Airport express causing block of wireless for all devices

Hi, I recently purchased a new airport express and it worked for about 10 minutes but then on my iPhone and iPad it told me 'authentication required' and to add my username and password. The login page is blank but looks as though it should be a login page for a wireless hotspot. I have tried every login I have and none of them work. I eventually get a 404 error and can't access my own wireless network.
The worst thing is, now, all my wireless devices are blocked (even non apple products) and I have no wireless at all. On all devices I have a very good wireless signal and it says I am connected however they also say that wireless is not available.
This is doing my head now as it's been 3 days and I can't get on to my own wireless network all because of what seems to have happened since I tried to activate the airport express.
Please somebody say they can help me with my problem. Thanks

I seemed to have found a solution...  I disabled the DHCP and gave it a static address...  seems to have worked.

  • Slow Airport Express blinking green - network traffic when all devices off?

My G5 imac and airport express are lightning fast when everything boots up, slow as molasses later. The airport express is 3 feet away from my G5, and hooked up by ethernet to a cable modem.
I've also noticed that my airport express is blinking green, showing network traffic, when both my imac and ipad are turned off - even though I have the airport express set to be hidden, password protected and limited to certain airport IDs. Is it possible that my airport are being hijacked, or is there another reason for the variability in speed? My MacScan and iAntiVirus report no malware or cookies or viruses.

The cable company sends continuous, almost non-stop garbage down the line. The tech guy at the cable company would say that the devices are "associating". That's why you see the green light flashing. You might want to turn off the "flash on activity" option and simply have it glow solid green...unless you like to watch the flashing, or you want to switch to DSL.
Try turning off the anti-virus to see if that helps wireless perform better. Most anti-virus applications do more harm than good. Otherwise, look for wireless interference from another nearby wireless network, cordless phone, or even that new security system at the neighbors.

  • Will extending a wireless network using airport express cause weaker signal?

Hoping someone can advise on the following please....
I have installed an Airport Express to extend my wireless network and have confirmed with Apple tech support that it's connected and configured properly. I'm using an Airport Extreme base station as a wireless router.
The AX does not seem to be extending the signal range at all, and since the setup the signal strenght from the Extreme base station seems to be at half previous strengh.
Has anyone experienced this please and, if so, what's the fix?
    Any replies gratefully received.
    Regards

Let's check the settings on your Express. Temporarily, move it to the same room or an adjacent room to the Extreme and power it back up.
Open AirPort Utility - select the Express - Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons and make sure that your settings look like this:
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as the Extreme wireless network
Check mark entered next to Allow wireless clients
Wireless Security = Same setting as the Extreme network
Wireless Password = Same password as the Extreme network
    Confirm Password
Update to save settings, wait for green light.
Then move the Express another room or two further away from the Extreme....and restart both the Extreme and the Express. Then perform the BSSID test again.

  • How do I use my airport express as my default audio for a laptop?

I can stream music from iTunes to our airport exoress no problem, but I'd like to be able to use the speakers connected to our Airport Express as the default audio output for my MacBook Pro - i.e for all sounds, aps, etc.  This would allow me to wirelessly stream music or any other audio (not just iTunes) and then have it played through the speakers.  I've googled and looked here, but cannot seem to find a clear cut answer that isn't two plus years old in all the clutter.
    Thank you in advance.
(PS - I'm working on a MacBook Pro with the latest and currently up to date OS X 10.7.2)

The bottom line is that you will need an application like Airfoil for Mac to be able to stream any audio source on your Mac to the AirPort Express.

  • How do I set up multiple Airport Expresses to connect over ethernet for Airtunes only?

I am trying to set up an Airtunes network using an Airport Extreme and three Airport Expresses connected together via ethernet (CAT5 cable). At each Airport Express there will be a speaker setup. I don't need/want internet connectivity on the network, but not sure if it is required for setup or not. I have made this work over wifi, using the Expresses to extend the network, but struggling to get this to work over ethernet.
I would be verry grateful of a step-by-step method to setting this up! I am also looking to set up 6 airport expresses to do the same thing in another location.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the info.
I assume that the AirPort Extreme is setup and working at this point.
Work with one AirPort Express at a time to get them all configured, and then you can locate them where they will be needed.
AirPort Setup will configure the Express devices to "extend a wireless network" using Ethernet, so they will be broadcasting the same wireless signal as the AirPort Extreme and provide more wireless signal coverage as well.
I have yet to meet the first person who thought that they had too much wireless coverage, but you would have the option to turn off the wireless on the Express if you wanted. Most users like having extended wireless for their devices.
Temporarily, move an Express close to the AirPort Extreme
Connect a spare Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Extreme to the WAN "O" port on the Express
Power up the Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Express for 10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Click the Airport icon at the top of the Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for AirPort Express to appear just under the listing of New AirPort Base Station
Click directly on the AirPort Express
AirPort Setup will open up automatically and take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the Express will be configured to extend the AirPort Extreme network.
Enter a device name that you want to use....example.....Express1.....and click Next
AirPort Setup will configure everything for you. Notice that the message will say that the Express is being set up to extend using Ethernet. When you see the message of setup complete, click Done.
Now you can move the Express to the remote location where it is needed, hook it up to the Ethernet connection there, power up the Express and set up AirTunes on the device.
AirTunes is enabled by default, to other than make the speaker connection, you won't have much to do on that.
Set up other Express devices the same way, except assign a different name to each device....example....Express2, Express3, etc.....to keep things organized.

  • Airport Express Card on a wireless PC network??

Hey there, I was curious if it was possible to use a G5 with an Airport Express Card on a wireless PC network. My wife needs to be able to access the internet from another part of the house. Someone mentioned that it might be possible, but I can't seem to find anything explaining how to do it. Thanks for your time!
    Jeff

Which wireless router are you using?
    Are you using WEP?
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

  • Can I run a cat5 cable to a 4 port hub from a cisco router then connect one of the hub's output ports to an airport express to 'extend' my wireless range?

Can I run a cat5 cable to a 4 port hub from a cisco router then connect one of the hub's output ports to an airport express to 'extend' my wireless range?
    Flow would be
Cable modem---->cisco e2000 wifi router (This is broadcasting wifi but not strong enough)---->4 port hub ---->airport express (to extend the wifi in another part of house)
    thanks!

Yes, you can do this as you stated. In essence you will want to configure both routers for roaming network. Please check out the following Apple Support article that describes this type of network. Although this article uses two or more AirPorts, it can be done with just about any manufacturer's router.

Before I bought it I did the same question at the Apple Store, and they told me "You can extend your existing Wi-Fi Signal with Airport Express wireless...
You cannot extend wireless from any brand except another apple router.. the store might have assumed you were using an apple main router. Most people who buy express buy them to extend an extreme or time capsule.
You are correct .. in the setup documents it does say 5.6.1 is adequate to do the setup.. my bad.. !!

  • Using Airport Express to extend my wireless network

I recently purchased a Time Capsule but found that I could not see the wireless signal from my bedroom. To solve this I purchased an Airport Express to extend the range. I plugged the AE into an outlet in my bed room and set it up to join my existing network. Everything looked fine from the point of view of the Airport Utility. Unfortunately my iPod Touch still can not see my wireless network from my bedroom. I new iPad can see it but the signal is very weak, even when I hold it right next to the AE. Is there a setting I missed?

Rick, welcome to the discussion area!
I plugged the AE into an outlet in my bed room and set it up to join my existing network.
You need to configure the AirPort Express to "Extend a wireless network". The AX does not provide any additional wireless coverage when it is set to "join".
First, you need to check a setting on your Time Capsule as follows:
AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Wireless tab (below the icons)
Make sure there is a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
    Update to save any changes
On the AirPort Express move it close to the Time Capsule for configuration:
AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network" (Hold down the option key on your Mac if you do not see this choice appear when you click the selection box).
Wireless Network Name = Same name as your Time Capsule Network
Check mark next to "Allow wireless clients"
Security = Same setting as your Time Capsule
Password = Same password as your Time Capsule
    Confirm Password
    Update to save settings
The AirPort Express can only "extend" what it "receives". Most users position it too far away from the main router and consequently, the Express extends a weak signal. Try a location that is about 1/2 to 2/3 the distance between the Time Capsule and the area that needs move coverage. Then experiment a bit to find the best signal.
    Post back on your results.

  • Airport express failing to extend wireless network

Have got an airport extreme connected via ethernet to my Virgin Media hub (hub is in modem mode).  Also have an airport express to extend the wireless network.  Setup has been working perfectly for over a year, then this weekend, literally no settings have been changed, and airport express is giving me a status message of "This airport base station was unable to extend the wireless network. Make sure the wireless network you're trying to extend was setup and is working correctly, that you entered a matching wireless network password into this device and that this device is in range of the wireless network"
I have reset to factory settings 3 times now and whilst it goes through the initial setup, i always get the same status message.  Front light is green.
The express version I'm using is the 2012 redesigned version, looks like a white Apple TV and it has the latest firmware.  I've tried configuring via my MBA, windows desktop pc (windows 7) and ipad, nothing works
    Any ideas?

You have to think of the Express devices as matching pairs when you have one set up to create a wireless and the other to extend it. Here, I assume that you still have the extending Express set up to extend the network.
Power off both AirPort Express devices. The power down order does not matter.
    Wait a minute
Power up the main AirPort Express.....the one directly connected to the Virgin hub....and let it run a full minute
Then, power up the extending Express
Check the network and report on your results

  • Airport Express won't extend wireless network

I think due to a fault my airport express wont extend my wireless network around my house , but it will allow for airplay ... is it possiple to extend my network using the express but with an eithernet cable rather than the wireless that is transmitted out of the express unit ??

Is the other wireless router, that you are trying to extend, another AirPort or Time Capsule base station? If so, are both units 802.11n models? Finally, what is the rough distance between the units and are they located in the same room, different room, or different floor?

I have a pioneer vsx-910-k and airport express.I have a wireless network at home. What's the best arquiecture/config to do with this hardware?

I would suggest that you connect the Pioneer to the AirPort Express Base Station using an optical digital audio cable that has a TOSlink connector on one end and a 3.5 mm optical connector (Mini Plug) on the other. You can then connect the Mini Plug end into the AirPort's audio port and the TOSlink end into one of the Pioneer's optical digital audio ports.

  • Does airport express stream directly to wireless speakers or does it need to be connected through an audio cable to an amplifier before the speakers

Does airport express stream directly to wireless speakers or does it need to be connected through an audio cable to an amplifier before the speakers?

I got an additional question bout this topic:
is it possible to use both at the same time? in my case cable-connected speakers in the living-room and an Airplay-speaker in the bathroom and/or kitchen?
so I select the Airport Express as Airplay-Output on my iPad and from there it's shared via cable AND wireless? this would solve the problem of being able to only select ONE Airplay-Output on my iPad at the same time...
