Airport express causes iphone and ipad to lose wifi
We have a new (3 months old) Airport Extreme in our house. It provides internet connectivity for an iMac, macbook pro, iphone 3gs, and ipad 2 (and a pc). Never had any problems.
Two days ago, I purchased an Airport Express to put downstairs, and wirelessly extend the wifi network. Setup seemed to go smoothly, and all devices reported a stronger signal downstairs. However, the iphone and ipad started behaving really strangely after an hour or so. They kepy saying they couldn't connect to the network, and even when I selected the network, they kepy saying the password was incorrect (even though I typed it in 10 times). I reset the network settings on the iphone, as well as powered it off and rebooted it to no avail. The only way I have been able to get things working again is to unplug the airport express; restore the airport extreme to its factory settings, and then re-set-up the network on the airport extreme from scratch.
After things were working again, I re-installed the Airport Express and configured it to wirelessly extend the network. Same thing happened: everything was fine for an hour or so, and then the iphone and ipad lost wifi connectivity and wouldn't re-connect. Only way to fix it was again to unplug the airport express and wipe the airport extreme back to factory settings and rebuild the network from scratch.
Is anyone else having this issue? I'd really love to use the Airport Express for its advertised functions of extending my wifi network (and streaming itunes on my stereo downstairs)-- but if it garbles or kills the ability for my iphone and ipad to use Wifi, that's unacceptable and it will be going back to the Apple store.
I should mention that as far as I am aware, I have the latest versions of ios running on the iphone and ipad, and the latest firmware updates for the airport extreme and airport express.

Problem solved. I was recommended by a non Apple consultant to manually change the radio channel. Channel 11 worked.

If you haven't set up iCloud on your wife's phone yet, simply go to Settings>iCloud on her phone and sign in with a different Apple ID. (If you don't have one, tap Get Free Apple ID at the bottom to create one. This will require a different non-Apple email address, which must be verified to validate the ID.) You can continue to share the same Apple ID for purchasing (in Settings>iTunes & App Stores). It does not need to be the same as the ID you use for other services such as iCloud.
If, on the other hand, your existing iCloud account is already set up on her phone, and her data is now merged with yours, you will need to migrate her phone to a new account, then delete the unwanted data from each account. Begin by saving any photo stream photos she has on her phone to her camera roll by opening her my photo stream album, tapping Edit, tap all the photos, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud on her phone, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud. Your devices will not be effected by this.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone. Next, set up her new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (i.e., delete her data from your account, and vice versa). -

I can print from my macbook pro using airport express usb connected printer, however my iPad and iphone are looking for an airprint printer. Can I direct the iPad/iphone to the usb connected printer. Macbook iphone and iPad confirm a wifi connection through the airport express.
You will need to install an App like Print Central on the iPad to try to print to the printer. It will allow you to print to most printers. Check with their support folks if you need more info.

Is this on wifi or cellular data?
Have you tried a reset? Hold down the home/power button until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
Have you gone into the email settings and making sure the password are still there? -
I have a linksys WRT54G router that we use as a base. I want to use Airplay using Airport Express and hook up my stereo to it. How can i set up my Airport express without a PC/laptop? I just downloaded Airport utility on my iphone and ipad,will that work? And one more thing about the setup, the linksys router shich acts as a base is in a different room as the airport express which i wanted to use for airplay. So I'm hoping to hook up the Airport express via wireless signal. If i can set it up, can someone pls help me out by posting detailed instructions. Thanks so much!
The first message that AirPort Utility will display during the auto setup will be that the Express will be confgured to "extend" the network. When AirPort Utility analyzes the network further, and sees that the Express cannot "extend" the 3rd party network, the next message will indicate that the Express is being configured to "join" the wireless network.
Once the Express is configured, if you later go into AirPort Utility to check the settings under the Wireless tab, you will see that the Wireless Mode is indeed "Join a wireless network". -

My two iMacs frequently go offline when I have my iPad and two iPhones-5 connected with Airport Express (2nd edition). If I disable WiFi on my three "i" devices the offline problem stops. Any thoughts on this?

My opinion would be that it is likely not the ISP, unless you have complete loss of Internet service for all devices at the same time......it is the Comtrend device....

Can I create separate folders to save media on my Airport Time Capsule? Issue is I have a 256GB HDD Mac Pro Retina which is almost full. TC will only take backup of my HDD. So where would I save my photos and videos from my iPhone and iPad?
It is a hard one.. laptops with small drives are a pain.
What you need is a home media server.
Some people use a PC running itunes for cost.. but that is nothing like as good as using a Mac mini.. they make great little HTPC device.. you can plug in large hard disks and store all your files and media. And share it with the network.. Read up apple's instructions on home sharing.

For cost you can buy a mini from 2011 or 2012.. I would not recommend earlier ones.. the advantage of 2012 is they have USB3 ports. But you will pay more for them.. new mini is not as useful.. they have soldered in memory and you cannot upgrade.. the old mini was the most easily modified mac in the whole range. Uses little power and can be bought for a $300US for a good one second hand.. maybe less. -
My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or directly into an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable using the same wall plug in the same wall socket. This makes no sense but I see that it has been posted as a problem elsewhere. This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.

I am using the same Apple id for my iPhone and iPad! Does this cause a problem with apps?
I Was told I should use a whole different I'd with my iPad because if I have both my phone and iPad with the same Apple id it will cause conflict with the apps on each of them. Does this happen?
No. I've been using the same Apple ID on my iPhone and iPad for years without problems. If fact, if both devices are yours and you use both devices having the same Apple ID on each of them is preferable.

I Can no longer synch my iPhone and iPad to Outlook using iTunes on a Win 7 Pc. I updated to iTunes 11.1.4.62 a few days ago. Don't know if that caused my problem. I've reset the Synch History, deleted any Notes in Outlook that don't have a subject. Grateful for any help.

I want to upgrade iOS from 5 to 6, but when I go to synch everything in preparation, it tells me I will lose all my stuff on the iPhone and iPad which is/are unique. How can I backup or do a "real synch" (both sides have same data at end of process) and then upgrade?
You should really read the manual.

They would only be where you put them. What program did you use to import them? Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all. You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer. -
I have a Airport Time Capsule 2T, I would like to know if it is possible to backup all my apple divides (iMac, iPhone and iPad)?
The iMac can back up to the Time Capsule, but iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad back up to either iTunes on your Mac....or....to iCloud.
If the iPhone and iPad back up to iTunes on your Mac, then when the iMac backs up the iOS backups are sent to the Time Capsule as well. So, the iPhone and iPad back up indirectly to the Time Capsule.
The iPhone and iPad cannot back up directly to the Time Capsule.

Can't connect (wireless) to my Airport Express anymore with iBook, iPad or iPhone.
Can't connect (wireless) to my Airport Express anymore with iBook, iPad or iPhone. It still recognizes the printer on the iBook (bonjour), but not on my Windows notebook (work). The only device that still connects via wireless is the PlayStation 3.
