AirPort Express dynamic DNS configuration

Hi,
I just bought a 2nd gen AirPort Express and completed the setup successfully. Then I saw the option to configure a Dynamic Global Hostname, I assumed its for a DNS. But I can only complete username, password and host name. is that enough? I mean, does the AirPort automatically locates the provider? I want to use noip.com.
Thank you very much.

thank you.
The only thing, the instructions in that post are for Mac, very close to the real deal for iOS 8, here are the corrections, I forgot to say that these configurations are unavailable in the AirPort Utility for PC.
1. Open the AirPort Utility on iOS 8
2. Click on your AirPort Device, then click "Edit".
3. Select the "Internet Connection" tab.
4. Now in the "Domain Name" section type "no-ip.ddns"
5. Now click "Done" and go back and go to "Advanced" and then "Dynamic Global Hostname"
6. Enable the sitch for "Global Hostname"
7. In the "Hostname" section fill it with "yourhostname.ddns.net" or it could be "yourhostname.no-ip.com" or whatever other hostname No-IP.com may have assigned you.
8. In the "User" & "Password" sections fill it with the username and password that you chose when creating your "No-IP.com" account.
9. Now click "Done" until you see "Update" which will save the settings.
Now, the only thing remaining is how to setup over WAN as I checked "Allow setup over WAN" in the AirPort Utility.....

  • Can't read airport express base station configuration wirelessly

    The setup:
2TB time capsule that takes the ethernet feed from the cable modem for internet access.
Airport express 802.11g plugged into speakers for Airtunes. No ethernet connection, just a wireless network.
    The problem:
I can only read the airport express base station configuration when the mac is plugged into the time capsule by ethernet cable. This does not happen with the other mac I have on the network. It can connect to both the time capsule and the airport express without any problems. So unless I'm plugged in, iTunes and airtunes doesn't connect to the base station, and neither can Airfoil 3.5 or Airport Utility. Airport Utility does see the airport express. It just doesn't read the configuration wirelessly.
I think this had something to do with elgato eyetv not liking airfoil, but I can't say for sure.
    Any thoughts?

When I switch it on all three lights flash, but then after a while the middle one stays on and nothing happens.
You posted in the AirPort Express area, but it sounds like you have an AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)--correct?
If so, let's start by performing a complete power recycling of your network components to make sure that the BT Voyager router "recognizes" the AEBS.
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    - Power-off the BT Voyager modem, AEBS, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the BT Voyager modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
    - Power-off the BT Voyager modem, AEBS, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the BT Voyager modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)

  • Comcast dynamic DNS configuration

I'm really inexperienced with this stuff, and I just got a letter from Comcast saying that I need to configure "my PC for dynamic DNS communication".
I have Airport extreme directly connected to my Comcast modem, and one iMac is served wirelessly and the other wired to the Airport Express station.
What do I need to do? Anybody? Everything seems to work here now and I hate to mess it up, but they keep sending me dire warnings!....

  • Airport Express: How to configure?

Hi, I need help with configuring Airport Express - I have successfully connected to the airport express and the light is green, however I still can't connect to the internet.
I checked the internet configuration, and I'm connected using ethernet and manual. I have optimum online as my provider. I tried to use the DHCP setting, but it's asking for a DNS server and router name, which I have no idea what to enter. Help...

Have you used the Airport Utility to configure your connection? You should be able to use the "Assist" option to set up your network. I would double check which network you use in your Airport menu. I find that I need to reset my cable modem when I modify my settings. Simply pulling the power cord from the modem for a minute should do the trick.

  • Airport Express won't configure to by Airport extreme

I keep getting a error stating "the airport express is configured but we can't find it..."  Anyone else solved this problem?

I did that and still got the error message. I got a link from someone on another board:
    http://www.upgradeyourmac.co.uk/mainsite/MacOSQuestions/Q071.html
...that tells you to do the whole setup manually, and I managed to get it working. It seems there is an issue with the software (from a recent software update, I believe) that doesn't allow the 'assist me' set up to work. I just don't get this...Apple has, on numerous occasions, released Airport updates that have broken the darn thing. Do they not test these updates beforehand? For the record, I am not the only person to have experienced this issue.
Is there a quick and easy way to notify Apple about this?

  • Hard to accept that (2) airport extremes, (3) airport expresses, cannot be configured to play pandora from iPad to one access point to play to all devices simultaneously.

I have a verizon router hooked to my AP Extreme For my home wireless network. I have mutiple airport express along with an Apple TV wirelessly connected to the network also. With all the ways that these can be configured, how is there not a way to have all of the AP Express receive the same Pandora stream at the same time? Can they all be named the same thing so that my iPad thinks it's sending the signal to only one unit? Again, I find it insanely difficult to wrap my head around the fact that this is so difficult to make happen with the Apple technology available today. Any suggestions???

Yes iTunes can according to this Apple information page: AirPort Express frequently asked questions (FAQ) - Apple Support
Can iTunes send a single AirPlay stream to multiple AirPort Express stations?
Yes. You can send an AirPlay stream to multiple remote AirPort Express units . The maximum number of remote AirPort Express units is up to six. The actual number that will work in your environment  will depend on conditions such as building composition and radio interference, distance to the remote AirPort Express units, and available network capacity relative to your other usage.
I don't know enough about Pandora to help you in-depth with that - maybe someone else here can - but you should first test if it works with iTunes.
That way you'll know if your network setup is working like you intend to. From there we can troubleshoot Pandora,

  • Airport express slow after configuration, why?

OS X 10.4.2, dual 867 g4 (Sonnet pci 802.11 g) and imac flat screen 10.4 (airport card) and airport express: When I logged in through the airport express on first usage (with generic apple xxxxxx network name), the road runner speed test was showing a connection speed of about 1.5Mbps on both computers. After I configure the express (it came with the 6.2 basestation firmware installed) for our network names, security, etc. the road runner speed test shows the connection speed slowing to 90-100kbps.
Any thoughts about why this is happening, or how to rectify situation? Obviously the hardware is ok, but the software after configuration reduces through put drastically.
    Thanks,
    Teg

Thanks for your reply. I installed the 6.1.1 firmware, but the same problem continues. When using the road runner connection speed test, the connection will frequently start out at a decent rate (1.5 Mbps) but fall off rapidly, in 2-3 seconds, down to a poor connection rate of 90-100 kbps. When I connect to the cable modem by ethernet cable the connect speed is in the 3-4 Mbps range consistently. My wireless connection appears consistently to be all four black bars in the menu bar.
I tried down grading the airport version from 4.2, but the system would not allow that.
Is this problem in the Airport Express, the airport 4.2 software, the os 10.4.2, or what? Any guesses?

  • Airport Express and DNS Issues

Recently I bought a Airport Express and i have been using it connected to a ADSL modem (modem is using PPPoE). Before that i used to have a D-Link wireless router connected to the modem, with no issues. Airport Express is working as bridge mode.
I was having trouble with my Macbook connecting some websites (with Windows computer it was ok), and I could solve it by adding DNS preferred addresses on System Preferences. Although it completely solved my home network problems, every time I go to a place where the preferred DNS is different, I have to exclude the addresses from System Preferences to internet to work fine.
Can anyone help me with that? Is it a Airport Express bug?
    Thanks for any help.

That suggests to me that you're expecting the "ADSL modem" to perform router functions. Is it capable of that? What is the brand and model of that modem? If the modem can't perform router functions, your Express shouldn't be in bridge mode.

If something on your LAN is performing proper DHCP functions, that "something" should provide your MacBook with usable DNS addresses without your having to declare them manually.

  • Airport Express Won't Configure

I have a AirPort base station, the old space ship looking kind. I also have a AirPort Express. I want to extend the Base Station's signal. I have hard reset the the Express numerous times. Each time I go into Manual setup and go through the setup process I pick my main Airport's network and enter the password for it. Then I sit and wait for the Express to restart. It errors every time.
    Thoughts?

Figured it out. My main base station was not setup to be it's own network but to participate in a WDA network. It's working now.

  • Airport Express fails to configure with Utility 5.5.1

Hi there, I hope somebody can help me with this problem
I have an Airport Express which was previously working fine.
It was used to extend the range of another network, with a non-Apple router/modem.
It stopped working one day and I didn't pay much attention to it as I only used it for streaming iTunes anyway.
Now I have moved and am once again trying to get it to connect to an existing wireless network and failing.
I open Utility and it scans and detects my Airport Express which I have done a factory reset on.
I click on the AE and go through the setup steps and get as far as Join A Wireless Network.
Regardless of whether I then choose "Join My Wireless Network" or "Extend the range of my AEx or AE network" things fall down at the next step.
I find the network I wish to join, put in the WPA password and click restart.
At this point Utility tells me that my settings have been successfully updated and I should either close the window or wait for AE to restart.
    Alas it never restarts.
The light continues to flash orange and Utility eventually acknowledges failure.
Any ideas as to how I overcome this?
Incidentally in Utility I can setup a new network on the AE without problem, alas I don't have access to the ethernet cable to do this as I am piggy-backing on to a network in a shared housing scheme.

When I logged in to the router it told me that security was WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK).
Is there perhaps a setting for WPA/WPA2 Personal (TKIP)? That would correspond to Apple's WPA/WPA2 Personal.
+The main Belkin routher is 2 houses away.+
+Is there any way to use the Airport Express to extend the range of the network or improve the signal strength inside my house?+
Unfortunately, Apple's "extend a wireless network" feature is not compatible with other manufacturer's devices. All you can do is try to position the AirPort Express as close as possible the Belkin router and avoid as many obstructions as possible.

  • Second Airport Express, want to configure VPN using Radius

Hi! I appreciate any help I can get.
I want to add a second network to our existing network. On this second network I want to use ML Server to set up VPN verified with RADIUS. I don't want the server to affect the first network, or give the rest of the family access to the server. The first network is set up using a time capsule.
I have an Airport Extreme - which is set up in bridge mode right now. And mountain lion server doesn't even see it.  Eventually I plan to send my mini to a colocation facility- but can't afford it right now.  All I have right now is residential internet service, no static IP.
I am willing to install other applications or a config file if that is possible.
    thanks!

  • Configure Windows Domain Logon on Airport Express

The question is... How can I configure Windows Domain Logon data on an Airport Express so it connects automatically without asking each of my other devices for login credentials?
I use my Airport Express at work connecting it through ethernet, and the network uses Windows Domain credemtials to login, that is user, password and domain server. I have all data needed, this is, static IP, Gateway, DNS, user, password, etc., but I haven't found how to do this inside de Airport Express so I configure just one device instead of 3 or more.
I have tryed configuring the Airport Express as PPPoE, but that's not the solution for this problem.
Thanks in advance for the answer.

Your wireless Netgear router and AirPort Express Base Station (AX) are pretty much useless if you don't have wireless capability for your Dell desktop. The AX uses AirTunes to receive, wirelessly, iTunes from your desktop.
Just add a wireless card to your Dell and you should be in good shape. In fact, once you go wireless, you can return the Netgear router as your AX will provide Internet connectivity, stream iTunes, and share a USB printer.

  • Need to configure - 2 Airport Expresses, Macbook Pro + iMac G4

Hi All. My problem is I can't get my G4 iMac to work with an Airport Express (connected to the ethernet port as the iMac doesn't have wireless.)
Below (A) is a configuration that works and (B) doesn't.
    Configuration (A)
Airport Express 1(Main) (living room) - Connected to DSL modem + sterio
Airport Express 2 (bedroom) - Connected to USB printer
I can happily play music via airtunes and print wirelessly to the printer from my MacBook Pro.
    Configuration (B)
Same as (A) but an iMac is connected to Airport Express 2 in the bedroom by Ethernet Cable.
The problem seems to be that the way Airport Express 2 is configured means the ethernet port isn't active. When I configure it to activate the port then I lose communication with it (from wireless Mac). The light goes from green to flashing amber. I can no longer see the printer from MacBook Pro.
So the question really is, in order to have Configuration (B) fully working, what setting do I need to set on both airport expresses?
    Many thanks
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iMac G4 - 10.4.8

WilH, Welcome to the discussion area!
The Ethernet port on the AirPort Express (AX) is ONLY active when the AX is using WDS to join a wireless network.
You will need to use the directions in KB 107454, AirPort Extreme and Express: Using WDS to create a network from multiple base stations to configure all of your AX. Configure AX1 as a "main base station". Configure AX2 and AX3 as remote base stations.

  • Multiple Airport Express Extension Configuration

I recently installed 1 Airport Extreme and 4 Airport Express' which I configured to "Join the Network" for the Airport Extreme acting as Base Station. I have to configure these in an "L" shaped fashion with the base station acting as the tip of the shorter end of the L (given where the modem feed is located). I am currently getting light signal strength on the furthest reaching Express (1 of 3 bars). I configured each of the Express' to "join the network" of the base station Airport Extreme. Is this is the correcct configuration to maximize signal strength, or should I have selected the closet Airport Express as the device to extend off of to obtain maximum signal? Any insight is greatly appreciated. These are all the latest Airport devices (purchsed two days ago).

Thanks for the clarification. I would try the "join" configuration for the "Far AX" to see if everything will function as you require.
If devices do need more wireless signal strength in the area of the "Far AX", (and due to obstructions between the "Far AX" and the AirPort Extreme), you would need to connect the "Far AX" to the AirPort Extreme using an ethernet connection and configure it to "create a wireless network" using the same network name, security and password as the rest of the wireless network.
If you can't run an ethernet cable, you might want to take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to allow the AC wiring in your home to transmit the ethernet signal. Post back if you need more information on this type of configuration.
There is always some bandwidth loss when devices use wireless to "extend" due to the overhead of receiving a wireless signal and then having to re-broadcast it. With an AX, on average, it's about 10-15% per device. So, with 3 AX devices set up to "extend", the bandwidth on the network is going to drop 30-40% or so. That's really not as bad as it might sound.
One of the advantages of connecting an AX to a main base station using an ethernet connection is that maximum bandwidth on the network is maintained. That's why commercial networks are designed with each wireless access point connecting back to a main router using an ethernet connection. "Extending" devices can then be located exactly were they are needed and you don't have to worry about them having a strong signal to connect back to a hub using wireless only.
