Airport Express/Apple TV Support?

Hey,
Have been searching through the forums but unable to locate any information around support for Apple TV With Aiport Express
In short, I have an iMac, MBPro, iPad, iPhone 4 and Apple TV. Just moved in to a new flat and looking at how to get a multi room audio set up going on.
If I get the airport plugs, I can jack speakers in to these thats clear, but can I stream audio from apple tv or better yet just my tv so I can get a surround sound set up in addition to the wireless music playback?
Thanks

Gwames
Just worked on a similar situation.
Client has iPad 2, Mac Book, Airport Express and Apple TV
You're looking to get Multiroom so you might want to consider this link:
Air play Multi Room Audio Speaker
Here is some other information on Whole Home Audio
And here are some tips and a video on Apple TV
Just to let you know, Apple policy wants to make sure you know by visiting the links we might benefit by your visit such as you might decide to come back or you might tell friends and we could even profit somehow.
Post any other questions you have.....and check out the video at the bottom of the Apple TV link, it has a suer short video

  • How many airport express can be supported by software remote at one time.

how many airport express can be supported by software remote at one time?
I mean remote software can control at one time

Well Apple makes an iOS application called 'Remote' it's used to control iTunes on a Mac, Or to control an Apple TV Multimedia features.
Apple also makes "AirPort Utility" for iOS. Airport Utility can be used to configure Aiport Extrem, Airport Express And Time Capsul using an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. You can use it to connect to one device at a time. While connected to the device you can configure it to work as part of a larger Airport network. If you want to configure muliple device, you would connect to one device,  configure it,  And then connect to the next device, and configure it, and so on and so fourth.
    I haven't found a limit.
How big of a network are you trying to make?

  • Airport express/Apple Tv to an Aircraft entertainment

    Hi Apple support community,
We would like to create a WIFI network onboard of an aircraft (without internet connexion) via an Airport express box.
Then to connect an Apple TV box to this wifi. This Apple Tv box connected to the aircraft entertainment.
The connection between the apple TV and the aircraft will be done by an HDMI/AV cable.
We would like to display video or audio from our Iphone 5s/ipad mini to the aircraft.
Do you think that it can works ?
If the wifi speed will enought to watch movies ?
Thanks a lot for your support and have a nice day
    all the best,
    Philippe

Yes that should be fine. You would be streaming content stored on the iPhone or iPad over the local network so connection speed would not be relevant. It would be best to connect ATV to the router via ethernet.

  • Airport Express operating sytstem support

Just got my airport express and it says that Mac OS X 10.5.2 won't support it?
    Help?

And which model do you have? Or, where did you get it? Is it new from Apple or an older model, maybe second-hand?

  • Airport Express & Apple TV Setup Problems

I am having some strange problems with my network. First, I reset my Airport Express and went through the steps of connecting it to stream music, however, the Airport Utility will not recognize it after restarting (I can do a hard reset and it will find the unit, but then hangs up over and over at the same point).
Also, at the same time, my Apple TV is showing in iTunes, can stream music and movies, but is not showing in the Airport Utility and will not sync.
I am not sure what I might have changed...any ideas

I am on 10.5.8. When I do a hard reset the airport Express, the computer finds it, however, after going through the steps to add it to my network to stream iTunes, it restarts and the computer can't find it (light continuously blinks amber).
The AppleTV is showing in my iTunes, but NOT in my list of wireless devices and it won't sync. So it does stream movies and music, just won't sync. When I try and sync it, I get a firewall error, but I have my firewall settings to allow all incoming devices.
Should I just reset everything and try and start over?

  • Airport Express, Apple TV & My Network

Okay, I'm not sure if this will work.
I have 2 computers in my office.
My DSL connection is there, under a thick heavy, unmoveable desk and shelf.
My Mac Pro connects with Ethernet, My iMac G4 (spiffed up) connects with airport extreme.
The wireless signal doesn't go very far in my small house.
Can I extend my signal with airport express and will it be like wireless go between?
My big tv and new apple TV (opening it on Christmas) are in the other part of the house.
I can get a neighbors internet signal back there, but I can't see my own network back there.
Will I be able to access my iTunes on the desktop computers if I can only use my neighbor's signal and not mine?
I'm having trouble figuring out how my Apple TV is going to work. Plus my new iPad (another Xmas gift) will need a wifi signal back there too.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.
    thanks,
    ANNE Z

Now I get a message on my airport express that my 2 networks can't be extended.
    what am I doing wrong?

  • Airport Express Apple TV and free wifi set up

I have a vacation rental in a condominium and would like to set up Apple TV. I don't want to incur the cost of internet access. My husband has been able to pickup free wi-fi signal/s from the area for his laptop but the strength varies.
I was wondering if I can use airport express to pick up and offer a stronger signal. Then use the Apple TV with it. Would I need a Mac/PC to set it up? My husband has a pc laptop and I have a Mac desktop which I can't transport. Can I use my ipod touch?

So is the wifi actually there as a free wifi or are you just using someone else's who hasn't secured it. There may be problems with each. Free wifi often comes with restrictions, movie downloads my well be far too slow to be useful, you could try renting a movie on the laptop to test this.
If you are just using someone else's that hasn't secured it, you could of course find that they do secure it should they discover often and frequent usage.

  • Airport Express & Apple TV?

can you use airport express for apple tv?

If your question is "will Apple TV connect wirelessly to an Airport Express?" - the answer is yes.  I use an Airport Express to connect to my Internet broadband DSL line and I have an Apple TV that has Netflix service streaming movies to my TV.

  • Apple tv and airport express, apple tv and airport express

Simple questions from novice: If I have Apple TV, would there be a need to also have Airport Express? What is the main difference?

An Apple TV will work on any WiFi network so an AirPort Express is not required.
For the most part an ATV and an AirPort are 2 completely different devices. An Apple TV is intended to be connected to a TV and a home theater receiver for streaming audio and video. Even for audio the artwork will be displayed on the TV screen as well as all the menus.
An AirPort Express is a wireless network adapter for setting up a or extending a WiFi network. As a bonus it has an audio out jack which is used with AirPlay which is built into iTunes and iOS devices for an external speaker. It can also be used to create a wireless printer using it's USB port.

  • Airport Express & Apple TV in Large house with lots of concrete!

    Hi there
I have set up an AX & Apple TV network in a large house (not my own mind you) as follows:
1x AX(n) upstairs acting as base station
1x AX(n) downstairs at a Hi Fi audio system (using with Airtunes)
1x AppleTV upstairs in TV Room
1x PC with windoze Vista with Netgear RangeMax NEXT Wireless-N USB-WN111-100ISS
    The problem/scenario is this:
    1. The house walls are all concrete and has a lot of angles, so the range is very limited due to no line of site connections.
    2. Although all devices see each other, it is really at the edge of the range and sometimes when using an iphone as a remote for instance downstairs at the HiFi, one loses the connection to the network.
    3. Furthermore the network needs to be expanded to include an AX in the main bedroom that is also upstairs but at the opposite end of the house.
    4. The people of the house wants to use their iphones as remotes with Airtunes & Apple TV.
    The questions:
1.)Will the range of the network be much larger/stronger if I replace the AX I am currently using as router/base station with an AEBS?
2.)Also, If i want to extend the network to the patio (downstairs outside about 80ft), can I set the AX that is plugged in to the HiFi (for Airtunes) to also extend the network or will this take away the Airtunes functionality?
3.) Will the use of iphones on this network not "downgrade" the network from N to G?
Thanks a lot for the help!

    Thanks a lot John
    John Galt wrote:
You described what I have in mind, though for bandwidth purposes I envisioned dedicating the "n" network to your wireless computers, Airtunes, and AppleTV, and the "g" network strictly for the iPhone. This assumes both your Expresses are the newer ones capable of 802.11n.
I might also add that this setup will be strictly used for Airtunes and AppleTV. The only computer connected to it will be the PC that the music gets streamed from. So therefore I there is no "real" need for N capabilities on the AEX's as it will only be iphones and airtunes running on it. Also the house is on a farm so the closest interference apart from microwaves and cordless phones are probably 10km away
I will first try this setup with a:
1.N network between the AppleTV and AEBS
2.G network between AEBS and AEX for Airtunes and Iphone remote.
I see where you are coming from with the N network for the AEX & Airtunes, but this will mean I will have to buy not only a new dualband AEBS and new AEX (which I have to buy anyway to extend the network) but also buy an additional 2 or 3 AEX's, which will make it a pretty pricey picnic.
So I will first try my luck with a G network for Airtunes.
Now I just have to sit and wait patiently for the incompetent agents in South Africa to get the new dualband AEBS in... (yes we dont have an "official" Apple presence in SA and yes the "official agents" are useless and yes it will probably take another 8 weeks for it to arrive in SA with the new iMacs, mini's and pro's and yes the agents' service and support will be nonexistent to mediocre.... IF we are lucky..)
Nevertheless, with that rant out of the way, thanks again for the help!

  • Airport Express support of wireless scanning

I know that Airport Express does not support the scanning function of an all in one printer when the printer is connected to the Airport via USB. But, can anyone tell me if the scanning function is supported when the printer is connected wirelessly? If not supported, is there a reason or is Apple going to do something about it?

    Welcome to the discussions!
The scanning function (and other functions like copy, fax, maintenance, etc) are supported on most all-in-one machines if the device is connecting to the network using wireless only. If your device has the option to connect using ethernet, all functions are usually supported with this type of connection as well.
As far as answering your question about whether Apple is going to do anything about it, we can't answer a question like that on this forum because we're all users here...just like you. And Apple does not respond on this forum.
If you think about it though, and realize that Apple can only use the drivers that are being furnished to them from other manufacturers, it is the all-in-one manufacturers that will determine when and if other functions like scan, maintenance, etc will be available at the USB ports on the AirPorts.
So far, it appears that none have chosen to offer this option. You might want to contact the manufacturer of your all-in-one in regard to their plans to offer this type of functionality in the future at the USB port on the AirPorts.

  • Airport express not supported in airport utility 6!

all of a sudden my airport express is not supported by APU 6. tried to install the old one, 5.6, but Lion 10.7.4 will not allow it.
so now what? I have to buy a new airport?

HPNY, unfortunately, if you click on the link shown within:
"This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at...."
it will take you to 5.6.1 - I fell for that one. That download does not work in Lion. You need to click on the link in bobwild's 06/12/2012 4.23pm post which takes you to 5.6 which is the Lion compatible software. Everything works for me now (thanks bobwild) but for an hour I had believed two previously workable 'old' Airport Expresses had suddenly become expensive and redundant legacy hardware.
I can understand Apple's introduction of parallel software but not their apparent failure to explain what's happening. This is actually triplicate software, not just parallel.  Thank goodness for the contributors on these forums doing Apple's work for them.

  • HT201335 Can i use airplay with the apple tv and airport express without an internet connection? Basically Set it up as a closed network?

I was told I could set a local network with the airport express, apple Tv, and my iPad to stream videos or pictures to a TV for a presentation.
No internet connection is available at the location.
Is that possible? Or do I need to access itunes homeshare with an internet connection to make this work?
I've set it up at home where I have an internet connection and it works fine but I want to move the setup to my church for a class. The data I'm using is stored on my ipad.
I know I can do this wired with the HDMI adapter but would like to do it wireless.
    Thanks for any help!

Ok so we now have a solution to the problem.   A friend of mine came round to work this out with me last night and we were able to get it working, but it is not as easy as I had hoped.  Fisrtly we plugged the airport express into my router using the ethernet cable  (for this I am using an Airport Express Base Station") and in airport utilities selected the airport express.  In edit, we then gave the airport express a new range of IP address which did not conflict with any of the other applications that I have already assigned.  We also named the Airport Express with a distinguishable name.  We then waited for the changes to be registered then unplugged the Airport Express from the router.  I then plugged my AppleTV via HDMI into a tv to test it and selected the new wifi network with the new Airport Express distinguishable name.  I was able to watch a video that I have on my ipad directly on my tv without being connected to the internet, and was able to play Airplay presentations.
No the easiest solution, and certainly not something that anyone at Apple has talked me through in my lengthy conversations with them at Applecare.
    Hope this helps.

  • Our house is a two-story home would the airport express be able to support wi-fi throught the house?

Our house is a two-story home. Would the airport express be to support that much space?

    Hi Daniel,
Bob Timmons reply to you is absolutely correct.
That being said, I'm going describe my setup, which works very well for me.
I have a two story split level frame house, about 2,000 square feet.  The airport express is located on the second floor -- I get full coverage all over the house, and even into my smallish backyard.  We do have a blu ray player down stairs, located about 20 feet away. We stream Netflix video most evenings, with very good results.
Wifi signal propagation is a vague science, which does make predicting individual results very "ify,"  as Bob mentioned.
