Airport Express and Brother HL-2040 printer from Windows

Hi all,
I'm installing an Airport Extreme network at home in order to share a printer. We have both macs and windows xp pcs. From my macBook no problems, I can see the printer and print. The problem comes with Windows XP:
I can add the printer using Bonjour but it does not print any file. I see the files queue in the printer window, and after several seconds I get an error message.
The printer is a Brother HL-2040 with the latest driver installed (Latest Version: B - Release Date: 27/03/2009)
Windows is XP home edition Service Pack 3.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Found the solution:
1. Make sure the Bonjour Service is running. Right click on My Computer, click on Manage, click on Services under Services and Applications. Scrroll down the list to "Bonjour Services." If it doesn't say "Started," then click on it and click on "Start."
2. Once the service has started, you will need to correct a bug in Bonjour. Run the Bonjour Printer Wizard, click on the printer and click on "Next." See if the entry under "Model" matches the model of your printer. If not, click on next and then click on back. You will see a different dialog box which gives you a choice of models. Scroll to the correct one and then click on it. Apparently Bonjour chooses the wrong model by default and doesn't let you correct it until after you have installed the wrong driver -- an Apple quirk.

  • Airport Express won't recognize TSC printer

We are having a really weird issue with a new 802.11n Airport Express. It refuses to recognize a specific USB printer attached to it (TSC TTP-245c label printer, to be precise). By "refuses to recognize" I mean the printer does not show up in the Printers dialog within the Airport Utility (5.6 in this case... don't even get me started on 6.0, which doesn't even HAVE a printer dialog anymore) and attempting to send print jobs to it fail.
Anyway, the really bizarre thing is that the Airport Express DOES see other USB printers we connect to it, and the TSC printer DOES work fine on other USB print servers, or from a notebook PC via USB, etc... even an OLD g-only Airport Express can see the TSC printer just fine. It's ONLY the specific combination of a NEW Airport Express and the TSC-245C printer that doesn't work.
I'm sure I'll get replies asking me to update a driver, update firmware, etc. So let me save you the trouble... this has absolutely nothing to do with drivers as the print server (Airport Express) itself cannot see the physical printer attached to itself, and the Airport is already running 7.6.1 (though I did try and revert back to 7.5 to see if it made any difference, and it did not). I also verified that the TSC printer is running the latest firmware available for it.
So what do you do when you have two devices that are working fine independently with OTHER devices, but won't work with EACH OTHER? Is there any way to get this information to Apple so they can investigate why their new device is having trouble with this one particular printer model? I've already started the process of telling TSC that they need to obtain a new Airport Express to see if they can figure out what's wrong, but it could very well be a problem on Apple's side... after all, their OLD Airport works against this printer just fine.
All that said, I'm not expecting to get any magical fix from these forums... I'm mainly trying to find out how this can get "run up the flagpole" at Apple so they can perhaps investigate. Is anyone aware of similar problems with OTHER brands of printers? Again, the symptom is simple: Connect a USB printer to the new AirPort Express and it just isn't seen by the Airport.
    Any advice appreciated!

I don't think all printers will work.
Have you read this Apple article?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1253
    Still not working?
If your printer still doesn't work with AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule printer sharing but does work when directly connected to your Mac, contact the printer manufacturer for additional information.
As the article states above, you would have to contact the printer manufacturer.
Apple has no control of third party vendors.

  • Problem with Airport Express and HP PSC 1410

Please I really need help. I just bought a HP PSC 1410 (all in one) and I connected on Airport Express and I can't print trought it. I tried to connect it by USB and it work perfectly. When you want to had the printer in printer utility you can find the right driver for the printer. Rendez-vous can find it but you can not install it...
I tried many different way but it never worked.
    please help me ???

I suggest you return the PSC1410 for refund, or for credit towards the purchase of another printer. This printer will not work when connected via an Airport Express. When you purchase your next printer, chose one found on the unofficial compatibility list at http://www.efelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html
In general, all-in-one printers are poor choices for connecting via an Airport Express. Even if you do get them to work, you can only make use of their printing function.

  • Airport Express and World of Warcraft

    Hello!
I'm currently having issues running World of Warcraft off of my Airport Express. When I try to log into WoW, I get a connecting... message until the client times out, and I get the unable to connect message. However, if I then leave the WoW app, I come back into Windows, and my wireless internet connection is completely shut down. I have to go back in and reconnect to the airport to gain a signal again.
Has anyone heard of this issue?

Hi, I don't really have a solution to your problem, but I can confirm that I'm not having the same problem. I can stream 128 Kbps tunes to Airport Express and my latency only goes from ~54ms to ~62ms, so not much effect. Are you trying to stream very high bitrate songs (like uncompressed)? I thought I read somewhere that the Airtunes function downsampled everything to 128 for transmission, but I'm not sure about that. Also, I'm running my network in 802.11b-only mode (not g), and I have Robustness turned off. When Robustness was on, the connection seemed flakey (not with WoW, just in general), so I turned it off and it's been fine.

  • If I use my Airport Express to establish a network printer can I print from my IPad and iPhone?

I want to be able to print to a network printer with my IPad and IPhone with IOS 5.0.1.  Seems like there is a limited number of printers that can "AirPlay" from these devices.  I have an Airport Express and I know how to connect a printer and set it up as a network printer, my question is can I wirelessly print from my Ipad and iPhone then.  Seems too easy for what appears to be a limited set of new printers that have that have Thai function built in.

Printopia allows me to print from an iPad2 to any printer that is connected to the USB port of my AriPort Extreme.

  • Is it possible to print from Windows 8.1 to a printer connected to the USB port on an Airport Express?

Is it possible to print from Windows 8.1 to a printer connected to the USB port on an Airport Express?
    a) HP printer with USB port only (no ethernet port) connected to Airport Express
    b) No issue printing from Macs
    Tests
    1) Installed Bonjour 2 - does not find printer (now uninstalled)
    2) Bonjour 3 is listed in programs but no way to access
    3) Using TCPIP address (and no Bonjour) gives 'Unsupported Personality' error when printing test page
    Regards

p.s. why are all Windows 8.1 questios n the forum 'Locked' with no reply?

This is possible, but not with Bonjour or any other fixes.  It is just a printer set up based on the Port name of the Airport, 10.0.1.1.
I found the answer on YouTube, Title: Windows Printing For Apple AirPort Extreme without Bonjour Wireless wifi.

  • HP Laserjet 1020 connected to Airport Express - Can't Print from Windows XP

    Hi,
I have been using Airport Express for almost a year now, and it works fine with my old LaserJet 1200 connected to it, meaning that BOTH my ThinkPad(WinXP) and PowerBook(OSX 10.3) prints off the printer nicely. Last week I bought a LaserJet 1020 to replace the old printer. Now I can only print off my Mac, and not the ThinkPad.
    Here are some additional information:
    - Airport Express has been updated with latest updates.
    - Using newest printer driver available from the HP website.
    - New printer works when connected to ThinkPad via USB.
    - New printer works when connected to Airport Express and printing performed using my PowerBook.
Therefore, My conclusion is that Airport Express and Printer is working just fine, and that it's just my ThinkPad not being configured correctly. (Although at the back of my head I am guessing that just MAYBE it's the Airport Express not accepting a different printer)
This is what I did to install the printer from my ThinkPad to work with Airport Express (which is not working):
    1. Add a printer
    2. Local printer attached to computer (no auto detect)
    3. Selected existing TCP/IP port 10.0.1.1
    4. Selected my new printer driver
    5. Finish
I also tried a few things like:
    - Deleting the TCP/IP port and creating it again before installing the new printer again.
    - Off both airport express and printer and on again after about 10sec.Airport was on first, and after the LED turn green, printer was turned on and USB plugged into airport.
    - Restarting my ThinkPad.
I have tried everything that I can think of, and nothing worked... hence this posting to get professional help.

    Hi,
You might want to download and install bonjour for windows to your Thinkpad it is how I got my roomates XP laptop to print on AX.

  • Can I use Airport Express to connect to a printer, Time Machine Back up drive, second b/u drive, and scanner through a USB hub? if so, how?

I have an Airport Express that connects to my printer. I'd like to add a scanner, and two back up drives (one for use with Time Capsule, another specifically for photographs backed up from Adobe Lightroom.
The printer connects to the Airport Express through a USB hub and is recognized.  I cannot get the scanner nor either of the back up drives to be recognized.  Is there a way to do it or will I need to rely on a USB hub wired to the USB port of the MacBookPro?  If it is possible, can you walk me through the set up for each?
    Thanks,
    Doug Earle

I'd like to add a scanner, and two back up drives (one for use with Time Capsule, another specifically for photographs backed up from Adobe Lightroom.
Unfortunately, the USB port on the AirPort Express will only work with a compatible printer.
It will not work with a scanner, copier, or hard drive.
It should be possible to do what you want by connecting a powered USB hub to your Mac and then connecting the devices to the powered hub.
The setup for the scanner and hard drive would be covered by the manfacturers documentation, so providing specific advice for those types of products would be outside the realm of this support area.
But, if you can provide model numbers, it is always possible that another user who is using those products might see this post.

  • Airport Express and Lexmark P6200 printer

I get 'error message 9672' When I try to add my printer (a Lexmark P6250) through the Airport Express USB connector. The printer is fine when coupled to the iBook via wire. Could there be a compatibility problem & if so is there a way around it.

Ok, well I solved it on my end for now.
I called Apple Support and they told me there aren't instructions anywhere for how to connect a printer to the Airport Extreme via Ethernet because they can can only assist you if you're connecting your printer to the Airport Express via USB. If you're using anything besides a USB (Ethernet in this case), they "can't help." From what I understand, it has something to do with them (Support) being able to detect what's going on with your setup if your Airport is connected via USB, and they can't "see anything" if the connection is via Ethernet cable. She said I'd have to take it up with the manufacturer of the printer...
But--what I did instead--is I connected the printer to the Airport Express via the Ethernet cable, I went to "Print & Fax", deleted the old queue for the printer, added a "new" printer, and there it was, under detected devices via Bonjour!
Why couldn't she have told me to delete the "old printer" and add a "new printer" via "Print & Fax"?
Anyway, in retrospect, it was a relatively easy problem to solve (given my computer and my printer, a Samsung ML-2851ND). But with all these wires and configurations (not to mention excitement and expectation) etc, etc, things can get confusing.
    Hope this helps!

  • Airport Express and Canon Pixma IP4500 wireless printing

    Hello,
I bought an Airport Express and set it up as an additional wireless network at an 5Ghz N mode. It's conneted to a Linksys Wireless router modem/router. Internet connectivity is fine from both iMac 24 and MacBook. Both use OSX 10.5.4.x
Airport is set up via USB with a Canon Pixma IP4500 inkjet. When connected directly to the iMac, it prints fine. When I connect the IP4500 to the Airport Express, I get an Error 300 - basically saying the printer is not responding.
The whole point of the Airport Express was a faster network for both wireless printing and playing iTunes wirelessly from the MacBook.
Any tips on what could be a common problem for this printer?
    Thanks

    I had a similar problem
I had to "add a new printer", so one printer refers to the directly connected printer and the other refers to the printer connected to the airport (bonjour).
    Greetings.

  • Help - Receive message "an error occurred printing this document" when using airport express and Ipad

Hi, I am trying to set up an airport express hub to work with a Star tsp100 receipt printer and IPad 2. The IPad is being used to accept credit card payments and I was hoping to print receipts out wirelessly using the airport express and receipt printer. I checked to make sure the airport express has the latest firmware and it does. The IPad software is also updated to the latest 7.1.  I then connected the Airport express and IPad and the network setup with no problems. I connected the receipt printer to the airport express using the USB slot available. While the printer comes up as available, when I attempt to print something, I get the error message "An error occurred printing this document" and I can cancel or Try again. No matter how many times I try, I continue to get this message and I lost as to the cause. When I disconnect and reconnect, another instance of the printer appears, but receive the same cryptic error message when I try to print. Totally lost, please help

    Hi kelston3,
In order to print from an iPad you will need to use a printer that is compatible with AirPrint, which is described in the following article -
    About AirPrint
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
AirPrint printers must be wireless on your network - not connected via USB to the base station. There is a list of printers that are known to be compatible with AirPrint in the article.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Airport Express and HP F4180 All in One Printer

    Hi
I just bought an Apple Airport Express to connect my F4180 to my wireless home network. This F4180 used to be connected directly via USB to my Vista PC and was available to the other laptops by sharing the printer. This worked ok, but I always had to start this specific computer to make the F4180 available for the other laptops.
After installing the Airport Express and Bonjour everything seemed perfect, but after the first print I noticed that only 60% of the page was printed and an error occured. I tried everything, installing, reinstalling, deleting, reading forums, helpdesks, etc, etc, but did not find an answer.
    Does anyone have a clue?
    Thanx in advance
    Henri

HP F4180 All in One printer,
    Apple Airport Express (latest version),
    Apple Bonjour (latest version),

Apple Airport Express installed as extension of existing network

This combination SHOULD work but it often does not.  I have replaced several base routers from non-Airport to Airport and resolved issues like this - USB printers, AirPlay issues, etc.  Its the only way I know how to make it work, sorry.

  • Is Printer HP Laserjet 1018 compatible with Airport Express and windows

I am using HP Laserjet 1018 which is connected directly to the PC.
As it is a USB printer but not a wifi one, can I connect it to Airport Express and will it be recognised ?
    Thank you for your answers.

    Hello TigerParis75,

  • I was told at the Apple store that I could simply plug in ( electric power) the Airport Express and it would find my wireless network. I hoped to use it as a way to play music from my iphone. I do not use other Apple routers etc,

The Airport Express is not finding my wireless network. I do not have any of the devices listed below. I have a Belkin wireless router. Can I still use Airport Express ( without plugging an ethernet cable into it) ? Any ideas for how to make it find my network ? It is sitting next to the wireless router-so is in range.
If you already have a wireless network in your home and want to extend its range, AirPort Express can help. Just place it in range of your primary base station — an AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule, or another AirPort Express — and near the area where you want your wireless connection. Launch the easy-to-use AirPort Utility app on your iOS device or Mac, and you’re mere minutes away from long-range Wi-Fi enjoyment.

Hi - you can do what you want to do with AirPlay from your iPhone - but unfortunately it is not as easy as the people in the Apple store told you - your first problem is that you have a non Apple router - you cannot extend a non Apple router wirelessly with the Express - you can only join the network and connect an ethernet device to it - you can however connect via ethernet and have it create a wireless network of its' own - you can set this up from your iPhone or the XP - but this is a complicated setup and would involve many different discussion areas of this forum - therefore I would suggest that you use your 90 days of support and consult directly with Apple to do this - go to this link - http://www.apple.com/support/contact/

  • Macbook airport extreem and brother printer/scanner DCP-330C

I have macbook airport extreem and brother printer/scanner DCP-330C and everything works fine.
    I can print wireless.
The only thing that irritates me is, when I start my macbook I first see a screen with MFL-ProSuite, I quit then a screen with connect with USB, I quit and then I see a small blue screen.
Is there a way to get rid of these things, so I can start directly with the things I want to do.
    Thanks for the reply.
    Frank

That is something that has to do with the brother software. Doesn't have anything to do with the airport base station.
I would try and Contact brother to see about disabling it.
What I think , is probably because the printer is on the airport not the computer so brothers software is getting confused.
See about deleting just the software and not the drivers. That is if you dont need the software.
