Airport Express becomes unstable after running Azureus for a while

I have bought a new Airport Express yesterday, and it worked great. But then I let Azureus run overnight, and this morning I wanted to surf the web, but some pages took forever to load. I thought it was Azureus taking all the bandwidth, so I quit it, but the problems persisted:
The problem is that in Safari/Firefox/whatever, 1 out of 4 or perhaps 1 out of 6 pages I open just take forever to load, even when these are pages from the same server. So it's definitely not a problem with my internet connection (which is 2Mbps over cable, BTW). Stopping the loading of the page and hitting the reload button then opens the page just fine.
It seems that the Airport Express has some kind of minor crash, so that it won't lock up completely but will not load a page once in a while (and this while is sometimes 5 seconds and not just every 10 minutes).
The other Mac in my house gets these problems too, so the problem lies not with my Mac, but with the Airport Express.
Restarting the Airport Express resolves this problem, and all the pages will load just fine. I reproduced this behaviour about 4 times today, just a short while of running Azureus "crashes" the Airport Express again.
What's the problem here and how do I resolve it?
Thanks,
Oliver
PS: excuse me for my not-perfect english

hi there!
i had the same problem. the thing is that i used a repeater in my house in order to catch the original signal in other parts of the house.
it now seems that the repeater was the reason for the drop outs.
in the meantime i use the power outlets to distribute the signal (e.g. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetreviews/d-link-turns-every-power-outlet-into-wal l-to-wall-network/3287) and i connect the airport straight to the power outlet with an ethernet cable.
since i use this method i do not have any drop outs anymore.
hope this helps.
cheers.

  • VISA Write hangs after running OK for a while

VISA Write function (VISA abc W) in my VI runs OK, with a Return Count of 4, for a while (100's to 1000's of times)  then it hangs.  The Return Count from this function is then 0.  The Error In and Error Out show no errors.  Clicking HIGHLIGHT EXECUTION shows the output wires from the VISA Write as colored grey, while everything else has normal color.
Clicking the VI red ABORT button, or any of the sub VIs red ABORT buttons, fails to abort or reset the VI even after 20 minutes.  Task Manager will stop LabVIEW, but then LabVIEW will not start up again without shutting down and restarting the computer.  Changing to a different Windows XP computer and a different PCI-GPIB, NI-488.2  board, as well as reinstalling LabVIEW 7.0, or using a different LabVIEW 7.0 serial number, has not solved the problem.
    Thank you for your help.

Thanks for your reply.  Attached is a PowerPoint file that shows info on our computer and LabView, and a For Loop
(Slide 3) that runs the VIs addressing one of our instruments (Hart 1590 Super Thermometer).  Slide 4 shows the
block diagram that is pretty much as downloaded from National Instruments.  The block diagrams for each of the
colored sub VIs contains a sub VI having a VISA abc W function as shown in Slide 5.  The only places this VISA
function hangs is in inside the While Loop, inside the yellow Meas. Status. VI or the blue Read Meas. VI.  The
Meas. Status. VI sends "new", and  the Read Meas. VI sends "tem" to the Hart instrument.
Also attaced are the VIs for the Measurement Status and the Read Measurement.  In the course of trying to fix this
problem I've added various time delays of 50, 100 msec, up to 1 sec, thinking that the Hart needed more time to
respond before receiving another command; none of this improved the situation.  I added indicators and arrays to
capture the last several strings that were input to the VISA function, but I saw nothing unusual.  All I've been
able to determine is that the VISA abc W function hangs as described in my posted message.

You would need to make another application to monitor the
    status of the
main one. Xtras like BuddyAPI will help there. It is easy to
    check if
an app is open, and if not, open it.
Or you could have the main app write out a file every 5
    minutes or so.
Have your monitoring application check the file date on that
    file. If
it is >10 old, then that means that the main app is locked
    up or
crashed. The monitor app can close it then re=open it.

  • Airport Express not working after power blip

    Hello,
I have been  here before and gotten a lot of great advice from participants here, but I forgot my user name so I'm starting fresh. Anyway, I have a feeling I'm in for some bad news but I thought I would post just in case...
I have an Airport Express plugged directly into the wall behind my iMac in my house, and it has worked great for about 20 months. The computer where I installed and maintained the Airport Express is an iMac running OSX 10.7.5, if that matters.
Two nights ago our power went out for approximately 5 seconds.
I immediately discovered our WiFi was out. I checked the AirPort Express and it was flashing very fast yellow.
I first restarted the cable modem and verified that it was still working. The ethernet cord worked. I got out the manual and tried following all the instructions for resetting the Airport. The Airport device never showed up in the airport utility. At one point after using the reset button on the Airport, the light mysteriously changed to solid green and I thought I had a chance, but the device still didn't show up in the utility and after I unplugged the device again it just started the fast yellow light flashing again.
I have gone through other recent threads on this topic and I keep thinking I'm missing something. In the whole life of this device it's only gone down once before and it was a long confusing frustrating struggle to get it to work again, but I did. At that time the device was doing the same thing (flashing yellow) and wasn't showing up in the Airport Utility but somehow I got it working again. So I'm hoping maybe, just maybe, there's a procedure I haven't tried.
I understand people say you should protect your equipment with surge protectors and we actually do have everything else plugged into one. But the manual of the Airport Express makes such a big deal about obstructions and cords and other electronic equipment and shows a picture of the device plugged directly into the wall, so that's what I did. If it got fried in that power blip and I have to buy a new one, should I just plug it into the surge protector anyway?
If it's dead for good, I'm annoyed that I got less than 2 years of use out of it. I read in a thread here that they die on a lot of people because they run really hot and 2 years is average life. Seriously?
If I take it to the "genius" bar, will they be able to determine if it's dead or not before I buy a new one? Should I buy something else more reliable...ie, non-Apple possibly? If I had known this device had reliability problems, I would have shopped around more, but I always buy Apple.
Thank you for reading this and any reccommendations would be appreciated.
    sincerely,
    susan

A rapidly flashing LED is unusual, and strongly indicates a problem that can't be fixed.
I read in a thread here that they die on a lot of people because they run really hot and 2 years is average life. Seriously?
I doubt it; I have never had any of them fail and the oldest is about six years old. I don't pay any particular attention to cooling requirements. There were a rash of power-supply related failures due to defective components a long time ago, but it has been many years now. It affected many manufacturers of electronic equipment, not just Apple.
will they be able to determine if it's dead or not before I buy a new one?
Yes, absolutely. They will "hard reset" it, which you can do yourself before you go. See below. That is the extent of Apple's AirPort Express troubleshooting ability.
The damage it sustained may not have been related to power anomalies at all. In fact, if the power supply was damaged you probably wouldn't get any LED activity at all. I suspect the damage may have involved to your cable company's equipment. Improper lightning protection or surge suppression is very common, and can affect everything connected to your cable company's equipment. You should consider contacting them to determine if their equipment is properly installed. They're going to say their liability is limited to their equipment, and anything beyond their cable modem is your problem, so make sure they did their work properly.
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then press and hold its tiny reset button and keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.

Yesterday I had another problem. I was sending a request to be transported to Production Client, and the request was not getting transported. But when I changed just the name of the program, It was transported to Production Client.
I can't understand where the problem lies and what happens to the programs after running successfully for few days. All I have to do is just copy that programm into another name and it starts running.
    Can anyone help me?
    Regards,

  • Can i use an airport express as both a bridge and for airtunes?

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station (5th gen) and an Airport Express. The Airport Express is currently set up only for Airtunes. I would like to use it to extend my existing wifi signal to the backyard. Do I have to use the Airport Express EITHER for Airtunes OR as a bridge, or can I do both simultaneously?

The AirPort Express can be configured for the following uses simultaneously:  extend a wireless network, AirTunes, and printing. Here I am assuming that you will be using a wireless connection between the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express.
Hopefully, your AirPort Express is the newer "n" wireless version, because this will provide the best network performance, and it is also easy to configure as well.
As to whether you will have adequate signal strength in the back yard, that is difficult to predict in advance. A lot will depend on the distance that the Express is located from the AirPort Extreme, how many walls and obstructions are in the signal path, and how much of the backyard area that you intend to cover.

Yes. There may be regional differences in the number of available wireless channels but it should work. Its power supply is universal.

I have been unsuccessfully trying to extend the wifi of my Time 2T Capsule with an Airport Extreme 2nd Gen. It works for a while and then loses configuration. I have done everything possible, disconnected it, reset it but it keeps failing, what to do?

What model and firmware is the 2TB TC?
    What firmware is the AE?
Does the AE get good signal from the TC in its current location?
Signal can only be extended that is received intact.
Is it extending on 5ghz? As I remember it a Gen2 AE is only single band, although you can choose either 2.4ghz or 5ghz.
I am fairly sure you are going to tell me your TC is AC model..
I would do a couple of things..
    1. Fix the wireless name, make it short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    2. Fix the wireless channel for 2.4ghz so it is not going to jump around.
    3. Get real results from the AE in its current location for signal strength.. this is really only possible on v5 utility. And that is a double pain with Mavericks because you cannot use it.
Apple have removed all the useful diagnostics from the airport utility. There is next to nothing left. So you need to use the computer and its diagnostics to find signal levels in the location.

  • What version of airport utility should I use for my airport express if I'm running Mountain Lion?, What version of airport utility should I use for my airport express if I'm running Mountain Lion?

I can't configure my airport express because I get a message stating I need to run an older version of airport utility to support itk but when I try and install the older version, I get a message stating it can't be installed because it isn't supported.  Help!

Unfortunately, Apple did not include support for older AirPort devices in the recent "upgrade" to Mountain Lion. A few conversations with Apple Support indicate that Apple has no plans to change this going forward.
If you have another Mac there running Lion or Snow Leopard...or even a PC...you can use that device to administer the older AirPort Express.
If that is not possilble....and you have been using Time Machine for backups of your Mac....you can try to go back in time to locate the earlier version of AirPort Utility and restore it to the desktop. Then, simply move the AirPort Utility application into the Utilites folder and will co-exist with AirPort Utility for Mountain Lion.
Apple does not support this type of thing of course, so you will be on your own if you want to try an "unsupported" procedure like this.
