Airport express factory reset fail

Hi,  my airport express (7.6.2) is showing on airport utility (version 6) as device not found.    I have tried to do a factory reset - held the reset button whilst putting in the power cord, I get the amber light, then the blinking amber light but when I release it goes straight back to green.  Have tried holding for shorter and longer periods - no difference.
Have tried connecting the express to my macbook air via usb cable and tried airport utility 5.6 - still not able to recognise it.
The device is showing a green light as if all is fine.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
Rob

Have tried connecting the express to my macbook air via usb cable and tried airport utility 5.6 - still not able to recognise it.
Try connecting the MacBook directly to the AirPort Express using an Ethernet cable, and then, try accessing it from the AirPort Utility. Connecting to it by USB will NOT work.

  • Airport Express needs resetting to give AppleTV an IP address (via Ethernet)

So my Apple TV (3rd gen) is connected via ethernet to my Airport Express, but the Airport Express needs resetting all the time for my Apple Tv to get an IP.
How do I get them to be friends forever without resetting the AE? When the AppleTv gets restarted, it still wont get an IP so I suspect the AE is the bad boy here.
    Any idea's?

Has this always happened with the Express or just starting happening recently? If just recently, where there any changes to either the Express' firmware or to the cable modem? What is the make & model of the modem?

  • Airport Express wont reset

Was using airport express to play itunes remotely. It stopped working a week ago and I have tried both regular and hard reset.
But configuring again the admin utility asks me for the password for the base station- which I don't have and then comes up with the following error. Bad param Error (-4).
    Help

Have you tried factory reset? Unplug the apx, push the pin in the reset button hole, keep it pushed while plugging the apx back in the socket and wait for a few blinks. Release.

  • Time Capsule - Airport Express - Airport Express Remote Speakers Fail

Like my title mentions, my configuration is:
    -Time Capsule on 3rd Floor
    -Airport Express on 2nd Floor
    -Airport Express on 1st Floor
The distance is not that much between each component and the Airport Express are all green and show up as working on my Airport Utility.
In order to extend my network, I have created a WDS network, Internet works like a charm anywhere in the house.
In the first floor, I hook up my speakers to the Airport Express. In iTunes, the AE shows up and when I select to output sound to the speakers, it briefly plays the music for a second and then it plays no more.
If I take the AE for the 1st floor and plug it in the kitchen wall on the 3rd floor, the music sounds through the speakers without a problem.
What can be causing the AE to fail to play to the music on the 1st floor? Everything is green and working, I am baffled.
    Thanks!

    Mitchell, welcome to the discussions!
You may find it easier to use Manual Setup in AirPort Utility for the device.
The key setting would be under the Internet icon. Look at the bottom of the pane for Connection Sharing, this would be set to Off (Bridge Mode). Under the Wireless tab, you would set the Wireless Mode for "extend a wireless network" and make sure there is a check mark next to "allow wireless clients"
On the setup of the Time Capsule in AirPort Utility - Manual Setup - Wireless tab, make sure there is a check mark next to "allow the network to be extended"
If you have a good wireless signal in the area where the Express will be located, you also might want to try extending your network without using the ethernet cable. Normally, a good starting point for positioning the Express is at a point that is approximately half the distance from the Time Capsule and the area that you want to cover with the Express.
You may also need to reset your cable modem by powering it down for 10-15 minutes and then restarting.
Please post back on your progress.

  • Have a blinking yellow light on airport express.  Reset... Still Blinking.  What do I do?

Airport Express has blinking yellow light.  Reset.  Still blinking yellow.  All other apple products, Apple TV, Mac's connecting fine to Airport Extreme.
Had to reset AE a few months ago and have not used this airport extreme since that. Suspect is a simple fix but not doing something right.  Anyone help?

A persistent, flashing amber light indicates that any of the several potential conditions may require your attention:
The base station has not yet been configured because it is new, or the reset switch has been set.
You have selected a security configuration that is not recommended.
One of several other conditions, such as a disconnected Ethernet cable or invalid IP address has been detected.
    (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305101)
If you run the AirPort Utility, it will show an amber circle on the summary page next to the area(s) causing the problem. Click on this amber circle and it should provide an explanation.

  • Airport express needs resetting everytime I want to use it

I have an iMac G5 running OS X 10.3.9 set up on a wireless network to a D-Link router for the internet and an airport express to enable wireless printing to an hp printer. All worked fine until I changed the security settings on the D-Link router, requiring me to reset the Airport Express. After the reset, the printer worked fine. However, when I next went to use the printer, it wouldn't work. I jumped through hoops uninstalling software and drivers and reinstalling, plugging the printer into the computer directly, posting queries to these forums etc etc. As a last resort I did a hard reset of the airport express and set it up to join the existing network and then finally I could add the printer and it worked like a dream again. So, I shut down my iMac. Next morning, I start up my iMac, pay a few bills, turn the printer on to print out receipts....nothing. The airport express light is green. But I can't see the airport express under the airport admin utility. Has doing one reset the one time meant that now each time I need to print something I will first have to perform a hard reset of the airport express? Or is it coming to the end of its life (barely 18 months). Anyone with any suggestions?

  • Printer configuration in airport express after reset

Hi, I've recently resetted my airport express base (because it didn't work anymore), then I've reshape the settings on my mac and on another pc that is linked to the network... The internet connection started to work immediately, but I can't use my printer (that is linked to the airport base) with my mac, while I can use it with the pc . I saw in airport utility that to use the printer with bonjour, first I've to give a global host name to the airport base: what's that? Moreover, the first time I installed the network when I bought airport express I didn't have to do all this things... someone can help me?

Thanks to everyone for the help...

  • X60 factory reset failed

I have an X60 with XP that I tried to perform a factory reset on. the process started and then failed. Now when I boot it fails with a no operating system message. When I try to install xp from a windows cd is does not find a hard drive to install to.
How can I get this back to factory spec? I don't have any restore media. Is there a way to create some from the system restore console? Please help.

If you are using aftermarket XP OS installation disk, you would need to go to bios and switch the hdd mode from ACHI to Compatibility. Regarding the Factory partition, you would need the recovery media disks to recover that partition, if you got warranty, there is a small chance that Lenovo will send you the disks for free, if you explain the situation to them. If you are out of warranty, then you would have to fork out 50 USD for the disks.

  • Airport Express Needs Resetting Too Often?

I use Airport Express with a PC laptop. I had a Linksys router that worked well, but switched to Airport Express to play iTunes through the stereo. Linksys worked wonderfully for 2+ years without any trouble. I've had Airport Express since May and every 2 weeks or so, the connection grows weak, pages take a long time to load, and timeouts increase. I reset and all goes back to normal. Why does this happen so often? Any way to prevent it? Thanks.

Has this always happened with the Express or just starting happening recently? If just recently, where there any changes to either the Express' firmware or to the cable modem? What is the make & model of the modem?

  • Macbook Air Factory Reset failed - now it's No Entry

    I tried the instructions here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17324315?searchText=How%20do%20I%20factory %20reset%20my%20Macbook%20Air?#17324315
with one change, in that I opted for an encrypted partition. That is to say, I booted with cmd-R, erased the old Lion partition, created a new one (journaled, encrypted), then opted to install Lion. The download of additional components took about 2.5 hrs before reboot. I wasn't paying full attention, but I had the impression that the reboot took place before the progress meter reached the end. You should also know that my Internet connection is USDPA. Copper doesn't stretch far enough in these parts.
The reason for doing this was a combination of two factors. First, my MacBook Air was full, yet finding anything that was deletable had become almost impossible (can you tell I'm really a Windows user yet?) The second was that I'd recently installed some Randomly Downloaded Software so I could watch a movie over DLNA. It was hogging the CPU even when not in use and I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it. Other than the reasons stated, the machine was in full working order. At that point, Factory Reset just seemed the sensible option.
Arrgh, why did I do that? Why did I try the factory reset? After 20 years working in IT, I knew it was going to give me grief, but I did it anyway.
After the reboot, a No Entry sign and the 'turning daisy wheel' appeared. I figured the machine must be continuing with the install, so I left it overnight. But in the morning, it was still the same. I powered it down and back up - same. So, I came here.
    What did I do wrong?
And how do I fix it? (As I type, I am trying again, which involves another mega-download over a mobile data connection, though since I'm repeating exactly the same steps, it's hard to see how it can turn out any different...)

If you haven’t already done so, back up the computer if you have anything you want to save. If in doubt, back up anyway. You are about to lose everything - your configuration o email, any saved passwords or data. Everything. Backing up with TimeMachine (or using a cloning program such as SuperDuper! will let you restore your data and configurations after the OS reset.)
    1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X Utilities window appears.
    2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
    3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
    5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
    6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
    7. Select Reinstall Yosemite and click on the Install button.
    8. When complete restart the computer.

  • Help Please -Factory Reset Failed on HP Envy

Recently my laptop touch screen suffered from extreme "ghost touches" that made the laptop basically unusable until I disabled the human interface and only used the mouse. I went to a popular computer site that walked me through numerous detailed scans and determined it was not a malware/virus issue.  So, I tried a system restore and that didn't help. Next step was a factory image reset using the recovery disks that I made upon purchase. After 3 tries the reset continues to fail. It always looks promising and gets to the "Administrator welcome" screen but then goes back to "software installation" eventually ends up at the "Restoration Incomplete" screen. When I try to save the log detail to a DVD it says there's not enough free space even though it's a blank 4.7GB disk. I took a pic of the log (attached) if that helps. On a side note during the "Software installation' process the frame blinked randomly and what appeared to be drop down menus opened randomly for split seconds in the background... none of which appeared kosher to me  - but I'm no tech expert. I do have an extended warranty and may end up having to send it in but would prefer to fix here if possible. I love this laptop and am at a total loss here - thanks for any help/advice!

  • Airport Express signal fine but no internet connection

We have been using an Airport Express for wireless Internet access and recently are unable to connect to the Internet. We use a Comcast cable modem, through a Linksys router, to the Airport Express. We can connect by network cable to the router and access the Internet, but are unable to connect wirelessly. We are getting a signal from the Airport Express (the light is green), but no Internet connectivity. We have restarted and done a hard reset (holding the reset button while plugging the Airport Express in) of the Airport Express, but it did not seem to help. The hard reset did not result in resetting the settings, so perhaps there is another way to reset it or perhaps there is another problem.
    Has anyone had similar problems?

I tried power cycling the cable modem, downloading new firmware (why didn't Software Update tell me about this?), deleting the DNS servers, hard reset of AirPort Express, factory reset of AirPort Express, fiddling with AirPort Admin Utility, fiddling with AirPort Setup, all of the above in different order and different combinations, and it still would not work.
Power cycling the cable modem was one of the first things I did, and that resulted in getting Internet connection through the cable modem onto the ethernet cable; just no Internet through AirPort. Finally, after a factory reset of the AirPort Express did not help, I decided to power cycle the cable modem again, even though I had already just confirmed again that I was getting the Internet through the ethernet cable. Once the cable modem finished the power cycle, it finally worked! I was back on the Internet via AirPort!
I'm not exactly sure which solution fixed it for me, but I suspect that it didn't work at first because I did not power cycle the cable modem afterwards. In other words, if after changing AirPort settings you still are not connected to the Internet, try power cycling the cable modem. Do this every time for each change you make to the AirPort settings.
The other thing I learned is that unplugging the cable modem from the wall power outlet or turning off the power strip will NOT power cycle the cable modem properly. Instead, you must remove the power cord from the cable modem. I tried all three of these methods and for whatever reason, the only time it worked was by removing the power cord.

  • Airport express will not reset

I thought Airport Expess was acting wacky, so I poked the reset button with a pencil.  Now I can't get Airport Express to reset.  When I open Airport Utility 6.2, I get the message:
This version of AirPort Utility doesn’t support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support.
So, I download 5.6, but when I try to install, I get the error message:
"Airport Utility cannot be installed on this disk.  The version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported."
Just for fun, I try to trash Airport Utility 6.2, but I get the error message:
"Airport Utility.app can't be modified or deleted because because it's requried by Mac OS X."
What am I supposed to do?

I figured out the solution.  It's a known issue.  The answer is here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4657691?start=0&tstart=0
Unfortunately, the instructions in the link are poorly written.  Further, I don't quite remember what I did to compensate for the poorly written instructions.  It had something to do with the doodad putting something onto my desktop.  You run the doodad according to instructions, and it seems as if it does nothing, but it actually puts something onto your desktop.
Also, I followed both links in the link, but I have no idea which link placed the thing onto my desktop.  Trust me it will work, but I'm sorry I can't provide specific instructions!

  • Airport Express not seen in iTunes but is connected to wifi network

This is the second Airport Express that's failed on me... and in exactly the same way. It works great for about 8+ months; suddenly, it stops working but still has a green light and is pingable from any other device on the wireless network. Neither iTunes nor any of the admin utilities can see it. I've tried a soft, hard and factory reset. No success; however, after the factory reset, I'm able to see and configure it with the admin utility. I was even able to update the software on it (6.3). After configuration and subsequent restart, it successfully authenticates/connects to the wireless network and that's when my mac is no longer able to see/manage it.
I only use the Airport Express to stream music from iTunes to my stereo located about 10ft away. Confirmed that iTunes is set to look for remote speakers on startup. The last time this happened, I simply bought a new one that worked without issue... until now.
The issue may have started after a software update on my mac though I can't confirm this - I don't usually check iTunes connectivity to the Airport Express post update. Any ideas on what to I can try next?

  • Airport express no longer being recognized

I previously had my home network set up and working with no problems.
I have an airport base station and I have an airport express that I use to print wirelessly.
After one of the recent updates, my airport express was no longer recognized by the airport utility but if I do an airport scan, an apple network with a random name was showing up.
I tried to update the settings on that network to extend my existing network that is working fine in order to be able to print.
Now the apple network that was showing up in an airport scan isn't even showing up anymore and I can't seem to figure out what to do next.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem.
After OS Update 10.5.5, my Airport Express has been failing every other day. It usually takes me 5 or 6 tries to get it running again, but at that point I get really frustrated.
Reset (via little tiny button on bottom, hold until orange light flashes fast), then unplug the Airport. Unplug the modem - wait a few seconds - plug in the Airport, THEN the modem.
Of course then you have to go to Airport Utility and search for the Airport. Sometimes it never finds it and I cannot understand why. When it does find it, it will be labeled APPLE XXXXX <-- random numbers.. Then set up your wireless network.
I hope Apple fixes this little disconnecting bug, it's really frustrating.
