Airport Express Assistant

im trying to instal a another Airport. All goes well but then the assistant comes with error -4 something. I've tried to install the program again, but always the same, can anybody please help me,
thanks.

Hi,
I'm a reluctant Windows user as my Mac has just gone belly up. Can I ask where you got your copy of Aiport Express Assistant from? I have three airport express units I wish to set-up but can't find the assistant software anywhere. I've tried all the disks that cam with the units but none of them install the assistant, only an 'admin utility'. Any ideas?

  • Where is the Airport Express Assistant?

I have successfully installed a first airport express as base. Now i want to add 3 more extensions ... but i cant find the assistant that allows me to the extension. I have looked in Applic/Utilities, but its not there. I think i am update in basic software -- 10.4.3 and Tunes 6.01.3.
I have tried to reinstall the Express CD ...but the system sys refuses ... saying that I already have the software.
I have looked in the support section of Apple to get a download and it does not exist alone ...only in the full airport software...that my machine refuses.
    Help please!
    Many thanks in advance!

The Airport Express Assistant is an obsolete application referred to in some of the older product documentation for the Airport Express. You should use the Airport Setup Assistant, which is found in the /Applications/Utilities folder of your Mac - unless you trashed it by mistake!

  • Can't install AirPort Express Assistant because I already have Utilities

Just having some annoying trouble here.
I have a MacBook Pro that came installed with AirPort Utilities, and it has the latest version.
I bought an AirPort Express so I could stream music to my speakers with AirTunes. I'm not hooking an ethernet cable to the airport, because my wireless already works fine in my house.
I need to install AirPort Express Assistant in order to set up the network between the express and my computer, but I can't even use the CD it came with because once I get to the part to select where I want to save it, it says "this computer already has a more recent version of AirPort on it etc..." However, I only have Utilities, not the assistant.
With the Express plugged in, I go to Utilities and it doesn't pick anything up, which makes sense. So basically, what can I do?
I tried deleting Utilities off my computer so I could just install the whole CD but even that did nothing.
    Thanks.

Your version of Snow Leopard already had the latest version of AirPort Utility 5.5.1, which is the version that you should use to configure the AirPort Express.
The disk which came with the AirPort Express was produced some time ago and the version of AirPort Utility on the disk is out of date.
Not sure what you mean by Assistant. There is a guided setup process in AirPort Utility that is initiated when you click the Continue button. That may be what you are thinking of.
You made a mistake by deleting AirPort Utility 5.5.1 from your computer. You should download AirPort Utility 5.5.1 and install it so that you can configure your AirPort Express.

  • Airport Express Assistant Sofware Download??

I have a new macbook pro with tiger and bought an airport express because I want to stream music to my speakers. I cannot get my computer to recognize the airport express. Do I need to download the assistant? If so, where can I download this?
    Thanks

Hello Brandon Tussy. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I have a new macbook pro with tiger and bought an airport express because I want to stream music to my speakers. I cannot get my computer to recognize the airport express. Do I need to download the assistant? If so, where can I download this?
The necessary AirPort utilities should already be installed on your new MacBook Pro. Did you check the /Applications/Utilities folder? If they're not there, you can install them from the CD that came with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX). (Note: Your new MacBook Pro should have the latest version of the AirPort Utility, version 5.x. I suggest you verify it's existence before trying the install from the CD...as this would attempt to install the earlier, version 4.x. The subtle difference between the two is that version 5.x is called the AirPort Utility; whereas the 4.x version is called the AirPort Admin Utility. The newer version incorporates all the capabilities of version 4.x plus it replaces the AirPort Setup Assistant.)

  • Re-installing Airport Express Assistant.

    Hi all,
I've got an Airport wireless network with one Airport Express used to extend the range. Everything is working fine. However, due to a repair to my PowerBook my hard drive was wiped and I reinstalled the Airport Admin utility instead of the Express Assistant.
I've now got another Express and want to set it up in the extension so I can stream music to my Hi-Fi. So I thought I'd install the Express Assistant from the CD again (the CD is called Airport Express / iTunes CD version 4).
The trouble is the installer won't let me reinstall again as I've used software update to upgrade the Airport componants and they are of a later version than those on the CD. But I want the Express Assistant!!!
I've removed all the Airport related icons but the install still thinks it's there. What other files must I remove to get the thing to install?
    Cheers
    Stuart

You cannot have "reinstalled the Airport Admin utility instead of the Express Assistant" - both get installed at the same time. You must have inadvertently deleted the application.

  • Can't get Airport Express to work with Windows

I got a used Airport Express to use as a wireless print server. I got only the Airport Express; no manuals or CD's or anything. I have been reading through the manuals and everything online, but I can't get anything to work. It seems like I need to get the Airport Express Assistant, but I can't find it. I got the Airport Admin Utility, and that installed fine on Windows Vista. Then I installed what I thought was the Express Assistant, and it just seemed to change the Airport software in the start menu, but I still don't have the Assistant, only the Admin Utility. Anyway, I open the Admin Utility and it opens the Base Station Chooser. There is nothing there, so I rescan, and it seems to do nothing. It doesn't find anything anyway.
Where do I go from here? I am kind of stuck. I am trying this on a Windows Vista PC which is hardwired to a Linksys WRTSL54GS router. I have the airport express plugged in and the light is flashing Amber. I have a HP psc2410 plugged into the airport express that I would like to print wirelessly to.
    Thanks for any help.

You don't necessarily need the AirPort Setup
Assistant, you should be able to set up the AirPort
Express Base Station (AX) with the AirPort Admin
Utility...as it is a much more powerful tool. You
need to make sure that you are using the version for Windows. At this
time, the AirPort software is only supported for
Windows 2000 or XP. A Vista-version has not been
    released.
    I suggest the following...
    - First, perform a "factory default" reset on the AX to get
it back to it's original "out-of-the-box" state.
    - Next, temporarily connect your computer directly,
using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port on the
AX during the set up phase.
    - Then set up the AX as a "wireless client."
I have this same problem. I have a Vista Windows notebook and I am trying to get airport working to play music wirelessly through my home stereo. The "base station chooser" software does nothing on my Vista notebook.
I used a friend's MacBook and was able to set up the airport as a client so I can see it listed in my Dlink router DHCP Client Table. The airport express box is plugged in, has a steady green light and everything looks good except there is no option to choose "computer" or "home stereo" speakers in my iTunes. i installed the airport express CD including the itunes it came with.
Any ideas how to get this working on vista? Previously i had the newer version of iTunes 7.1 installed and the airport express CD told me it couldn't complete the install because a newer version of iTunes was installed. I uninstalled the iTunes and reinstalled the CD including the iTunes version 4.

  • LapTop can't find Airport Express to play iTunes.

I’ve been using Airport Express 4.1.01 (installed Nov ’04)for the sole purpose of wirelessly playing iTunes thru stereo system which is in a different part of the house from my Dynalink Modem-Router. The Toshiba L/T I had been using was clogged and painfully slow to use so was cleaned up by using the recovery disk and it is now used by another family member but is not using AE.
I‘ve bought a new Toshiba L/T with XP Prof OS. Both L/Ts have wireless connection to the internet using a Dynalink Router/Modem (R/M)and share a printer – not via AE.
My system is similar to that on page 18 except L/Tops are connected wirelessly to R/M and the stero and AE in a different room from the R/M. I don’t expect to listen to stereo and browse net at same time.
When I attempted to install AE I got an error message “A later version of iTunes is already installed on this machine. Installation cannot continue”. Current iTunes is V7. However, when I clicked OK on the error message the AE Introduction Window with the 3 icons (Internet, Music and Printer) appeared and over the top of the AE window another error message. “An error occurred while trying to use the wireless internet system” and the Next button on the AE window was dimmed. Once I clicked OK on error window the Next button cleared and clicking it I chose the “Set up a new AE” option and next the “Create a new wireless net work network” option.
Despite the error messages both Airport Admin Utility and Airport Express Assistance are installed and scanning and rescanning give negative results. The Admin Utility opens the Base Station Chooser window with the left panel blank and the Base Station Information panel also blank. The Configure button disabled. I’ve done both sorts of resets and still nothing even though I’m doing this in the same room barely 2 metres from the AE and in the same position where everything had worker OK on my previous L/T.
I’ve even tried connecting my L/T to AE with an Ethernet cable and opened the AE Admin Utility. Still nothing and NO Tabs for either AirPort or Music Settings. Instead there are 3 Menu items – File, Base Station and Help as well as two buttons – Other and Rescan. I don’t have the information for the information asked by pressing Other.
When I attempted to update AE after downloading Airport V5.0.14 I was got the message “This update requires Airport V 5.0 to be installed. I can’t find V 5.0 to download if that is in fact the answer to my problems.
PLEASE! I desperately need help. Can’t remember this hassle when I set it up 2.5 yrs ago.

This seems to be a common problem on several threads lately. Everything is configured correctly.
The airport status is green. But iTunes does not show the speaker choice button.
It was working fine, but at some recent point it stopped and I can't get it back.
I have the same issue with two different Airport Express units.

  • Can't get Airport Express to connect to my network

I have a netgear wireless router, and the when I plug in the aiport express, it just blinks yellow. When I run the Airport express assistant, it gives me a warning that windows is not managing my wireless network. This is very frustrating!! What can I do?

I'm sorry you are having problems. When I cabled directly to the Express from my computer and ran the assistant it worked perfectly. After disconnecting the calbe, it connected wirelessly to my existing network. I am running an Aiport Extreme for my base station, I don't know if that makes a difference. When you run the assistant do you select "Join existing network"? There is a great post on here somewhere with other instructions on setting up the Express a different way. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

  • Airport Express and Windows 2000

Curious why the Airport Express documentation says that it will work with (a machine running) Windows 2000, but the software stops installing when it detects Windows 2000.
Also, given this, wondering if there is a workaround.
    Thanks.

The AirPort Express Assistant is not compatible with Windows 2000.
To setup AirPort Express from a Windows 2000 computer, you must use AirPort Admin Utility for Windows version 4.0 or later.

  • Airport express not found after setup

I have a maddening situation. At the beginning of setting up my airport extreme, the computer has no problem finding the wireless device. However, after the A/E is configured and added to my current network (linksys router), the computer can't find the A/E anymore.
    What's going on?

The following are Apple's instructions for setup using the Airport Setup Assistant, which is different from Airport Utility, but most of the steps are the same. Some are important for your installation, such as "do NOT select extend the range of my Airport..." and entering your network password correctly. Some steps, like plugging in the Airport, you probably already figured out
Since your router is a Linksys product, after the Express is set up you will no longer be able to see it using Airport Utility. The reason is that you set up the Express using its wireless network (Apple Network xxxxxx), which is subsequently disabled after setup. Once you're done and you click Update you'll be using your Linksys wireless network. Airport Utility only recognizes Airport networks. You didn't create one with your Express nor do you want to given your desired setup. If you need to use Airport Utility to configure the Express again you'll need to perform a hard reset.
If everything's right and you have checked iTunes Preferences > Devices "look for remote speakers connected with Airtunes" option you should see a new menu appear in the lower right of the iTunes window.
If this doesn't work, try disabling your router's encryption temporarily to simplify things. Reset the Express and run Airport Utility without a password this time. You may also need to modify your Sharing > Firewall settings too.
    Hope it helps!
Plug AirPort Express into a power outlet.
On your computer, join the wireless network created by AirPort Express.
Open AirPort Setup Assistant. Mac users: Find it in /Applications/Utilities/. Windows users: On the Start menu, point to All Programs and click AirPort.
When you see the Introduction screen, click Continue.
Select "Set up a new AirPort Base Station" and click Next.
When the AirPort Setup Assistant confirms that it has found your AirPort Express, click Continue. (If >your AirPort Express wasn't found, click Try Again.)
Select "Connect to my current wireless network."
Be sure that "Extend the range of my AirPort wireless network" is not selected (this option is used >only for WDS).
Click Next; AirPort Express Assistant will scan for your existing wireless network. Once it finds it, click Next again.
Choose the correct network (there may only be one) from the Wireless Network Name menu. If the wireless network is password protected, you will be prompted to enter the password. Enter the password and then click Next to continue.
Note: If you have difficulty with your password, you can get help with joining a third-party WEP-protected network.
Enter the name of your AirPort Express.
Tip: If you don't know the name, it's what appears in iTunes as the name of your AirTunes remote speakers.
    Click Next.
Assign an administrator password for AirPort Express. This password can be different from any network password, and is used for just changing settings on AirPort Express.
The Summary screen outlines the configuration options you've set. Optionally, you can click Show Passwords to review the administrator and network passwords. Finally, click Next to update AirPort Express with your settings.

  • Airport Express trouble

    Hi:
I couldn't connect to the internet this morning, though I had an airport signal. This has happened before so took my usual approach. I turned off the airport and then the cable modem, turned them back on in reverse order, and restarted both computers (iBook and iMac, both connected via airport). I did that a half dozen times. Nothing. I connected the iBook directly to the modem. Got a connection, so that is not the problem.
According to my handbook, I took a paper clip and pushed in the reset buttton on the Airport Express. However, it does not say what to do next, and I still don't have a connection, though my computers, again, show they are getting a signal.
    Help!
    Amy Sutherland

    Welcome Amy
A quick copy paste from the support site, below. You performed a factory reset and now you need to reconfigure your express using the Airport Setup Assistant.
    Setup Guide: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/AirPortExpressSetupGuide.pdf
    Reset Article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044
How to perform a factory default reset
Important: This erases all settings and saved profiles. The settings erased include Access Control and RADIUS settings.
    Follow these steps:
Unplug the AirPort Express from the power outlet.
Press and hold the reset button.
Plug AirPort Express back into an AC outlet (still holding the button).
Continue holding the button until you see the light flash green four times, which should happen after a few seconds.
    Release the button.
As with a hard reset, the AirPort Express will not be visible in the AirPort menu item or AirPort Admin Utility for a short time. Remember that this whole process takes approximately 45 seconds to complete. You may then use the AirPort Express in its default state or reconfigure it using either the AirPort Express Assistant or AirPort Admin Utility. See the above hard reset section for information on the default settings.

  • Adding a 2nd Airport Express to extend the network using WDS

I am a bit of a novice, but after I installed an airport express with my d-link wireless router to play itunes on my home stero, the music kept breaking up and stopping. I tried to change the channel, but it said mine was set on automatic and I cannot figure out how to change manually.
So reading apple's suggestions, they said to get another aiport express and extend the network with WDS. I purchased my 2nd express today and have been trying to install it using the airport express assistant. I have had to reset the 2nd express and the original several times. However, what i keep running into is after it gets through all the steps, it asks me for a password for "this basestation". I have read several help topics and it looks like i need to use "public" for this new airport express. I get through that step and then it gives me an unknown error (-6753). Does anyone know what this is? Or is there a way to set-up the 2nd airport express manually? Do I even need a 2nd one? Should I just get an airport extreme? Will that extend the range of my wireless network? Any help is greatly appreciated. I have been at this for about 6 hours now. My wife is going to kill me.

Will the manual for D-Link describe how to set up the
first airport express as a roaming network
    No
do that via the apple settings once its connected via
    ethernet cable?
    Yes
    Different channel.
    Same network name, same security.
Ensure that distribute IP addresses (under Network) is unchecked.
When this is done, will I still be able to play
itunes through the first airport express?
    Yes
Also, then once I do that with the first, then do I
just do the regular set-up for the second as a
network extender via the airport express assistant?
    Yes

  • ITunes 7 - Airport Express not visible, won't connect to remote speakers

I upgraded to iTunes 7, and now my Aiport Express does not show up when I open either the Aiport Admin Utility, or the Airport Express Assistant. The remote speakers I have do not show up in iTunes. Evenything worked perfectly on the previous version of iTunes. Anyone have any idea?
My wireless LAN (which is enabled through the Airport Express) is still working fine.
    Thanks!

    hmmmmm.
i'm not trying to get rid of you here, but it might be worth also checking-in/reposting over at the Airport for Windows forum. when Airtunes things get sticky, i generally defer to iFelix or RJ in WI, and they spend a lot more time over there than they do here.

  • Cannot Reestablish wireless connection to Airport Express

I recently changed CPU's(PC) and tried reconnecting my AEX thru my Linksys WRT54G wireless router.
I cannot get it to work.
I have reset the AEX and go thru both the Admin utility & Airport Express assistant and can get as far as reconfiguring to connect thru my wireless network. But everytime I set the WEP # it never connects.
    I have read the other strings and tried;
    1.Configuring using an ethernet(hard) connection.
2.In Express Assistant I can get as far as it identifying a wireless network where "name is not available" but the next steps all indicate "Cannot Read from Base Station. Bad Param Error(-4).
    I'm confused.
    Any suggestions?

    Duane,
I think you are a genius. That fixed it.
I had updated the firmware on the AEX but did not update the admin utilities(make sure you have v. 4.2 installer software for all having the same issues). The newer version firmware and older version software utilities created the conflict.
As I plodded forward I also discovered my Linksys WRT54G router was also blocking the IP address of the AEX. I reset my router, re-established new security settings and all is good in my Airtunes world now.
    Thank You Duane!!

  • Need install CD for Airport Express

    Hi, There
I lost my install CD and desperately need to get a copy for installing the Airport Express Assistant.
I already have the Airport Admin utility but it is not enough to create the connection with my network for the first time.
I would appreciate if one can point me to a location where I can download it.
    Thanks in advance,
    wbokar.

Thanks for your help but that is exactly the issue I was raising in my post. The download only provides the airport admin utility and is missing the airport express assistant which is usually bundled with it in the original install CD. That is the reason why I was asking for a place to download the "Airport Express Assistant" and not the "Airport Admin Utility".
    Thanks again for your help,
