Airport Express can't see printer

I have a Brother HL-2040 laser connected to a brand new Airport Express. The AE unit works fine in all other respects but doesn't seem to see the printer. When I go to printer utility and click "add" nothing shows. When I look in the airport admin utility there is no usb printer shown. I have unplugged and replugged the various things, restarted my Macbook etc. Any suggestions? Very frustrating! Many thanks.
PS--Brother's support page specifically says this printer should work with 10.4.x via Printer Setup Utility.

Well I must apologize--I had failed to fully insert the usb cable at one end. When I corrected this the printer was immediately recognized and now works fine.

At my parants house they got a Airport express with a lexmark z55 and the Airport express can see the printer but when i try to print it says "Problem communicating with the printer" ive tryed to disable firewall but that didnt help.

but no luck ...im running WinXP

Airport Express Can't See Base Station

I have an airport extreme base station that has two computers normally connected to my network wirelessly (iMac G4 and Powerbook G4) which have worked fine for months. After completing an apple security update this evening on both computers the Powerbook G4 did not automatically connect to the network upon restart as it normally does. The iMac G4 started up fine and is how I am posting this note. The powerbook on the toolbar shows the network I want to join but when I select it (and and see the check mark next to it) I still cannot access the internet. When I run the Airport admin utility it cannot see any base stations (despite the iMac sitting 1 foot away and working perfectly). When I manually give it the IP address and password it says "unable to read the configuation of the selected base station." When I try the Airport Setup Assistant it also lists my network as one that I can choose but when I click on the "continue" button it says "unable to establish a network connection" and that my computer could not connect to the internet. Help!!! I have tried every angle I can thing of to get the Powerbook to connect like it did a few hours ago.

I have just discovered the same problem. After downloading the latest security update my Powerbook G4 [10.3.9] can not "see" any base station or express and/or connect to my network. The G5 running 10.4.5 works fine and sees all. Everything had been working just fine before the update then... Have tried all the work arounds I can think of and wasted a great deal of time. Any answers out there?

Airport Express can't 'see' my TimeCapsule Airport

Im trying to use an Airport Express to extend the range of my TimeCapsule Airport Extreme wireless network, however my Airport Express doesn't appear to be able to 'see' my existing wireless network when I try to configure it using Airport Utility.
FWIW, the TimeCapsule Airport network works fine and is running firmware 7.4. My Airport Express is running 6.3 firmware (I think its the latest for that model). I get a WDS error when trying to configure the Express - anyone know what that means and what the problem is.
More importantly, can these two devices play nicely together and cooperate. Maybe up/downgrades in firmware might help? Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the discussion area!
I'm afraid that you're trying to mix an older "g" device with a newer "n" device in order to provide more wireless coverage for your network. To use Apple's "extend a wireless network" feature, all devices must be "n" capable. Since you have an older "g" AirPort Express and a newer "n" Time Capsule, your only option is to use Apple's WDS arrangement.
Tesserax has provided excellent step by step instructions for the WDS type setup and we can provide you with the links to these threads, but you might want to consider the downsides to the WDS setup.
1) The entire wireless network will drop down to "g" levels
2) The bandwidth of the wireless network will be reduced by 50%
You might want to take a look at an upgrade to a newer AirPort Express "n". This would allow you to maintain "n" speeds throughout your network and there is much less of a bandwidth loss with this type of setup...about 10-15% on average.
Please post back with what you would like to do and we can furnish help for either type of configuration.

Since upgrading to OS Lion, airport express can't see any remote speakers to pair with. Why?

My iTunes no longer gives me the selection for remote speakers. I hav an airport extreme and airport express. I have solid green lights for both. Does anyone have a clue what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

ML will show the AVCHD as a pkg, so you are not able view the directories like BDMV-->Stream-->MTS. You can right click AVCHD file, then choose show package contents. you will see BDMV, then you right click BDMV to choose show package, you will see stream folder, just do it again, you will find MTS files. Next time if you want to check the MTS files you just need to do above again. right click AVCHD....
Another way, rename AVCHD to AVCHD.mts then do it same with BDMV and Stream folder, it will let you see MTS files after that. Those mts files will keep showing on your mac next time.

Airport Express can't see Linksys router

Hi, I'm getting nowhere trying to get my Airport Express to find my Linksys E2000 router and I hope someone here can help.
The E2000 is connected to the internet and both laptops in the house, an iphone and an Android phone can all use it successfully. I have a 1 month old Airport Express which I'd like to use to stream music. Until today I've been using the Express as the wireless router without problems so I know it can be used in that capacity. In the Airport Utility, the Express is found but after setting the Wireless Mode to 'Join a wireless network', the droplist of visible networks does not include the E2000's secured network. Curiously, the unsecured guest network created by the E2000 can be seen. The network which can't be seen is secured with WPA2-PSK. I've tried disabling the firewall on the E2000 but this had no effect.
Has anyone else come across anything similar with the Linksys routers or similar? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It won't come up up in Airport Admin Utility. To configure the router launch a browser. Typically Linksys routers use 192.168.1.1 as the admin address for their routers. Once there, use admin as the password to gain access. If it won't let you in you will need to reset the router to factory default settings. Check the Linksys web site for the router manual.

ITunes 11 Airplay works for one Airport express, can't see the other

I have two Airport Express units in my house - both working, both with speakers hooked up to them. My iPhone can send music to both of them, but iTunes 11 only shows one of them. Any ideas?

My airport express can't see my wireless network

I am bringing up a new AE in my wireless network. I have set all the internet and wireless configurations. I am trying to add it as a client, initially connected to my router via ethernet. After tweaking several settings I am now down to what seems like a critical problem: Airport Utility tells me that my AE cannot see the wireless network. This is a bit amusing since I unplugged the ethernet and am communicating with it solely via wireless.
My config: static IP addr reserved in my router, WPA2 encryption, ethernet clients allowed, using my router as the default DNS server. Running the latest firmware and Airport utility according to Apple Software Update this afternoon. Router is an SMC Barricade N with latest firmware.
Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the ideas, but alas those are not the cause.
I am broadcasting SSID and I am running mixed b/g/n mode. FYI Airport Utility finds my network OK, as do the many other pieces of networking equipment in my house (4 computers, a NAS, an SMC wireless client, etc etc etc.) Even my son's Touch, after going through very similar games with Apple, solved by an OS upgrade a couple months later...but I digress.
Spent an hour with the Apple expert on the phone verifying everything was right on the AX and then took it to my local apple store where they were able to connect it to their G router as a client - thus eliminating wrong AX config and broken HW as a cause.
Here is what I know: it has to be able to see my router because when I bring it up my router sees it and issues it an IP address. I might reserve the IP and then set it to always use that. That is one of the things we did to get the Touch working initially.

Airport Utility can't see Airport Express Device

I tried to print some documents and I received a message telling me the printer is not ready or may not exists, so I launch the Airport Utility to see what is going on and there is no Airport Express just my Time Capsule.
I already reset the airport express to factory settings and everything goes ok until the green light shows but the airport utility can't see it.
Any help will be appreciate

Connect an Ethernet cable between the wall jack and the WAN (circle of dots) port on the AirPort Express. Connect a second cable between the LAN (opposing arrows) port on the Express to your computer.
You should now be able to access the Express using the AirPort Utility to configure the Express as a WAP.

Can i use an airport express as an ethernet print server?

here's my situation: i have a belkin wireless g router connected to my cable modem and my G4 desktop connected to the belkin router. i need to access an epson 3000 printer with only an ethernet port in another room in the house. i was told my the tech guy in the local apple store that i could use an airport express to do this but for the life of me i can't make it happen using either airport setup assistant or airport admin utility. so is it possible? and if not, what would you suggest i do so i can access the printer?

Unfortunately, connecting a non-AirPrint-enabled printer to an AirPort base station's USB port will not make it AirPrint-ready.
You will need to use another solution, like Printopia, to be able to print to this printer from an iOS device.

Airport express can't connect to printer with my pc

I just bought an airport express to use one printer. It configured and workes great with my powerbook of course, but I can't get my pc to recognize the printer. The driver is recognized but it says it is off line. Could some one give me some help.

I have a wireless network setup using a linksys router and thinking about using an Airport Express as a wireless print server in another room. I currently have a Canon MP500, 2 wired PCs connected to the router and 2 wireless laptops one Windows and an iBook. Would the Airport Express connect to my existing wireless network to act as a wireless print server for my network?

Hi, does anyone know how to change the port setting on Windows XP Pro. I recently purchased an Airport extreme and the network is working great, however when I tried to set up the printer the documentation left some key peices of information out.
I had followed the step for installing a printer, but when I got to the point about specifing the adapter type, the documentation in the manual that came with the Airport skipped over that part. I guessed at the adapter and unfortunatly (and obviously after reading the instructions here http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1008.html) I chose the wrong adapter. Now I want to go back and fix it but I can't figure out how. When I tried to run the add printer wizard again and the port setting wizard it said the port (IP_10.0.1.1) was alread in use and kicked me out of the wizard.
How do I change the settings on the port to the correct settings?

Airport Utility can't "see" base stations after Leopard 10.5.4

After upgrading to Leopard 10.5.4, Airport Utility can't "see" Airport Extreme UFO version and Airport Expresses. But the Expresses are glowing green, so I assume they're working. But if they can't be "seen" when scanned by Airport Utility, they can't be added as speaker options to iTunes.
Have unplugged and re-plugged in power to Airport Extreme and Expresses.
Oddly enough, at one point the sound through my eXpresses would kick in for five seconds and then disconnect for a minute, then play for five, then disconnect for a minute.
This same thing happened when I switched to Leopard.
Any solutions?

Well what do you know...after a week, it just magically decides to work, without even using Airport Utility.
Boy are these Airports touchy....and unreliable.

Anytime you change networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking components.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.
