Airport Express does not show up under 10.3.9 - but shows up under 10.4.9

Hi
my Room Mate uses an PowerBook with 10.3.9 and was able to use his Airport Express before without any problem.
Without any reason the Airport disappeared from the options in his list in the taskbar, also looking for preferred networks does not show the station.
BUT
if I start my PowerBook - running 10.4.9 - with the latest Utility Program that came with my Airport Extreme BaseStation - I have no problems to identify, configure and connect to the Express Station!
Why is my Room Mate unable to get the Airport Express on his Mac?

Max,
As I read it below, you both have separate internet sources and basically two separate wireless systems. He uses the Airport Express as a base station for his system and you use an Airport Extreme 802.11n for your base station.
You said he used to be able to access the system but now he can't. What changes to the system were made during that period of time.
Under these circumstances what I think I would try is for him to open up the old Airport Admin Utility, factory reset his Express, and then try to reconfigure it to build his own wifi system with the old Airport Admin Utility. Once he factory resets it goes back to the factory id and loses all memory of any system it may have been tied to.
I'd call the new system a different name than the old system and if he uses security use a different password than the first one.
The thing I don't understand below, if he has his own separate system, I don't understand how you can see and edit his settings because he's not part of your system. However, since you have to be using 10.4.8 or later for the new 802.11n Extreme and it looks like you tried configuring his system with the new Utility and he's running 10.3.9 - that may have something to do with it.
Beyond this, it's out of my knowledge base.

    Contact HP for support.
Explain that you are using a Mac, anticipate the inevitable groan, and wait patiently for their resident Mac expert to return from vacation.
Until then download and install its driver here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=5058338&cc=us&dlc=en &lc=en

  • Hi, The Airport Express does not work with iOS 7.0.4, I appreciate your help to resolve this event. Thank you,

Hi, The Airport Express does not work with iOS 7.0.4, I appreciate your help to resolve this event. Thank you,

Please locate the model number of the AirPort Express and post back that information.
The model number is located on the side of the AirPort Express. It begins with an "A" followed by four numbers.
We are not sure what you mean by "does not work".  Does this mean that the AirPort Express worked at one time and has just recently stopped working?
Have you installed a newer operating system on your iOS device recently?
Or, is this a new AirPort Express that you are trying to configure for the first time?
If yes, what service will the AirPort Express perform on your network?
Please remember that we cannot see your network, so we only know as much about your problem as you can tell us.

  • Help Needed: Airport Express does not work

My Airport Express was ok until one day I setup it under bridge mode in a hotel room. Now neither my iMac and Dell laptop can update the settings in the Airport Express. It always shows error in reading the settings.
I have tried soft, hard reset and also tried to bring it back to factory settings. However, all these trials were not successful. It did not even blink with green light when I tried to reset it to factory settings (hold the reset pin, plug in power socket and then release the pin... I believe I did it right).
Also the network name I created in this Airport Express did not change to default name. The Airport Express name was restored to default though.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Do I have to send the hardware to Apple to fix it or it is just a software failure that I can fix at home with you guys help?
    Thanks!

Same problem here -- followed instructions to do factory reset to a "T", never saw blinking green LED. Instead led blinks yellow. Always get an error in Airport Utility.
Apple had best quit poking fun at how lousy Microsoft stuff is before someone sees the large number of product complaints logged in the forums. It isn't smart to toss stones in a glass house.

  • Airport express does not appear in Airport Utility

    Hello,
I am having problems connecting my Airport Express to my network.
My configuration is all Apple. I am attempting to set up Airtunes. I have an Airport Extreme (software version 5.7) plus Airport Express. The Airport Extreme is hardwired to my Power Mac G5 (10.5.6) via ethernet. Wireless security is WEP 128 bit.
The Airport Express appears to establish a connection with no problems. The indicator light on the Express goes through normal start up and then a steady solid green.
Airport Utility shows the Airport Extreme but the Airport Express is not listed.
Any suggestions on how to make the connection are appreciated!
    Thank you!

When having difficulties accessing the AirPort thru the AirPort Utility, try the following, in order checking accessibility with the AirPort Utility after each step:
o Check the local connection. If you are trying to access the AirPort wirelessly, make sure that you are connected to its wireless network before running the AirPort Utility to administer it. If you are still unable to access it with the utility, temporarily connect your computer directly using an Ethernet cable to one of the base station's LAN ports.
o Power cycle the base station. Remove the power adapter's plug from the power outlet, and then, wait 15 seconds before plugging it back in.
o Perform a "factory default" (AirPort Express) or "hard" (AirPort Extreme / Time Capsule) reset.

  • Airport Express does not allow ethernet connection to internet

I use my Airport Express to stream music to my speakers from iTunes, but I find that I cannot access the Internet via the ethernet modem connection. What is the deal?

Hello Stonegroove. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
In order to use the Ethernet port on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to access the Internet, the AX would have to be configured as part of a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).

  • Airport Express does not show up in iTunes to stream audio...

I updated iTunes to 8.0 and no longer can see my Airport Express as an option in the pull down screen to stream audio from my iTunes to the AE.
The AE has a green light. which makes me believe that it found my LAN, but it can't find my mac.
    Router: Linksys BEFSR41
    iTunes: 8.0.2
What am I doing wrong? Why did it break after upgrade to 8.0?

I have a linksys wired router BEFSR41 and was not able to see Airport express in the iTunes page to stream music to my A/V device for quite some time.
Linksys set up page has a setting called "Filter Multicast in "security" section that allows for multiple transmissions to specific recipients at the same time.
The factory default is "disable". Change this to "enable" and save settings.
I did not have to restart iTunes to see the change take effect. The Airport Express showed up along with AppleTV for me to select...

  • Why my older Airport Express does not work with OS-X 10.9?

After getting my new iMac and upgrading to Marveric, I can not get my older AirPort Express work. Why?

Mavericks does not support the older "b/g" wireless versions of the AirPorts, only the newer "n" wireless versions.
You can use another Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard, or a PC to administer the older AirPort Express.

  • Airport express does not see password protected airport network

When I try and password protect my Airport network, my Airport Express, set to join an existing network to play music on my stereo, can no longer see the network. I have my Airport Express plugged in via ethernet to configure it, and the Admin Utility shows a pop up menu for available networks to join, but this menu only shows my Airport network when password protection for the network is turned off. I never set my network to be hidden, so that's not the problem, and my laptop(s) can always see the Airprort network, regardless of password protection being enabled or not.
Supposedly you can select a password protected network for the Express to join and then it will prompt you to enter the password, but if it is not in the list then I can't select it. I can type in the network name, but again, it only joins if I turn off password protection for the network.
Is there a work around for this?

Your express will need to see the SSID in order to connect. I would suggest that you temporarily turn off the security (WPA2) on your D-Link router, make sure it is broadcasting the SSID, and then see if the express detects it. If the express doesn't see it, make sure some other device can.
You also might try changing the SSID, or turning it off and back on and see if that helps.
Once you can see it in the clear, add the security, and be sure to enter it in exactly, be careful of capitals, etc.

  • Airport Express does not see SSID.

Odd problem.  I am trying to configure an Airport Express to stream music.  I am using a D-Link DGL-4500 wireless router on a mixed 802.11n and 802.11g network.  SSID is set to broadcast.  Security is WPA2-Personal.  Network has worked fine for years, and every device I have tried has connected fine.
I plug in my Airport Express and bring up the Airport Utility.  When I start the configuration, I do not see my network's SSID in the list of available networks.  I can see my neighbors' SSIDs, but not mine.  If I manually enter the SSID, and complete the configuration, the Airport Extreme will not connect to my network (only blinking amber light).  I've checked the router logs for the Airport Extreme's MAC, to try to determine if there was a connection attempt, but I see nothing.
I've done a factory reset and tried several times to configure the device, but it never connects.  More strangely, it does not appear to even try to connect.  I'm pretty much at the end of my rope.  Any ideas before I send it back?
    Thanks!

  • AirPort Express does not Charge iPhone 4

Just plugged in my iPhone 4 to my AirPort Express for the first time (only got it a week ago) and I'm sitting her absolutely shocked staring at a screen on the iPhone 4 saying "Charing is not supported with this accessory."
Uhh.... what??? Either this is a mistake or having the airport express have a USB port and making it look just like the normal iPhone 4 charger is incredibly misleading...

Tbh it's a USB port. It sends/ receives signals/ data. To say that a multifunctional port can only do one thing is false. It may be designed/ mentioned to only do that one thing so u buy more of the over priced USB plugs.
I said I was shocked for two reasons,
One all apple products require other apple products to work, or streaming to the tv. Easy to do on a laptop/Samsung phone or tablet and most are comparable with Bluetooth streamers or have HdMi input built in. Apple iPhones require over priced apple TVs etc etc
The second thing is it dose charge but for a short period, like 10 seconds to a minuet, and it will keep trying to reconnect/ charge the phone for a few hours after that (clear signs its not compatible) but I am 'shocked' it dose not do a simpler full charge, instead provides enough charge/ power to keep the phone going/ doing what it was for hours... It was on 1% from 9am to 11 pm, went up to 5% was playing music via air play. As well as the odd game and checking eBay when item was finishing. Backlight on full. Like I said software issue.

  • Airport Express does not connect to the DSL Ethernet

I have had an Airport Express (AE) for several years working with no issues. I bought the newest version a month ago and have been trying since to get it to work. I can not get it to recognize the ethernet cable being plugged in when I try the "replace existing device" set up, I can not get it set up when I try "set up a new network. It does not work when I try to use it as a range extender. I tried many things, went to the apple genius bar three times, they gave me a new one. Same thing. I did factory settings resets, etc. I canged channels. Nothing works. Any ideas what else can be wrong?

What version of AX do you have? And what setting do you have it configured for (such as Create a Wireless Network)?

  • Airport Express does not "Join Existing Network"

Dear all, I do use an iMac and have an ADSL wireless modem to connect to internet. I have purchased an Airport Express which I thought it would be the easiest thing to add to my system but I can not make it join to my wireless network. What I do is:
    1. I plug the AX
    2. Airport utility finds AX and I configure it to "Join Exsiting Network".
    3. After restart the AX can not be found on Utility.
I can only make it work if I choose "create new network" and connect it via etheret cable. I guess I miss something or my DSL modem settings are not correct. Is there any specific setting that I should do for my modem?
Please help I can not use my AX!

    Hi.
I have a similar problem. I have recently switched ISPs. The new provider has supplied me with a ADSL modem (wired) which I have connected to one of the lan ports in my linksys wifi router.
Due to certain space and time constraints, my desktop (which does not have a wifi card) cannot be connected to the wifi router / ADSL modem via RJ45 cable. I would consider doing the wiring, but am planning to move out of this apartment in a month or two.
    Current set-up
Tel. line >> ADSL modem >> Lan port of wifi router >> Wireless network which my notebooks can access
    In my opinion, i now have the following options;
    1. Buy a usb wireless dongle for my desktop - and have it join the network.
    2. Use an airport express - I plan to have the airport express join the network created by my linksys router and then use the lan port on the AE to connect the desktop to the network. (Is is possible to use USB to connect AE & desktop incase lan doesn't function). Would the airport express work in this manner?
Alternate AE uses (which may help justify the purchase )
Currently the linksys wifi router is placed in one corner of my apartment. I don't intend to move it as that will require me to do some sort of wiring - which will become useless in a month or so.
Can I use an AE to increase the strength of my current wifi network i.e. have it join this network (wirelessly) and increase the signal strength in certain areas with weak signal.
PS i have a spare wifi router (Linksys, no usb support) - could i use that and save to serve the same purpose and save some money.

  • I just purchased a wireless connection for my Tivo but the signal strength from my airport express does not allow the tivo to load data. How do I increase the signal strength?

I just purchased a wireless N network adapter for the TIVO premier and am trying to use my apple airport express to connectand it  is in the another room. I am only receiving one  bar of strength on my network adapter. How can I raise the signal strength of my airport express.

There are several things that might help, not all of which would be feasible depending on your situation:  (1) Move the TiVo unit and AirPort Express closer together.  (2) Use another AirPort Express to "extend" the network of the first AirPort Express.  Put the second AirPort Express half way between the first AirPort Express and the TiVo unit.  (3) In the general case, Power-Line equipment might allow the TiVo unit to get a good signal, but it's likely that the Ethernet port of your AirPort Express is probably connected to your broadband modem, so that solution wouldn't work for you.  (4) Changing the band or channel that the AirPort Express is using might help.  If the TiVo unit is connection on the 5 GHz band, try one of the three-digit channels, which are allowed to use higher power.

  • Airport Express does not respond to Airport Utility

I use 2 Airport Express units as printer servers.  I recently changed routers, and both started flashing yellow.  I reset both and reconfigured using airport admin.  The first is now working(I can print wirelessly from my mac laptop) . For the second I got a message after the reconfiguration that Airport admin had lost contact with it.  I cannot bring it up using reset or ethernet.  It flashes yellow soon after each reset.
While I was joining the forum and typing this it came back onto the screen as unconfigured.  I  reconfigured and get the same message:Airpport Utility was unable to find your wireless device after restarting. The device has been successfully updated, but there is a problem rejoining the wirless network.  The AE is flashing yellow again. Any suggestions would be welcome.

The device has been successfully updated, but there is a problem rejoining the wirless network.
This is a famous "error" message that in effect says that the Express stored the settings that it received, but these may not have been the settings that it needed to join the network successfully.
Or, there were some other settings that were still stored on the Express, and the new settings are in conflict with the old settings.
My suggestion would be to first perform a Factory Default Reset on the Express and then try to reconfigure it again.
To perform a Factory Defaut Reset......
Power off the AirPort Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the Express and then keep holding it in for an additional 10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
    Now try the configuration again.
