Airport Express doesn't connect to internet

Got a Airport Express to replace my old router. When modem is run into old router get internet with no problem. When I plug it into the Airport Express I loss internet but Airport Express gives green light.  Go into utility and see internet disconnected but Airport Express is green light. I have reset router and airport express and computer in every possible combination possible.
Any ideas on the problem??

Power off the modem for 30 minutes by pulling the power cord from the back of the modem or from the wall. A longer power down period will not hurt.
If the modem has a battery that is easily accessible, pull the battery as well.
Then reinstall the battery if it was pulled, and start up the modem and let it run for 5 minutes by itself.
Then connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express and start up the Express to see if the modem will now associate correctly with the device.

  • Airport express doesn't connect to internet at work

I'm currently connected to my home network using my Airport Express card. However, I can't connect at work. Here is a screenshot of my System Prefs>Network>TCP/IP page:
-One iMac at work previously has connected wirelessly, and stopped connecting once it restarted and tried to reconnect to the network again.
-Another iMac still does connect to the network. While trying to figure out what the difference was, I realized that it has a Router Number:
Is there any other difference that could make this happen? How do I fix it? Thanks for all your help.

I've tried a bunch of 10.1.10.x's and none of them seem to work. The computer that does work has gotten the IP automatically, though.
I've been doing some reading, and it seems as though OS X self-assigns a 169.254.x.x IP address whenever it tries to get an IP from DHCP and fails. Aside from turning off both the router and the modem for about 15 minutes, is there any other way to make the router give me an IP address? And why does one of the computers work? Do you think that if we tried to renew the DHCP lease on that computer, it wouldn't be able to get one?
I'm not sure what the router is set to give out. How would I check that?

    Hi Jake,
Is it connecting to the Router or Modem?
Is the new Router using maybe WPA2 encryption? If so, G4s can only do WPA or less.

The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>Airport>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...

  • Can i transmit music from iphone to airport express without being connected to internet?

can i transmit music from iphone to airport express without being connected to internet? just from phone to express via local network or whatever it's called.

  • Airport Express won't connect to internet...all is green

My Airport express won't connect to established Network in my office.  I am connecting to a 10/100 base T in the building (as the modem, I assume) and want to broadcast the network for wifi.  Express sets up ok, but than cannot find the internet....any suggestions?  The port is live as I can directly connect it to my Mac Book and find the internet without issues.

It is possible to have a green light on the Express if some network errors are overlooked, so it may be necessary to reset the Express back to factory default settings and start over again.
Keep in mind that some networks will not allow a router to be added to the network, so a computer might work, but a router may not.
What model number of AirPort Express do you have?
What operating system are you using on the MacBook?
Do yo know if the Express has been configured to operate in Bridge Mode?

  • Airport Express: can't connect to internet via adsl modem

I have an old Airport Express which has worked fine in the past and a new ADSL internet account which works fine when I connect to it via PPoE Built-in-Ethernet. But despite following all the instructions in the Airport Setup Assistant I can't get Airport to work with the new modem (it works fine for AirTunes though). The thing is I don't really get how it could work with the new modem seeing as the Airport Setup Assistant doesn't ask me at any point what the username or password is for the new account.
I guess I'm missing something obvious here. Does anyone have any ideas what it is?

Thanks again, I tried that but it didn't work either. Going back to basics, it might help if I tried to set out what I'm trying to take in a bit more detail:
    1. Having just moved house I have a new ADSL line and modem installed by the phone company and a new ISP that has provided me with a username and a password. Using those I have no trouble getting internet via an ethernet cable connecting my iBook and the Modem.
    2. I plug the ethernet cable into my AX and then plug the AX into the wall.
    3. Then I follow the AX set up assistant guide for setting up a new base station.
    4. I click the box for DSL or Cable Modem. I don't click the box for Router
    5. This is the step I'm most unsure about. Because it is the default option I click the box for DSL or Cable modem ... or over Ethernet with an IP address assigned automatically using DHCP." I do not tick "I do not use DHCP". But I don't really know what that means.
    6. AX tells me that it is configured as follows: TCP/IP: using DHCP and IP Address: Provided automatically.
    7. When I open Safari it tells me that I'm not connected to the internet. Clicking the network diagnistics box gives me green lights for everything up to and including ISP but not for the internet.
Someone here mentioned that I might have to reconfigure my modem as a router. Is there anything to that?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Airport Extreme with Airport Express--unable to connect to internet

I am using an Airport Extreme and 4 Airport Expresses to extend the range of the Extreme which is connected to my modem. As long as I am in the immediate area of the extreme the internet connection works perfectly. When I move to another part of the house, ie upstairs the internet does
not work. Diagnostics tells me that the ISP has failed and the internet and server lights are amber.
I have a green light on all the airports and a strong signal strength on my computer. Sometimes
diagnostics tells me that my airport does not have an IP address. I have the Airport Extreme and
two Airport Expresses downstairs and two Airport Expresses upstairs. HELP!

+however I did not use the ethernet cable. Would you please explain why this+
+works as I am using a laptop to connect wirelessly+
I'm guessing here that you are talking about using an ethernet cable to connect the Express directly with the computer to help with configuration.
When you do this, AirPort Utility and the Express are on the same network, so they communicate together. It seems that a lot of users have trouble trying to configure the Express using wireless...probably because it is sometimes necessary to "switch" networks to find the Express. I think the ethernet method is much easier and there's just less to go wrong. But...other users swear by the wireless configuration method, so I guess the bottom line is whatever works best is best.

  • AirPort Express doesn't connect to router via WLAN anymore

    Hello
A few days ago I've bought an *AirPort Express (802.11n)*
When I wanted to test it for the first time, I set it up to *connect to an Existing Wireless Network* and it worked, I could for example stream music from iTunes or print something.
The main reason I bought the APExpress was to extend the range of my wireless signal area, and since my router's got WDS ability I set the *AirPort as a part of the WDS Network* and logically I connected it via Ethernet to the router, and again everything worked.
    Now my problem is:
yesterday I wanted to use the APExpress to stream some music to the kitchen,
so I chose the profile in which it was set to connect to an Existing Wireless Network, like I already described above.
But now it doesn't work; the APExpress doesn't connect to the router via WLAN, though there's the green light which's supposed to mean that everything's fine but it doesn't show up in the AirPort Setup Assistant.
As soon as I connect it via Ethernet to router it shows up and you can start streaming music or whatever, but without Ethernet it doesn't connect to the router anymore.
And that's weird, cause for the first time I used the device it worked, but now it doesn't!
Now I would be very thankful if somebody could help me to solve this problem.
    Cheers
    Yasser

  • 802.11n Airport Express won't connect to Internet

    Hi,
I have recently purchased a new 802.11n Airport Express which works fine with the Airport Utility, but will not connect to the internet through the Ethernet.
It is plugged directly from the cable model into the 802.11n via Ethernet.
I know that it is not the modem/internet service provider because when I pop my old 802.11b/g (model A1084) everything works fine, and I connect no problem.
The settings appear the same, but with the old model I get internet, with the 802.11n I get the flashing amber light. If I set it up manually, and input the same IP, Subnet Mask, and Router number that is working for the 802.11b/g model, I get the solid green light, but no internet.
Originally, I assumed I'd just picked up a lemon, so I exchanged it and I am getting the exact same results so I must be doing something wrong.
    Any ideas?
I wanted to extend my network, but use the 802.11n as the internet input so I could take advantage of the faster speeds.

    Welcome to the discussions!
You mentioned that you had a cable modem. Although the ISP will claim otherwise, in many cases it will take 20-30 minutes for a modem to completely reset. The reset is needed whenever you change the device that is directly connected to the modem.
Power down the modem and pull the battery if it has one. Power down the rest of the system as well.
Power up the modem first and let it run for 5-10 minutes, then the Express for a few minutes, then your computers.
Once you get things going, we can look into the next puzzle of extending the network. Please post back when you have the "green" light and internet.

  • Airport Express won't connect to internet

I configured the AX from factory settings about 3 times. I tried configuring with "using DHCP." I've tried to manually enter the IP address info to both the AX admin utility and through my macbook preferences. I've followed all the trouble shooting tips. I've restarted everything I can restart. I've even changed ethernet cables.
Ultimately, my mac says I'm connected to the internet on AX (network prefs> TCP/IP) but the AX blinks amber and the cable modem is all green lights, but won't register as "online"
Why can't I connect to the internet? How do I fix that problem?

    Ok, let's double-check your AX's settings...
AirPort Express Base Station Setup (AX) w/High-Speed Cable Modem
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling (optional)
    - Power-off the Cable modem, AX, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
Perform a "hard" reset of the AX (optional)
    - (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
    Setup the AX
With the network components powered down, set up the AX, using the AirPort Admin Utility, either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Create a closed network (unchecked)
    - Wireless Security: Not enabled
    - Channel: Automatic
    - Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
    Internet tab
    - Connect Using: Ethernet
    - Configure: Using DHCP
    - WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (checked)
    - Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)

  • Airport express doesn't connect to motorola 2210. how to set up?

just get a flashing amber light on AX. when i connect modem directly to via ethernet computer can connect to internet.

I'm familiar with that device.  You will need to re-configure the modem to work in "Bridge Mode" or "PPP is on the computer or router".
Right now, it is set for "PPP" is on the modem, correct?
Open the web page for the modem and look for the PPP Location tab on the left.
Then, the AirPort Express must be configured to "Connect Using = PPPoE" and you enter your user name and password into the setup of the AirPort Express.
Power off both the modem and Express. Start the modem first and let it run a moment or two. Then start the Express.

  • Airport Express won't connect to internet via WAN ethernet

I have new model Airport Express (AE)
I am attempting to use the AE as a wifi router in my office.  I'm sure the office has some sort of secure internet, although when I hardwire my computer to the internet via ethernet my computer connects immediately to internet with no passwords or logins necessary.
I have set up my AE to create a new wireless network.  It is ready to go, but it does not recognize that it is connected to internet.  Ethernet cord is plugged into WAN input, and other end is plugged into wall for office supplied internet.
AE will not recognize that it is connected to internet.
I assume this is due to something with the office supplied internet being secured or "special."  Is there a work around here, or suggested next steps?
    Thanks.

If you get all three together, "Ethernet unplugged" would pretty much explain the other two errors. Troubleshoot that first.
Is the same ethernet cable you are using with the AE the same one that worked with your computer? Is it oriented in the same direction (same end to the wall) as when it was used with the computer? Your office might use a non-standard cabling system or be taking some other measures to deter the use of foreign equipment.
Have you asked your office's technical support folks for any special instructions?

  • Airport express makes no connection with internet

My airport express is on green, but the router/moden above it makes no connection to internet.
When I put the LAN directly in my computer it works fine.
    Routeraddress is 192.168.1.1.
I used static IP 192.168.1.200 and used the bridgemodus.
The internetrouter is a Davolink DV-2020.
Can please tell somebody me what I do wrong?!

  • Airport Express can't connect to internet

I recently purchased and Airport Express to create a wireless network with my cable modem. It took several airport restarts and power-downs exceeding 5 minutes to get it working. Now that the wireless connection works, I find it odd the network status in System Preferences indicates "green' for PCI Ethernet slot 2 and "yellow" for Airport. Specifically, it states "Airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect tot he internet" and that "PCI Ethernet Slot 2 is active and connected to the internet" If the wireless connection is in fact working, why can't system preferences recognize that?

What happens if you restart your Mac, then connect to your wireless network?

  • Replacement airport express won't connect to internet

Why can't I get my replacement airport express to connect to the internet

Wonder if you can direct me to any past or present solutions. I have the new Airport Extreme tower. Actually I'm trying number 2 thinking the problem was number 1. Apparently not. I've done multiple factory resets. Even waited couple hours to try reinstall because my provider said there is a Mac or max filter and wait. Anyhow once I'm able to get the AE online(green) not internet connection. I brought my Airport express in and hooked it up and in blink of an eye it's online with internet. Even phone companys stock modem connects. Interesting that the A express summary lists the DNS addresses and domain. Took this information and tried putting it in when retried the AE. No luck. The First  AE worked for over week. Phone tech checked switch at office and did line ping.
My DSL provider uses DCHP.Sorry I forgot the name of the box outside at my phone line where DSL connects. Inside I make connection phone jack and ethernet cable.
As I said I've done every form of power down reset. Any suggestion be appreciated. Next stop be Apple.
