Airport express and itune streaming over distance

What is the distance in airport express can pass signal through audio out port? Can I connect an 75 foot stereo mini to rca connector cable to my stereo successfully? Thanks for anybodies help.

I'm not sure of the exact length restriction, but I have used a 100' cable with my AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to connect to the stereo and it worked just fine.

  • Having issue with Airport Express and Itunes - Please Help

Ok, I am having a very odd issue with my wireless music network all of a sudden, and it's driving me nuts. I have searched the forum and I don't get the sense that anyone else is having this issue.
My house consists of multiple machines, but I have my music on two computers - my G5 desktop and a Mac Mini. I am in the process of encoding all of my CDs to Apple Lossless for storage on the G5, and access of this library provided to all machines on the network (6 total including the G5).
I have 2 airport express units in the house, each connected to a stereo. I have been using this setup for about a year or so, with no problems.
Suddenly now, when playing music wirelessly, the music (and I know this is going to sound weird) has intermittent popping, will skip alot (like a CD player skips), and seems to almost speed up during the skipping. It is SO weird, and I have no clue how to fix it.
I am mainly confused as to where the issue could be coming from. Is it the airport network? Is something wrong with Itunes? Something wrong with the machines? Interference in the home? B/c I have not had this issue before, I am not sure how to even troubleshoot it. I do know that until about a month ago, I had none of these issues.
Within the last 30 days, the only changes that I made were that 1) I have been encoding files to Apple Lossless (but I had some of these before with no streaming issues), 2) I purchased a Mac Mini (not sure what impact this would have), and I upgraded to the latest Itunes.
Any thoughts you can provide for me are very appreciated. ***** to finally be setting up this music server and now start having wireless music issues. Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm also suffering from skipping/sped up music, only when streaming certain internet radio stations to my Express (for example, friskyRadio in the electronica section). Mine's setup not to distribute IP addresses, if that's relevant.
Other than installing iTunes version 7 (now at 7.0.1) nothing has changed on my network, or on my computer.

  • Airport Express and iTunes 10

Since updating to iTunes 10 yesterday my Air Express will not stream music to remote speakers, have tried everything from various forums. All software/firmware is up to date and opertional - all I get is the ubiquitous "unknown error - 15000"
Anybody else having this problem, and yes I have restarted, rebooted etc. I can access Air Express over wifi, everything checks out. thanks

Ladies and Gents- I have the definitive solution to the AptExp/iTunes 10 problem.
It's 100% a firewall issue affecting both widows and mac. To get around this you need to:
    1. Uninstall iTunes 10 first
    2. Reboot
    3. Download and re-install iTunes 10 (accepting all security permissions)
    Will work a treat.
n.b. in the slightest case that it STILL doesn't work- disable IPv6 and start from step 1 above. (Windows: Network Sharing Centre- Change Adapter Settings- Right click on the wireless network adapter-uncheck IPv6)

  • Airport modem and itunes streamed same time

Is it possible to be online with my wireless connection through (via a Netgear router) and at the same time to stream Itunes to airport express? Currently, my mac G4 asks me to choose one or other of the connections.

You must configure the Express to be a client on the Netgear's wireless network. You can use the Airport Setup Assistant to accomplish this. Make sure you do not specify that you want to extend the range of the wireless network: the Netgear router is incapable of supporting that feature.

  • Airport Express and Netflix streaming movies

Problem: When a Netflix movie streams to my BluRay wireless-capable DVR, I get maybe five minutes of the movie, then an error message saying "can't connect to Netflix".
The TV set is in a room about 70 feet from my original Airport Express, which I use in a home office as a wireless network between my two computers (Mac mini running 10.4.11 and a Windows Vista laptop). Through AE the two computers share an internet connection and a printer.
To get Netflix movies, on Apple's advice I bought a second AE to extend the signal range and placed it about halfway between my home office setup and the room with the TV. The distance, as I said, is about 70 feet across four rooms.
Neither Netflix tech support or LG tech support has provided a solution despite several calls to each.
    Any ideas?

I just bought a newest Airport Extreme, because the AirPort Express would drop to my newest MacBook Pro using WiFi and viewing a NetFlix instant/streaming movie. My Airport Express would only cover a small part of my house. At work, we have an older Airport Extreme and it covers a huge area! So, I was thinking I'll buy a newest Airport Extreme and get great coverage throughout my house and NetFlix will stream perfectly!
Unfortunately, I get pretty much the same results with the AirPort Extreme as my old AirPort Express!?!?!? I don't get good coverage throughout my house and NetFlix drops!?!?!? THe error is something like (from NetFlix), "dropped internet, testing and will reset to lower quality for uninterrupted viewing".
So, the Airport Extreme didn't help at all? I see a strong signal, but still get dropped Netflix.
Funny thing is, If I use an old Xbox wireless adapter and connect to my Motorola modem/WiFi router, the movies stream fine and I get a good signal throughout the house!?
I would much rather be able to use the built in Airport card on my newest MacBook Pro and the Airport Extreme....
    Any ideas?
What settings should I change from the default Airport Extreme settings?
    Thank you.... (anyone?)

  • Airport Express and iTunes give error: 'An unknown error (-15006) occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device'

    Hi guys & girls,
Yesterday I bought an Airport Express 802.11n (1st generation); solely for the purpose of listening to my music without connecting any cables to my speakers.
I've done the set-up (i.e. linked the AE to my existing network without any Ethernet) and connected the AE to my speakers, and the light turns green. However, when I try to make a connection in iTunes to the base station, I get the following error: 'An unknown error (-15006) occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Base Station 5bf269”.'
I'm quite a noob with computers and the technical aspects, however, I normally get around by googling and trying out some things. I've tried the following things already:
    - Downloaded Airport Utility 5.6 to change the IPv6 to Host (Configuration is set on automatic)
    - Firmware update for the Airport Express to 7.6.1
My iTunes version is 10.6.3, am using MacBook Pro Mac OS X 10.7.4. I really have no clue what could be wrong and how to fix this. I'm only sitting 2 meters away from the AE so it cannot be about the range. Can someone help me please?
    Thanks!!

No more need for an answer... the problem has been solved!

  • Airport express and choppy streaming video

I am running AX with a DHCP router from my service provider. Up until recently I watched streaming video (Adobe Flash Player) with no problems.  Now the video seems to stutter and have to rebuffer often and it seems to happen when Airport  is "Looking for new Networks".  This means the video stutters every 30 seconds or so.  Is there any way to avoid this?  My connection does not actually drop, it's just the streaming video that gets broken up.
So far I have tried to
    manually stick to one channel
reset the airport express to factory settings (which actually helped a bit; stutters from every 10 seconds to every 30 seconds)
    fiddled with interference robustness
    Any suggestions?

  • Wireless, ethernet, Airport Express and iTunes

In December, I picked up a iSight iMac (G5).
I have the iMac "talking" to my Airport Extreme base station a few feet away. In the same room I have a wireless phone (pre 2.4GHZ phone wireless technology). About 40 feet away I have an Airport Express connected to my stereo.
When using iTunes to broadcast to the stereo wirelessly, I will have cut-outs due to signal loss. I have read the boards about using Interference Robustness, etc. I also have slow Safari page call-ups periodically when using the wireless connection.
I installed a 4 port Linksys router (hanging off the Airport Extreme base station) to hardwire the iMac via ethernet to eliminate signal loss to/from the AX base station for singal transmission.
However, with wireless turned off on the iMac, iTunes will not allow me to choose the remote speakers.
The iMac also seems to get confused when wireless is turned on AND ethernet is plugged in. If both are modes are enable d, which is used for i-net connectivity.
What's the best way to go here????

    Issue solved.
iStumbler uncovered that the Airport Extreme base station was configured using a Closed Network. The Airport Express was configured using the same network but not "Closed Network".
Wireless iMac works fine with iTunes, and no music dropouts due to the changes above and the latest Airport Extreme firmware patch.

  • Itunes freezes when streaming music to airport express and to loewe air speaker at the same time?

    Hi,
    (first post )
I was recently offered a Loewe Airspeaker. I already had an Airport Express connected to a hi-fi system.
The Airport Express + hi-fi is in the living-room and the Loewe Airspeaker is in our bedroom.
Both are connected to my network via wifi.
I was trying to stream music from my iMac to both the Airport Express and the Loewe Airspeaker.
When doing this, I am able to get the same tune on both devices, but iTunes systematically freezes
=>music continues to be streamed but interface on the iMac gets the endless multicolor wheel !
Has anyone seen anything similar before, for ex. is there a similar issue when streaming music to 2 different Airport Express?
Any idea on where this is coming from?
Any idea on how to prevent this?
    Thx in advance
    Rodolphe
A few precisions on the configuration:
the iTunes library and corresponding music are located on a Mac Mini configured as a media server.
The iMac connects to the mac mini via wifi (shared folder). Home network is organized via an Airport Extreme.
Both computers run Mac OS 10.7.2 Lion and are up to date.

Well, repying to my own post... Might have found the solution: I tried to do the same with a Macbook Pro 2010 using the very same setup. And it worked perfectly! No freeze, no nothing.
    One explanation I see:
my iMac is dating back to May 2007, a Core 2 Duo 2,16Ghz with 2 Go of RAM.
So the computer's characteristics (or the Wifi component or the combination of all of this) might be not robust enough to allow streaming to those 2 devices...
    Anyone's got anything to add?

  • I have bought a new airport express and using it with my macbook (iTunes 10.2.2). I have joined an existing network for internet in my home and with that i am trying to play the music via itunes but there is audio dropouts every 60 secs or so. any soln ?

I have bought a new airport express and using it with my macbook (iTunes 10.2.2). I have joined an existing wireless network for internet in my home and with that i am trying to play the music via itunes but there is audio dropouts every 60 secs or so. I am using a set of speakers from kenwood connected to the airport express. The operating system on my macbook is mac os X 10.5.8. i am sure it is not a problem of streaming music online because i have even tried playing music which are stored in my macbook.
Is there any problem with the setting in itunes or quicktime ? Kindly reply...... I am waiting for your valuable suggestion.
Thank you a lot in advance.

I am shocked to have found this same AX audio dropout problem starting TODAY, every few seconds the audio just drops for a couple seconds and then resumes:  Latest software versions of everything.  No iPad, iPhone or Touch.  Internet hardwired to D-Link DES1105 (1000baseT Switch) hardwired to new 80211N AX, AX optical to stereo, AX Wi-Fi internet to basic 1st-gen MacBook operating at 80211G, and an older 'G' AX extender at the far end of the house, away from all this.  The MacBook streaming iTunes is usually 12 feet from AX.  I've used this setup for years of trouble-free AirTunes / Airplay until today.  Today I also found 2 very reliable fixes and 1 way to force a dropout, but first, I read some posts and tried ALL following settings one-at-a-time and restored them ALL because NONE of them helped:  Turned off IPV6.  Streamed to multiple speakers 'Computer' and 'AX' (restored to just AX).  Turned off 'Ask to Join new (WiFi) Networks'.  Turned off Bluetooth (can't live without Magic Trackpad, so glad that wasn't it).  Here's my discoveries:  Lo and behold, each time I click the Airport icon in the Menu (you know it shows you've got 4 bars from AX) when the status switches to 'Looking for Networks' for a second it CAUSES the AX audio to drop out for a couple seconds (it never did that before today.)  iTunes still playing, streaming, AX laser still lit, but the 'PCM' light on stereo and the sound GOES OUT EVERY time I click the Airport icon in the menubar, just like the regular, annoying dropouts.  So, to reduce traffic I quit Safari (3 tabs, no streaming, just Gmail, Google, and Netflix browsing).  Lo and behold, the dropouts stopped altogether.  No other Web apps going (not iTunes Store, Genius, Ping, nothing), so I launched Chrome to the same 3 tabs and the dropouts HAVE NOT RETURNED.  That's right, not only did simply QUITTING SAFARI cure it, and Chrome doesn't contribute to it, but I can demonstrate it just by forcing my Airport to re-scan.  Works for me, written using Chrome.  The other reliable fix is to hardwire MacBook to the Switch.  This is obviously not ideal, but Airplay audio doesn't drop out over Ethernet.  Also, in all my tests, it made no difference whether iTunes did the streaming, or Airfoil did.

  • Airport express and a bose system stopped streaming suddenly.

I have been using airplay on my airport express and a bose system for 6 months. It works flawlessly. I was streaming Pandora to the airport express and suddenly it went off. The icons are present on all of my devices. The bose stopped working also.

Problem solved by rebooting base station.

  • Sound breaking up on Airplay if I stream to Airport Express and Apple TV

I have recently bought an Airport Express and latest Apple TV. Both are running nicely on my network, and I can use Airplay to stream music to either from my iMac, but if I try to stream to both then the sound breaks up? Can anyone advise why and how to fix this? Could it be my wireless network isn't up to it (11g)
    Many thanks for any advice!

I am not sure this is entirely relevant but since I found these discussions helpful when I had a similar problem here is my two penn'orth.
We have a complex system with two Airport Extremes and 4 Airport expresses of various vintages.  One of these was an old (meaning 'g' only & needs Airport Utility 5.6 to service) one, but this had wireless set to 'off' and only served to stream sound to the house HiFi.  This one and all but one of the others were roamed (that is Ethernet cable connected), as is the Mac Mini House server (other machines are WiFi).
Breaking up (& other intermittent network issues) only seemed to start with Maverick.  I solved this very persistent problem by replacing the old Express with a new one (in fact replacing one of the others and using that).  I could conjecture that this had been the only node on the network not capable of GE (though some devices like webcams are not either), but I do not see why this was important.
I still think this rather strange - even the presence or absence of high-data services like eyeTV Netstream made no difference.  But having solved it I should not complain - though it would be nice to understand it.  It would also be nice if the Airport Extremes included a sound port...
All the Airport devices had been carefully set up according to Apple's default recommendations - so yes some might use 5GHz, though shutting this down did not help. (they still are).
    Hope this helps someone!

  • Advised to get an "extender" to be able to stream netflix, etc. through new digital tv.  Apple store told me to buy Airport Express and set up WDS.  Upon reading about WDS it stated cannot set up WDS with Airport Express 802.11n,

Ok, if you are connecting the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to the existing wireless network, then the DSL in the next room is most likely a combination DSL modem and wireless router. Thanks for clarifying that for me.
Although they may only be separated by a single wall, the building material used in that wall may be enough to prevent the AX from receving a "good" signal from the DSL router.
Since I don't know what computing equipment you have available, please check out this AirPort User Tip: AirPort - Optimal Base Station Placement to see if you can get some SNR measurements at the location of your AX. To do this properly, you will want to power-off the AX and only get these measurements for the DSL router.
