down, which I NEVER have to do. In the last four days, I've done hard shut downs about 30-50 times.
AXP: had a green light. Unplugged for 20 seconds, plugged back in to a green light. Did a soft reset, thinking something had to change so the PB would see the AXP. Amber blinking light. Hard reset. Amber blinking light. Factory default reset: Amber blinking light. Every time, the PB doesn't see the AXP or an Apple Newtork XXXXXX.
Plugging the ethernet cable from the wall directly into the PB works great. Called the ISP, great technician could see my connection, said everything was fine on their end and that they do not limit any wireless/router equipment usage.
Again, not a single problem until a few days ago.
With all the crashes, I saw that some Finder crashes were involving Application Enhancer. I had Application Enhancer until an hour ago - uninstalled it. Didn't help. Also read about StuffIt AVR causing problems bu thaven't located any file with that name.
Henry B., if you're out there, please send me a miracle cure.
    Cheers all,
    Jason

clicking Airport icon shows no available networks (i used to see some of the meighbors' networks sometimes. so i can't seem to connect wirelessly.
have another graphite iBook clamshell running Panther. didn't mention this earlier, but that computer has been acting similar to mine since the same day a few days ago. i just opened airport setup assistant and have the spinning ball for the last four minutes.
again, both computers worked fine until that day. the only things i could think of that would cause this coincidence are power surge, virus, or something to do with airport. PB is working fine now, after 4-5 restarts today. iBook now seems frozen.

  • TS1589 My amber light keeps blinking on my airport extreme

The utility tells me there is no internet connection but I know there is because my old router connects. What do I do next?

Sorry for your frustration but I bet we can get this to work.
    1.  You can't connect your computer to the Extreme using the USB port.  That is only intended for use with a printer, external hard drives, or powered USB hubs.   So just go ahead and unplug that for now.
    2.  We should be able to connect to the Extreme using WiFi.  On your Mac laptop choose the Extreme as your WiFi access point by clicking on your Wireless icon on the top right.  Once you are connected via wireless then run Airport Utility and you should then be able to setup the Extreme.  You could also connect to the Extreme temporarily by running a Ethernet cable to one of the Ethernet ports of the Extreme and then to your computer.
    3.  I'm going to cover the basics which usually fix this problem - just to make sure this is all done correctly.:
    1.  Make sure you have plugged the Ethernet cable from the Comcast modem to the WAN port of the Extreme.  The other 3 ports are switching ports and it won't work correctly if it is plugged into one of those ports.
    2.  After verifying the previous has been done correctly - power off both the modem and the Extreme,  Then, power on the modem and let it go through its startup till it is working correctly.  Then, power on the Extreme.  This may very well solve the blinking amber issue because what I have found is that cable modems are assigned their IP addresses by what equipment is connected to them - if your old Linksys router works fines when connected but the Extreme doesn't and the modem hasn't been reset then that should fix it.
Let me know what happens and if that doesn't work we can try something else.  If it doesn't work please post what error message Airport Utility is telling you - that will help as well.

  • I am having problems reestablishing my Time Capsule.  I had to get a new internet modem and that seemed to screw up my Time Capsule.  The amber light keeps blinking and it's not being picked up when my Macbook scans or when my PC scans for the wireless ne

I can't find my Time Capsule on my networks anymore.  It's like it doesn't exist. We got hit by a storm and that might have caused our internet modem from ATT to fry.  I replaced the modem today but now my Time Capsule isnt working.  It's blinking amber.  The PC its connected to through the ATT modem isn't finding it as it scans and its not in utilities.  My MacBook isn't finding the time capsule either when it scans.  Whenever I hooked up all the wires to the time capsule and the modem, the internet stops working.  I've tried resetting the time capsule but it's still blinking.  I had all my computer equipment on a power surge protector. A pretty good one.  All my other equipment is fine.  The ATT modem was old, so I thought it might not have even been the lightening.  Nothing else in home was injured by storm.  I am freaking out and need help!!!  I can't use my MACbook to do my internet work and all my files were backed up on the time capsule.
Another problem. My Time Machine isn't backing up now either.  What is up with that?
I would be soooo grateful if someone can help me!  Thanks a million!

A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

  • I just bought a new Motorola modem. Do I need to reconfigure my Airport Express? For some reason we have WiFi even though the amber light is blinking.

I just bought a new Motorola modem. Do I need to reconfigure my Airport Express? For some reason we have WiFi even though the amber light is blinking.

Typically, when changing out networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power reset of all of your networking equipment.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • I am connected to the internet, but the amber light keeps flashing. What is wrong?

What is wrong with my Airport express when the amber light keeps flashing, even though I am connected to the internet?

The AirPort Express has a message for you.
To find out what it is......
Open AirPort Utility, select the Express, click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (3rd line)
A window will open with details about why the Express is complaining.

after finish installing an update, the the status light keeps blinking and a picture of the connection between the micro USB and iTunes shows up - what is this about?

The update failed - using a USB to microUSB lead (that Apple annoyingly don't include!), try to restore the AppleTV software to current version software using instructions here:

Pay attention to differences in power connection depending on whether or not you have AppleTV2 or AppleTV 3.

  • Laptop won't start quickly but power wifi and caps lock light keeps blinking

Hi, it has happened before too but rarely but nowadays it happens on daily purposes.
When I switch on my laptop after leaving it for 8-9 hrs, it won't start up but instead power, wifi and caps lock light keep blinking. I tried removing battery and pressing power button for few minutes but nothing happens. Then i left it like that with lights blinking and after 15 20 minutes it booted. I did same yesterday too. I left it like that it booted after 20 minutes..so My question is "why is this happening? Is it a motherboard issue or is it because of cold moisturous weather here and laptop takes time to get warm up?" Should I show it to HP Service center?

    Hi @Nishant5788
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I see that you are having a problem getting your notebook to boot up normally. As for what is causing the problem the blinking Caps Lock should tell us what is causing the problem as it should be blinking in a pattern. This HP document Computer Does Not Start and LEDs blink has a chart that will tell you what the blink codes mean.
This is most likely a hardware issue and you can give us a call regarding repair options.  You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

  • Airport Express Green Light - Can't Get To Internet

    Hello.
I'm staying at a friends cottage. Their internet works fine (I can connect via ethernet to the internet). I can get the wireless network to work fine using Airport Express (green light on AX, shows network signal in menu bar).
When I try and connect to the internet via AX it fails.
I am using WPA2 Personal for the password.
    Am I missing something simple?
    Thanks in advance.
Hello... I tried to find this before I asked, but I couldn't narrow the search enough to find an answer... I'm sorry if this has been asked a lot before.

    Michael Tutton1 wrote:
I am connected directly from the back of the modem to the ethernet on the AX.
So you're replacing the friends' equipment (if any) with your AX? Some questions:
    1) Did you remove power from the modem for several minutes before you connected your AX? Some modems will refuse to connect to a "new" device until they're reset by that process.
    2) How is your AX configured? Settings in AirPort Utility of particular interest are AirPort panel, Wireless tab, Wireless Mode and Internet panel, Internet Connection tab, Connection Sharing.

  • Airport Express status light is flashing yellow

My Airport Express status light is flashing yellow. It has worked in the past, but not recently. I thought it might be a location problem so I moved it to within 6 ft of the computer and it is still happening. I tried the reset button and that didn't do anything. Any other ideas?

Have you done a factory reset?
