  • Airport Express and Linksys bridge, HELP!!!

    Hello,
I was just wondering if it was possible to use a Linksys router as a primary wireless access point and using the Airport express to bridge/ extend the wireless network?
If so, what are the steps that i must take to make it happen?
Would i be able to thus use the airport express' ethernet connection cable to connect to my xbox 360, in effect, turning the Airport express into an expensive wireless ethernet adapter?
    Thanks in advance...
    Ian

    Thanks a lot...
Just one last question though, would i be able to use the ethernet cable from the airport express and connect it to let's say, an xbox 360, will the airport express work as a wireless ethernet adapter now?

  • Airport Express and Linksys

This should be an easy question to answer...
If I have a printer connected to an Airport Express Base Station, can I print to it (from a MacBook Pro) and connect to the internet via a Linksys Base Station at the same time? I won't have to swap my Airport connection back and forth on my MBP will I?

If your Linksys is a wireless router, simply configure the AirPort Express (AX) to join a wireless network as a client.
If your Linksys is not a wireless router, simply connect the AX via Ethernet to one of the LAN ports on the Linksys. Configure the AX to act as a bridge.

  • Airport Extreme and Linksys WRT54G v8 set up in WDS mode not working

Hi, I am trying to set up my Linksys WRT54g v8 router with DD-WRT v8.0.0.6 firmware as a WDS remote to my Airport Extreme Base Station set up as the WDS main, with WPA2 personal encryption, and it appears that they are talking to one another, but when I plug in a mac with ethernet to the Linksys, I can hit the linksys router to program it but it won't go out to the internet and gets a self-assigned IP.

    Welcome to the discussions!
Duane posted a list of known WDS compatible devices about 6 weeks ago and the Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS were shown as compatible, but not v5. Your post indicates that you have v8, so this may not be possible.

  • Airport Express and Linksys Router Problem

I have a Linksys wireless router through which I connect to the internet using my Macbook Pro without any difficulties. I recently purchased an Airport Express unit in order to connect to my stereo and play music using Itunes. However, I seem to be unable to set up the Airport Express as the Airpor Utility does not seem to be able to find it. I tried connecting it to the router using an ethernet cable and this did not seem to solve the problem? Does anyone have any recommendations to solve this problem?

Thank you for the suggestion. That allowed me to see it to configure it but once I disconnect it to restart it I the network cannot find it and it just blinks orange. I am guessing that it is because I have set the network security incorrectly. I set it at WEP 128. How do I check to see how the Linksys is configured? Or do you think it might be something else? Thank you.

  • Airport Express joining Linksys WRT54G Wireless network

I have spent hours trying all different ways of getting my Airport Express to join my Linksys network. And then I discovered that I have to *__remove the spaces from my WPA password__* in order for my AX to join the network. My iMac and MacBook all join the network with spaces in the password, but for some reason the AX does not.
This may be superstition, but I also made sure the pass phrase was all uppercase and exactly 13 characters. Don't know if that makes a difference, but I was tired of trying different things.
    Hope this helps some one.

  • Airport Express and Linksys WAG200g

    Hi,
I have the above. A PC connected via THe Airport Express is set to WPA-Mixed.
I have a MacBook which I'm using to attempt to extend the network to play iTunes via the AE. Both Mac and PC have open iTunes.
I use the Mac utility to set the password.
I select ""I have a wireless network and want to add AE"
Next "I want AE to join my existing network"
Next "Join" so I can use iTunes
Next I select the house network and choose WPA/WPA2 Personal
The setup is written, the light flashes orange, and that's it.
If I configure the router to have no security (no, it's not an acceptable workaround) it just works.
How do I get this to work then?

    Hi,
    English is dreadful.
I have WAG200G router connected to the DSL. A PC is connected to my router via ethernet.
Wireless is enabled on the router with security set to WPA-Mixed
I have a MacBook and Ipod Touch which both connect wirelessly.
I have an Airport Express which I'm using to attempt to extend the network to play iTunes. Both Mac and PC have open iTunes.
I use the utility on the MacBook to configure the AE.
First it asks me to switch to the AE wirelessly, then to set a local password
I select "I have a wireless network and want to add AE"
Next "I want AE to join my existing network"
Next "Join" so I can use iTunes
Next I select the house network and choose WPA/WPA2 Personal
The setup is written, the light flashes orange, and that's it. It tells me the setup worked correctly. The util tells me it's switching back to the house network and the internet returns, but the util tells me it can't find any Apple Wireless devices. However the light flashes amber..
If I configure the router to have no security (no, it's not an acceptable workaround) it just works.
How do I get this to work then?

  • Airport Express and WRT54G v8

    Airport express firmware: v6.3
    WRT54G: v8
    I'm unable to get my Airport Express to join my existing wireless network in Client mode. I've been able to get it to join other wireless networks using WPA, but with my new WRT54G v8 I haven't succeeded;
    - Has anyone got an Airport Express to join a WRT54G v8 wireless network?
    - Does the Airport Express support WPA2 when joining a non-Apple 802.11g network? It just shows WPA on the drop-down box for me.
    - Is the channel selection important?
    - For WPA, I've previously had to enter a $ before my ASCII-format password. Is that true in general for WPA and WPA2?
Having owned this Airport Express for 4 yrs, I have to say I'm dismayed by the level of frustration I've had with it, but I'm locked into it because I used Itunes.

I have the exact same problem. I purchased the airport express yesterday, and trying to hook it up in client mode, wirelessly to the wrt54g to be a print server. I set it up with the ethernet patch cord attached to the airport express and the wrt54g. It gets set up great and I can print and attach my clients (2 windows and 1 mac) wirelessly to the wrt54g network. If I leave the ethernet connected within 5 minutes my wireless network slows to a crawl and then stops traffic. If I disconnect the ethernet cable instantly the network returns to normal speed. But the airport express is no longer reachable. Granted it doesn't have the same IP and has to re-establish connection. However, it never re-establishes and flashes amber. Seems like it has to be security related as it seems to connect OK when the ethernet cord is attached.
I assume that to set the airport express up in client mode that the first configuration has to be made with the ethernet cord attached. Then when it resets itself to re-read the new configuration that I am supposed to unhook the ethernet cord. As it should be talking to the wrt54g through the wireless connection rather then the hard ethernet connection.
The setup steps I go through are:
    - push the hard reset to get to factory settings
    - connect ethernet patch cord from airport express to wrt54g
    - bring up airport utility on macbook pro
    - airport is found and press continue
    - create a password - continue
    - select I have a network - continue
    - select join the network wirelessly - continue
    - select my network from wrt54g
    - select security
--I have tried the 40bit with the wrt54g 64bit WEP
--I have tried 128bit WEP on both
---neither works...if I try something else I need details on how to set it up
    - continue and wait for when it restarts....
    - If I leave the ethernet cord in, and switch back to the wrt54g wireless network, the airport express shows up in the airport utility very quickly. and seems to work for a while before taking my wireless network down.
    - If I remove the ethernet cord and switch the macbook over to the wrt54g wireless network, the airport express never shows up in the airport utility and the airport express flashes amber. From the manual, this says there is connectivity issues. And through process of elimination, looks like the airport express can't get passed the security with the wrt54g.
So, I too, look for assistance.
PS. I have had the wrt54g for a couple of years and have not upgraded firmware so if that is necessary then I can do that.
PSS. At the very first airport express setup there was a new firmware loaded. Does this have to be re-applied if the airport express is hard reset (ie, paper clip in the reset hole for 10 seconds)?

  • Airport Express and Surround Sound Issue

I recently have lost the ability to play music via Airport Express through my surround sound. It was working one day, I synced my IPhone and the option to play music through my surround sound is gone. Same with the "Remote" application for IPhone.
Note: I am able to chose "Computer" and / or "Apple Tv" but not my surround sound. Any ideas how to correct this and why this was changed?

Hello irk26. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Although the Linksys WRT54GL, which is Linux-based and running DD-WRT firmware, is WDS-capable, it can be tricky at times for it to be also WDS-compatible with the AirPort base stations ... as you are probably already aware.

I have a linksys WRT54G router that we use as a base. I want to use Airplay using Airport Express and hook up my stereo to it. How can i set up my Airport express without a PC/laptop? I just downloaded Airport utility on my iphone and ipad, will that work? And one more thing about the setup, the linksys router shich acts as a base is in a different room as the airport express which i wanted to use for airplay. So I'm hoping to hook up the Airport express via wireless signal. If i can set it up, can someone pls help me out by posting detailed instructions. Thanks so much!

The first message that AirPort Utility will display during the auto setup will be that the Express will be confgured to "extend" the network. When AirPort Utility analyzes the network further, and sees that the Express cannot "extend" the 3rd party network, the next message will indicate that the Express is being configured to "join" the wireless network.
Once the Express is configured, if you later go into AirPort Utility to check the settings under the Wireless tab, you will see that the Wireless Mode is indeed "Join a wireless network".

  • Airport Express with LinkSys Wireless connection

I already have a Linksys wireless router working in my house and I have a Power Mac G5 but NO wireless capabilities on it.
I was wondering if I could use an Airport Express and get the signal from my current wireless router, then use an ethernet cable to connect Airport Express to my Power Mac...
    Is this possible?

Hello jalex85. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I was wondering if I could use an Airport Express and get the signal from my current wireless router, then use an ethernet cable to connect Airport Express to my Power Mac...
That will depend on the model and firmware version of your Linksys router. In order to achieve what you are trying to do, you will need to set up a Wireless Distribution System (WDS) between the Linksys and the AirPort. Very few non-AirPorts are WDS-compatible with the AirPorts.
The only Linksys routers that I am aware of that are known to work are the WRT54G or WRT54GS (not v5) models. If you do have one of these, a quick Google-search, using keywords: Linksys AirPort WDS, will come up with at least a dozen articles on those who have been successful with this.

  • WDS setup with Airport Express and other(non-Apple) wireless router

    Hi,
I am trying to configure a wireless network with one airport express and one Planex Wireless access point. Can anyone please point me to the settings to be made for such a scenario? I can use either of them as the main WDS device, and have a (wired)router provided by the ISP in the network.(so total 3 devices : airport, planex a/p , ISP router)
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problem, both with a Linksys WRVS4400Nv2, and a WRT54G. I've not put much effort into the WRT, but the WRVS was such a pain that I don't think I can get it to work at all.
The WRT doesn't have a section on WDS, but I've read that it's supported anyways, and nothing needs to be enabled on it. Is there a good step-by-step available here or elsewhere that uses close to the same router and Airport Express units, on the latest Airport setup software?
Basically, I'm trying to set this up for a guy in an ~8000 sq. foot house so he has wireless throughout it, and he wants itunes streaming from the AX. Has anyone done this?

  • How do I install a new airport express and link a second airport express to extend the network of the first airport express?

I currently have a linksys wireless router attached to the Internet.  I have an A1264 Airport Express connected by Ethernet to the linksys router.  I have two network names, one for each wireless network.
I purchased a new A1392 Airport Express to replace the linksys router and join to the A1264 Airport Express, and I want to have one network name as a result.
How do I do this?  I realize that I have to reconfigure the A1264 device so that it is an extension of the A1392 device.

You have a fairly complicated set up, so I suggest that it would make sense to tackle things in stages, testing each stage as  you go, before proceding to the next stage.
Stage 1 would be setting up the A1392 first to the cable modem, and then making sure that everything is working correctly on the A1392 Express
Stage 2 would be adding the Netgear switch and testing each port with a laptop connected via Ethernet to make sure that everything is operational on the switch
Stage 3 would be connecting the A1264 Express and testing to make sure that it is extending the network correctly
Stage 4 would be adding other Ethernet devices to the Netgear switch and testing each one at a time before adding the next device. There is some question about whether an iOS device can print to an Ethernet connected printer....even if the printer is AirPrint compatible. You may need to connect the HP using wireless...not Ethernet....to gain full AirPrint functionality, or use another application that will allow printing like Printopia or Print Central using the Ethernet connection on the HP.
Stage 5 would be adding the printer to the A1264 AirPort Express.
You do not mention how the printer will connect to the A1264 Express, but I assume that it will be USB from your description.  Most printers will work, but you really will not know if your printer will work until you try.
Remember that only printing will be supported at the USB port of the Express. If you have an all-in-one type device, scan, maintenance, and other advanced features will not be operational whent the device is connected to the AirPort Express.
If you want to print from an iOS device like an iPad or iPhone, plan to add additonal software like Printopia or Print Central to possibly allow this function. There are no guarantees here as far as the iOS devices.

  • Connecting to Airport Express via Linksys Wireless-G adapter

I am trying to use a linksys compact adapter (WUSB600N) to connect a Windows XP PC to my Airport Express- The linksys monitor CAN detect the Airport Express, but "cannot associate with the access point" for a few seconds, then "can associate... but cannot find the Internet"
I haven't had any problems connecting my MBP and a Vista notebook to my AX, just this PC using this adapter.
    Can anyone help me?

To Connect your Computer to the Wireless Network you need to change some settings on your Router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Airport Express and Canon Pixma IP4500 wireless printing

    Hello,
I bought an Airport Express and set it up as an additional wireless network at an 5Ghz N mode. It's conneted to a Linksys Wireless router modem/router. Internet connectivity is fine from both iMac 24 and MacBook. Both use OSX 10.5.4.x
Airport is set up via USB with a Canon Pixma IP4500 inkjet. When connected directly to the iMac, it prints fine. When I connect the IP4500 to the Airport Express, I get an Error 300 - basically saying the printer is not responding.
The whole point of the Airport Express was a faster network for both wireless printing and playing iTunes wirelessly from the MacBook.
Any tips on what could be a common problem for this printer?
    Thanks

    I had a similar problem
I had to "add a new printer", so one printer refers to the directly connected printer and the other refers to the printer connected to the airport (bonjour).
