Airport Express Continues to Blink Green

I got a airport express for my birthday and when trying to set it up it just blinks green. I plan to use it with speakers but i have also tried it as a router with the same problem. I have tried to reset and same problem happens. Any ideas?

Start over by resetting your AirPort Express (AX) back to factory defaults as follows:
Power down the AX for a few moments
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the AX back in to power
Release the reset button after 10 seconds
By default, the AX creates a wireless network with a name like +apple network xxxxxx+, where the "x" can be either a letter or number. You will need to log on to this network with your computer. Once you have done this, you should be able to open AirPort Utility to "see" the AX.
Click "Continue" and follow the guided setup to configure your AX.

I'm running Mavericks on a 24-inch 2007 mac, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, OS X 10.9.3 (13D65). The Airport Express is model A1264. I connect to it via an Airport Extreme with 7.6.4.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Airport utility will not detect airport express, there is no green light on airlport express solid yellow then just a momentary green

I had airport express set up for a wireless network in a hotel room. Forgot password when I got home and reset but now the yellow light stays on with only a momentary green then back to solid yellow. Any ideas.  Airport utility does not see it.

Unfortunately, this type of symptom is usually a signal that there is an internal electrical problem with the Express.
Hopefully, it is simply locked up and can be reset.
Try a Factory Default Reset as follows:
    Power down the AirPort Express
Leave it off at least 10 minutes, longer will not hurt
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it another 10-12 seconds while you plug the Express back in to power
    Release the reset button
Allow 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart.
If things are back to normal, you will see a slow blinking amber light after 40-45 seconds.
If you continue to see the solid amber with short green flash after a few reset tries, I am afraid that the device has failed and will need to be replaced.

  • Airport express 802.11 solid green but not working

My airport express has been working for several months but will not now.
I bought it to extend our internet to the upstairs as it was too far from out
    internet location.
I have restarted it and moved to different outlets upstairs, but it will not work.
It goes through all the proper color changes and is solid green now. I can stand next
to it and there is no connection.

Did you happen to firmware update the main router?? That seems to cause the issue. Or even the express will cause it.. there is a new firmware just hit the web.. 7.6.4 so if you vaguely remember doing it .. or see the main router is now running 7.6.4.. that is why.
Reset everything to factory and start over.. that is the best way to get things running again.

Even if the update didn't go through.. still do the factory reset and reconfigure.. it will all come good.

  • Airport Express flashing amber then green

I've read a few posts about recent problems with Airport Express after firmware update. I, too, am having a problem yet things are actually still working. A few days ago I noticed that my AX was flashing amber and my first thought was oh no it's quitting on me. It is located in my family room and bridges my Airport Extreme in another room. I also have Apple TV and the AX serves to extend my network for it. I ran the firmware update for the Extreme and the utility update when they 1st came out but hadn't done the Express. When I went to the computer to do it, I saw a message that said there appeared to be a problem with the Express. I ran the update and all seemed good.
But today I noticed that the Express is flashing amber again. However, after a few seconds of flashing it returns to solid green. This has been going on for over an hour and I am streaming music through my Apple TV with no interruption. So I guess there is a problem - sort of. Wanted to report what I've experienced with the recent update.

Thanks for your response. I followed your directions but my AE is still going from green to flashing amber and back to green again. I even unplugged it from the family room and brought it closer to my Airport Extreme while reinstalling the firmware and then returned it. Still doing it. But the good news is I can still listen to music and watch movies from my Apple TV without interruption. My Extreme is showing solid green as always.

Airport Exopress light is solid green, but I can not get on the internet.  Does anyone have a suggestion how to fix this?

Would you please provide some more information about your current network so that we can help you? For example, is your AirPort Express the only router in your current network configuration? That is, is it connected directly to a broadband modem or to another router upstream of it? Regardless, what is the make & model of this modem?
When changing network equipment or when setting it up for the first time, it is always a good idea to perform a completer power recycle of your networking equipment. Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for the details.

  • I'm having trouble with my airport express continually disconnecting from my network.

I have my airport express set up to extend my network wirelessly from my Airport Time Capsule base station.  My base station is setup in the basement connected to my Comcast internet router (Motorola Surfboard SB6141).  My Airport Express is on the main floor in our computer room and is connected via ethernet cable to my iMac.  About 1x/day the express drops connection to the Time Capsule and the only way I can seem to get the extension back up and running is to stop/start the Time Capsule.  Any ideas on what is wrong?

The easiest way to set up to most provider routers is to set up the time capsule to bridge mode with dhcp enabled--meaning the time capsule pulls an IP address from the providers router. Then connect the other express or extreme to time capsule using apples built in bridging.
Doing it this way gives your network one dhcp server--the providers router. This way you will be able to reach all your providers tv receivers for the app controllers because all devices will be on the same subnet.
The trade off is the controlling device for firewall and ports is the providers router. So if you want remote access to your hard drive in the time capsule you will need to allow this through the providers router.
To me it sounds like you have 2 dhcp servers and when you reboot the dhcp server that boots up the quickest give the IP address out. Then when the time to live timer expires and the devices needs to check and make sure it is still good with its IP address another dhcp server steps in and causes your issue.

  • Airport express continually diasppears from admin utility

    Hi people
I have an apple airport express and airport airport extreme base station
both with the latest firmware patches.
The airport extreme is connected to my optus cable modem and provided internet for my partners wireless laptop and my desktop. My desktop is plugged in via ethernet to extreme base station.
I can start the admin utility and run air tunes for a few minutes then the base station disappears from the admin utility and my connection to air tunes breaks. My connection to the internet remains ok.
If my partner uses her laptop via wireless to serve up airtunes the connection is stable and the basestation does not disappear from her admin utility.
No sure what is going on here, if anything i would have thought that a direct ethernet connection should be more reliable than a wireless connection. This is a very disappointing result as i specifically went the apple kit to ensure that the airtunes express would work with my router...
Any thoughts or is it (as i read other similar posts) completely broken ??
    regards
    Mark W

I have this exact same problem. It's like something spontaneously just ceased to work inside the AE unit. I don't understand it.
I tried updating the firmware to 6.3 and updated Airport on the G4 to 4.2.1, but nothing has changed. If anything, the problem seems to have gotten worse (sometimes connecting -- > NEVER connecting).
All the forums I have read seem to think this problem has yet to be solved by Apple. They recommend downloading iStumbler or a utility to monitor your networks and keep them "alive" by constantly pinging with a low-level signal. That hasn't worked either.
    Need expert advice, please.

  • Airport Express Continuously Drop Ethernet Connection

    Hi:
I have an Airport Express (802.11n) with the latest update software available (7.4.2) and I running my iMac with Snow Leopard (also with the latest software actualization). Since a few weeks ago the device has been dropping the ethernet connection every now and then without any error or malfunction of the software.
I already try almost everything including reset the device and configure a new WiFi net. In some reviews and forums that I have been investigating says that maybe is a firmware (?) problem.
If anybody has the same problem and found the way to solve it I really appreciate the answer to this issue.
    Thanks.

I had this happen with a new box. One glorious moment it worked first time and then it started doing what you described but hard on! See this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2164508 . Finally solved by getting a replacement from the store!

  • Airport Express - continually dropping airtunes

Upgraded to Leopard and seem to have created a job for life fixing everything... and Apple poked fun at MS for Vista
Two days ago and for the past 2+ years my G5 daily delivers tunes to the hifi via airtunes and an airport express. As of the last hour when i got as far as checking if iTunes is working after the archive / install i find my music plays for bursts of no more then 30 or 40 seconds with anything from 10 - 30 second gaps where the signal is being dropped. The G5 is also being erratic on the internet.
As a test i have itunes on this powerbook g4 OS X.4 and can play music to the same airport express unit with no dropping or any misbehavior.
All in all hardly a great advert for the supreme features of leopard so far.. anyone who can point me to my failing or a fix I would be grateful

this had nothing to do with bootcamp and was posted in wrong discussion sorry.... problem now cleared up by the apple keychain update

  • Airport Express- Amber Light Blinking - Nothing works!

Looking for Henry B. (or anyone else with a bright idea).
A few days ago, no airport connection from my PB G4. I have had the same setup for the last year and a half without a problem - Airport 802.11b to AXP to T1 connection to/from my wall (no modem or router, etc.).
Problems started with the no-connection. Clicking on the Airport icon in the toolbar gave me the endless spinning wheel. Hard shut down, which I NEVER have to do. In the last four days, I've done hard shut downs about 30-50 times.
AXP: had a green light. Unplugged for 20 seconds, plugged back in to a green light. Did a soft reset, thinking something had to change so the PB would see the AXP. Amber blinking light. Hard reset. Amber blinking light. Factory default reset: Amber blinking light. Every time, the PB doesn't see the AXP or an Apple Newtork XXXXXX.
Plugging the ethernet cable from the wall directly into the PB works great. Called the ISP, great technician could see my connection, said everything was fine on their end and that they do not limit any wireless/router equipment usage.
Again, not a single problem until a few days ago.
With all the crashes, I saw that some Finder crashes were involving Application Enhancer. I had Application Enhancer until an hour ago - uninstalled it. Didn't help. Also read about StuffIt AVR causing problems bu thaven't located any file with that name.
Henry B., if you're out there, please send me a miracle cure.
    Cheers all,
    Jason

clicking Airport icon shows no available networks (i used to see some of the meighbors' networks sometimes. so i can't seem to connect wirelessly.
have another graphite iBook clamshell running Panther. didn't mention this earlier, but that computer has been acting similar to mine since the same day a few days ago. i just opened airport setup assistant and have the spinning ball for the last four minutes.
again, both computers worked fine until that day. the only things i could think of that would cause this coincidence are power surge, virus, or something to do with airport. PB is working fine now, after 4-5 restarts today. iBook now seems frozen.

  • Airport Express setup seems fine....then nothing....

    Hi!
I've been trying to add an Airport Express to my existing wireless network (A-Link ADSL saferouter -> Buffalo Airstation WHR-G54S).
Using both the Airport Setup Assistant and Airport Admin Utility, I've followed the steps in the manual/on the support section (here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302153) and the whole setup seems to go along as it should, until the final stages:
    1. The Airport Express doesn't seem to restart: the light goes from green to off to solid amber, and then instead of going green it blinks amber. This step takes a long time (about 60 seconds)
    2. The Setup Assistant tries to reconnect to my existing network (on the Buffalo wireless router) but doesn't seem to succeed, even if I connect manually (this step also takes about 60 seconds)
    3. The Setup Assistant attempts to detect the Airport Express. This step takes about 60 seconds, and the Airport Express continues to blink amber the whole time.
    4. At the end of the setup process, I get the following message:
The AirPort Setup Assistant has successfully configured the AirPort base station but is unable to reconnect to the network or detect if the base station is functioning correctly.
This may be caused by one of the following:
The base station did not finish restarting
The network security or password are not correct
You manually canceled the detection process
Please allow the base station to finish restarting and then manually connect to the network.
Of the conditions above, "network security and password" should be OK unless there's some issue I'm not aware of; I didn't manually cancel the detection process.
After all this, the Airport Express continues to blink amber and is entirely undetectable by my machine unless I perform a hard reset and start the process again.
Any ideas what could be the trouble?
    Thanks!

    David,
This is not a definitive answer, but to me it sounds like the Express power supply may have given up the ghost. Usually, if the indicator light goes completely dark this is the case.
If you had a local power surge or nearby lightning strike, that would further confirm my suspicion.

  • Green light blinking continously on Airport Express

    Hi,
since 2 days after software update on Mac OSX10.6.8 I've got my AEB down.
The green light is blinking continuously.
I tried all what i could find on the net :
    - reset via utiltiy : Airport Utility 5.6.1 doesn't show any network, neither options, tab, buttons or what so ever.
    - software reset of AEB : green light still blinking
    - hardware reset of AEB : the same, no orange after 1 second
    - reset AEB to default : the same, no orange after 1 second
Internet is ok via Ethernet cable thru the DSL modem.
I would like to understand if it is a hardware trouble or firmware/software trouble.
After pushing reset button of AEB, it is written that led blink orange after 1 second. Does it mean the hardware is kaputt?
Or is it an update of the firmware that went wrong?
    Thank you.

    I saw this post https://discussions.apple.com/message/17298925#17298925
    though i'm still in wonder.
Because status light don't mention green blinking as a fault but as "normal" :
"Si vous choisissez l’option Clignotement en cas d’activité dans le menu local Voyant d’état (dans la sous-fenêtre Borne d’accès des réglages AirPort de l’utilitaire AirPort), le voyant d’état clignote en vert pour indiquer un fonctionnement normal."
    that i translate in :
if you select blinking option in case of activities in local menu Status led (in sub-windows "Borne d'accès" of tuning Airport Utility), the led blinks green to say working normally.
But operating guide says "Flashing green : AirPort Express is starting up. The light flashes for one second."
